Be the first to ReplyThere is something fishy about Josos
Hospitality HOT SPOT ever since 1967 , this home away from home place has been my culinary oasis since 1987 . Their black risotto is DA BEST in the world and decor ... c-mon ..where do you have Salvador Dali and Picasso art casually displayed like in Josos . Service is top class casual with respect ! Hard copy of their menu can be framed as art how good it is , so we stole few shhhhh

We returned to Joso's after many years to celebrate a birthday party. We were met at the door by Paul who was very friendly and immediately made us feel welcome. The wait staff were superb in explaining the menu, displaying various kinds of fish and seafood, and knowledgeable about wine options. Our party of 10 ordered calamari, mussels, steak, risotto, spaghettini with shrimp, sardines, salads, red and white wine. Without exception, everyone's meal was wonderful. Paul continually checked on us and made sure that we had everything we wanted. Tiramisu, ice cream and cookies for dessert also did not disappoint. This restaurant is pricey, but the service and food is exceptional. Our only negative comment would be the noise. It was difficult to hear others at the table except for the person sitting right next to you. There was background music also, which made it more difficult to hear. But, the food and service made up for this inconvenience.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a Superb Seafood Dining Experience Just Outside Of Yorkville
We arrived 1 hour earlier than our reservation of 6:30pm, and Paul, the host seated us. He made every effort to know our first names and chatted with us nicely. He also wished my wife a Happy Birthday. Our waitress: Zerha was very attentive, friendly and cheerful between showing us the intro fish platter, taking our orders, and checking with us throughout to make sure we were taken care of. The bar master informed us about the Gavi wine that we ordered and came by regularly to make sure our glasses were always filled as we expected. The wait staff collectively were superb. Our Adria salad was very tasty and the dressing was perfect. Zerha was kind enough to let us alter a menu item where we added pasta to the seafood mix of clams/mussels and shrimp. This dish was by far the best that we have ever experienced in any seafood restaurant, and we do travel much of the world and have sampled many similar dishes. We especially loved the shrimp…it was very dense. The décor in the restaurant is a little “wild” with all sorts of pictures and trinkets on the walls and on shelves throughout, but kind of appropriate for Joso’s. We were pleasantly surprised by the fair prices on the menu for all items, having expected to be charged much more being that it was downtown Toronto, and on the outskirts of Yorkville. The wine bottle prices were a bit steep, assuming they were almost four times the typical price at the liquor store. All in all, we truly enjoyed our dining experience at Joso’s and we do expect to return the next time we are in the mood for some excellent seafood. Thank you to: Paul, Zerha, the Bar Master and the owners of Joso’s.

it was a nice night out, to this historical and hidden gem. Thank you again for the best seafood Italian delight we have had in a long time. And will be back again, (inflation really did impact this place) to see the prices is like OOOOO la la!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful anniversary dinner
It's a small boutique restauant with excellent service and excellent seafood. We were celebrating our 39th anniversary which they acknowledged with a glass of prosecco which was a lovely gesture. The grilled fish was so delicious and the calamari was tasty. Our server was attentive and funny and worked hard to make sure we were pleased. We look forward to celebrating our next anniversary there too. Thank you Joso's for a wonderful evening.

Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Knowing how Croatian sea food can taste I was looking forward to eating at Joso’s. I was disappointed with very dry sardines, and uncooked red peppers (advertised as grilled). The garlic I asked for was tasteless. After asking for the peppers to be cooked, they were still raw and went back for a third time, only to have them slightly charred. This is not grilled peppers. The sea bass was nice, the mango ice cream too. Graševina wine good, although we were first advised to have the most expensive Croatian wine, which arrived with a label without any writing. Would I go back? No
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Food and Service
Upon entering Joso’s we were warmly greeted by Paul. He made sure that we had the perfect location for my friend’s birthday celebration. The food and service are great. There are lots of excellent choices on the menu that can be shared. There is an impressive selection of fresh fish. There is also a wonderful selection of wines that complement the food. Two of us shared the Calamari. One person had the Smoked Trout Salad and the other person ordered the Tomato & Bufala. For our mains two of us had the Grilled Prawns, and the others had the Grilled Sardines and the Grilled Octopus. Everyone in our party loved every dish we had. The desserts were also delicious. Another plus is the staff. The service is seemless and professional. Our server, Shirka, provided excellent service. When we asked what choice of Croatian wine would complement our food choices, she suggested one that was an excellent choice with everyone’s dish. It was so nice to have someone who was knowledgeable to assist us with our wine and food choices. Shirka’s friendly and professional manner as well as her excellent suggestions were appreciated. She made us feel at home and our party had an enjoyable dining experience thanks to her. Once you have eaten here you will look forward to returning because the food is fresh and delicious and the service is first class.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding do-over at Joso
We had a bad experience at Joso and a negative review was written in 2021, I am officially changing this to a five star review! We returned to Joso after an 18 month hiatus wanting to enjoy an incredible dinner and wanting to have an experience that was the exact opposite of our previous experience. From the moment we walked through the door Paul welcomed us warmly, our servers were very present and helpful, our food was outstanding and we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. Thank you to the entire team at Joso for a wonderful evening.
Be the first to ReplyLovely unique evening
This was a lovely yet unique experience. The host welcomed us and clearly paid attention to everyone dining there. There was a definite Croatian atmosphere that was accentuated when the server brought a large plate with6-8 fish and octopus from the Adriatic and Mediterranean area available along with the menu items. The fish, if you chose one, were grilled much as they would be in that area. My fish and additional veg was devoured and no one left anything on their plate. Virtually everything was available gluten free which is essential for my wife. It was a lovely dinner with great atmosphere. We bumped onto the owner as we were leaving and had a great chat with him as well. Strong recommendation.

