Great Place, Great Staff
Great Place, Great Staff! April 2024 If you are considering a visit to Mohonk Mountain House I recommend you stop thinking about it and go! The place is beautiful, the food is excellent and the room was lovely. The best part was the truly awesome staff. We visited from April 15-17 and found every single person we encountered to be very pleasant and helpful A special thank you to Daryl at the front desk who provided exceptional customer service, In the dinning room we were greeted at every meal by Jamaal who made us feel so welcome and special. We ate every meal at the same table “Orchid 2 "The servers while always different at each meal all provided excellent, helpful and attentive service. They should be commended for a great job! We visited the greenhouse and met the manager. He was friendly and informative we appreciated him taking the time to speak to us. . Merhert in the gift shop provided another example of great customer service. The entire gift shop team were lovely. Every member of the hotel staff deserves a special thank you for making our stay one to remember. Looking forward to a return visit. Read less
Be the first to ReplyLovely, but LOTS of FAMILIES
We had a really lovely time at Mohonk Mountain House. It is so nice to wander and feel taken of and not worry about cooking or restaurant reservations (when you stay you do have to reserve a time to show up for dinner). We stayed mid week and were able to get a significant discount. Our total for two nights was around $1700. We each had 2 spa treatments they each run about $215. Some of the more desirable hikes were closed for icy conditions- but luckily there are plenty of trails. Our room was sweet and small with a fireplace (King with lake view). We had a lovely small balcony with 2 rocking chairs and a great view. We ordered wood from the front desk and had a little fire going one night. Our food at dinner very good. The Halibut was excellent. Lunch is a buffet style with many options and just okay. We might have picked the wrong week to go- there were SO MANY families. It made what I hoped for a romantic a very different experience. Kids were for the most part just being kids- but I looked forward to a more refined experience at dinner (was told men had to wear collared shirts). One teenager wore an old baggy tshirt and too huge sweat pants. At one table a little girl was watching her iPad and singing and dancing (in place- not disruptive) and these made the atmosphere feel more chucky cheese than $$$$ a night mountain resort. Kids Rand down the hallway (there is one sign by the lobby elevator that asks children not to run down the hallways). I was awoken at 7am by a crying baby. We still had a great time- we just adjusted our expectations. I am sure it is not possible, for business/financial reasons, but Mohonk would be perfect if they offered a “couples week”- or an adults only few weeks of the year.
Be the first to ReplyStill Great, but I Miss the Dinner Buffet
We hadn't been back to Mohonk since pre-covid times, and it's great to see that they are continuing to upgrade their slightly aging facilities -- A great stay is getting better, and their post-covid traffic seems to sustain their renovations. One downer however: Be aware that they've ended their dinner buffet and aren't doing a great job shoe-horning their new menu-order format into their traditional regimen of reserved-seating. Maybe they'll loosen up the 90-minute seating-window someday.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent getaway, great service!
We had an excellent relaxing stay. Rooms are kind of old fashioned but everything works very well and our bed was comfortable. Food is amazing and all included in the price. We made use of the spa, and had yoga and meditation classes which were great. We also hiked the beautiful grounds. But the service from all staff is outstanding, and that makes the difference here. Yes, this place is expensive but if you can afford it you will have a GREAT getaway. We will be back here at some point.
Be the first to ReplyThe perfect all-inclusive getaway, right in our “backyard”!
We took our family to Mohonk Mountain House for spring break. This place was amazing! Davida, from the call center, was so nice and helpful in booking us for a last minute getaway. We were very happy with the accommodations and service was top notch! The grounds are also very beautiful. No matter what time of year you stay at Mohonk Mountain House, there are so many indoor and outdoor activities, as well as an amazing amount of food to keep all the humans happy. The best part is that it is all-inclusive!

