This place is sooo soo good.
It is located right by the port so you get amazing views. Plus, it isn't too crowded because it is located on the second floor of this hotel. This place isn't one of those touristy places where they serve you bad food. They take their food quality really seriously here. You can tell based off of what you get. The wait staff is pretty nice although service is really slow. I suppose it is not the American way where they push you out. Instead, they take your time so you can enjoy your food. For parents of little ones though, I would have appreciated some more expediency. The food was sooooo good. They serve typical Provincal food. We got their seafood platter. The freshly made garlic mayo complimented the food perfectly. I also got the shrimp and rice. This was yummy but not as good as the seafood platter. The next day we got grilled octopus with rice. The octopus was perfectly grilled. For high quality food, the price point isn't too bad. I think it is on the more affordable end.

LOVED the cocktails here, with such a nice view! The balcony was great too, if you're just in for drinks! The tapas provided with the drinks were also a great compliment, olives, cheese, etc.

The service in this place SUCKS!!! The food is almost passable but nothing great. Tourist trap for sure. STAY AWAY!!!

This restaurant solidifies the French stereotype of disliking Americans. The only reason that we went there was because of a good yelp review. Two weeks in Europe and we loved everything except the staff in this restaurant.

Went to La Caravelle while in Port from the MSC cruise ship Miraviglia. We saw good reviews on yelp so we decided to try. My map app kept telling us we were at the Destination but we could not find it. It is on the second floor overlooking the water. Just look up. We did see the menu posted outside, all in French. Do not be intimidated. While they have no English menus inside, staff was very helpful and translated and made recommendations. I also used Google translate to help out. Food was fantastic good wine, very reasonable price. my wife had the swordfish special and I had The salted cod with vegetables. A traditional dish in Marseille, My wife loved the sword fish. Lots of locals in there, definitely not a tourist trap.
Be the first to ReplyThe view was great and the restaurant is in a prime
The view was great and the restaurant is in a prime location, but the service was almost non existent. We arrived on an off hour so I'll give them that, but they were still offering a bar menu. We ordered a cheese plate and a smoked salmon appetizer, both which are cold and need only to be taken from the fridge and placed on a plate and voila. We were 2 of the 4 people in the restaurant so it wasn't busy by any means, and about 20 minutes went by without even a plate of bread. We had to ask if the food was coming at all. After we asked it came right out. It just showed they didn't really care. Beautiful views but we won't be going back to La Caravelle.

After reading the good reviews, we stopped in for dinner on a Monday night. The server offered to seat us on the small balcony that overlooks the old port, but I couldn't handle sitting a foot away from a smoker. Sitting inside by a window with a great view, we ordered a couple of glasses of rosé. Our server also brought some tasty bites - chickpeas with mustard sauce, corn with some peppers, and seafood crostini. Turns out they don't have dinner on Monday nights, but they have ardois (literal translation "blackboard") which are protein-centric appetizers served on slate plates. We chose a sardine ardois and a beef carpaccio ardois. The beef carpaccio was thin round slices of beef with capers, pesto, and parmesan cheese. The sardine ardois was 4 sardines (French coast sized, not American sized) atop salad, served with a cut and toasted roll with tomato (similar to bruschetta). Considering the jet lag, it was just about a perfect portion size for a light dinner, particularly with the free tastes offered with drinks. After our ardois and the second round of wine, she brought more free tastes - this time a potato salad with curry and something else that made it yellow, cucumbers with goat cheese, and olive tapenade crostini. Our server was friendly and quite helpful, even in English, and the view couldn't be beat.

One of my favorite spots in the city, this gem on the Vieux Port is not to be missed. The view is fantastic, the service is friendly and the wine list is great. Most evenings they offer a small plate of tapas when you order a glass of wines, but if you're really hungry the cheese and charcuterie plates are delicious. The one negative note would be that they sometimes do concerts and the space can get really crowded and isn't really adapted for sound quality, so if may end up shouting across the table. Overall though a great bar and nice to see a change and not another Irish pub.
Be the first to ReplyVery rude service.
Waitress had a chip on her shoulder and did not try to assist us in any way. We left because of her rudeness. 0/20 F+ do not recommend. FAIRE ATTENTION ICI LES GARS C'EST PAS SYMPA LE RESTO
