I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN A GOOGLE REVIEW BUT MY EXPERIENCE HAS
I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN A GOOGLE REVIEW BUT MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN SO ATROCIOUS I HAVE TO LET THE ENTIRE INTERNET KNOW. honestly i have a huge review and all in all i will never be returning to this place. i made a reservation TWO months ago and when my friend arrived to be seated (10 mins prior to our reservation time 7:50 vs 8pm) he was told that our reservation didn't exist. we waited about 20 minutes before we had to approach the owner that our reservation existed and was told that they would compensate us by creating a "space/table" for us by the front door until the back opened up (keep in mind, I TEXTED AND CONFIRMED A RESERVATION AT THE RIGHT TIME AND PLACE weeks before). after almost an hour of waiting in a cramped corner (past our reservation time) for a table, we were seated in another cramped corner with no regard except for a supposed "free jameson" shot. after nearly TWO HOURS of waiting for a table that we were meant for, we finally found a table in the back (please note, this table was achieved only because we asked the existing party if they were available because they were leaving). we were supposedly going to be compensated by "getting fucked up" because the owner didn't honor my text reservation. however my bill was ultimately $600 for 9 people, now this doesn't seem too bad, but the moment we started leaving the bar was when things went awry. there were multiple people at the bar harassing us because we got a table before them (something we well deserved because of our TWO MONTH ADVANCE RESERVATION). we were served supposedly completely shots but at the end of our night it seemed that the only things were discounted for were our jameson shots (that were fucking disgusting and we did NOT ask for). this place played us and i'm so upset we fell for it. please don't support this business, in all of new york city there are significantly better dive bars to go to. unfortunately we were tasked with going to this place on a friday night for birthday, and i would EASILY recommend any dive bar in NYC that is NOT fish market. Please do not go here and support the staff that is clearly racist and misogynistic. we unfortunately did not get the real image of fish market until tonight.

friendliest dive bar with great food! was a bit confused because the interior looks like a typical sports bar, tons of jerseys and football playing everywhere. but the food was mostly asian and tasted amazing. the sausage fried rice was one of the best fried rices i've had at a restaurant. the bartender also came around with shots to do together. it's definitely really loud and crowded but very lively. also hard to find, there's no door handle so you need to pry the door open from the top haha
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service and amazing food.
Highly recommend. A super social location. Great vibes.

the best home cooked meal you'll have I promise! The food was the delicious! it cant even be described, The actual bar is unassuming, and has a great feel to it. The owner was present and behind the bar working and talked with us as we ate and drank at the counter, Cant wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyHorrific customer service.
I am 24 years old and was kicked out of the bar for having a vertical ID. I told the bartender I could hand him every card in my wallet to prove that I was myself, but that wasn't good enough. Horrific.

Be the first to ReplyThe owner Jeff is abusive and violent.
We accidentally violated a completely arbitrary rule that he has for the bar and when he screamed in our faces about it we apologized and headed back to our table. Not satisfied by this he followed us to our table screaming and cussing us out. We were a group of young women and he was getting an inch from our faces screaming that we were "f*cking b*tches" AFTER we apologized and were just trying to sit back with our friends. He was clearly completely wasted and has a tendency towards violence, he continued to scream at us for being "b*tches" and then telling us to "CALM DOWN" even though everyone but him was maintaining a shocking amount of cool in this situation. Soon his screams turned to "get the f*ck out of my bar," insisting that "I'm the f*cking owner here and I can do what I want so you get the f*ck out." Several of my friends said they feared for their physical safety and thought he was preparing to hit them at points during this altercation. Clearly he is on a power trip because he feels so utterly rejected and miserable with his place in life, you'd almost pity this dejected little man if he did not resort so easily to verbal abuse and violence. We were regulars of this bar in the past as the other bartender has always created a welcoming environment but will never be returning now. Save yourself the fear and verbal abuse and DO NOT SUPPORT this unbelievably disrepresctful, miserable owner.

If you can find your way into this spot, it's so warm and welcoming. Everyone seems to know everyone and the hospitality couldn't have been better. It's a no frills spot where the drinks are strong the music is at a volume where you can still talk to your friends without having to yell and there's TVs if you want to watch a game. Will definitely be back to try the food next time.

For a table of 6 we ordered 1 app and 5 entrees. All the food was absolutely delicious. The owners were so helpful while we were ordering, gave some great recommendations on their personal favorites. We were even lucky enough to meet THE MAMA! She happened to be sitting in the table next to ours and we had a quick lovely chat. Only notable downside - the portions are quite small.