Amazing scenery, unlimited food! Farm to table selection was excellent! My daughter (we were there for her bday) loved it! Friendly staff, great activities. The yoga class was so relaxing. I met someone who was there three times before and we are definitely going back. Advise-book spa before you go there. Something’s were already booked.
Be the first to ReplyThe hike is amazing!
Beautiful location in an amazing environment. The personnel was excellent—polite, effective, and accommodating. I got a peaceful room with a lake view. Although the meal is ordinary and unremarkable, overall it was a really memorable experience.
Be the first to ReplyThere is a schism in what they’re trying to be
This is not my first stay at a high-end “luxury” hotel so I’m writing this from that perspective. There are really odd disconnects across the board. The valets who greeted us - awesome. Wouldn’t change a thing. Friendly, down-to-Earth, efficient, asked all the right questions and gave all the right guidance as to next steps. Check-in: bizarre. There was a woman whose job must’ve been to greet guests and keep everyone moving along, but nothing. “Checking in or out?” She asked. “In.” Then nothing. The queue was non-existent and it was just a mass of people. It was also a ‘kids stay free’ weekend and completely chaotic. When we got to the desk, the young man was civil, but robotic; and he was the best of the bunch. We had booked a suite for a few grand for just 3 days and two nights. It was our first trip in six years so we decided to splurge. The place is confusing and although they give you one paper map of the place at check-in, the signage inside the hotel is sparse to say the least. Nothing in the elevators. The place is palatial and it wouldn’t hurt to have a discreet and stylish version of a mall map (trust me - it’s complex enough to warrant it). I get they don’t want to ruin any of the history, but at the same time - they could find nuanced ways to enhance the visitor experience on that front. As far as ambiance, it’s beautiful old world charm…with more bare bulb fixtures blaring at you than you could ever imagine. At the time, that was the best you could do after gas light fixtures. But if the place evolved from gas light to bare bulbs (as they became available), I’d suggest it’s time for your next advancement because the bare bulb thing - is abrasive and overwhelming - every corridor, every room, the main gathering places. An endless sea of lightbulbs. And dust! I’m 6’4” and I don’t think anything was dusted over the height of 5’10”. Cobwebs on our bathroom light fixtures, that sort of thing. Was just unexpected. And clutter on all the hallway windowsills every day. As they’d service a room, they’d use the windowsills in the corridors to pile napkins, used dishes, etc. Really took away from the character and views. Services - the spa was great! Two of the best massages I’ve ever had - but the culture in the spa was completely different from the main building and the dining areas to the point I was left wondering if indeed it’s run as a completely separate business; it felt that way. Breakfast and lunch felt as if we were on a cruise ship, with fewer choices. We arrived mid day and our first meal was lunch. The food was barely warm. The only hot thing we had was the soup - which was delicious. Then came dinner. When we booked the suite, they made SUCH A FUSS about men wearing collared shirts, slacks, and proper shoes to dinner. We have friends who stayed here years ago and they wouldn’t seat the husband unless he changed into slacks. So we took it seriously and packed accordingly. Seated next to us was a guy in a hoodie, blue jeans, and sneakers. If you’re not going to enforce your rules, don’t make guests feel badly and force them to pack according to a policy you don’t bother enforcing. You made this guest resentful and left a bad impression. Room service - inconsistent experience. First time, great. Second time, we asked for tea for two; chamomile. “Oh, we can’t do that unless you buy a box.” So we had to buy like a dozen pouches of Egyptian chamomile tea in a wooden box. Ridiculous. I could walk into any office break room in America and get a couple bags of chamomile tea. We ordered coffee the next morning - no one answers the phone in room service BTW - you have to leave a message, then they may or may not call your room back (and wake everyone up) so you can confirm what you already left in your message. Waited an hour - nothing ever showed up. Went to breakfast, came back to the room and room service had cleared the prior night’s tea service, but we left a note not to leave the coffee in case they ever showed up. Weird and not the glitzy experience they advertise and charge for. So in the end, everything was disjointed. I wasn’t going to go into all this detail, but when I told a friend about some of these oddities, she said “After a hundred years, you’d think they’d have it all worked out by now.” And she’s right - after a 100 years, I’d think they’d have it all worked out by now. The grounds - so impressive and beautiful. But I wouldn’t go back. Do a day trip. You’ll get the best of everything.
Be the first to ReplyRelax and recharge in a serene oasis
I'm reluctant to write this because I would love to keep this gem a secret but their service and facilities are so consistently wonderful that feel I owe the family and staff a review. Bravo for doing an amazing job, for keeping a historic property in pristine condition, and for maintaining an oasis of calm in a world that is increasingly chaotic. I wish they needed an in-house eye doctor because I would live there in a heartbeat.

