the dress code cringe worthy
I haven't been to back to this restaurant since around mid 2022; The whole dress code thing is pretty disturbing on the highest level. I was at the bar, and a young very well dress couple was seated behind me. Maybe it was a first date, who knows maybe their wedding anniversary. He was wearing a well designed Henley button up the middle tee shirt, and dress pants very sporty, and she dressed very well. They were seated behind me. Once they were seated a few minutes later and I knew it was coming. They got the grim sad, negative news about the dress code regarding the man having to wear a collared shirt. A very depress and angry glazed went over the mans face. They decided to promptly just leave. However their was an older man sitting next to me at the bar, wearing flip flops, a very wrinkled collared shirt and some what tattered shorts. Now here's the interesting thing. This was about 7pm and they were closing at 10pm. Their was no other customer that ever sat at the table the rest of the evening, other wise should have been probably $100 plus table plus tip. I will never go back for that reason alone. It's very cringe worthy to sit their and watch someone else other than myself go through that.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place!
Very nice place. Great value. First time eating lamb chops! Had to send the chops back for med well instead of med rare. Otherwise it would have been a 5
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Experience! Great Food and Service!!
My family and I went for dinner. We had an amazing experience - the service was great, the live music was amazing and the food was on point :) I will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyFine Dinning in Germantown, TN
Since opening, Moondance Grill has consistently provided one of the finest local dinning experiences. So, we often recommend them. A dear friend was celebrating a milestone birthday. So, my wife met her at Moondance Grill for lunch and drinks on a Saturday afternoon. They obviously had a GREAT TIME, because it was 3.5 hours before my wife called me to pick her up.

This was the first and last time I will patronize this restaurant. $20 for a salad? Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bacon, bits, and avocado. I feel foolish.
Be the first to ReplyAlways consistent
Good service, very nice inside, staff is friendly, good atmosphere. We've eaten at this restaurant every time we've come to Memphis for the st Jude fedex tournament because we stay at the hotel next to it. It's a good restaurant. I got the jambalaya pasta good and spicy. My wife wife had the wedge salad. The hole experience is always good.
Be the first to ReplyShrimp and Grits FTW but read to the end
This restaurant was selected by a local business colleagues with whom I have dinner meetings when I’m in town. I am, admittedly, from the North. Not only had I never had shrimp and grits, I had never had grits at all which astonished my Memphis colleagues. One of the best parts of traveling on an expense account is trying new things. The shrimp and grits are delicious!! I’ve been back for them several times. ***The food is great, but I’m not a fan of the dress code. Know before you go. They do have a collection of men’s jackets you can borrow for those of us who forget - my husband was offended and declined and we went elsewhere when I brought him to town). I think it is unnecessary and have dined at much higher-end restaurants that do not employ such a tactic. I am of the mindset that if I have money that I want to spend in your establishment, you shouldn’t turn me away. A dress code is simply discriminatory and as I write this, I’m honestly wondering if the yummy shrimp and grits are worth supporting a restaurant that discriminates.
Be the first to Replyhorrible experience racist and not freidndt
horrible restaurant. u can tell they don’t like serving black people. they take their time, barely check on you and make short rude remarks. never going back highly would not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGood
I really enjoyed my food and the atmosphere. Our waiter was a very nice and attentive young man. I was so looking forward to returning, unfortunately we will not be returning to Moondance. I will not support an establishment that employs racism people. Allie, you should be ashamed of yourself! Not allowing people to book a reservation because of their name, and what that name represents. Shameful business practices!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Restaurant in Memphis, TN Metro
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. The food was delicious with lots of healthy options for vegetarians. The flatbread was so good and a perfect starter. Our server, Hanna Z, was pleasant, efficient, and attentive. The service was outstanding! I will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyAgeism and Age Discrimination
I don't like to give bad reviews, but this kind of thing is starting to be too prevalent in many restaurants, and needs to be addressed and stopped. Moondance Grill started requiring a dress code, which I fully support, and it has beautiful ambience within the main dining area. Add this to usually delicious food, and people will walk away with a special dining experience. But what's the point in a dress code if, with a reservation, you're walked through that beautiful dining area to the "back room" that looks nothing like the rest of the place? Ambience? Hardly. Brighter lighting, rough looking tables and chairs, etc. All you need is to add a couple of rocking chairs, a game of checkers between them and you have the look of Cracker Barrel! At a much higher price, of course. This happened to us recently. And every dining guest in that room shared one thing: being older, as in being past a certain age to be seated in the main dining room that warrants a dress code. Anyone seated in that room should at least be given a Senior Discount, right? Early Bird Specials, right? I'm kidding and being sarcastic. It was insulting and ruined the dinner because of the overall experience. And I'll never go back. The whole experience was discriminatory. Age discrimination is a big, ugly thing. While I don't think anything will be done to prevent it from happening again, I do feel better simply posting this review. I'll continue to point it out every time it happens.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place of date night.
