Amazing soup dumplings
We went here for soup dumplings and were not disappointed. They were so delicious! We got regular and crab flavor. The place was clean and service was efficient.

First of all, I never provide this kind of review to avoid doing anyone any harm. But today, I feel compelled as this is the only way progress can be made. Yesterday, I went with my lighter skinned middle-eastern wife to get dumplings from this restaurant. My wife made the order as I stood next to her. It was a pickup and my wife decided to head home to be with the children. So I waited outside for the food. After 10 minutes or so, I went in to check and spoke with the woman who took the order and she said I need to wait a little. She did check that I knew what the order was and I told her that we ordered 3 orders of dumplings and one noodles. A minute later, someone brought the food to me and I verified the order with them again. I took the order and started to head home. As I was walking down Austin street, I heard noises behind me and the sound of someone running and a man shouting (a bystander). Lo and behold, the same woman was in hot pursuit of the black man who made away with the order. That would be me, of course. In amazement, but not in shock, I stopped and looked at her for cues of what may be happening. I had an inkling anyway. With a frown on her face and a militant tone, she asked me the same exact question for the third time. I found myself repeating the order again:โ3 orders of dumplings and one noodlesโ. But this time she did not seem to believe me and continued to stand there, still assuming the militant posture (unaffected by her 100 meter sprint). Luckily, my wife had slipped the receipt in my pocket before leaving and I showed it to her. The woman, unapologetic and seemingly disappointed, simply turned back muttering indiscernible words. For a minute or two, I stood there thinking to myself:โ What in the appearance of a middle aged reasonably well dressed, a bit overweight, slow walking, grey-haired IT manager who is sporting thick glasses and is soft spoken that gives the impression that he is a raging dumplingsโ thief? โ. I wonder if it is the color of my skin??!!

Memories of Shanghai just moved to their new location with wider space and more seats. The new decor looks much cleaner, brighter and cozier than the old one.
Customers need to place their orders online via scanning the QR code. The wait was pretty bad about 40 minutes for a 5-items order and the system was really unstable that the owner couldnโt find our order due to the lack of information on the printed receipt.
We had Shanghai Sticky Rice ShaoMai, Shrimp Dumpling, Pan Fried Pork Bun, Scallion Pancake with Beef and Pork Ribs /w Sweet & Sour Sauce to share with 3 people. The food was pretty delicious with decent portion. However, itโs overall too greasy especially for the pork bun.
Itโs still a perfect place when we are eager for dim sum or Shanghai cuisine. Congrats to their moving and we will continue to support them once in a while.
Really Nice place for lunch (or take out)
Whenever we go to Forest Hills, we just got to go here for its soup and dim sum! The Hot and Sour soup is freshly made (and on the spicy side). Vegetable Potsticker (#15) and Steamed Chicken (#14) Dumpling are so good. Not much else you can say except it is definitely worth a try.
Getting there: It is on Austin St. but more toward flushing (near the police station). You can miss it if you are not looking for the sign; it is tucked inside an alleyway (with tables) and through the door to the left watching your step to do down into a small shop. You can watch them prepare the dumplings behind the counter although the kitchen is to the side and hidden.
The receipt is for "Dian Dim Sum" so no help there.
Soup Dumplings In the Heart of Forest Hills
We normally travel to Flushing and search for parking on our quest for authentic soup dumplings. We were thrilled, filled with anticipation when we read positive reviews of a soup dumpling place close by to home that also had ample parking.
This place is quaint, well teeny and quaint. Located off the beaten path down Austin Street at the end of an alleyway. Inside this cozy Asian inspired space was seating for eleven and two tables outside that will seat an additional eight diners. So, one may take out or eat in. Service was efficient and friendly. Prices were reasonable for Forest Hills. The space was extremely clean.
OK now for the soup dumplings: Served on authentic bamboo steamers, steaming hot of course. The shrimp dumplings weโre scrumptious the dumpling shell was thin translucent filled with sweet savory shrimp with perfect umami. What impressed me firstly about the soup dumplings was that they did not break when lifted from the steamer. Like my shrimp dumpling the outer shell was thin and slightly translucent filled with perfectly seasoned meat and soup broth with that umami flavor I crave.
Great food
I ordered takeout on Yelp: scallion pancake with beef, Shanghai sticky rice shumai, pork wonton in chili sauce. The food was ready when I arrived 5-10 minutes early.
The food was great. Leaning toward being heavily seasoned.
The menu's harder to understand than most, but expect $15-20 per person for dinner.
The restaurant is located in an alley, but it's not too hard to find if you look for the banner on Austin St.
A tiny gem
This tiny, cramped restaurant has only 11 seats, three at a bar. The menu is small and features such treats as soup dumplings and scallion pancakes. We had the steamed soup dumplings with crab meat ($7.75, excellent), scallion pancake ($3.75, delicious) and Shanghai spring roll ($4.25, ok but not great). This is not a place for socializing or long conversations. It was pretty busy even at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. The food, not the atmosphere, is the attraction.
