Iโ€™m afraid The Tour has slipped a notch or two.

4/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Tony S on 09/14/2025

To us, the Tour represented the very best in top Parisienne cuisine. On our previous visits, not only were we unable to find a fault in any aspect of the welcome, service or food, but something at the Tour has slipped. On entering the usual reception staff hovered around but seemed to look a little unsure of what was happening. No smiles and no invitation to take an aperitif in the lovely ground floor bar. The restaurant was very busy as usual and the view of course was, as always, beautiful. However, the staff were definitely not as attentive as on previous visits and we were given cursory explanations of the food we were about to eat. Previously we were addressed with some humour by a senior member of staff between courses and made to feel a little special. That seems to have gone sadly. I canโ€™t criticise the food because it is never less than good but we couldnโ€™t say it was exceptional; possibly because we were guessing at what we were tasting, Iโ€™m not sure. Sadly, instead of making this our โ€˜go toโ€™ special event restaurant in Paris we may venture further afield for the foreseeable future. One nice touch on our last visit was that the owner chatted to each table in turn. Obviously he canโ€™t do that all the time but the noise level in the restaurant has risen to the point where that would have been a bit pointless. One of our delights previously was that you could barely hear the activity in the kitchen area and the chatting in the restaurant didnโ€™t try to compete. That seems to have gone now too.

We loved it!

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @LeftFork on 09/13/2025

Going to a Michelin starred restaurant was on my bucket list and Paris seemed like a good place to do it so I reserved Tour d'Argent because it got good reviews and had a set lunch menu which sounded good and cost quite a bit less than dinner. While I don't think I am miserly I am kinda frugal. We were a party of three and we all thought it was the best meal we have ever had. It was also the most expensive. It's 165 Euros each for lunch. We thought it was worth it. Purified tap water both sparkling and still was included, thank goodness. One of our party had a glass of rose wine which he thought was excellent. The service was also spectacular and the establishment seems to hire naturally charming people which is very smart. Everyone was just lovely. And the view of Paris is quite breathtaking. I liked it so much I am thinking of going back. It actually helps that the water is included; like I said I'm frugal. Men have to have suit jackets and women should dress nicely. Shorts are not welcome. Reseerve ealy as it is not a big place. We highly recommend it.

Best in France!

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Won C on 09/10/2025

This is my step fatherโ€™s favorite restaurant. I have always wanted to come eat here, but every visit to France, I was in tight schedule, but finally I get to try lunch course meal. All course meal was very satisfying! I was like, I know the taste, but I cannot guess what they were. I had my step father explains to me some of the ingredients. I think I can eat them everyday. Service was great and beyond. The waiters take away me and my fatherโ€™s dish exact same time to less disturb us(never had this experience in my life before). I did not get the wine cellar tour because it was on construction, but I was told they have one of the biggest wine cellar. Now it is my favorite restaurant!

Never again

2/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Janev_Australia on 07/12/2025

We arrived at the Tour d'argent dressed properly for lunch...or so we thought. One of us got stopped at the door as his clean, beautiful Comme de Garรงons jacket was considered 'unacceptable'!! He was asked to take it off and put on a restaurant-supplied (very stained and smelly) jacket. He naturally remonstrated with this arbiter of taste and decorum and an unseemly and unnecessary row ensued. Not good for the digestion. We were then dumped on a table near the entrance and given a herbal drink. We simmered. After about ten minutes, we were then ushered up the lift and seated, in Siberia, near the kitchen. Looking around at the other guests, I noted with interest, t-shirts and those seriously awfu l pastel linen jackets, in shades of pink and lemon, worn by sleazy property developers in the Gold Coast of Australia, along with their signature, white shoes. Hardly a paragon of style we aspire to. They are so crass and they are not 'suit' jackets. As for the women.. a 'seen better days' cotton tank dress accessorised with falling down,, grubby bra straps is not what I want to see while lunching. In summary, the dress code at this restaurant is a farce. We were offered menus and the wine bible. We chose the lunch menu and glasses of wine to match The food was 'nice' but really at these stratospheric prices, it should be brilliant. The portions were TINY. We had lunched here over the years and always enjoyed the food. This time it was disappointing. Wines by the glass were pleasant but somewhat underwhelming. The owner came around to say 'hullo'. I bit my tongue and refrained from giving him a piece of mind about his insistence on an outdated and inconsistently applied dress code. I had had enough drama for thus lunch. We were given glasses of Armagnac as some kind of apology for the incident. We then got the bill, blanched at its enormity, paid and left. Never again. That was our last visit to this place. Best left to the linen jacket set.

