i have not stopped talking about this dining experience
i have not stopped talking about this dining experience since i've left toronto, & i would willingly take an hour flight back just for it. everything we ordered was beyond what we expected & the drinks were perfectly paired with the meals to cleanse the palette. fine dining to say the least! i would order everything i had again but the chicken, only to try the beef since it was sold out. the bread pudding for dessert was my least favorite thing on the table in regards of taste. the restaurant was very intimately set and perfect for any type of outing, albeit professional or personal. this is a place you take people!

My gf I traveled to Toronto for a few days and decided to have dinner at Mimi Chinese and let me tell you this place is so freaking good! We ended up getting a few drinks, had to get the one that comes in a Panda cup. All of the food we ordered was delicious! We really enjoyed the hidden crispy chicken, house char shiu, and four foot belt noodle. We really enjoyed all of the dishes and would definitely get them again. The interior was very modern and chic, great for date night or business meeting. The workers were nice and helpful with suggestions, so don't be nervous to ask your server questions. I'm already salivating at the thought of going back!

I'll say this about Mimi's, the decor/ambiance and the service is everything! All the servers were top notch, you will definitely be treated right Ok...so the food. I've heard about this place from a few people, so I was excited to try it out. Unfortunately, was pretty underwhelmed by everything. Overall I found most of the dishes overly salty . I don't eat pork and as some dishes had pork incorporated in them, they could put the pork separately so everyone at the table could enjoy the dish. Going with a big group we tried numerous dishes. Pretty much everyone in the group wasn't blown away either. I'll start with the things I liked. Chicken dumplings were pretty good, I could eat a plate of these. The sea bass was pretty decent as well. I did enjoy the smacked cucumber salad as well. Fresh and crunchy, it provided a good relief to the other salty dishes (As I don't eat pork, my group ordered the Char Siu and they all raved about it...apparently the best dish they tried ) Stuffed chicken wings - found it to be too mushy inside , didn't care for the texture. The famous four foot belt noodle - this is all the Tik Tok rave, but it was way too salty for me. Only impressed by the presentation. Supreme fried rice (pork on the side). Again another salty dish, and for $33, was disappointed. Eggplant - ok, nothing special, would recommend eating it fast bc otherwise it sits in the sauces and becomes more mushy. Luckily, with 6 people and the amount of dishes we ordered, the price was ok once split, but honestly felt meh overall. I'm glad I tried it but I don't see myself going back.
I'm always in favour of having more options of elevated
I'm always in favour of having more options of elevated asian cuisine and I think it's a sorely missing segment in the GTA. I was super excited to come here after attending famed French NYC chef Eric Ripert talk where he sang the praises of Mimi. I was mostly very whelmed with the meal. We had a decent sized group and decided to just order off the menu instead of doing the tasting. Everything was just fine and couldn't really criticize anything. The Char Siu however was fantastic. Using Pork Belly instead of a typical butt cut is exactly what I was looking for. It's something tasty and different. Everything else however, wasn't necessarily an elevated version of something I could get elsewhere at a fraction of the cost. The service was fantastic and did enhance the experience for sure as great service isn't typically associated with North American Chinese restaurants. I'm glad I was able to go and cross this off my list.
This has been heralded as the best Chinese food a western 3
This has been heralded as the best Chinese food a western 3 michelin star chef has ever eaten. Mimi is listed on the Michelin Guide. It's the 33rd best restaurant in Canada according to Best Restaurants Canada. I assume none of these people have bothered actually eating Chinese food. I don't care if I get flamed but the basics are all wrong, and anyone who's actually even just eaten Chinese food somewhat regularly in Markham/Richmond Hill will understand exactly what I mean. The four belt noodles and dumplings both share a fatal flaw. The texture of the dough was tough and difficult to digest (3 of us had stomach issues after our meal). The dumplings were an insult to the other dumpling restaurants in the city -- it would be easy to get double the amount for half the price, with better flavour and non-atrociously thick wrappers that were also too doughy. I'm pretty sure that the four belt noodle thing is just for the gram, so maybe it's our bad for ordering it. The charsiu ranged from too fatty to too dry. For this price, it would be easy to go to Extra BBQ or Sam Woo for something much more balanced and flavourful. The shrimp paste in the toast was likely machine blended. There was little trace of the bounciness of shrimp that you'd normally achieve via hand chopping the shrimp. Other than the cucumbers, all the food was luke-warm or warm at best. This place is all hype and not catered towards people who have grown up with this type of food. Stay away and instead, go to the ma and pa places, the neighbourhood places, and/or the places that they actually list on their website. I give this place 1.5 stars because they had good service and the stuffed chicken wing was actually tasty. I don't care if something costs more, but if a restaurant fails at fundamentals and 6/7 of their dishes are mediocre, I do not believe it should be on any list.
