L'Express New York Reviews from The Last Year
Says open 24/7 all over their awning outside.
Closes at 2:30 when we walk in. Absolute liars
My friend and I walked into this French restaurant to try
My friend and I walked into this French restaurant to try some good cocktails on a Friday night. We tried Espresso Martini and Elderflower Martini and both were yum! We liked Espresso Martini more as the coffee flavor was very creamy. This is a nice spot to just catch up with friends on a weekend night. They were serving food until very late and it was crowded despite the odd hours!

Had reserved an outdoor table but when we arrived, we were told none were available. Inside seating was cramped, with tables inches apart. Food took forever to arrive and when it did, it was cold. Service was terrible. Inattentive server who didn't check on our table once. Horrible.
Steak Frites in Union Square
What a cool spot in Union Square. Made reservations for dinner on a Saturday night and were promptly sat. Service was friendly and we were un-rushed. Underrated wine list that has some value spots. Had a Rhone Syrah for $78 that had real depth (and value). Food tasted great, although some of the portions were small, especially the branzino and the dorodo special. Steak frites was cooked correctly, but had an inedible section. Fries were excellent. Steak tartar received raves. Deserts were also good. I really enjoyed the creme brulee, and others the sorbet (several flavor options), and the chocolate cake.
I went on a Friday night at 9 PM with a friend for dinner.
We got the escargot it came with a side of bread and butter. We both got a soup. I got the French onion and she got the clam chowder soup of the day. We both enjoyed it and found it really filling and we also shared rosemary fries, which were really good And finished it with sharing a slice of cheesecake that was a perfect portion for two people. The place was a little warm for me and quite loud but I was still able to have a conversation and it wasn't uncomfortable in jeans and a T-shirt. The entrées were a bit expensive. I thought of getting the burger or lamb burger, which were $24 and $28.
Excellent stop
We had a quick stop here for drinks and were impressed with the atmosphere and vibe of the place. Service was great and price decent
A friend and I ate lunch here on a rainy Sunday afternoon,
A friend and I ate lunch here on a rainy Sunday afternoon, around 3:30pm. The place was about 3/4 full, and we were sat at a comfy booth in the back immediately. Our server was pleasant and attentive, and everything started well. About 10 minutes after we sat down and were settling in to a good conversation, the table next to us, toward the center of the room, started taking what appeared to be marketing photos with a large dSLR camera with a flash. The flash was aggressively bright, going off repeatedly, and pointed right at us. My friend and I made a few remarks to the table, and the photographer who had been hired to shoot 5 yuppies tapping cocktail glasses over the center of the table apologized, but the fault really lies with restaurant management. They could have told us this would be happening and given us the option to sit somewhere else before settling in to that table (apparently the group had gotten permission). We also didn't sign any waivers to be in the background of the photos. Unfortunately having strobe lights flashing at us and then having to explain why that was unpleasant soured an otherwise delightful visit with an old friend. The offer of free desert didn't sweeten the bad taste. Do better.
This used to be one of my favorite places for casual French.
The food is actually very good and prices are reasonable. We came for new years and everything was great but even though the restaurant wasn't packed, service was extremely slow. Toward the end, our server started ignoring us to focus on a table of 7 people beside us and then at some point he was standing at the bar, watching tv. It was even more infuriating that they added a 20% tip automatically when the service was so poor. I don't mind when places add a tip automatically but to automatically add 20% is ridiculous
Amazing dishes and cocktails Ambiance of true of true
Amazing dishes and cocktails Ambiance of true of true French restaurant And service on a highest level Thank you guys we will come back for fantastic tartar
A nice spot a block from Gramercy Park
I lively place in a very nice neighborhood near Gramercy Park. Well worth a walk around the surrounding area if you have time. Food was good - I had the steak frites and the steak was a very nice sized portion and a pretty good value actually for $38. Service was solid and a good meal all around. It was maybe a little bit expensive for a lunch ($600 all in for 8 people with tax and tip) but a nice setting and quite comfortable.
I didn't eat here for a meal other than a warming squash
I didn't eat here for a meal other than a warming squash soup, which was delicious especially on a cold day. I came more for coffee and dessert - and the almond pear tart was divine here and complemented nicely with a mocha - and the mocha here is served in a small bowl, akin to the French grand cafe au lait style. This Belgic restaurant was a nice find and I wouldn't hesitate to come back for the mocha and the desserts. We also had a friendly waitress who did a great job catering to the diverse needs of my table.
Burger was good, service was efficient, price fair.
However lighting was rather bad and toilet a little smelly..
Absolutely horrific experience at L'Express today.
Ordered a burger medium and it was served raw (room temperature in the middle). Side salad was served with rancid greens that tasted sour and smelt like compost--see attached photo. Management put my burger patty back on the grill and served a mangled, 3/4 patty for $24. Really disappointing and would recommend avoiding at all costs.
It was a great experience!
When in NYC, there are thousands of restaurants to go to. We chose this one, near our hotel. We were very happy with our dinner. Attentive service and great food!! Highly Recommended!
Nice decor but very annoying music
This place certainly has some charm. The decor is done tastefully and has that special & elegant French flair. My colleague and I went in with the intention of splurging on a delicious French dinner. We started off with a couple of “French 75” cocktails and were salivating at the exquisite items on the menu but we quickly became very annoyed by the loud rock music that was blasting from the speakers… it’s so inappropriate, so out of place! We could barely hear ourselves speak. We mentioned it to our excellent waiter but he replied that it was unfortunately out of his control. We left without ordering dinner, very disappointed.
Food is not good anymore
This place used to be great. The salmon used to be fantastic and it used to come with wild rice. Not anymore. I ordered a steak frites and instead they brought a piece of beef that is a totally different cut with no taste. The fries were not good either. The salmon does not come with rice anymore. They must have changed chefs because the food used to be great but it’s now disappointing. Service and atmosphere are good though.
Unforgettable birthday dinner
Wonderful night, delicious food. Celebrated a birthday here and they couldn't have been better, topped off with the waiters singing. An Unforgettable evening.