This was one of the dinners I was looking forward to because it was recommended, Craving for some good seafood. Specially my Octopus was rubbery. Was it overcooked, I dont know. Slow service but the place had a good wibe. Might give it anothet try.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Atmosphere, attentive service and good food
We (2 couples) had booked a table at Joso's for a special Birthday treat for one of us so we were hoping to have a good time. We weren't disappointed. The decor alone is fascinating and provides an excellent backdrop to the overall dining experience. Service is efficient but attentive and menu options well explained - particularly the speciality daily fish options. We all enjoyed our meals, both starters and mains and the accompanying wine was just right. Three of our party had whole fish and one the fish medley. No puddings because we were all too full so I can't comment on those. We left feeling upbeat and well looked after. It's not a cheap eat but the prices are fair given the quality of the food and the service.

Great dinner at Joso’s. Hazelton concierge reserved a table for me. 1/2 of Croatian white, Spagettini ala Siciliana to start then the sardines. Croatian crepes and limoncello to finish. Service food quality and atmosphere were top notch. Can’t wait to go back with family and friends.
Be the first to ReplySo Disappointing ..........
We have been long time clients of Joso and have only had outstanding meals there in the past, we were very disappointed last week, in fact, we felt that the restaurant was possibly closing very soon. We drive an hour to eat at Joso so we haven't been there since the pandemic started. We know that the restaurant industry has been stretched to limits never before felt but this experience went way beyond. First off they were out of their sardine appetizer, okay this can happen, then we were told that they were out of rice (can't they just boil another pot of it?), they only had two pieces of market grilled fish available (but didn't tell us this until long after we ordered) and then provided another fresh fish which was double the price of the fish without telling us. When we spoke with the manager he said sorry and gave us two complimentary side dishes of pasta and some dessert. The food we did receive was delicious but two diners at our table walked away hungry. They were also out of sweetener and do not offer any gluten free pasta or bread options. The service was poor in that the table was being cleared while some us were still eating in fact the server learned over someone who was eating and took a plate that they were still eating from. The manager said we could have avoided being disappointed if we had pre-ordered all of our food, we would have been happy to do that if it was offered to us when they called to confirm the reservation, but it wasn't. Our reservation was for 8pm so they should have not been out of all of those items. We will not be making the hour drive again for a meal at Joso.
I would like to update that the owner of Joso did call me a week after this review was posted and apologized profusely. Without being asked they refunded our bills for the evening and have promised to do better in the future. Our poor experience highlighted areas where they need to do better and have said they will do so.
Hello Joso's
Of course its still the best delicious fish restaurant in Toronto, The taste is still the same, but the previous waiter has not returned.
Love Joso's forever.
Italian Fix
Was craving for some nice pasta. Pastas take out is not a good idea I think, My grilled squid was bit chewy. Lamb rack was ok. Pleasant but the money I paid it didnt wow me,
Be the first to ReplyGot Joso’s from the book of restaurants not to miss - it deserved to be in there!
Another outstanding dining experience- and healthy! Quixotic decor (the owner’s art, nudes and the Adriatic somehow come together to create atmosphere that adds to the experience). Family owned and run showing up in the service; we were treated well. The food was simple but fresh and full of flavour. Three of us were able to share several seafood dishes and a sides platter. Started with Fish Soup, a tomato vegetable broth with morsels of white fish - as good as any cioppino I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried it everywhere! Then Grilled Octopus, Gamberoni and fresh Sea Bass accompanied by sides platter of grilled peppers, Swiss chard, beets, basmati rice, Dalmatian potato salad. Djuvedi was served separately to accommodate garlic intolerance. Did I say the seafood was fresh! Simple preparation, Sea Bass served whole, grilled; three octopus tentacles grilled and drizzled with olive oil (garlic left out); four large prawns butterflied and grilled, lemon garlic butter on the side. Desserts were creme brûlée, tiramisu and fresh berries. My taster of the creme brûlée left me wanting more but I stuck to the berries which satisfied. The Tiramisu was reported to also satisfy. All together a great dining experience if somewhat pricey. Forgot to take pictures as food looked too good so just got berries and most of the creme brûlée.

The selection of fresh fish and seafood is remarkable and always superb.
Whatever your desire for fish will be met with the array that will be brought to your table for you to select from. And the risotto specials are not up be missed.
Never disappointed - always satisfied and amazed.
Good food, slow service
The food is good here but it is definitely overpriced. You can get the same seafood plate at another restaurant for half the price. We tried several of the dishes and they were decent. The servers try to upsell you on everything and pressure you to eat more food even though you are full. Once our server realized we weren’t going to be a table that would buy several bottles of wine, the level of service diminished. Our finished plates stayed on the table for a long period of time, we weren’t offered coffee/dessert menu and our glasses weren’t refilled. We were disappointed by the level of service, especially since I heard so many great reviews about this place. Also the atmosphere is very loud so you have to shout to each other. And it’s incredibly crammed! So disappointed as our bill came out to nearly $500. Probably won’t return here.

This place is near and dear to my heart. I go every year for my birthday, and it is always exceptional. The seafood risotto is my favourite. Quality ingredients, great service, romantic ambiance and European vibes. I loveeeeeeeeeee Joso's <3. Best seafood in Toronto.

Personally, there’s nothing exceptional about the Joso’s restaurant. The food was dry. We had the sole fish meal. The space is small & cramped and the decor is interesting and unusual depending on your taste. I would consider it a bit eccentric.
By virtue of the number of people that night, I would say it seems quite a popular restaurant.
I won’t consider this a favourite place.
