Wonderful spot
Such a wonderful spot for dinner. The meal was delicious. The food was creative and well presented. The wines were amazing too.
Birthday Brunch at Maison Boulud
We had a lovely birthday brunch for my hubby at this newly opened restaurant and are repeat customers . As always , the food was excellent and the service warm . Thanks to all the staff who made our dining experience special especially Ray who as usual was a ray of sunshine .
Beautiful restaurant
Nice place to dine at in Montreal. Very beautiful restaurant. Maison Boulud has delicious food and drinks. The meal was great from beginning to end.
Top quality
Top quality food. Can’t go wrong at Daniel Boulud restaurants. The food was very delicious and the wine was amazing. Would recommend.
Service above and beyond!
My husband and I visited after a concert for coffee and dessert. We arrived a bit too late and decided to sit at the bar. BUT - our amazing waiter Danny said - let me see what I can do about dessert - and he looked after us so beautifully. He bought us a lovely plate with the plumpest, moistest madeleines sprinkled with powdered sugar I have had in a long while with my tea and my husband’s drink. Thank you for making our Valentine’s evening so special! We will be back for a proper dinner very soon.
This kitchen needs improvement.
At Maison Boulud it is unfortunate that such elegance and superior service is downgraded by truly awful food. The entire experience at Maison Boulud should be one of elevated dining but we were sorely disappointed by the cuisine. Let us add that we are repeat customers and each time we return we hope the kitchen has improved. Sadly, it has not. Yes, the service is welcoming and professional, the hors d’oeuvres (appetizers) are satisfactory, the oysters, in fact, very good, the cocktails and wine appealing, but the main dishes, where such a restaurant should shine, are a disaster. One dining companion tried the Black Cod. It was a gelatinous, highly salted mess. Inedible. The other dishes were equally disappointing, including the lamb which required a microscope to find the meat. When one pays upward of $500 for two for dining the expectations are high. Maison Boulud did not deliver which explains why it was half-empty on a Saturday night. The chef/business director Mr Boulud should step up and step into his namesake kitchen.
Well worth a visit
I visited this restaurant to try the tastings menu cum wine pairing. With tips, at the time of writing, this translated into a roughly 450 CAD$ bill for one person. That's roughly in the ballpark of what you'd pay in Michelin 1* restaurants, so while not cheap, it's not extraordinarily expensive. Of the 7 or 8 courses that I had only one flopped, a very basic - near tasteless - pumpkin-based pasta dish. In all fairness, staff offered to replace it with something else, but I declined, because it wasn't badly executed, technically, there was nothing objectively wrong with it, except that it was, well, tasteless. All the other dishes were good, but not overly creative, all things considered. The bread selection was somewhat basic (three varieties), compared to other restaurants offering this kind of experience, but the bread itself was excellent. The wine pairings were mostly spot on (the cheap port at the end was a bit of a downer), but sadly portion sizes were somewhat uneven, they seemed to decline from about the middle of the menu toward the end (and no, I wasn't drunk). The sommelier was brilliantly knowledgeable and a delight to interact with, as is the case every other staff member in the restaurant who I interacted with. Their level of professionalism is extraordinary and definitely was a highlight of the visit. Just as an example, every staff member greeted me by my last name (I had booked on some on-line booking site, very much last minute, so it's not that I was a well-known hotel guest of some sort). That effort was very much appreciated. The restaurant itself, on a Friday night, wasn't jam packed, and it's also the case that they leave generous space between tables, so it never was too loud or felt too crammed. One can have legitimately different views about the interior. It's certainly not as classy as the hotel's champagne bar (they're located in the Ritz-Carlton Montreal). More like an upmarket version of a 1970s Marriott. Again, very subjective, but I thought, given the historic building they're in, more could have been made of the space. I wore a pair of corduroy pants and a sweater, which was sufficient to get let in, as it should be. There doesn't appear to be any overly arduous, stuffy dress code, thankfully. I think, all things considered, if you enjoy tastings menus, this restaurant is well worth a visit and it's correctly priced. It works both for a business dinner as well for a romantic night out.
