Three stars for the menu! I came at 11 and waited for about five minutes before deciding to eat at Culinary Drop out. Staff members seen walking around but no host to seat us. Time is money & finite. Will update my review to include food the next time I visit.

Where do I begin? Sub par experience, the server wasn't that great not sure why he was rude and not attentive but dang. We ordered the following: 1) edamame (very salty) 2) "popcorn chicken" which was sauced and was told a picky child would eat this. Was not told it was sauced and didn't eat so I was forced to so we didn't waste our food. 3) salmon poke - very salty and was not as good. And poke meaning sashimi BTW. 4) medium sized sashimi- wasn't as fresh as I thought and the cut of the sashimi was not consistent and too thick. Escolar was EXTREMELY fishy, 5) scallop sashimi and nigiri, the waiter did not understand and just gave me the two pieces when I asked for 4. 6) cucumber salad, very sour and not fresh with imitation saffron. I told the waiter I wanted to order more and he said "wow, really..ok what else do you want?" I wasted my money and time there. If you think about going there don't, just keep walking by.

Enjoyed a girls night out at Joi last weekend! We grabbed an 8:30pm reservation and the restaurant was pretty empty that late. Ambiance was beautiful but service was spotty. The staff was friendly and took our drink + food orders promptly, but after bringing out round 1 of drinks and our food, we never saw them again. They never checked in to see if we wanted to order more drinks, refill water, or anything. That was disappointing. The food was fantastic! My friend and I ordered: - Chicken truffle dumplings which were melt in your mouth delicious. - Wok Fried Asian Noodles - super flavorful and a very generous portion of meat + noodles! - Smokin Texas Roll - a little pricey for an 8 piece roll but very good quality!

Be the first to ReplyGood food.
In Domain. California are all good. Dumplings just OK. Fried rice good. Good place to go if you're shopping in the domain.

I've passed Joi many times while being in the Domain and finally stopped by for the first time for a team dinner. We had the Brussel sprouts, truffle fries, shishito peppers, pork & shrimp dumplings and chicken & truffle dumplings for appetizers. The brussels were under cooked but the fries were perfectly crispy and the pork & shrimp dumplings were definitely one of the best items of the night. We each got individual rolls and I went with the Smokin' Texas Roll. It included spicy salmon, shrimp tempura, avocado, jalapeno, scallion, unagi sauce, wasabi mayo. I would return for those rolls alone as they were to die for! To drink I got a lychee martini and I could've done without it, should've went with one of their house cocktails. With it being my first time, everything I tried was experimental but would return for the things that stood out to me!
Be the first to Replyfood is great.
Chris rocks. my work dinner location for the domain. i had the lobster roll and that was amazing. Also we had the steak roll which was surprisingly spicy. go here.

Delicious dinner just inside the dining space (so not fully sitting "inside"). Great server, "DG," see photo, was friendly, extremely helpful, and very attentive to our enjoyment of the meal. Had a sushi appetizer and truffle dumpling. Yum. Also a great, nice size Caesar salad offering (as I recall), along with the shrimp and pork shumai (which I would pass on next time, as overcooked, chewy, and not particularly flavorful), and the sirloin which was tender and delicious. DG made me coffee which was A+ service and really appreciated. Good meal in a nice setting, at a reasonable price.
Be the first to ReplyTheir salmon truffle were delicious.
Their taiwanese fried chicken were okay. Sichuan spicy dumpling were not my favorite. The Hamachin was great. So my preferences are their raw sushi dishes.
Be the first to ReplyDO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.
...the service awful, the manager was more concerned with having drinks with one of his buddies at the bar.... had to ask for the bill multiple times.... food was terrible to top it off. Rude beyond anything ever dealt with! Not even worth one star.
Be the first to ReplyWeird experience here.
Service was friendly but absent minded. Had to remind our server a few times on drinks, food etc. At one point we were told the bar was "backed up" when we could clearly see both bartenders were seeing if they balance a bottle on their index finger. Clearly not their fault but the server used that as excuse for forgotten cocktails. Food was uneven. Starters like rock shrimp, Brussels sprouts, and dumplings were very good. The fish quality on the rolls and sashimi was not great. Entrees were even worse, with tough overcooked orange beef and cloyingly sweet sesame chicken. Chicken fried rice was very flavorful but we did not like the chicken being battered and fried. Entree portions were small for price. Nothing we tried was unique or special. Definitely going for a trendy club like atmosphere with loud pop and EDM tunes. Pretty fun but not the place if you prefer conversation without having to raise your voice.

