Had the NYE 4 course tasting menu that totaled $300 for two
Had the NYE 4 course tasting menu that totaled $300 for two people, including tip. The food was lackluster and portions stingy. In retrospect, would have passed on the oysters Rockefeller which were bizarrely dry, like sawdust. Server was fun, like they were in on the joke of how bad it was but unable or uninterested in making the experience better. Nice room though. And the cocktails, which weren't included in the tasting menu but clearly should have been because they are the star of the show, were novel and yummy. Overall the experience was unspecial and kindof a ripoff.
Be the first to ReplyFood was great if not a little pricey.
"Vintage" drinks (made with old liquor) is a thing here...they were EXCELLENT and served in beautiful glasses. A cool vibe, great food and attentive service

Waited over an hour and a half for bar seats and waited for text message... no notification and waited in the cold. Ended up going next door.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for drinks with friends.
It's right across from Wrigley Field, and we went when there was a concert going on, so understandably it was full. However, we were seated upstairs and served quickly. The place is well designed and everything looks nice. Our server was great, and understanding when I didn't like a certain drink and gave me a suggestion for a different one. Most of the drinks were okay, but not up my alley. However, I did finally try one that I loved. My friend also ordered a pesto and clam pasta, and that was absolutely delicious.I'd go back and try some other drinks and if they added some others to the menu. I would go back to try the food as well.

My friend and I didn't enjoy this place at all, unfortunately. It's very pretty, but the service is not great at all and we got the worst pasta we've ever had. There were 8 people in the restaurant beside us, and it took 30 minutes for our food to come out (we only ordered bread and two plates of pasta). Overall, I would skip this place. There's tons of amazing restaurants in the area!
Be the first to ReplyI'd go for cocktails, but pass on the food.
Service was also lackluster. Too many other good food options in the city to spend your money here.

This is an extremely overpriced hotel lobby restaurant located right off the lobby of the hotel Zachary. Our drinks tasted were fine but very light pours (the martini glasses where borderline the size of two shots glasses) and expensive. The food was fine but smaller servings and, again, overpriced. We had to chase our server down for the bill and I had to go give her our credit cards. I would not return. There's so many better places in Chicago.

Great food, great authentic cocktails! The menu is diverse and everything had great flavor. I will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat burger and drinks very nice setup.
Staff know their stuff. A nice high end place in Wrigleyville

After enduring a couple of mediocre ballpark beers followed by rain that wouldn't quite let up, we decided to watch the rest of the Cubs game at a classy cocktail bar! Way more my speed. We got there at the top of the 7th inning and there were about eight guests there in total, three at the bar and the rest at a couple of tables. Our drinks were good and the bartender who made them was really nice. Unfortunately, we got there right before shift change and everyone that took over for the evening could not have given less of a sh*t about us. Both of the new bartenders stood at opposite ends of the bar, stirring drinks that were seemingly for no one because everyone that was there was visible from where I was sitting and they all had full glasses. Except for us! There were two servers for the two seated tables and they were both watching the mixology that was going on. Even the manager wouldn't make eye contact with us as I guess he was in a hurry to make a drink for nobody too and he went behind the bar as well. So, three bar guests in total, three people behind the bar all with unobstructed views of our empty glasses... and we couldn't get a soul to give us a second round or take a food order. Not sure what we did to deserve such rudeness as we got great service everywhere else that day including at the wonderful Swift and Sons. I'm not sure how long we sat before one of the bartenders finally acknowledged us but we paid our check and DIPPED. I would get it entirely if they were slammed-- it's Wrigleyville! But there were literally as many employees as there were guests! Truly bizarre! I gave them two stars SOLELY because of the first bartender.
Be the first to ReplyHighly disappointing.
The most tasteless pasta dish I've had in a long time. Salt your pasta water... please. It may be pretty but overall lacks depth and flavor. Aside from the few shaving on top the dish was missing a truffle taste throughout. Overall lackluster experience.