The hotel is situated in a wonderful location and is all inclusive. Overall they friendly service, but falls short in terms of going above and beyond to accommodate reasonable requests. The front desk manager was unwilling to find a solution that would have been granted in any other hotel. Really sours the experience.
Be the first to ReplySnowy birthday getaway
Came up for an early birthday celebration. The resort and grounds are stunning. Rooms are lovely and many are being renovated. Food is okay. Limited dinner options but they will adjust to your liking. We have to stay an extra day because of a late winter snowstorm; they graciously extended our rate and kept us in the same room. The only negative is being on a two meal plan, even though we technically are not checking in today, we cannot have lunch in lieu of dinner, which I would have preferred because of other options. Otherwise a beautiful getaway.
Be the first to ReplyA Great Getaway
I was hesitant to embark on this three night trip to Mohonk Mountain House arranged by my girlfriend. I was very pleasantly surprised. Let’s start with the food. All reservations include three meals per day. There are several options for each meal. It’s too much food, but it is delicious. For breakfast, you can dine in the Main dining room and have your choice of many delectable options. I had a lobster omelette, eggs Benedict, and a vegetarian omelette. All three were outstanding. They also were able to prepare my Bulletproof coffee, which is part of my keto diet. You can also eat in the Lake Lounge where there is a complete buffet including scrambled eggs. Having had a complete breakfast each day, lunch was unnecessary, but it was included. Again you can eat in the Main dining room where there are a variety of tasty options from which to choose. Lunch includes a starter, an entrée and dessert. I particularly enjoyed the gazpacho and lobster salad. Everything I ordered was great. The desserts especially are wonderful at Mohonk Mountain House. Or you can go to the Granary, which is an outdoor buffet-style area with picnic tables. There you can order hotdogs, hamburgers, mushroom burgers, vegetarian burgers or a pulled meat barbecue sandwich. There are a variety of salads and fruit options. For dessert you have your choice of cakes, cookies, brownies or ice cream. I could have eaten there every day. We had dinner at three different venues. The main dining room is almost gourmet standard fare. The starters, entrées and desserts were all excellent. Another night we ate at the Pavilion, which was the potential bad weather option for the Granary. Again, it’s buffet style with your choice of different cookout options. There were also crabcakes, mussels, salmon, cold salads, vegetables, and a carving station. Desserts are similar to the lunch options of cakes, pies and ice cream. My only complaint was that we went on the late side and some of the food in the chafing dishes was cold and we were rushed to leave. If you go to the Granary for dinner, go early. Our final dining destination was the West dining room, which is a much smaller room than the Main dining room and, I believe, serves a slightly different menu. Nevertheless, my girlfriend’s pasta and my steak were excellent as were the desserts. Dining at Mohonk Mountain House is a treat. Be prepared to put on some pounds. There are plenty of things to do at Mohonk Mountain House. There is a relatively new spa with indoor pool, swimming and boating at the Lake, which is directly next to the hotel. There are tennis courts, a basketball court, volley ball, discus golf, and a playground. At the bottom of the mountain, Mohonk has a nine hole golf course. It is short, but very challenging with narrow fairways, blind shots, major elevation changes and some severely sloped greens. Our room was spacious enough with a balcony and rocking chairs overlooking the rear side putting green and a view of the lake. Tipping is included in your room rate and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I will compare it to the training received by Ritz Carlton employees. Despite the relatively expensive accommodations, There were plenty of families with children there. They claim they have been sold out since January 1., which is a great thing since it means they can retain their employees throughout the year. I give Mohonk House a big thumbs up.