ne gaspillez pas votre argent! I was genuinely looking

1/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Mark M. on 06/12/2025

ne gaspillez pas votre argent! I was genuinely looking forward to our evening at La Tour d'Argent, but our experience was overshadowed by how poorly the staff handled a reservation issue--and how unwilling they were to make it right. Due to an illness in our group, I rescheduled our reservation by speaking directly with the manager, Martin. He warned that failure to show would result in a charge of approximately โ‚ฌ400 per person, so we were careful to confirm everything via text. I appreciated the clarity and followed through. When we arrived, however, the hostess could not find our reservation. Rather than offer assistance or even a courteous apology, she walked away and returned to bluntly state, "Sorry, we don't have it." I showed her the confirmation text and called Martin. He insisted his system showed a cancellation and claimed it "must have been you," despite the fact that we had communicated and confirmed directly. He could offer no explanation--and no help. What stood out most wasn't just the mix-up, but the complete lack of hospitality: no attempt to resolve the issue, not even a gesture as simple as offering a seat or a drink while they looked into it. We were dismissed and left standing. For a restaurant of this caliber, with its history and legacy, I expected grace and professionalism. I've had remarkable dining experiences in Paris--at Ducasse, Savoy, Apicius, to name a few--but have never been treated with such indifference. La Tour d'Argent may have an iconic view and storied past, but hospitality must be felt in the present. Unfortunately, on this night, it simply wasn't.

Absolutely positively impeccable. I love history and I love historic places. The feeling you get dining in a place from the 1500's is beyond reproach. 5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Joe D. on 08/02/2024

Easily one of the best restaurants in the world, and definitely one of the oldest in Paris (1582). Food service and ambience are dream-like perfection. Just before the Olympics our hotel concierge pulled strings and got a reservation. 5 star ambience: it doesn't get much better than what seems like a Belle Epoque townhouse with walls of windows facing great views: Notre Dame et al. Inside, the hushed very classy ambience works well with the amazing food. 5 star food: even something simple like broiled chicken comes with lots of bells and whistles, is astoundingly good, and is worth every penny. You get some of the world's best food for premium prices, and the food is amazing. 5 star service: our waiter was about as close to perfect as I've ever seen. In fact the whole team was a quietly choreographed ballet. They even seem to have hand signals from across the room. In short, if the world were ending, I'd want my last meal to be HERE

Special Dinner at Tour d'Argent

5/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @michaelF5052IF on 07/23/2024

This is a special experience from the moment the door is opened for you when you arrive. This is a historic restaurant that is also modern and fresh. The staff is attentive, professional and knowledgeable. We were made to feel comfortable and important, even though dining at a restaurant such as this can be a daunting experience. The food is amazing, beautiful and creative (and delicious). The sommelier guided me through the (to be honest, the overwhelmingly large) wine list and distilled the list simply. At the end of the evening, the roof top was not busy. We were invite up to see the Eiffel tower light up and sparkle. Our evening at La Tour d'Aargent was a wonderful dining experience from start to finish.

We received a gift (2 x 150 Euro) for a lunch at the Tour d'Argent. Drinks and a "supplement" cheese were not included. I was not surprised about that, but I was surprised about the cost of that being 128% of the value of the gift. Fine place, great service, but over-priced.

Another Michelin star restaurant in my tasting menu

4/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Alex N. on 12/01/2023

Another Michelin star restaurant in my tasting menu marathon. This time at the long established 1 star Tour ฤ Argent. Highlights of the restaurant are the gracious greetings, beautiful decor (sans chairs, the dining chairs are not aesthetically appealing), but they were at least comfortable which is incredibly important when embarking on a tasting menu. And the portions are generous. My recommendation, though, after having the tasting menu would be to order A La Carte. Unless you're really into the fine dining classics of French cuisine. The cadence of the dishes is a little too slow for my liking. I don't like a lot of downtime between dishes, and if you're doing a tasting menu, this downtime can be grueling. The recommendations would be Langostines Royal for starters, the blue lobster for main and for dessert get either or both the Crepes Madamoiselle and the Soufflรฉ. (The Crepes will are prepared tableside with the traditional theater involved in making Crepes Suzzette. The dining room is beautiful and dramatic at the same time being located on the top floor. There is also a rooftop bar with dining options. But it's open only during the spring and summer months. We went with the 6 dish tasting menu, which was โ‚ฌ440 per person without wine pairing, and took three and half hours to complete. I don't know if it was because it was winter and because this restaurant is on the top floor, but the dining room was much too cold. We saw several other guests were asking for blankets halfway through our meal. Highlights, beautiful dining room. Incredible wine list. Perhaps the most impressive wine list in all of Paris. Great signature cocktails. This place seems to be an institution amongst Parisians and much beloved by the locals as many people were either in jealous or in awe when we mentioned that we had reservations for dinner there. The not so highpoints. Sadly, there is no small token of appreciation given to you at the end of the evening. The staff, seemed a little too young and inexperienced. Although courteous, they lack the polish that other top establishments have. The dining room was extremely cold.

