A friend recommended the restaurant to me last fall when I was in NYC- this spring I dined at IL Gattopardo , it was my pre theater dinner treat. The location on the street behind MOMA in an old Rockefeller home is picturesque. The garden level restaurant has options for dining, especially during warm weather : al fresco street level, an intimate bar area with tables for two, the main dining room and the rear hidden garden. There is also a large private dining room for events on the lower floor. Being solo I sat at the bar near the window. I enjoyed the music and ordered a glass of wine, bread and olive was provided and the arancini sent were a compliment of the chef. The heirloom tomato salad I ordered was a special of the day and from the menu I choose a broiled fish with accompanying sides. I no longer remember the type of fish - only that the entire meal and setting was charming . A cordial is my general rule after a delicious dinner out and the one I choose was wonderful ! The welcoming professionalism of the bartender & host must be mentioned . This restaurant is a must for me when I return to Manhattan !
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service but the food was really unremarkable.
Our table of 6 racked up a 4-figure bill, but sadly I don't think the food was good at all. I did like the desserts... but tbh the bread service was the best part of my whole meal. Espresso martini was sickeningly sweet. Wine glass on table was spotted and smudged. Not a single person in our party cleaned their plate. I will not be returning.

It's hard to claim one is the best Italian restaurant in Manhattan. But this one is in the top 5. Housed in a townhouse behind the MOMA that used to be owned by the Rockefellers, the experience of entering the restaurant is romantic. You need to walk down the outside stairs to a basement entrance. Inside is a bustling dining room filled with business men and romantic couples. The decor is clean, bright and elegant, but nondescript. The service is impeccable and the food is heavenly. Every pasta I've had here is great. As well as the risotto. If you're lucky enough to come on a night when they are serving gnocchi, get it. These potato dumplings are like pillows of air. They are so light and delicious. If you get it in the sausage and truffle sauce you will be in ecstasy. The grilled Double-R Ranch Angus grass-fed ribeye for two, with roasted fingerling potatoes, is a dish seasoned to perfection. Tiramisu is a great dessert choice, but try the Bavarese alla vaniglia with chestnut heart, glazed with white chocolate. It's a ball of vanilla creamy custard with a chocolate topping and a heart of some flavor. If they offer the orange or fig Bavarese jump on it. The prices are not for the faint of heart and best to come with an expense account.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem of an Italian restaurant in midtown.
Very authentic - the staff are all Italian and it shows! Came for their Sunday brunch, all the options looked excellent but we settled on the spaghetti carbonara and the omelette which was recommended by our waiter. All the food was excellent but I have slight regrets about not choosing 2 spaghetti dishes, cause the texture of the pasta was amazing. Will have to come back again soon although my wallet may need some time to recover. The prices are a little high but you are getting a proper white tablecloth restaurant with professional staff.

Santiago is probably the hands-down, best waiter I have ever had in my entire life. I come from many backgrounds of service industry and I can for sure tell you that he is the best this restaurant is phenomenal and I would rather go nowhere else.!!

One of my favorite restaurants in Midtown East, and a consistent favorite throughout the years. The place is simply classic, the ambience and service always nice, the food is always delicious, and a pretty sure bet for a good evening on a date night or an evening to entertain. While their specialties are are definitely more towards gluten full, they have great gluten-free options as well, and very tasty ones at that. I've thoroughly enjoyed both the risotto and pastas, and their meat mains are divine. A little bit on the pricey side, but a fantastic place for an occasional treat. I got to try out their recent outdoor dining set up in my most recent visit (August) and thought the tent was quite nice, though I admit before the pandemic, sitting outdoors was much more romantic without the tent, and made you feel like you were temporarily transported to Europe. But it was nice and I would definitely do it again. Look forward to our next visit to my favorite big cat restaurant.

very beautiful restaurant filled with lots of old rich people, (that's how you know it's good) service was wonderful, we had to send an appetizer back due to how large and heavy it was (zucchini parm) and they comped it for us. it is a bit stuffy and nothing special in regards to the food so that's why it doesn't get 5 stars.

