Didn't live up to expectations
We came here for a birthday bar visit as a group of four…. Getting in was interesting, almost “speak-easy’ish.” Once inside, service was challenging, as we had one person in our party with a food allergy that was previously advised to the staff, but seems it was forgotten upon our arrival. The staff was somewhat accommodating. Attention to detail and us by the staff was next to zero (we ordered a small bite and an hour later when we askd where it was she immediately replied “I’ll get it from the kitchen” then must’ve realized it wouldn’t be very good hanging out waiting for a runner that long and said “I’ll check on that.” Then a few mins alter came back and admitted she forgot and just put the order in when we asked about the status of it.) The nice thing is they took care of that small bite, as well as a couple extra drinks, which is very nice, but in a “Michelin class” restaurant/bar, we shouldn’t have elementary issues like the ones we experienced. As for the drinks, they were nicely done! But it was concerning that the server told us they were “pre-portioned.” That’s NOT AT ALL how a craft cocktail bar should operate.

We enjoyed our experience here. The flight tasting menus took us on a fun adventure with at times flavorful plates and tasty cocktails. The drinks were delicious but the food at times lacked balance or depth. This is more of a high end cocktail bar then a foodie restaurant. Still a fun experience. Service was a bit slow but very knowledgable. The grilled cheese is a must try!

This is a really fun experience if you are ready to splurge on drinks. It is a beautiful space as if in a laboratory for cocktails. Would recommend doing the pre-set 5 drink menu to see what journey they take you on!

This is worth the money. The atmosphere is good. The flight of specialty cocktails was outstanding! Our waitress, think her name was Abigail was superb.

It's more than a bar, its an experience...a show! Each drink has a theme an the bartender comes to your table and make sure drinks beside you with a lot of special effects. The location is a secret doorway and it's rsvp only.

My partner and i came all the way from NYC to experience this beautiful bar. I did not have a reservation and showed up at 5:30pm. We were so exited they were actually able to accommodate us. The male host was so nice. We sat by the bar and our bartender was Reesa (hope i spelled it right) she was amazing. Helped us with our cocktail selection because they all were so inciting we did not know what choose! The 2 cocktails she recommended were delicious. She also suggested places to visit while we were in town. She was the best. I will definitely return.

We went to Barmini for the “Night in Tokyo”. The food is a sequence of six light and very delicate snacks (eel roll, seaweed tacos….). We got the pescatarian version, which was fantastic. We’re not big cocktail drinkers but I ended up having four cocktails: two of which were sublime (Highlander), two very very good (Palermo) but that may be a matter of taste. The service is outstanding, seating is intimate and spaced out. It was a bit difficult for us to figure out what the experience was, a tasting menu? Drinks with snacks? But it’s probably somewhere in between in a category of its own. Certainly a really nice experience and a fabulous evening!
Be the first to ReplyDesserts & Madiera After MiniBar
In March, we were back to BarMini. Again, this was part of our dining experience at the adjacent MiniBar, though on this visit, we were in BarMini for only our dessert courses, as our evening began in the “living room” next door.
There were a few subtle changes, from our previous visit to BarMini, over a year before, but not enough to really notice - a chair removed here, one added there, a new table, but with the bright, highly eclectic décor, one would almost have to study previous photos, to pick up on the changes.
On this visit, there were several patrons at the bar, when our group of 12 diners (the number seated at MiniBar, as we were only a party of two) entered, after our savory courses in the adjacent dining room/kitchen. All of the others were enjoying their craft cocktails, which looked amazing. We, however, were there for desserts, coffees and in our case, two lovely Madeiras.
Service was excellent, and we wanted for nothing. There was as much whimsey in the desserts, and their presentations, as there is in the décor of the interior, plus a lot of visual “fun and games.”
The cocktails, which the bar patrons were having were intriguing, to say the least. I would have joined them, but we had already had 14 wines, with two more on the way, so it was not cocktail night for either of us. Still, the drinks were amazing in their complexity, and presentations, and enough so, that we will return, just for cocktails, though we are both avowed winos. I also got to see how the chemistry set, which I had observed on my previous visit, was used in the making of a cocktail. I just have to experience that first hand, and will do so, when we’re next back to DC - or so I plan.
Just a fun way to end an evening of fine-dining at Chef Andrés’ next door. The whole experience was a bit like Salvador Dali conspired with the Mad Hatter from Lewis Carroll to design and decorate BarMini, and then Young Frankenstein was tending bar in his laboratory - slightly surreal, but in a very interesting, and charming way. Got to get back for those cocktails!
Disappointed
My wife and I were flying to D.C. from Boston for the day. Our plans were tight. We had made reservations including a reservation charge of $30.00. When we arrived at the restaurant and bar we were seated in the bar area. When we explained we were there for dinner they said they could not accommodate us in the restaurant. They made no attempt to offer us food and were minimally apologetic. We left and luckily found another restaurant, Jaleo, that was terrific in every respect.

Loved the experience here. The drinks were comprehensive and top notch. Loved the wide variety and knowledge of the servers. They not only knew the ingredients but how they were made. Must go. Original experience. Drinks with dry ice and acid base indicators. Drink changed from blue to purple with addition of lime juice. Soo fun. I ordered butterfly pea tea powder and did it with my kiddos at home sans alcohol! If you have time and money, get the line up. The mojito in the capsule was AMAZING! Like nothing you’ve had before. This whole place is a must see and experience!
Be the first to ReplyWorth Doing Once in your Life
We went with another couple for our 30th anniversary. It is very expensive, and does not include drinks. And the cheapest wine on the menu is 180$. That being said, it is a unique experience. It is hard to describe, but it is a culinary adventure. You sit at a bar and watch the kitchen prepare the food. The taste are incredible. You need to be a little adventurous in order to go. If you are a meat and potatoes person, do not like seafood, or do not like veggies, do not go. The service is excellent. I highly recommend it for a special, special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyTruly Innovative Unique Experience
Yes it's pricey, but the flights of cocktails are so unique that it is worth it for a special evening out with a group of friends/couples. We even had a cocktail made with liquid nitrogen! They do have a small selection of nibbles available to order but definitely not dinner. Do this as a pre or post treat to your evening. Highly recommend. It is small and cozy with really eclectic decor. Be sure to make reservations in advance.
Be the first to ReplyBarmini is BarNone
The bartenders in Barmini are absolute craftsmen. They can take liquor, spices, gases and other liquids and make magical, tasty AWESOMENESS. You must reserve your places and head to a slide of heaven in DC.
Be the first to ReplyMust Come
Been kicking around the idea of coming here for sometime. We still need to come back for dinner. Reservations are a must! We dropped by prior to a concert to see if we could have a drink. Although they require reservations for the bar, we came at a perfect time to have one drink. The staff is great and the drinks were very different an very good. Yes its expensive but for what they prepare you should really try it!

Great mixology. Innovative techniques of classics (mojito spheres, caparhina on liquid nitrogen, etc) plus Nuevo mixology. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Pricey but I would highly recommend.