I really liked the food and drinks at Joi! It was a modern ambiance and decor. We snagged a Valentines Day reservation and it was solid food. Shishito peppers and fried rice were excellent. The tempura was ok, crispy but the sauce was not very flavorful.
Be the first to ReplyWe went there on a Saturday evening - a group of seven.
They took almost 45 minutes to get our drinks order and another 15 minutes for the food order. All in all it almost took us two hours to be done I had to redo my plate because it was not gluten-free even though that's what I had specifically asked to change . The drinks were alright .

Had a great time at Joi in the domain! We sat outside on the patio since it was so nice out. Patio area is extremely nice as it is lit up for evenings anhas a nice view to people watch from a few various angles! Loved that they also had an indoor / outdoor patio where you could still feel the AC! Service during our time was amazing & accommodating! We were constantly checked on & had everything that we need. Food / drinks:I thought the food was enjoyable for light bites and snacks. I highly recommend the spicy edamame! I'm not sure what type of chili oil / sauce they put on it, but the kick is delightful! The beef potstickers were good but lacked something in my personal opinion so I dipped it in the edamame sauce which blew my mind & raised the bar for them for me. Brussel sprouts were like anything I had had before but were also yummy. Slightly sweet with the sauce that comes with but good nonetheless! My man had the veggie ramen & he loved it! Said the mesh of aromas they put in it made it so filling, he didn't even miss the meat! For drinks we had the hot girl summer which I would get again as it was refreshing & not overly sweet! My man had a kirchin beer & loved it! This is a nice spot to relax & take in the sites so we will be back!!

The restaurant is located at a prime location, the vibe of the restaurant and surrounding area is beautiful. For food we ordered sushi, vegan rolls, poke bowl, steamed tofu bun, spicy edamame, shishito peppers. The food was amazing. Steamed tofu bun in particular was fantastic, the bao bun was a little sweet and the filling in the bun was fantastic. Their spicy edamame is definitely worth a shot since they are not that spicy. Sushi and veggie roll were delish. Our waitress recommended us some of the options, service is a little slow with main course, but they do bring food out as soon as it's ready which is good.

Cedric was very tentative the food was immaculate, and the drinks were delicious. The staff was absolutely amazing to all of our needs and wants! All of the items came out, fresh and fast. The bar was fully stocked, and the ambience was more than relaxing, the music as well was an absolute dream.
Be the first to ReplyJoi is a really solid restaurant option at the domain.
We rarely make it up to north Austin, but when we do, we make a point to go here! The food is really really good and the ambiance is nice. I recommend sitting on the patio. The Lobster Tacos are an amazing starter along with the chicken and truffle dumplings. We then got the Fire Kiss roll which was incredible and the Gyu Don stone pot rice. This was the perfect amount of food for 3 people and we loved every bit of it!

Two years later and memories just got brought up ab this place. Nasty. If you want to eat expired fish go ahead, but alright me and my friends were there. Ppl were making out like crazy right next to us and it took over two hours for our food. The sushi tasted like it came from the subway bathroom. Okay have a good night bye. Normally I would waste my time on this but it was that bad.
Be the first to ReplyFinally found another good Asian place in Domain.
Best food the best service and of course the best ambiance.

The food was good however staff was aloof and standing in a corner chatting most of the time. When I did order something simple like a side of truffle aioli or a new cocktail it took 7-10 minutes to get to me and we were the only party in the place other than another table of 4. They didn't have all front of house doors unlocked during business hours which is not only a fire hazard but illegal... when my friend who was having the birthday there accidentally tried to walk out the door the hostess which I later learned was named Daniela laughed at her then walked to the back with the cluster of servers just chatting and pointed and laughed. Our server smiled but then saw I was watching and walked away and dropped his smile. Disrespectful staff. Bad service. Good food. I would order takeout but never eat in again.

Wowzers!! What a great find! There wasn't a thing we didn't love. The service was perfect. I don't know the edamame magic...it was just regular edamame...but the best I've ever had! Crazy. The salmon nigiri was melt-in-your-mouth buttery. We had to order more. I'm still dreaming of it. The rainbow roll was so fresh and delicious. The chicken and truffle dumplings added something with a little crunch to our choices. And the cocktails were really good. The regular margarita was top notch. But the real surprise was "One Night in Bangkok"....it is really really tasty. We loved the ambiance and the proximity to other fun places in the Domain to check out afterwards. I can't wait to go back!
