Was advised this place was the spot. Our concierge raved. Anyway, in that this forum is here for honest reviews, I shall deposit mine.
Arrived and stood in short line. Was regaled with some jerk ahead of us yelling at the hostesses for not being admitted without reservation. Said he ate there for 15 years. Blah blah. Whatever. Not the restaurant’s fault at all, and actually made us think we found the right spot. Hostesses were lovely to us.
Walked out to a large tent on side of property. I make no comment about it other than to say it seemed like one of those wedding tents they spray out on the Vineyard. Proceeded to order/eat. Ordered the tomato “gazpacho” and what it was was minced tomatoes akin to a hearty salsa, which my wife can make (and better). Should have come with a bag of Tostitos on the side. Maybe a bucket of Natty Ices.
Followed with the duck (nothing else on the limited menu appealed to me). Was Never asked how I liked it cooked. Not once. Also it was served long after my wife and kids meals arrived. Have to say my wife’s lobster pappardelle dish was fine. And they went out of their way to make my kid a pappardelle and kid friendly steak and sublime mashed potatoes.
However, my duck was overcooked. Not bad, but overcooked. Highlight was my kid’s mashed potatoes and the wine (which I picked). About as unmemorable a place at this level as I’ve eaten at, in all honesty.
Not trying to be cruel and I get that restaurants are hurting, but this place seemed to be packed and admittedly this was my first time there, so maybe going there repeatedly helps. The price doesn’t bother me if it’s worth it. The island lacks meaningful competition in this regard overall, in my opinion.
