Absolutely amazing food at this restaurant.
We had the bamboo and pork belly soup, Shanghai mixed vegetables and the pork and crabmeat soup dumplings. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyI really wanted to like this place but it was not too be .
The shrimp dumpling (hargou) were I would say the worst I have had flavorless in a very thick wrapping not even close to other places where I get them . Soup dumplings (xao long bao) were ok some were dry others had soup inside but they also not up to three standards of other places here in NYC . Finally service was cold and unfriendly and the place was brightly lit and somewhat uncomfortable . Wish I would have liked it better , I guess i will still have to travel to Flushing or into the city for good soup dumpling or hargao

Wow this place is good!!! The dong po pork was delicious and perfectly cooked. Pork belly super soft and melty. The lions head meatball was great super soft texture. The best dish was the shredded pork in garlic sauce. Delicious and saucy! I wasn't a fan of the kaofu it was hard and kinda dry. Overall really great authentic shanghainese food will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyClean, booth seating and great for groups.
Their crab pork soup dumplings are so juicy and the broth is clean and flavorful. I recommend the crab pork soup dumplings here. It's a great spot where your craving soup dumplings and you don't want to go to a crowded area such as Flushing or in the city. Dim sum is also available in their menu but it's limited. Their menu does have a lot to choose from. They have a variety of soups, noodles and appetizers. The food is made fresh since the tarp puff was still warm and savory when it was placed on my table. Friendly service and they take credit cards.
Be the first to ReplyA hidden gem in the Forest Hills area.
If you are looking for authentic Chinese food this is a place to go to. Great restaurant to go with your family or with a small group of people. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The food came out super quick about 10 minutes right after we ordered. Everything was very tasty, fresh and super flavorful. Definitely get the soup dumplings, the filling is so juicy and delicious!

I live in those weird parts of Queens where they don't sell authentic Asian food like how I feel you can get from areas such as Flushing ,Main Street, etc. so sometimes my cravings take over and I wanted some authentic food. I found this place on Uber eats and decided to order a few plates, we had the rice shumai, shredded pork in garlic sauce, Chinese broccoli, fried rice, Shanghai soup dumplings, and beef braised soup. All the food had so much flavors really was delicious. The rice shumai was probably my least favorite and my son said that the beef braised soup was really greasy. Overall, I thought the food was very tasty. There is in one thing that I forgot to mention we also had a chicken with water chestnuts which was OK I mean flavorful, but not my favorite out of all the dishes. I really did enjoy everything else including the soup and the shredded pork had the perfect amount of kick to it , not too much. The food, however, is pricey, so do expect to spend a pretty penny, especially if you ordered as much as I did I can't say I'm surprised by that anymore we live in New York and all the food is expensive 'sad face' ... I work to eat

This spot was homey and had a good mix of regional styles of cooking. I tend to gravitate towards Sichuan style cuisine but all items were great. Service and ambiance were standard but otherwise good. They had a more elaborate seafood menu that I also would like to venture into and try but I was not in the mood to break shellfish and get messy the day I visited. I also think coming back for dim sum brunch would be nice! Overall good spot and would come back to try the other items!

Was craving authentic dim sum in Queens, this place was great! The food was really tasty, they sadly don't walk around with the carts, it's menu ordering. We were immediately sat and all of our food came quickly. I really liked the sticky rice shoamai, dumplings, and Chinese pancake! I was going to give 5 stars before I went into the womens restroom which gives storage closet vibes. Possibly they were halfway through cleaning. Otherwise, fantastic service and foods!

Absolutely love Memories of Shanghai, especially their shrimp dumplings, and make a point of trying something new on the menu every time I go. Other recommendation are the Shanghai Shumai, and the Stir Fry Rice cake with chives. More favs include pan fried dumplings and the beef-scallion pancakes. Then if you're up for a hearty soup on a cold winter day the soupy rice is the move.

You will not be disappointed. If you are ordering out the guy on the phone can't seem to get the orders right even simple ones. Double check when you leave there or when you receive your order at home to make sure you got what you wanted. There's nothing like walking 10 blocks home and realizing that the guy gave you the wrong order even after he called you back to confirm what you wanted( Chicken Fried Rice!)then make no offer to make it right. Time to try someplace else.
Be the first to ReplyI understand that there's good food here.
But I can't get past upcharging for rice. I left. I'm not sure how this business model will survive. Customers like me will have to go elsewhere for good Chinese food, not because we're cheap, but because of the idea of upcharging 10¢ worth of white rice. Although $21.95 is quite a lot for a dinner entry like Cumin Lamb, if it were $22.50 and they didn't upcharge rice I wouldn't feel like this. Nobody likes being nickel-and-dimed.Also the menu currently on their website had very old prices I was told. I was expecting the price to be much less, and then boom with the rice not included.

