Morimoto Philadelphia Reviews from The Last Year
Always a wonderful experience.
Our server was Johnson and he was knowledgeable in navigating the menu with a gluten allergy. The restaurant is loud, but that doesn't take away from your dining experience. Need I talk about the food other than to say it will never ever disappoint. The fish is fresh, the wagyu is wondrous and the desserts are divine!
This is the best sushi restaurant in the U.
S., period. I've been dining here for 20 years, every chance I get when traveling to or through Philadelphia. The fish quality and selection are unsurpassed. The ambiance and decor are unique and memorable. The service is top notch. I was passing through Philly a few days ago so, of course, I went. I had the omakase, which was a new composition since I last had it a couple of years ago. The first course, a caviar-topped bao is, perhaps, the best single bite of food you will ever have. The omakase weaved in an out of various proteins masterfully. When the nigiri course arrives, start with the shrimp and go in order of presentation to finish with the chu-toro. It is perfect that way. The panna cotta dessert might have been the only weakness in the 8 course lineup. After many years, Morimoto still has it.

Let me first say that NYC misses Morimoto!!! We were very excited to dine in the Philly Morimoto and even happier to see that the menu was very similar to the one in Manhattan (RIP). The space is smaller and less club like but still has the same modern lines. The staff was very friendly. We had: - Miso Soup - my kids loved - Tuna Pizza - always a favorite - Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice - delicious and not too hot - Black Miso Cod - delicious - Assorted Sushi & Sashimi - all delicious and fresh Next time we are in Philly, we will be back.
What an amazing experience.
First off the build out is spectacular. So beautiful and comfortable. The food was excellent. I've eaten at a few morimoto restaurants and always walked away a bit underwhelmed but not here, this place shines. And exceptional service from Amani. She was so helpful and knowledgeable about the food. Just a delightful lady.
This restaurant has been on my list for years since I moved
This restaurant has been on my list for years since I moved to Philly. I just hadn't had the budget to make my way there until now. I am a huge iron chef fan and Morimoto is one of my favorite chefs so you can imagine I was excited to try this place. Tbh I have sat on the corner west of this location waiting for the bus many a time and had no idea that is where it was - similar to other starr restaurants in the area, it's an unassuming entrance and you're transported somewhere different you may not have expected. The ambience was cool - I wish the music was quieter as I couldn't hear our server. Food was a little slow to come out but my god was everything great so it was worth it. Food we loved: everything! But we had Miso black cod 5/5 Wagyu filet 10/5 my partner called it a "religious experience" Wagyu dumplings 5/5 Tuna crispy rice 5/5 Wagyu udon 5/5 Hoku hoku 4/5 and least favorite Mushrooms 5/5 Wasabi fried rice 4/5 Would 100% dine here again. Food was delicious and I hope next time to try the omakase!

