Kissaki Sushi Reviews from The Last Year
With all of the great reviews I really wanted to like this
With all of the great reviews I really wanted to like this place. Did I just catch someone on a bad day? I hope so. The positives were that the service was good, nice attentive staff. To start, the fish wasn't sliced properly. Every piece inconsistent, some with pieces without the bloodline removed, some sliced so thin and unevenly that you can see through to the rice, and some pieces of fish dangling off the neta/ topping. I felt mortified for the sushi chef. I stopped taking pictures after a while, they just looked awful. There was a piece where the uni was placed below the piece of fish. Not sure what the value was in that - gets completely smushed down. The rice wasn't right either. Some were quite warm from being taken out straight from the rice cooker, some were cold, and there was a lot of inconsistency with each piece - some that felt grainy and not cooked all the way. On top of that the taste was quite bland, and what I think was meant to be toro was a bit sinewy. Didn't feel like any piece was really that pleasant unfortunately. Just wanted this to end. Understand that sushi in ny is not meant to be as good as it is in Japan but this has completely scarred me. The uni pasta wasn't too bad though although the cream sauce didn't have much of an uni taste (special they have on through April and what completely goaded me to come here - never getting fooled by Instagram again!).
The food was stunning.
The service was amazing! I had such a great experience. I will definitely be going back!

I actually came here for a date and the omakase was really delicious. The fish seemed to be of great quality. The service was very attentive and they seemed to pay attention to every little detail within the restaurant. I actually ate outside and was surprised to see and smell that everything was beautiful and smelling nice bcs in New York City I mean.... You never know right haha! It was such a great experience!

Everything was pretty good, being a sushi snob probably by now I would call myself, visiting Japan for work and pleasure several times a year, there isn't much in the states that can impress me. Especially how expensive everything has gone up since Covid and with an expensive meal like this one, tipping shows appreciation which we do for the real deal Japanese chef, but when the tip can be a couple hundred bucks, it's not as enjoyable anymore. There needs to be some balance of value and quality, it's quite far apart. It was to celebrate my family's birthdays, we're all in February. We had Kamasu by kissaki before which was a hand roll set and I thought that was a super good deal, huge amounts of fish and omakase of 5-6 was only $75? Kissaki Bowery was $150 some appetizers that were not innovative or with wow factors for this price, standard on the sushi. I paid $300 deposit for the four of us at reservation time. In Japan with the current exchange rate, we could of had this meal and better for less than $40 each. No taxes, no tips. It's ok once in a while to celebrate at an overpriced nice restaurant. Shari had good texture and flavor with the akasu. Fish was standard not much stood out. Been there done that. I think the crazy Chinese omakase Chef's with bluefin, uni, caviar, shaved truffles all in one bite I find more exciting cuz Japan doesn't do that. Sushi Blossoms, near MSG. Kissaki like a Nobu without the Nikkei flavors and wow ness. Actually I think I spent more at kissaki than Nobu with my family. We had a great time being together. Family is most important and brings the happiness that covers all negativity.

I recently made a visit to kissaki this past Sunday and this was my second time dining in for their omakase experience. It's safe to say that the second visit was even better than the first. The sushi chef as well as the server that took care of us throughout the meal were both so sweet and attentive. I opted for the 15 course omakase and added on a wagyu handroll from their Al la carte menu. The uni handroll as well as the toro and ikura handroll stood out to me the most. But overall, each piece was very delicious and the fish quality without a doubt was very fresh. Would recommend paying a visit for a date night or just with a friend if you're ever craving sushi!
I've been a loyal patron of Kissaki Bowery since its
I've been a loyal patron of Kissaki Bowery since its opening, and I'm here to tell you, it remains unrivaled as the best omakase experience in NYC, bar none. Even with heavyweights like Masa in the mix, Kissaki stands out for its exceptional culinary artistry and ambiance. Each visit to Kissaki is an adventure, a culinary journey that begins with the most refined appetizers - think dashi broth with steamed squash, steamed egg custard with eel, and the most divine tuna tartare served with crisp nori sheets. The attention to detail, the freshness of the ingredients, and the subtle complexities of flavors in these dishes set the stage for what is always an extraordinary dining experience. But let's talk about the main event - the Omakase nigiri selection. Each piece of nigiri is a masterpiece, pre-brushed with soy sauce, eliminating the need for additional dipping and allowing the pure flavors to shine through. From the buttery toro to the delicate sea bream, each bite is a revelation. Even the uni, which I approached with caution, added a unique dimension to the experience, underscoring the chefs' commitment to authenticity and quality. What truly sets Kissaki apart, though, is its dedication to the essence of Japanese cuisine, the impeccable service, and the intimate, elegantly casual setting. The restaurant has rightfully earned its Michelin Plate, a testament to its excellence and consistency in delivering an unmatched Omakase experience. Kissaki Bowery isn't just another sushi spot; it's a culinary institution that celebrates the best of Japanese cuisine with every dish served. It's the place I recommend to anyone looking for the pinnacle of sushi dining in New York, a place where food transcends to art. In a city brimming with Omakase options, Kissaki Bowery continues to reign supreme, offering a dining experience that's as unforgettable as it is unparalleled.
Chef Taro Kiso brought culinary art and skill to the table
Chef Taro Kiso brought culinary art and skill to the table with his limited time in the USA. His friendly demeanor settled the anxious first-time omakase tasters and reassured the skeptical seasoned consumers of the industry, and that's certainly a plus! The sushi hit all the right marks, and we yearned for more so we ordered a roll that's on the menu instead of getting another piece from the omakase list. Since it was near closing time, we couldn't order whatever we originally wanted but settled on a roll that satisfied our hungry bellies. We ordered several drinks and the yuzu margarita was refreshing. The sparkling soda was refreshing and a nice treat for those who don't want any alcohol. We also got a pot of green tea to round things out in the end. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the seating behind the omakase bar. I was hoping for a quiet evening where we can savor every morsel without interruption but that's difficult to achieve when you have rowdy customers 6 feet from your back. It's understandable, people are having fun, but I suppose the layout could've been better.

Had an amazing experience with Chef Taro Kiso, for the limited time tasting menu. It was my first time visiting Kissaki, and I was amazed with how beautiful the interior is. The restaurant is nicely decorated, with a very intimate and professional feel. The staff are super friendly and very helpful during the entire meal. Chef Taro Kiso was a delight and it was an honor to be personally served by him. The dishes were so pretty and carefully crafted. All of the appetizers were so unique, but I have to still say my favourite was the Toro Nigiri. Hope I can visit chef in Kyoto someday. Definitely will come back to Kissaki for their normal omakase course as well. Highly recommend!
The food was average but the prices for average were high.
The service was good, atmosphere lovely. Depends on what you're looking for
Sushi was great.
But the course took forever. We had the watch the chef prep everything after every 2 pieces. We watched her wash things, we watched her cook the rice.. I guess that's what makes it fresh? But our course took over 2 hours...
Flagrant violator
This restaurant has taken over most of the sidewalk with a big enclosed structure. By law, the cleared walkway must be eight feet. This place left enough space to walk single file. How is this structure still standing?

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a responseโฆ how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been โmatchedโ with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?