Do not get takeout, the restaurant skimps on the serving size. I had the pork wonton in soup, there was no pork in it, only the wonton skin, what a ripoff!
Be the first to ReplyThe service, food, and place are nice.
The food tastes very good - not oily (most chinese cuisine can be pretty oily). Their pan fried noodle is so excellent. It is very similar taste to Chinese Indo cuisine. Their dongpo pork is also delicious. The only thing that I think just ok is their dumpling. Highly recommended if you are around the area
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here since they moved.
They now have a decent space with good amount of seatings. Service is good, they don't rush you. Food comes out in a reasonable time too, freshly made. My friend and I had a good time catching up while eating lunch there since we didn't want to venture out of forest hills. Below are my two cents of the restaurant:Pro: they are the only restaurant of its type in this area, so if u need soup dumpling cravings fixed in forest hills, this is the place to be. their crab meat soup dumpling is pretty tasty. Sweet puffs are always good too. We got the taro one, not overly sweet.Con: price point is high. About 3-5dollars more each dish in comparison to the same food in flushing or Elmhurst. I guess it's because they don't have competition in forest hills. Also Dan Dan noodle sauce reminded me of hotpot flavoring packet(not bad but I expected something different I guesRecommend to come here if you want soup dumpling in forest hills, but I would prefer to drive out to Elmhurst or flushing for the pricing/taste combo.
Be the first to ReplySimply awful customer service.
I placed an order online for a family member and had it delivered a few days ago. On top of the service fee, I tipped the delivery person over $5, mind you for literally 0.5 miles. He shows up, extremely rude and demanding more money. How unprofessional and off putting. Do yourselves a favor and avoid this place and patron one of the other several fantastic Chinese restaurants in Forest Hills.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious with super fast service.
The only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because of the price and variety on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyI tried the lunch special recently and I must say the food
I tried the lunch special recently and I must say the food was pretty good as well as other aspects of the experience. I would like to have given 4 stars, however I was very disturbed by the condition of the rest room. There was a rather strong odor of accumulated urine. Like an under maintained park rest room. This is only possible due to lack of proper cleaning over a period of time. Does the restaurant have other hygenic shortcomings not visible to customers?

Casual restaurant for yummy dim sum! I stopped by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the food is. Based on pictures from Google and Yelp, the restaurant seemed to be dingy and a small hole in the wall. However, it had sufficient seating inside for atleast 5 groups and was clean and bright. The furniture is minimal, but the food is what attracts diners. The dim sum dishes range 9-25 (entrees are higher end price range). For 2 of us, we ordered 3 dim sum dishes and left very full and satisfied. Lunch for 2 cost ~$60. The beef braised soup was hearty, the lamb buns had good fluffiness to the dough, and the chicken dumplings were well seasoned. I do wish they had dumpling soup options that are non pork, or more diverse in proteins and veggies. Overall, many types of dumplings, noodles, and soup in the menu. Check it out if you want an authentic restaurant, as not all of them in Austin Street are.

While the food was a bit pricey for the portion size that we got, it was pretty good. Their soup dumplings were pretty meaty and soup was flavorful. Thick skinned pan fried dumplings, and crispy scallion pancakes. Would pass on the wontons with chili oil if we came back again because it was portioned the smallest. We were intrigued by the salted egg yolk crab rice cake so ordered it. If you don't mind working on the crabs with their shells, then it's a definite try, especially if you like salted egg.
Be the first to ReplyMemories of authentic delicious Chinese food in Forest
Memories of authentic delicious Chinese food in Forest Hills! Memories of Shanghai is located near the far end of Austin street near the police station. The restaurant is surprisingly tastier and highly rated than what appears to be a everyday Chinese restaurant judging by the appearance on the outside of the store. The soup dumplings, fried dumplings, noodle soups, and even the iconic sesame chicken tastes authentic and classic. The soup dumplings are the signature dish and you can't go wrong with it. The dumplings may stick together, the skin might break, and the soup inside may spill out so be careful when picking up the dumplings with the tongs. The sesame chicken tastes nothing like the one you order from the corner Chinese restaurant. It is crispy and poignant with flavor, not dry and starchy.Jasmine tea is included in the meal. The tea makes the restaurant and the experience more authentic. The prices are reasonable as well.

They had roaches crawling on the walls and a mouse ran across this is definitely not a space to eat and they don't have a great card I will be calling the health department this is disgusting.

Love this place! I don't think I've had anything I don't like here yet. My favorites so far have been the baby cucumber (refreshing, crunchy, slightly sweet), xlb, egg drop soup, and wontons in chili oil (and sesame paste maybe).
Be the first to ReplyI ordered takeout from here a little while back (December I
I ordered takeout from here a little while back (December I believe) with a bunch of others. The people inside from the little time I was there seemed friendly and the food overall was very tasty. The only thing I had extra from mothers below is the soy milk which as someone else said is a bit watery but it is a nice portion.Hong shong kao fu/烤麩/四喜烤麸 Simply listed as kau fu, this is made with braised wheat gluten and mushrooms and it's one of my favorite Shanghainese dishes. The flavors were excellent and the mushrooms and everything else was cooked properly. Overall it was a very tasty version with my only minor fault being that it was perhaps just a little bit too sweet but still not too much (with the ginger helping.)Beef noodle soup/#红烧牛肉面 I ordered this as my main dish. It was nicely packaged with the soup and braised beef separate from the fresh noodles and bok choy. The noodles were properly cooked and the beef was nice and tender with a good amount of fat but not too much for flavor. The broth was fine with a five spice and star anise flavor as expected with a bit of heat. Good portion also.Fried eggplant in a spicy garlic sauce/#鱼香茄子 We ordered this as a side vegetable. Big portion as per the other dishes and tasty with a good spicy sauce.Fried fish in sweet and sour sauce/松子全鱼Another person ordered this at their main and like the beef noodle soup, it was packaged with the cut up fried fish separate from the sauce. The sauce was not overly thickened with corn starch and it was sweet with a lot of pineapple. The sauce was fine but it's not my personal preference.I don't remember the exact dish the last person ordered though I think it was a spicy chicken dish (probably kung pao) and I don't remember much outside of it packing a good amount of heat and that it was also tasty.Overall the food here was very good. I unfortunately was not able to try anything with pork because we were sharing some of the things or else I probably would have gotten a different main dish. However the main dish I happened to get was quite good even if it wasn't particularly a Shanghainese dish and the rest of the mini was also good. No real complaints here. Obviously more expensive than going to parts of Woodside or some other areas but the portion sizes were large and the woman who gave me the food was nice. Mid 4.
