Disappointing special occasion
My husband and I booked an early dinner at Mariels as a special treat for our anniversary. We had been there before for brunch and had been very impressed with the food, restaurant decor, and service. Not so last Saturday night, where we were made to wait for 25 minutes while they attempted to end an afternoon event. When we were finally seated the dining room had not been set up properly or cleaned. It was very loud and people were still milling around after the previous event. We had someone literally sweeting a broom around our feet as we sat and attempted to enjoy our evening. The food was generally good, but small and rather overpriced, and the server at one point tried to remove my husband's plate before he had finished eating. Overall not the best dining experience or the best anniversary meal weโve ever had!

Fabulous location, modern and sophisticated inside. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. The food was superb. We started with the the sharing fondue, piping hot and so tasty with lots of fresh veg, meats, and bread to dip The small plates were excellent, my favourite was the crispy lamb ribs. Our daughter in law whose birthday it was had the hot chocolate for dessert! Amazingly prepared and tasted delicious! Will definitely return
Be the first to ReplyCuisine did not match the design
We visited Mariel for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant is beautiful with a very cool design and super high ceilings. The apps of cheese puffs, empanadas and key lime calamari were great, better than the entrees. The table ordered the Cubano, blackened fish sandwich, rice bowl and brisket burger. All were OK, sandwiches served with homemade potato chips. Service started strong but got real slow. Would think twice about returning.

What wonderful dishes! We thoroughly enjoyed everything we tasted. Itโs definitely a place for a splurge special dinner, but itโs so worth it. (The cocktail list is also truly impressive and the fruit is fresh, and they will make them alcohol free. I donโt think anyone could be disappointed here) Also shoutout to our server, Randy, who was super attentive and personable. Added to that, we got the wrong dessert served to us, but without skipping a beat, he gave it to us on the house and we still got the correct dessert we ordered after. Extra special treat!

Amazing experience! The place gives you that club vibe. I was extremely surprised. The service was great. And let's talk about food and drinks. The drinks were great. My favorite was the Vaca Fritta OMG!!!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolute must try tapas in a boring section of city, glad its here
What a blast from the past this place was since I was literally walking into the office building I previously had worked at back in 2001/2002 and now its transformed into this? This place took over the left half of 10 Post Office Square office building to turn the place into a Cuban decked out fantasy. I mean the inside of this place will blow you away. One thing, you must, must make a reservation for this place. I mean we were here on a Tuesday and the place was packed to the brim. When you walk into this place, the decor and the bar, and the walls will blow you away, floor to ceiling Havana decor, walls, art, lights, absolutely impressive. The menu here is tapas and a collection of Cuban cocktails complete with various Mojitos and other concoctions. The food is delicious and you have to order at least 6-8 dishes for your party to share, lots of small bites, creative cheese baked dishes, pizza, chicken cubes which were interesting, chips, guacamole and other Cuban delicacies. Service is fast, friendly and prompt and completed the meal. What a treat this place is and nice refreshing spot for this boring downtown section.
Be the first to ReplyNice place to celebrate with friends
We were there on Patriot's Day Monday to celebrate a couple of Boston Marathon finishers and Mariel did well for us. The restaurant is one of the prettier places I've been recently The server was prompt, helpful and friendly and food came out of the kitchen at a good pace. Cocktails are a big deal here and ours were good but we liked the food better. We ordered small plates and shared them and I'd highly recommend that route. Cuisine is more of a fusion of Carribean and Mediterranean. One of our group ate only fish and vegetarian and there was plenty to build from on that. It's a fun place. I'd go back!
Be the first to ReplyI prefer Dinner over Brunch
I've visited Mariel for both dinner and brunch and I prefer the dinner options. Brunch menu is very limited and not many substitutes. However, food is delicious and atmosphere is breezy, fun and beautiful. Note, they don't have much options for coffee, so very strond espresson it is.