I tempered my expectations based on reviews and so was not disappointed by my stay. We had a great, relaxing weekend and I imagine it would be even better in warm weather since there are abundant spaces and seating for outdoor lounging. However we did take part in winter activities as snow tubing and ice skating, both very fun. And they had all the proper gear so we could still hike. I think the biggest mental disconnect is you’re paying for a 5+ star experience while the hotel is solidly 3 stars. I’m hoping they really do take care and compensate their staff well. The food was as expected, decent buffets and ok dinners. The biggest and not expensive improvement they could make there is improving the dinner bread. They give a whole loaf to each table but the texture is not great and it tastes like nothing. Surely they can do better. Another gripe is they only serve very weak black coffee (but kudos for offering oat milk!). An espresso costs $6. $6. One other thing I liked was that they offered real vegan and GF desserts. Usually if i ask, I’m offered a scoop of strawberry sorbet or something. They had honest to goodness vegan cakes which were very tasty. All the staff we interacted with were very pleasant. I was let down by the spa since I’d read several reviews about ‘best massage ever.’ I got the neck and shoulder massage, expecting the therapist to really get in there and work on my many knots but despite asking for all the pressure, it was very light and did not offer any relief. If you want a massage that puts you to sleep, I guess this is for you. I did enjoy spending several hours at the spa and dipping in and out of the facilities and reading in between. The outdoor pool is very nice in the cold weather but only accommodates 9 people. I’d love to come back during the spring-summer-fall but it’s so pricey we unfortunately can’t afford it.

1st time to the Mohonk and to any spa as well. Disappointed in myself that I waited so long. But there's no time like the present. Spent 2 nights mid week as a couple. Although some of the more interesting trails were closed. Still plenty to occupy our time and give reason to return. Which we will. Cannot say enough about the hospitality of the staff. Everyone we encountered was wearing a genuine smile and ready to assist if asked. The scenery and facilities are spectacular and well maintained. Encountered many guests who were repeat customers. Easy to see why.
Be the first to ReplyMystery Weekend - Fun For All
This was our 4th time participating in the Mohonk Mystery weekend, which has become a much-loved tradition for me and my two young adult children. We get so involved with the word puzzles, Escape room, and murder mystery, that we scarcely have time to squeeze in ice skating, a dip in the pool, a walk around the grounds and a game of billiards. (If a Monhonk manager is reading this, PLEASE move the billiard table to a larger room or provide half-length cue sticks. With such a huge resort it’s pretty sad that you can’t find a properly sized room for the pool table). The food is delicious and the servers are very accommodating to special diets. At the buffet, foods are labeled gluten-free, vegetarian, nut-free, etc. but sometimes there are additional options that aren’t available unless you ask – like GF toast or GF pasta. Our large, refurbished room had 2 comfortable queen beds, a pull-out sofa, a desk, 2 dressers, a wardrobe, a built-in shelf/storage area, comfy chairs and tons of light. Dimly lit rooms are a pet peeve of mine so I really appreciated the many lamps. Even if you don’t participate in their special weekends, Mohonk is a great resort with a little bit of something for everyone. Just bring your comfy walking shoes as the hotel and grounds are expansive.

We were looking for a long weekend away and thought Mohonk might fit the bill. It happened to be Mohonk’s famous “mystery weekend” we had no clue in what was involved but joined in the fun, met some fantastic guests and had a very, very good time…. Would definitely do it again…. In addition to the great hikes we went on and the food which was incredibly good

The mountain house was on my bucket list and did not disappoint. There are many activity options and the food is excellent. The staff was obviously well trained - something you do not observe often these days. I would highly recommend a stay here, even if only for a few nights.

Short getaway that was worth every penny and then some. Great staff. Best food ever, and if you get a massage in the spa, ask for Cheryl!! Rooms are very nice, extremely comfortable bed, amazing view from our balcony. Awesome old structure and the grounds and views are incredible!

This was our second visit to Mohonk, and it did not disappoint. The winter activities, food, spa and room were excellent. We enjoyed our fireplace and balcony. The peace and quiet are worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyHow does this place exist!?
The rooms are small but quiet and have a breathtaking view of the lake. The lunch and dinner are amazing, with fresh fish from the Hudson valley and a delicious salad bar with a wide variety of different toppings and salads. The drinks are also amazing. I recommend taking at least one hike, because they are amazingly beautiful but not always easy.