Food (5/5): Wow the food is absolutely amazing and delicious. Truly a hole in the wall type of place with really great dishes and food. I ordered the beef rendang, dumplings, and Mama's curried chicken while some friends ordered other dishes. The rendang was absolutely delicious with amazing sauce and super tender meat. Some of the best I've had. Service (3/5): While some of the staff had great energy, don't expect upscale type service here. They served food in to go containers, paper plates, and disposable plastic cutlery. Additionally, some of the food came fast but some of my friends had to wait a while for their fried chicken. Also, be aware there is a 3% surcharge for credit card. We accidentally paid with card and when asked if we can change to cash after finding out about the charge, they seemed to not want to try to figure it out so we left if as-is. One thing I appreciated was they worked to fit our group of 8 and moved us to a more spacious table when it was available. Overall, not the best service but there is some charming aspects. Ambiance (4/5): We came as a large group of 8 after an event at Tin Building and I picked this spot because it was close and had great Yelp ratings. I was really confused at first looking at the restaurant from the outside because it seemed shady and not the usual Asian restaurant look. The door also had a broken door handle so it was hard to open. When we finally figured out how to open the door, it seemed like an American dive bar rather than a Malaysian restaurant. So we ended up walking out, double checking if it's the right place and thinking if we should go elsewhere. But one of the staff who was working opened the door again and someone from the staff said don't be scared, just come in. So we decided to go for it since there was available seating. The whole place seemed to be doing lively karaoke and drinking and we were the ones there mostly for the food. It was a super interesting and unique vibe that I hadn't seen before. Feels like if we were in Malaysia and the Malaysians were trying to make an American Dive / Sports bar restaurant. Tons of flags everywhere and sports playing on many TV's.

. you will NOT regret it. Cheers. Highly recommend the shrimp dumplings. I left thinking "wow, I want to go back, this is, NYC." It was so good. Excellent dive vibe with exceptional service.

I love this place, but I am reluctant to share why, lest I blow up my spot. I'm so glad it has survived the pandemic thus far, as this is a special slide of New York City's culture and history, and I hope we can hold on to it for a long, long time.

This place is NEW YORK CITY! I don't want a long winded review. Great vibe, great dive, great service, great food. I will be back again next time in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyThe best restaurant in NYC.
The best Malaysian restaurant, & the best dive bar. It's just the best, ok? Only complaint - long walk from the train & no parking nearby. Still - I don't care & I come here anyway. This place = happiness.
Be the first to ReplyBeen seeing this place on Yelp for a very long time .
So we decided to give it a try.We had a dinner on a Thursday night for indoor dining.Food were delicious and people are very friendly.I take away one star for serving with disposable plastic utensils, plates and bowls for indoor dining.Too much plastic waste . if they can reserve the disposable utensils , bowls and plates for takeout only .That would be great!!
Be the first to ReplyBest! Bar! In! NYC!!!This place is a watering hole.
It's disgusting and it's magical - a true 0 frills dive bar. Jeff is the man and pours up Jameson shots to get everyone feeling good. The food is surprisingly delicious. Could not recommend this hidden gem more

Honestly feel like this place hasn't gotten enough reviews! A very nice dive bar serving just the best Malaysian food. The mama's chicken curry blew our minds. We loved it so much we had to get some to go. We also got the drunken fish soup and the scallion pancakes which were really good. We were here on a Sunday afternoon during the NFL games and the Jameson shots kept flowing. A truly hidden gem, a must visit if you're in the area!

Had the yummy noodles, drunken fish soup, chicken curry, and crispy fried rice. All delicious and flavorful. My favorite is the drunken fish soup. Hits the spot!

Came here with a few friends for dinner because a few elite Yelpers that I met highly recommended this place. However, it completely disappointed once I got here. We opted to dine outside and their set up was just like a bunch of pile wood put together. Their seats were uncomfortable while their tables were sticky with grim. I asked if they can turn on the hanging lights and only two bulb lite up. Once I saw that I knew ambiance was o the window and the guy that turn it on didn't seem to care much either. As for food, we ordered a slew of dishes and I can't stay it was spectacular. The only thing that stood out among the rest was their fried rice. That was pretty good. Everything else was okay. What worsen the experience is how they gave us paper plates. The type of paper plates that pizzeria would give you when you hand you a slice. I was completely gross out as the sauce and grease from our dishes would just go through the paper dishes and make everything unsanitary. As for the dishes it was all served in take out containers which just ruin the experience overall. Overall I can't say my experience here at the Fish Market was memorable. If anything it left a bad taste. Not only did my friends and I felt felt like we were doing takeout since we were all eating out of containers, paper plates and cheap plastic forks but the grim and dirty from the shack house we sat in left everything undesirable.
Be the first to ReplyThe dumplings are legit.
Staff is fantastic. If I come back to NYC, I'll be back here. Don't forget the shots of Jameson!