Worst experience of my entire stay in Boston. A hyped-up place, with rude and incompetent staff. I made a reservation two weeks in advance. We arrived on time, the table was not ready and we were asked to wait a few minutes. That's ok, but it's strange that a table is not prepared in an empty restaurant on a Sunday night. We were seated at the high table at the entrance when asked to move us to a central dining table in the main room we were told there were no seats. After an hour of our stay in the restaurant, in the main hall were enough available tables. I don't understand why we couldn't be seated there. The service is just awful. Rude waitress Laura C, with a look on her face like we owed her one. Before we finished our meal she brought the check without asking if we wanted a split and if we wanted to order another cocktail. When asked to split the check, she said she couldn't because she couldn't remember who ordered what, and we didn't ask. Isn't it obvious? Or in a decent place is not acceptable to ask how we like to pay! I'm shocked. The check was divided for us. It was a matter of principle. Because everyone is obliged to do their job well. If you don't like it - change it, but don't broadcast your negativity and incompetence to me. I did not leave a tip, the girl did not earn it. In general, the place is not worth your attention. I highly do not recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyMariel visit October 2022
Feedback from visit on October 2022: Ambiance: fantastic Reservation and seating: I made the reservation a month ahead and requested a table with a nice ambiance (celebrating my husbands milestone birthday). So imagine my surprise when we were seated at one of the loudest corner (opposite to waiter station and right next to the bathroom with long line of people hovering). I understand the restaurant being busy - however, that was the reason for request ahead of time. I could see how we could have been accommodated in the main dining (there are tables for 8 there as I noticed) Service: Server was great. However, the fact that I had to get her attention to place order or even ask for additional service was not my cup of tea- I understand the challenges of service industry since pandemic however, expected much smoother service for a establishment like Mariel Food: we enjoyed the food. Explanation of what was placed in front of us would have been helpful (goes back to service) Drinks: the first round of mojito, hardly any alcohol in it. Even though we were told 2.5 oz of liqueur in them, trust me when I say, we know what we are talking about when it comes to cocktails. Overall - with so many fine dining around Boston, and us being regular patron to them, I would say - Mariel can do much better with some improvement.
Be the first to ReplyIt`s not Cuban Cuisine. Not worth it.
Food is ok. It does not really present cuban cuisine. Shots contain more sugar than alcohol. The server told us that we can use table only for 1hr and 30 mins and rushed us to order all food at once. We have not been informed that the table can be used for very limited time. After such announcement, i wanted to leave right away. So, we have not even tried dessert.
Be the first to ReplySolid drink selection
Beautiful historic interior from former bank, minor exception that some decorations just tried to hard w let patrons know, this is a Cuban themed bar (less is more IMO). Mostly after work crowd from financial district. Drinks well made & nice selection of cocktails, Pineapple daiquiri so good! Can't wait to come back try more selections & appz/meal.
Be the first to ReplySuch a Great Visit! 5 Stars
My group was there for early evening cocktails and I'm so glad we chose Mariel. We had friends in from Manhattan, so you know I had to take them somewhere that would compete with anything they were going to in NYC. And Mariel does. The ambiance is chic, but it's not over the top. We still were able to have casual cocktails and have fun. Our server was great as well. Cocktails came out in a reasonable amount of time and as soon as she realized we were there for just cocktails, she didn't bother us. I WISH they would promote or even list the fancy cocktails on the menu. And when I say "fancy" there was this "tree" thing that came out with 6 glasses of wine hanging off the limbs. It was one of those "wooo" moments when they place it on the table. And the table then ordered this pitcher that had flames coming off the top. From what the server told us, you can get many of the cocktails as a "group size." That flaming one was a pitcher of mojito. We definitely would have ordered it if we knew that it was there. Parking at that time (5:30-ish) was not an issue. Plenty of on street parking right out front. Just check the are and the times...some were tow away zones. I cannot wait to go back for the food!

I had a delicious Don Habana guava mojito to start. We had a lovely plaintain gnocchi that looked like scallops. We had a crab sarepe that was tremendous. We enjoyed an amazing avocado dip with plantain chips. We devoured the luscious cheese curls. We feasted on a chicken pizza with pineapple. We had an amazing chocolate cake dessert. Our server Sara was terrific. Food was to die for; drinks were outstanding; service was great and the atmosphere was chic and cool. Can't say enough great things about this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic, authentic atmosphere.
Tough to get a table, but worth the effort. Unique dรฉcor and delicious food. We went downstairs and danced afterward - super fun, great energy.