I just love seafood
I just love seafood and MIMI Chinese's Scallion & Ginger Scallop dish was absolutely amazing. The scallops were so tender, and the addition of scallion and ginger really took them to another level. Overall, it was such a delightful experience that I won't soon forget.
Modern and stylish
This is a must-visit for any Chinese food lover in Toronto. The food is exceptional, with each dish being beautifully presented and bursting with flavours. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the cuisine, providing helpful recommendations. The restaurant's modern and stylish decor adds to the overall dining experience.
Service was impeccable and super attentive
I was visiting Toronto and staying with a few friends who wouldn't stop talking about MIMI. We were lucky to snag a last minute reservation and let me tell you I was blown away. I almost thought about gate keeping the shrimp toast but it changed my life. Service was impeccable and super attentive. Cannot say enough good things about this place.
Absolutely mind blown
Absolutely mind blown. Everything from the ambiance to the service to the food is exceptional. The rice rolls are heaven sent.
Exceeded my expectations
Exceeded my expectations! The food was exceptional - each dish bursting with authentic flavours. The service was top-notch, with the staff being attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a delicious Chinese meal in Toronto.
Twenty six dollars for a small dirty martini.
with vodka not.,. Jay was our server, he was good and very accommodating. Story Starts Birthday Restaurant It was my brothers birthday, and I was telling him about the time my family and I went to Mimi's for my birthday in December. The food was so delicious and the portion size were perfect. Now this review goes down hill.... However, we started with the chicken wings. Really enjoyed them. Then the noodle the long noodle that everyone posts on social media. Great presentation by Jay. Just wanted to share that the noodle was not cooked and some of it was hard???? The sauce was seasoned with large amounts of Hoisin sauce, at its highest level. That's all you tasted. The temperature was cold, must of been waiting around for some time. Very disappointing. When I was at Mimi's in December it was a huge highlight of our dinner. Next We ordered the chicken covered with red chilipeppercorns. Beautiful presentation, unfortunately, we needed a shovel, to dig through to find the pieces of chicken. But when you are at a 2 seater table in the corner of a very dark restaurant I felt overwhelmed with chili all over the table . Don't get me wrong, I do love my chilies and I love seasoned chicken. But.....finally found the chicken, took our first bite of the chicken and the coated salted salt salted seasoning it was horrible. I was in shock, the chicken was sent back. We ended up drinking glasses of water . I'm not joking. End of Birthday Dinner I was so upset that whatever we ordered , I didn't want and I was so disappointed. We asked for our cheque, they did charge us for the chicken, we caught that mistake! Next birthday dinner, will be at our favorite place. For delicious lobster and steak.
Finally tried this place and split a bunch of items.
Had the mangosteen cocktail at $22 and could not taste a drop of alcohol in it. Complete waste! The shrimp toast was an amazing appetizer, would eat this again. The chicken dumplings were also quite good, but they are just dumplings. For mains we had the ginger scallion fish, char sui, crispy chicken and a side of cabbage. Everything tasted good of course, but unfortunately nothing truly wowed me. For a Michelin recommended place, this ain't it. Again, nothing tasted bad, but it didn't have a wow factor. I guess I expected more?
Too overspiced food! And we like hot food.
But this was ridiculous. Overpriced and not worth it. Service was ok but recommended a gluten free option and it came battered. Hidden chicken definitely not GF and definitely not worth the tiny amount of chicken in a mound of dried hot chilies that you cannot eat. At least they warned us to not even try! Far too loud. Low ceilings makes sound bouncy around and even a table of 4 can't hear each other. Never will return. Michelin star restaurant- thats a joke! Unfortunately on us.
Great Chinese Dinning
Great dining experience - food and service was excellent. Really liked the decor and friendly ambience.
Amazing meal, 10/10 recommend
My friends and I weren’t sure what to expect when we heard about a high end. Chinese restaurant, since we mostly eat at low key authentic Chinese restaurants in Markham, Scarborough and Chinatown. This was one of the best meals we had all year dining out together. Food was beyond expectation, service was attentive and friendly and restaurant vibe in general was a lot of fun. We also loved the music!
It Once Was Great...
We had dinner at MIMI Chinese in April - It was a life changing, super culinary experience. The tasting menu was stupendous. Lived up to the hype. The chefs in the open kitchen were engaging and we raved about our experience. We returned, enthusiastic with friends in late June and the change was astounding. The dishes we loved were replaced by bland, mediocre substitutes. Prices remained exorbitant. Terrible disappointment.
Food was too salty
This place has gone downhill food-wise. The selections are all extremely over salted. Beware if you have a heart condition, under high blood pressure medication or have hypertension. The service was good and the chef took back the saltiest selections but we cannot recommend the restaurant for food.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
