Marta New York Reviews from The Last Year
So Pretentious, So Sorely Disappointed...
I made a reservation to take my 20 year old, freshly home from college daughter for a special welcome home meal at Marta. We were both very much looking forward to a lovely evening out but instead were greeted by a snobby, unwelcoming hostess upon arrival who gave us a pretentious once-over as we entered in from the rain. Strike One. Once we were seated at lovely corner table for two, my daughter left to use the restroom and returned with a sour expression on her face saying she was glared at by the kitchen and serving staff as she attempted to make her way to the restroom (which she never did, as she felt so uncomfortable). Strike Two. When the haughty hostess returned to take our drink order, I inquired about the NA menu; she curtly stated, "the ingredients are listed on the menu." No assistance, no offer to directly answer my question. Strike Three. To be clear, it was a 5:30pm reservation and the restaurant was not busy. Never have I felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. Perhaps we were not their desired demographic. My daughter and I gathered our purses and left, never to return. Of course I had read all the wonderful reviews and went on a personal recommendation. We were sorely, sorely disappointed.
So happy I was able to make it here before it closes on
So happy I was able to make it here before it closes on Friday. Going to miss you Marta!
Located in the Redbury Hotel and one of Danny Meyer's Union
Located in the Redbury Hotel and one of Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group's restaurants, Marta is definitely worth a visit. I have been eating here often for dinner since it opened nine years ago. As I had not been here for Restaurant Week, I decided to have lunch here last week. There was no special menu for this event. A 2 course prix fixe lunch was $30. One could choose from the main menu of an appetizer, salad or vegetable and then a sandwich or pizza. I chose the Suppli Al Salumi which were two risotto croquettes. These were filling and I could manage only one and a half. Pizzas are excellent here and my order for a Margherita pizza was a good choice. When it came, I spent some time admiring it before I had my first bite. Crusts here are wafer thin almost like a cracker and are oh so delicious! The tomato sauce and mozzarella with basil was flavorful. I was able to take two slices home for another meal. I drank iced water with my lunch. Choosing a dessert was extra and while the offerings were tempting they were also rather expensive. Service here was friendly and professional. Last week news about Marta closing on August 25th was announced as the Redbury Hotel which has two restaurants owned by Danny Meyer - Marta and Maialino - is now home to migrants. I saw several on my visit as the restroom is in the hotel and quite a distance. If a mouthwatering Roman style pizza is calling then have a meal here next week!
The BEST PIZZA I ever had.
I want to go back to New York just for Marta Pizza. The atmosphere is lovely. It's in a nice and cozy hotel/building. Our waitress was on point. Drinks were great too.
Margherita Pizza
Two courses for Summer Restaurant Week and my choice was an appetizer of Suppli Al Salumi of risotto croquettes and Margherita Pizza. The suppli was filling and the pizza was delicious as always. Service was friendly and efficient. Over the decades I ate here several times. Today news came out that Marta is closing late August. I am returning next week for another lunch and to bid adieu to a fine restaurant.
Lively family joint.
Right from the beginning you know you are in a good place. There is a very lively vibe. You get helped right away and the service is really friendly. They have a big and diverse menu. The food is really good and (for New York standards) not pricey. It is wise to book ahead otherwise you might have to wait a few minutes before a table is available.
We came for an early dinner during RW and Pizza Hour so it
We came for an early dinner during RW and Pizza Hour so it was the best of both worlds. The RW offer is a definitely a good one: you get an appetizer or salad or side, entree, and dessert for $45. My reco isto go before 6 so you get the $13 Strachiatella or $10 Margherita pies, and then opt for one of the RW combinations. We tried the pork chop (+$20 upcharge but this easily feeds 2-3) and the sliced hangar steak. Both were excellent BUT it takes about 45 min - 1 hour for them to come out (maybe we came on an "off" day?) so grab a pizza or 2 to stave off hunger pains while you wait. Still solid!
Went during restaurant week.
The food was good but the service was a bit slow. Chicken meatballs and steak were very tasty. The atmosphere felt a bit cramped as we were seated on the balcony floor upstairs. Felt as if there was no AC at all when we were there. The bathroom is also on the other side of the building so it was a bit inconvenient.
Fabulous food and great atmosphere
We stumbled across this restaurant while touring New York. They accommodated 2 adults and 2 children no problem even though it was busy. We tried the steak and the pizzas and everything was delicious. Staff were attentive, the decor and ambience was lovely. Excellent experience.
Marta has always been a go-to for pizza and other great
Marta has always been a go-to for pizza and other great food for my partner and me for a long time. Recently, we brought friends there to join us. The food is excellent, although the interesting grilled Caesar salad was replaced with a boring, regular version of the same. What was distressing in our case was the substandard service. Generally, it was ok throughout the meal, but then I asked for the check, which was delivered. Then the server completely disappeared. I have no idea what happened to her. We waited for 15 minutes. Finally, I got up and paid at the Maitre D's station. That shouldn't happen at any restaurant, let alone here. I've noticed service slippage here and other Danny Meyer venues. Not good.
Great spot for dinner with friends
Met friends here for dinner while visiting NYC. Reservations essential, but was possible to make one just a couple of days in advance. Cool spot in a hip hotel. Tall ceilings in the dining room; casual atmosphere, but with some elegance. Loved the buzz, but it's a little too loud; it was sometimes hard to hear my friends during our conversation due to the level of noise. Same for the server! Server was helpful and attentive, with a nice sense of humor. Applying menu: a handful of appetizers, three nice salads, some entrees, and 8-10 pizzas, about 6 slices each, with elevated but classic Italian ingredients. Food was delicious: a fresh arugula salad, a solidly-made Margherita pizza, a really good pizza with Italian meats that had subtle spice, and a really good mushroom pizza with real earthiness. Great cocktails, too. A nice spot for an easy, casual dinner in an elevated atmosphere with friends. Open late, too!
Casual, upscale hotel restaurant vibes.
Great location in flat iron (esque) they have a wonderful weekend HH with $10 espresso martinis and $10-12 pizzas. Delicious and great ambiance . Will be returning

Went for pizza happy hour, so good! Pizzas are $10 and up, if you stick with only that what a deal! Of course my family couldn't, ended up pricey after additions. Service was just ok.
The happy hour drinks were really good, the Caesar salad

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