I advise to make reservations ahead but once you get there they usually do not have a wait time for reservations. The hostess greeted my date and I right away with a very pleasant smile. The sever was very knowledgeable on the menu and recommended the salmon which I ordered. The atmosphere was great and the food was wonderful. I recommend this place for a date night to any celebration. They do have a dress code so you may want to check the website. This is my new spot to go and I love it.
Be the first to ReplyDecent food, good drinks - but won’t accommodate food allergies.
Made a reservation, including noting a dairy allergy. Arrived early before a concert and noted the food allergy again for the server. Not much on the menu for someone with a dairy allergy. Food was good, drinks were better. Got to dessert, and discovered nothing on the menu for a person with a dairy allergy. Asked the server to check with the chef, she said the manager said they could serve a bowl of fruit. Asked to speak with the chef, and was told the head chef was not there and the chef in the kitchen was too busy to speak with me. Said I could speak to the manager. Have traveled to nice restaurants all over the country and always had efforts to accommodate food allergies, from both management and good chefs. Not here. In short, the food was decent, the drinks were good. My family in the area enjoys the place on a regular basis. Don’t go if you are expecting a food allergy accommodation, even if you include it in a dinner reservation.
Be the first to ReplyLike a breath of fresh air
Like a breath of fresh air. If you get tired of the same old food then this is a place to go. It sounds like the same old food but it’s not. It’s wonderfully different. A+ in my book but expensive. I recommend using the valet parking.
Be the first to ReplyNew Rules are Irritating
We had 6:15 reservations. As usual they did not have a table for 4 ready but offered immediate seating at a high table - the tables you see in airports where you stand up or sit down to eat a hot dog. I was well dressed with a sweater but no collar. I was informed of their new dress code requiring a collar and was given a ugly short sleeve jacket to wear. Service was mediocre but the food was generally good. I normally tip 20% but we were shocked when told a 20% tip was required for all orders at a table over $100. Sad to see a mandatory 20% for mediocre service which could have been poor service.
Be the first to ReplyAn excellent restaurant with a non traditional menu selection
We’ve been to Moondance a few times and it was consistently good. When I made my reservation for our visit today the system notified me of the new dress code and 20% service fees for orders over $100. None of which affected our usual attire and tipping. Moondance is a very nice place and can be as expensive as you want. Our prime filets and shrimp were cooked exactly to order and tasted great! Our appetizer then BLT and Caesar salads terrific. Service was just right and the cleanliness was excellent. The valet service was friendly and prompt. Shiniest silverware ever. Stay classy Moondance.
Be the first to Reply"Just trying to keep out the riff Raff".
I have been to Moon Dance grill so many times it makes me mad that last week they would not seat me because I had on a plain t shirt and tan pants . they said they are posting a dress code and the rule was no collar no service. as I was leaving a man behind me said it's to keep out the riff raff. but a man coming in was dressed in shorts and baseball cap with flip Flops . .
Be the first to ReplyNew dress code is divisive and classless
We are appalled that the management has decided to implement a dress code, even for lunch. It lowers the class of the place
Be the first to ReplyRidiculous dress code.
Are you kidding me? I was in a dressy shirt (Tommy Bahama) without a collar & dress pants @ 2:30pm. It’s 100 degrees. I was rejected because I didn’t have a collar. They did offer me a collared shirt to wear. No thanks. Unbelievable. Lost a good customer today. Was one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Unfortunate and silly dress code. Get over yourselves! Back to Jim’s Place Grille as my top spot.
Be the first to ReplyHumiliating embarrassing experience.
Went to moondance grill for dinner and drinks. We have been going there since they opened. We supported them by ordering takeout when Covid shut them down at least weekly. We have probably been there over 100 times. Didn’t have a reservation, asked hostess if we could sit at the bar. Sat down ordered drinks and an appetizer. So far so good. In the middle of a bite the manager walked over and loudly asked my husband if he had a shirt with a collar in the car. Answer: no. Then asked if he had a jacket in the car. Answer: no. He then asked us to leave because my husband’s designer shirt didn’t have a collar. We have never had such a humiliating and embarrassing experience. They serve burgers and fries for heaven sake. Turn us away at the door if that is your policy, don’t wait until we are eating just to humiliate us. Very sorry we supported you all this time.