Our first visit there (not the last time when I reviewed

4/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @C T. on 11/17/2023

Our first visit there (not the last time when I reviewed the restaurant) for a decade ago for our milestone birthday. We just hit another milestone so we really wanted to eat here again, but booked our trip very last minute. I emailed the restaurant and asked the concierge at the Park Hyatt to call for us to no avail. The day before, I just checked online and times freed up so I was super excited to book the table. New chef, and truthfully, the cuisine felt refreshed in a good way. They still had the giant portion of the foie, but had a very tasty three preparation of langoustines which I loved. The Marco Polo duckling preparation was very good, but the green pepper sauce didn't quite have the richness and punch that I remembered and was craving. It was too subtle for the gaminess of the duck. By the time the second dish came out of the sautรฉed parts of duck, I was stuffed. Dessert was fun...we had the black currant soufflรฉ which was huge. Also, had the pear tarte which was good but not great. The chocolate dessert which they comped us, was the best. I knocked a star off for ambiance. They allowed a couple in with a toddler, which I was super annoyed with because we also had a toddler on our first visit and left him at home. When he was old enough to eat properly at a fine dining restaurant using cutlery on his own and having proper table manners was when we allowed him to join us at Tour D'Argent. That kid was so annoying, but it's the parents that I fault...they had no business being that selfish in affecting the experience of the other diners. Either get a babysitter at the hotel or wait until your kid is old enough to sit quietly without crying and screaming. This isn't a family diner...it's a Michelin star restaurant. I feel like the restaurant placed money ahead of their guests and patrons. They should have turned them away since I do remember reading that there was an age minimum somewhere on their website. Clearly they don't enforce it, although I did notice the manager eyeing the table in annoyance when that kid started fussing. I found the younger wait staff to be more energetic and fun...they made the experience for us.

I notice that the "outstanding" reviews of this restaurant

1/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Joel W. on 05/13/2023

I notice that the "outstanding" reviews of this restaurant that pop up go back a number of years, one more than 13 years ago. They deserve a response. Right before Covid, I took my daughter to Paris for an eating excursion. We hit a Bib Gourmand, a one-star, and a three-star (Arpege), all of which were memorable and very, very friendly to us as Americans. Lest my daughter leave Paris thinking everyone was very friendly and delicious, I booked a table at Tour d'Argent, where her mother and I had shared a (perfectly lovely, if hauty) meal on our honeymoon a quarter century earlier. That was when they'd lost one star, and afterwards, another one. I sent a lovely letter to the restaurant describing this special occasion and asked if we might be able to get a little closer to those beautiful windows looking over Notre Dame. We arrived to indifference, were seated at absolutely the furthest table from the view, where we sat for a half hour awaiting service. We were dressed to the nines, yet there were people in the dining room in prime spots dressed in jeans and dingy shirts. In the meantime, a very vocal fight opened up in the kitchen, with plates and pots being thrown, and while I don't recognize French cursing, there was surely plenty. No one acknowledged it or seemed to do anything about it. Finally the menu appeared with next-to-no bored commentary, and we picked a pretty expensive degustation menu. I asked politely if a wine pairing might be available for the multiple courses, and the server appeared incredulously that I would ask, walked away, and then five minutes later returned with the giant encyclopedia of the restaurant's wine list, and plopped it unceremoniously on the table. I returned the graciousness by finding a village white that I recognized (and was about a hundred bucks), so that probably pissed them off further. I cannot for the life of me understand what we did or said to offend the staff so badly, other than my speaking in American (my daughter, who had seven years of French classes behind her, tried valiently to save me). I regret that I never complained, for fear of an eruption, as we saw egregious, arrogant service all around us and I feared I'd be thrown out. The food was indifferent, nothing special or memorable, and the bill was as expensive as I expected it. It is undoubtedly a beautiful restaurant, filled with history (though dubious, as the restaurant proclaims it the city's oldest, but that doesn't square with historians), and I took perverse pride in showing my daughter how Paris REALLY treats Americans ... not all of the time, but much of the time. Claude Terrail must roll over in his grave. I apologize a little bit for this as I don't doubt that there are haves, and have-nots at this landmark restaurant. I'm just describing the experience of a have-not. So much for being a gracious guest, graciously informing management of a special occasion, and uncomplainingly doing some damage to the AmEx platinum card. Unless you're somebody special, they don't care. We'll see how long their one-star rating will hold up.

SURFAIT: Tourist-trap, overrated, pretentious and OVERpriced

1/5 by ๐Ÿ‘ป @Jane T on 10/28/2022

Dreadful experience the minute we set foot in this renowned establishment with the Maitre d' refusing to give us a table in the middle when the restaurant was pretty empty: he insisted on sitting us at the very back (with zero view yet the same extortionate prices!) on the basis that we had not booked several months ahead!! He was snooty and unhelpful. The food was nice but standard boring classical French, nothing to excite the pallet. The waiters were lovely but the atmosphere was zero except for some obsequious manager turning up to say Hi. "SURFAIT" is the word to describe this place, an expensive old-fashioned tourist-trap. Totally uncreative and unexciting food: the silver came out as pure theatre. None of the flair, ingenuity or sense of surprise of Marsan by Helene Darroze for example which is simply terrific.