What a brilliant NYC find! The spaghetti with gray mullet bottarga was the best pasta dish I have ever had the great pleasure to enjoy! Run, don't walk to Il Gattopardo (but maybe make a reservation first).

Lovely meal and service-can only give 4 stars because of the truly terrible fruit fly infestation in the outdoor dining shed-the waiter had to provide covers for the wine glasses in advance since he knew there was a problem. $96 dollars for a bottle of wine and 10-12 dead fruit flies in the bottom of the glasses-management please fix this problem!

After three or four fun dates if you're sure they're the one, this is the place to seal the deal. Ideal high end site on one of nyc's elite blocks. You're arriving at the Rockefeller townhouses, as if you're invited. Private side entrance down the short steps to a gate that happens to be open for you. Perfect greeting and service start to finish. Friendly and personable, as if you belong. The food is good enough, strong creative cocktails, great wine list. Some night when you return, take a seat (or two, if the deal persists) at the small almost hidden bar at the side. Five stars for the setting!

Last minute reservation and food, service and ambiance was all stellar! We walked into this charming restaurant and were warmly greeted and seated at a lovely table. The ambiance was both inviting and welcoming. Our waiter, Sean was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious. It was a lovely experience!
Be the first to ReplyWent to Il Gattopardo for a business lunch.
It was extremely crowded and the restaurant seemed to be understaffed. The food was very good and I would certainly try it again for dinner or on a weekend when it might not be as crowded. Across the street from MoMA and otherwise well located in Midtown.
Be the first to ReplyWe went here with high expectations since we lived in Italy
We went here with high expectations since we lived in Italy for a long time and are passionate about authentic Italian food. Well, we were very disappointed for various reasons. The food was mediocre at best. They claim to be a southern Italian restaurant and the food was authentic but definitely missing flavor. The cucumber-tomato salad was ok but nothing special, the ravioli with porcini mushrooms was very bland and definitely missing a different touch to the sauce, the fish was ok but again very basic. The cantucci we were offered with check was also just ok in fact we commented that the ones I made home for Christmas a few days before were better. (I'm an accountant not a chef). The wine list was ok. Service was too forced. I could tell from the accents that some of the staff was really Italian but some weren't and it was obvious that they were told to use basic Italian words as 'grazie' or 'prego'. On top of it, the day after I noticed that my card was charged twice and when I called them they were just rude. The first time I called, after a wait, I was told to call back in an hour since the manager was not there. Not a 'can I take your number and call you back', not an apology, nothing. When I did call back , (not sure if this was the manager or some other person that felt confident enough to respond to my inquiry), I was told that it should be a problem regarding my bank and that their records show I was only charged once in a very rude tone. Guess what? I know exactly how cards or pre authorizations work and as of today the second charge is still standing. Would I go back? No, with all the choices in the area, absolutely not!

Impecable and outstanding service, from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. We came during probably their busiest time of the year - a week before Christmas - and an hour before our reservations (had an errand nearby and got done earlier) so I was apprehensive that they might turn us away. No, they did not. No only that, they didn't even mention it! We were immediately seated on the main level. Whew lolBreads and gourmet olive oil were served right away, and were delicious. We were brought a complimentary appetizer (rice balls?), and ordered a zucchini parm appetizer to split. At this point were already full (lol). For the mains, we ordered veal and branzino (special), which was skillfully deboned tableside. I want to say it that with the sides our meat and fish came with, the dishes were simple but yet perfect just like they were. We also asked for wine reco, and received something that complimented our meals beautifully. Overall, we had a delicious and filling meal, and exceptional service. Thank you.

Be the first to ReplyGreat food and service.
Sat in the huge room downstairs, absolutely freezing cold. Just a terrible experience... an old favorite, but if this is the seating option. Absolutely a no go. Really disappointed !
Be the first to ReplyUnforgivably poor quality for the price point.

