Mariscos 1133 Washington Reviews from The Last Year

Food was tasty and venue provided a great outdoor area for groups, but the poor service really killed the vibe. A server spilled a drink on my friend and didn't say sorry or even acknowledge it, and other servers ignored my request twice for clean utensils and an empty glass. With so many great places to eat in the DMV with much better service, I won't be coming back here.
Latin seafood and a fun vibe.
Portions are plentiful and never disappoint. Review of some of the things we've had: Crispy fish tacos -- SO good. Queso fundido -- insanely rich, almost too much, but I love that it has huitlacoche. Birria tacos -- also very rich; you will fill up quickly. Salmon poblano -- perfectly cooked; the whole dish was terrific. Shrimp alambre -- huge portion, excellent grilled shrimp, so tasty. Puerto Vallarta salad -- a delicious entree for something on the lighter side -- great combo of ingredients but served with too much dressing. Paloma (cocktail) -- YES. The wait staff is so attentive, they actually come by the table too often and it gets annoying, but overall this place is a real winner.

Been here twice now and can't believe we haven't written a review! Anyway, was introduced to this place by a friend who was raving about the birria tacos. And we must say, these are delicious! We know a thing a two about birria tacos and these really do rival the ones found in our hometown which is very surprising. This place is great happy hour or to start off your night as you go explore the town. During happy hour, you get two birria tacos while the full priced menu will get you three. We also got the mariscos duo a la diabla. This dish includes grilled octopus, grilled scallops, rice and rapini. Though this dish is good, we prefer our octopus to be a bit more charred but that doesn't mean the dish isn't tasty. In this case, we probably could have just gotten more tacos! Definitely a hidden gem thay would recommend to anyone who is out in the area. It has already proven to be a place that we'll always visit when we come out to DC.
Hidden gem with reasonable prices
This Latin-american restaurant is truly an hidden gem in Washington DC. The food has amazing flavours and is very reasonably priced. We were a group of 4 people We got the crab guacamole and the spicy ceviche for starters. The spicy ceviche can be too spicy for people who don't tolerate well spicy food, but I think the spicy was just on point. The crab guacamole was also very good. Both of the starters came with black nachos For the main dish we got the shrimp quesadilla and the crispy fish tacos. The quesadilla is just incredible. I truly recommend it. The crispy fish tacos were also very nice, but I preferred the quesadilla We also got a Margherita and a Pisco Sour, which were not the best cocktails in the world but were a nice touch to the food The gratuity is already included and in tot we paid +-130$ for 4 people
What a horrible experience.
Waitress took our order and then never put the order in. Then there was a huge argument between the waitresses as to who put the order in. I will never come here again. Then when I asked how long it would take if they still put out order in she said we were 3rd in the queue. I then requested to speak to the manager and she said he was busy and couldn't come over. He finally came over 15 mins later. The best he did was comp us a round of drinks off of our bill but never really made things right. Dude couldn't even look me in the eye. I truly hope no one has an experience like mine.
Saw a description on the website and wanted to try it.
Got the ceviche vuelve a la vida as an appetizer. It was a meal in itself and so amazing. The citrus was perfect along with the spices. Also ordered the parrillada for 2 and ended up taking it to go. Margaritas were also good. Service was amazing and attentive. Can't say enough great things about this place.
Great food and great atmosphere! Churros were amazing!
Great food and great atmosphere! Churros were amazing! Plates were a little dirty but not too big a deal.
We had an 8 o'clock reservation.
No one greeted us until about 8:15. We waited until 8:30 for our first round of drinks (beer and wine, not cocktails). We didn't get our entrees until after 9. We were seated upstairs, where we had never sat before, despite several tables being available in the downstairs dining room. Initially, we were seated in a booth right under a speaker playing music so loud that we couldn't even have a conversation. We asked to move to another booth and we were seated in a windowless part of the room. The room was painted black, so we felt like we were in a hole. Additionally, there was only one server working the upstairs dining room who was also bussing tables. She bussed several tables where the patrons had gotten up and left before coming to greet us, which was frustrating. The dining room was not very busy while we were there. Finally, I went to use the restroom toward the end of the meal. They are single use, gender neutral restrooms. One of the restrooms was locked, so I knocked and pushed open the ajar door next to it, where a man was urinating. He had not shut the door all the way, let alone did he bother locking it. He laughed -- I was disgusted. Since the service was so slow upstairs, we finished our last round of drinks at the bar downstairs, where the creep I was exposed to was sitting at a table that had been available when we arrived at the restaurant at 8. He kept turning around and looking at me, which was incredibly disturbing and uncomfortable. I suppose the silver lining here is that he was a patron and not an employee of the restaurant. On top of everything, there was a 20 percent service fee. I generally don't have a problem with this, but including an automatic tip for a terrible experience is unfair. While we love the food at Mariscos, we won't be going back.
Small place, very casual and a bit loud.
You can see the kitchen staff. But every bite was delicious and waitstaff was very attentive and friendly. We had birria tacos, octopus and scallops. Everything was very good.
I tried the brunch which served generous portion sizes.
Note you can not order from the standard lunch menu during brunch. The birrira omlette was stuffed with meat and served it's purpose. The churros and taquitos were crisp and tasty. There were a few miscommunications with the servers but overall a good experience. There aren't many venues in DC that provide good value portions. Our intention was to try seafood items (their specialty) but the lunch menu wasn't available.

This is a true hidden gem in NW! Cute ambience with great music and a small, but mighty staff! The food is spectacular. The ceviche is fresh, perfectly portioned and seasoned to perfection. It took me back to Mexico!!!! The cocktails are plentiful and whimsical and I had an overall great time! The grilled sugar cane shrimp with the pineapple bbq butter is outstanding! The flautos, chilis rellenos , and birria tacos were stupid delish! Anything you order will suite your whole fancy! Try them today .
Can't wait to eat here again
This place blew us away. We will be back the next time we're staying the night in DC. I do not like the automatic 20% gratuity added for a party of two but we at least did have friendly, good service. We had a seafood brunch that was A+. I suggest making a reservation just like we did even though the place seemed to have plenty of tables open when we arrived you would hate to miss the chance to have their ceviche, seafood omelet, or seafood eggs Benedict. I'm glad we discovered this place.