Disappointing Birthday Dinner
Maison Boulud has long been known for its exquisite French cuisine and elegant atmosphere, and as a fan of fine dining, I was excited to celebrate my birthday there. I was extremely specific with my husband as to where I wanted to celebrate my dinner, and he managed to secure a reservation, which added to my anticipation. We had been to Maison Boulud many times before and had memorable experiences, therefore this was my choice for my birthday. The restaurant's ambiance was impeccable, with a warm and sophisticated atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable evening. The attentive service was certainly a highlight, and I appreciated the effort they put into making our celebration special. However, the highlight of any dining experience is undoubtedly the food, and this is where Maison Boulud fell short on my visit. I decided to try the seabass main course, which, unfortunately, turned out to be a major disappointment. The seabass dish had an overpowering fishy taste and aroma, which was quite off-putting. I had one mouthful and did not eat the rest of my meal. It lacked the delicate flavors and finesse that I had come to expect from a renowned establishment like Maison Boulud. The server was advised of the inferior quality of the meal. No Manager or Chef came to our table to enquire as to why my meal was returned. We paid the bill in full, even the meal I did not eat. Considering it was a special occasion, my expectations for the meal was quite high, and I must admit that I left the restaurant feeling disappointed by the subpar dish. It's disheartening when an otherwise well-regarded restaurant falls short on delivering a memorable culinary experience. Despite the disappointing seabass, I must commend Maison Boulud for its ambiance and service, which were truly exceptional. I hope that this feedback helps them improve the quality of their dishes to match the rest of the dining experience they offer.
Pleasant experience
Excellent food, very professional and warm service and elegant atmosphere The one thing missing is warm bread!
Disappointing !
When we arrived, the valet told us that the parking lot was full and that he could not take our car: By insisting, he would eventually comply by parking the vehicle in front of the restaurant! But finishing his shift at 11 p.m., he does not guarantee we will be given the keys when we leave (sic!). We waited 10 minutes before getting our table even though many were set and free and we had reserved. We arrive in the dining room, whose decoration is suitable but whose good maintenance leaves something to be desired, dead insects were present in the globe of the chandelier clearly visible from our place... The comfort of the seat is horrible, 2 pieces of wood being felt well throughout the meal and for all the guests, skinny or not so skinny… Our choice is the tasting menu which it will be impossible for us to have being 9:15 p.m. and this one served until 9 p.m. (of course we waited at least 15 minutes between the valet and the table being made available! ). The dishes arrive, good but nothing more. Well presented but quite bland. The service is pleasant and the table staff very charming. The bill is correct compared to what was ordered, in this type of restaurant. The collection of our vehicle was as epic as its drop-off, we waited 15 minutes before getting our keys which were not labeled… This evening was not what we expected and we all remained disappointed with this experience.
Dinner on Saturday night in Montreal
Beautiful garden setting at this restaurant, should have been an incredible meal and it was just average - we were so taken aback! Having eaten at Daniel Boulud's restaurants in NYC and Miami, we were expecting great things and the food was just very, very average. We were sad!
Fantastic Service and Experience
Dined with my wife. Fantastic food and staff. Met expectations in terms of drink list, food and service.
Extra ordinary food!
We ate here for two breakfasts and one supper. The breakfasts were fantastic, probably the best Smoked Salmon and Eggs Benedict in the city. For supper, the sommelier (Stephanie) was fantastic.
High Price - Low Performance
The list of shortcomings is sheer endless. Food: you end up hungry, Service: a shame, not worth spending money and time!
A great place in a great hotel. Well worth your time
We dined at Maison Boulud on a Saturday evening. We asked the day before for a reservation, and they were full even then, so we reserved two seats at the bar. This was great. The bar staff is really wonderful. Very friendly, accommodating, and efficient. The selection at the bar is complete, not even including the giant wine list of the greatest wines. Our meal was outstanding, and well worth the price. This is a fine restaurant.