Be the first to ReplyI have never written a review on a restaurant nor have I
I have never written a review on a restaurant nor have I walked out of a restaurant but I guess there is a first for everything. I had a reservation for 9 o'clock and ended up showing up at 8:20. We waiting near the bar for our table to be ready and while we were waiting the bartender went around to the other tables around us handing out menus and giving them drinks "on the house" but never came over to us. I finally got up and went over to the bar to order my fiancée and I a drink and while we were waiting for over 20 minutes everyone that came to the bar and tables near us after us all received their drinks while we were still waiting. It took death stares from my fiancée and I towards the bartender for him to finally make our drinks and instead of bringing our drinks to the table (like he was doing for everyone else) he points at me and makes me go up to grab our drinks (which I don't mind doing but since he was bringing everyone else's drinks to their respective tables I would expect the same). I don't know what his problem was but I was fed up and paid for the drinks (didn't tip which was a first in my life as well) and complained to hostess' and left. I don't know if it was because we were younger than the other people there (24 and 23) or if he was racist but never stepping foot in a place like that again.
Be the first to ReplyFood: I started with the burrata.
It was good, but literally every burrata is good. This one was simple. Burrata, prosciutto, some tomatoes, lightly seasoned. Delicate. I enjoyed it, but not really one to remember. The Public House in Mountainside, NJ has the best one I've had in a while. Dinner was the baked cod. Very nice. Sauce. Capers. Tomatoes. Olives. Really enjoyable dish. Not very heavy. I'd get it again, BUT the enjoy of the table was the veal osso buco served over mashed potatoes. I'm sure it was wasn't the healthiest option, but it looked awesome... and my buddy said it was as good as it looked!Service: what you'd expect at a place like this. Polite. Professional. Attentive, but not pushy. Atmosphere: Packed. Literally every seat was filled. White table cloth. Clean. Elegant, but tight. They have tables close to each other and they even have a table right by the front door which looked terrible. I'd be upset if they say us there. Miscellaneous: Good meal. Good service. I don't go back for dinner based on value.
Be the first to ReplyLove this restaurant.
One of the best kept secrets, tucked away in the lower level of a beautiful building just down the street from the University Club. My husband and I stop in for a drink and an appetizer or entrees whenever we are in the neighborhood. Great wine selection and the pasta is delicious. I don't eat seafood but my husband loves their specials every time. The service is always very good. The restaurant and small bar area are kept neat and clean. We will return again and again!
Be the first to ReplyI visit Il Gattopardo every time I'm in town from Omaha.
It's is out of this world. Very authentic and full of flavor. You won't be disappointed. The staff was on the ball and very eager to help. My only complaint would be that I didn't have my vaccination card so I had to sit on the sidewalk. Not a bother, just remember that when you go and visit.

First of all -- Make a reservation!! You will need it! Fantastic dining experience! Very pricey but definitely worth it. This is probably the finest Italian (and AUTHENTIC Italian) restaurant in NYC. It is as high as it gets. You can get REAL truffles here! Yes! And yes, they cost a bunch, but hey... it is REAL TRUFFLES! The wine list is EXTENSIVE! I wonder where they store all those wines in such a cozy place! The food is absolutely fantastic. I have ordered the pasta carbonara -- it is a brunch menu item -- but they did for me at dinner (twice). They are really accommodating. The deserts are really good as well. Get the gelato! It is pretty close to the real gelato you would get in Italy.
Be the first to ReplyI was looking for Italian food before a show in the city
I was looking for Italian food before a show in the city and came across this restaurant. We booked a 6:00 reservation and we were seated immediately and the service was spot on. I dined with a friend and our 2 daughters. They don't have a "kids" menu, but offered a standard spaghetti with marinara for the girls. Our server basically picked our wine, our appetizer, and entrees, which were all incredible. They provided bread service before our meal and we started with the octopus. It was outstanding!! I had the codfish which he warned would be a bit salty, but I love olives and capers so it was right up my alley. We didn't have time for desert which was disappointing but will be back again!!!
Be the first to ReplyWe enjoyed an absolutely lovely dinner last evening.
We frequent the Leopard on the West Side, and Il Gattopardo delivers the same spectacular food and service. The wait staff manages to be helpful, nearby but not hovering a skill many restaurants can not seem to carry off. The pastas were incredibly well executed. A charming respite from the world currently.....
