Had a business dinner here and it was a real gastronomic
Had a business dinner here and it was a real gastronomic experience. Menu was very heavy on seafood as of summer 2018. They offer four tasting menus we went for the two courses which was just enough food. I'd caution against the three course menu unless you are starving. We had plenty of amuse bouches to start including a mushroom emulsion served inside a hollowed out eggshell that was sawed off. with precision. Really neat. Scallops tuna tartare and fish followed. all expertly cooked/prepares with lots of fancy ingredients. Three courses of desert finished with macaroons. I deduct one star as they don't take AMEX sos I had to lay out cash and the server was a bit pretentious.

I can say 'perfect' but that would not suffice. If you love truffle as much as I do, go to this restaurant. It's a small restaurant but that gives it a nice sense of intimacy. I had a good view of the kitchen - what I noticed was it's only the waitress, the washer and the chef. That's all. But everything was smooth and what this guy is dishing out by himself was absolutely bliss. See my photos for the menu we chose and my fave dish of the night (although every meal was perfection and delicious), the grated truffle, Royal Heart cod, Chef's risotto and Parmesan broth. I could eat that over and over again - a wonderful blend of flavours and textures, beautifully presented. Make your reservation now and you will not be disappointed. Giving this one a big Foodie Amen
Be the first to ReplyI dunno, maybe I'm missing something here.
Don't get me wrong, the place presents like a high-end Michelin-starred eatery but then there is the food. I wanted to give this one star but the service was, admittedly, extraordinary. So, yes - it presents as high-end and the cost is somewhat less than what many 2-3 star Michelin restaurants would be but we go for the food and, while the food LOOKED like the real thing, the taste was a big swing and a bigger miss. First off, I want to say that I like truffles, with the caveat that it is a very powerful and distinct flavor, so it has to be used somewhat sparingly. That is not the mantra at this establishment. Every dish is so saturated in truffles that just the smell gave me a headache. Almost every dish has at least two (if not more) truffle components. So, it quickly goes from "yum," to "interesting," to "are they going to keep this gimmick up all night?" And then finally to, "blech." And I think that is the real tragedy of this restaurant. It is just a gimmick. I dunno if the chef has some sort of truffle OCD but someone should really get them on some meds. Because I think this could be an extraordinary restaurant if they just dialed it back a few (read: many) ticks. The quality and presentation is there, now we just need the taste to follow. Anyway, if you are crazy for truffles maybe you will like this place. To each their own. But I would advise to stay away.
Be the first to ReplyI cannot really add much to the review of Gregory C.
This place is excellent, of a very high quality and inventiveness. We all had the 68 EUR fixed menu which proved to be a bit too much to eat even. The wine was relatively nicely priced - certainly not too high. Service is done by the wife of the cook in a very professional and a bit stand-offish way. Our only complaint: we came at 7 PM while most customers came around 8 PM. After we had received our main courses, we had to wait until everyone else had gotten their main courses before we got our first pre-dessert. Everything else was impeccable.

This is a place that serves very reasonably priced food on par, or better, than what some entry ranged Michelin restaurants can provide. At €65, the five course menu, including a 'mise en bouch', was a bargain. We are talking high end standards, in the presentation, the sourcing of ingredients, the cooking techniques and flavors. Moreover, portions are in my mind far more generous than that of your traditional gastro establishments. In fact, when battling through the five course meal, we found it hard to get to the end of it. The restaurant is nice and cosy, not too big with space for around 15/20 and includes an open kitchen, bright clean colors and nicely set tables. Not too elegant or pompous, just right in fact for a good meal out without having to dress up unnecessarily. We started our festivities with aperitif to accompany the mise en bouche, followed by an excellent white from the Loire valley. Not too costly either. All of our starting dishes were excellent. The fish was particularly well done and the opening mise en bouche was nicely presented inside a sardine tin. The only negative was the unnecessary use of foie gras in a few of the dishes, be it as a foam, sauce or other, a little is better than too much in my opinion. We also particularly enjoyed the scallops with the many accompanying textures and flavors. The star of the show, to me, was the venison. The meat was splendid, the sauce devine, and once again they were more than generous with the portions. Despite the little luxury of the drinks, we still managed to keep the bill below €90 per person. It can seem a lot, but we took the most expensive menu (bar one that included truffle in each dish), a very good bottle of wine, aperitif and red by the glass for the meat. Overall, it still remained reasonable if you consider how other similar establishments compare. I have to recommend this place to anyone who would like to try or enjoy slightly more gastro food without having to fork out every last penny of savings.

We are sad that we did not get to eat here due to a mixup in time zones and therefore days. You will have to make a reservation well in advance as we did, however if you do it early in your trip you may have issues as we did. The Chef was nice, but had a full restaurant. Good sign! Hope you get a chance.