Stopped for the first time because the menu looked really good and the place was cute. I got the fish and chips...pretty hard to screw that up. The fish was really mushy and soggy and had zero taste. And it's pricey so expected it to be great and was really disappointed. I would not recommend this place. -Ronnie from @doorwaysofchicago

Mordecai is a delightful whiskey and craft beer bar in the Hotel Zachary, across from Wrigley Field. Named after "three fingers" Mordecai Brown, a Cubs pitcher from the early 1900's. Owned by the Ricketts, it is a great place to stop before or after a game. Nice innovative menu from a great chef, and a wonderful selection of whiskey. More pappy van wrinkle than any other place in town. Very nice selection of craft beer. The desseI saw a review in a national magazine accusing it of being elitist and hipster, the author claimed no one in Cubbie Blue would go there. Well, the excellent craft beers were $6, while I paid $10 to $14 do crummy non-craft beers in Wrigley. And since I am over the age of 25, I have no desire to go to the Cubby Bear down the block and drink crummy beer at inflated prices. So I would highly recommend Mordecai!

Some friends asked to meet here and with all the great neighborhood restaurant options, I had my doubts about a spot in a hotel across from Wrigley. It was fantastic. We sat in a booth in the front open window so it felt like we were outdoors. There was an orchestra playing in the park across the street, great people watching. Our waiter (can't remember his name, but he was a former school teacher) was terrific, just the right mix of personal and professional. He really knew his stuff, made spot-on recommendations. The food was outstanding, the cocktails inspired. It was just an all around A+ memorable, great outing.
Be the first to ReplyStopped here to get a drink with a friend .
I liked the upscale vibe of the place . Drinks take a little while to be served but it might be because they have a huge selection of liquor available . We shared some steak and fries and a cheese table . Both were good .
Be the first to ReplyThe drinks here are really well thought out and crafted.
With that said, they might offer too many options because I was there one time and it took the bartender over 5 minutes to find a bottle because the wall is so intricate and their offerings are so vast. I wouldn't ding a star for it though! Go check them out, worth a couple drinks if you're in the neighborhood.

We had an amazing time celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary. The staff was amazing and the food outstanding. We wanted to try everything but got full and had to stop! We even had a friend call the restaurant and buy us a drink, which was pretty amazing. We plan to come back to actually try an Entree!Don't hesitate to come here for a special occasion or just for dinner. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Mordecai is a great restaurant/bar to give a try if you have not done so yet. This restaurant has a great upscale chill atmosphere with a view of Wrigley Field.I got the focaccia basket to start. The bread came out warmed. It was paired with a maple butter and a parmigiana dip. The bread had bit of a spice to it, but it was very good and different! Definitely suggest trying it out! For my meal, I got the rigatoni alla vodka. This pasta dish was delicious.

How to make a weeknight special? Grab a reservation on a snowy night and have pasta at Mordecai. I loved the mocktail - Lemon Balthazar - it's exactly what a non drinker would want in an adult drink that does not have alcohol in it. We had the lobster and shrimp dip (not enough baguette and not enough flavor), the orechetti (yummy sausage with a good spicy flavor), the spaghetti and meatballs (yuuummmmm- meatballs are a tad salty but delicious and hit the spot perfectly), and the beignet dessert with popcorn (such a perfect ending- really enjoyable). It's a great spot for a romantic dinner on a Monday night when there isn't a baseball game. Being in the shadow of Wrigley is so special.

We had a wonderful time at this restaurant! We had friends in from out of town who wanted to go there. We were concerned because it did not appear there were any vegan options on the menu; however, we called them in advance and they said the chef would prepare a special vegan course for us. It was fantastic! They have fake cocktails as well that were very tasty.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an amazing bourbon selection.
Vintage dusties, super rare allocated bottles, and great standard pours. This place is one of the best bourbon bars anywhere. I'm sure they have good food as well, but I have yet to make it past the bourbon.

Be the first to ReplyWhat a great meal.
We went on Wed pasta night and shared 4 meals between 4 people. The shrimp and grits dish was fantastic. The swordfish and chips was very worthy of ordering, a great play on traditional fish and chips. The two pasta dishes were also outstanding. We will be back, I love a restaurant that changes their menu with the seasons.

Definitely recommend stopping at Mordecai before heading to your seats at the Cubs game! The appetizers pair perfectly with a cold glass of Old Style!