Went to Morimoto for my 5 year anniversary and it was nothing less than pleasant and amazing! We had Andrew as our server and he exceeded all my expectations. We sat at the sushi bar and got the omakase (which is a taste of all the dishes and chef selection) which was different than a lot of other omakase's we went to. All other omakase's were just nigiri after nigiri, but this one you have a little bit of everything and I enjoyed that so much more. The fish was extremely fresh and each dish that was presented to you was explained in great detail. We also upgraded the wagyu steak to the Japanese Wagyu for $55 more... and you can tell the difference between the two steaks. Definitely worth the upgrade!!! The vibes were there, the ambiance was there, and it was overall a great experience!
Ambiance 4/5- love the lights! The whole restaurant glows.
Filet was sub-par and not worth the $95 at all 2/4. Udon noodles were ok 3/5. Sushi was good, nothing crazy 4/5. Drinks were good. Would come back for drinks & apps/sushi.
Fantastic sushi but pricy. Get the fatty tuna!
Sushi here was pretty fantastic but a bit pricy at around 20 bucks a roll. We got the chef’s choice and the fatty tuna sashimi was to die for. Rolls were creative and flavorful. The drinks were good, not great. Dessert was fantastic. The interior was super chic and service was fantastic. Server visited often and took drinks, refilled water, etc. pretty much immediately.
Couldn't have chosen a better place to spend my birthday
Couldn't have chosen a better place to spend my birthday dinner at for 3 reasons: - atmosphere 10/10 and the design/decor of the restaurant is elite - the food and drinks were to die for, fresh fresh fish (which gets more and more rare these days), reasonably priced for the echelon ! - the staff was so nice! Shoutout my girl Christine you rock
Highly recommend
I have nothing but amazing things to say about my experience. Dan the manager was honestly so hospitable, kind and made our experience amazing. Definitely recommend
The sushi is tops.
The place still feels hip. However, waiting 20+ minutes between very rich omakase courses was not ideal. I would not have done it had I known the wait would be so long between each. I was full by 4th course since everything took so long. That was disappointing. The courses were delicious but some later ones were underwhelming. Started strong and fizzled out. It was very hard to hear what I was getting as it was very busy and loud inside. We ended up being there almost 2.5 hours. My partner got the $75 chef choice sushi platter. It was at the table incredibly fast at the beginning before I got my first course. He was done by the 3rd course and he took his time and then had to sit for 5 more. Possibly suggesting his come out a few courses in would have been smarter if the wait was known to be so long.
The first time I ever came here was for my 21st birthday
The first time I ever came here was for my 21st birthday with my family years ago, and it's just as wonderful as I remembered it! Came here with my cousin this time, and we had a blast with the omakase pairing. I also had the sake pairing while my cousin chose the wine pairing. We really shelled out for a celebration -- go big or go home! As the omakase always changes, it's hard to compare experiences. 8 delicious courses, and exquisitely plated works of art. It was a great way to experience different food and drink pairings! Our server was also fantastic and explained everything very clearly and kindly. Never made us feel rushed. They even printed out our menus for us! Unfortunately, 8 shots of sake with limited food portions compromised my memory facilities. So, the tipsy dummy that I was, I totally forgot my envelope when we left, but at least my cousin remembered theirs. The only detractable feature is the lighting and space design. I think there needs to be more acoustic dampening as the sound really travels in the open concept dining room. And the lighting isn't great. Photos turned out really dark, and needed tons of brushing up to post clearly -- so if you're a yelper, grammer, or whatever, be prepared to do some legwork. The dimness of the room made the culinary plating a little harder to see and appreciate in person. That aside, we had a great time otherwise. Would be happy to go back again for another special occasion!
We went around 5pm so we had the option to sit anywhere.
We chose the sushi bar area so we could watch them make sushi. Our server was very nice and very attentive we didn't have to wait for anything, he was having everything come out in a timely manner. My daughter ordered for us so I apologize for not knowing the names of the dishes but they were delicious.
Here for a family gathering and the service was incredible!
Here for a family gathering and the service was incredible! I have many allergies which were all accommodated with excellent suggestions as well. The food was truly delicious and met with a lovely ambiance!!

So first of all the service was very good except for a little neurotic place-setting on the part of staff, not sure what that was about but it was eccentric. On the other hand, my mother made a passing remark about the chill and the hostess quickly came back to tell us the manager was increasing the temperature. Food is sushi: I didn't find it "inventive". It was sushi and the usual companions. Prices are stratospheric, our tab for three people was more than $150 per person. I thought the decor was cold, but I guess appropriate to sushi, you wouldn't want to eat raw fish amongst antiques or Victorian bibelots. The restaurant is a typical Starr operation, stage-managed from start to end, high prices, warm efficient service. This is entirely a question of taste but I find this to be one of his less successful productions, I would never go here as a retreat from the every-day like I would Barclay, Butcher, or Parc. But for someone who has to eat sushi as a sort of tribute to the gods of chic, this is fine.

We did the 8 course omakasi tasting menu with the saki pairing. The saki choices were varied and unique. The tasting menu was fun, but probably too much for us-we should have ordered directly off the menu. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. Not sure the cost was worth the experience but it would not keep me from going back to try something else. Our server, Forest, was very attentive/helpful without being pushy. The dining room is open and a bit loud for a quiet dinner date but would be good for a group outing.
Morimoto was a pleasant experience my first visit, however
Morimoto was a pleasant experience my first visit, however the second time around did not exactly hold up to the same standard. My husband and I had 8 pm reservation for dinner on a Friday to celebrate our anniversary. We expected things to be busy but not as slow as it had gone. The restaurant was loud but still had empty tables which meant we would not have to wait long to be seated. We arrived at 8 pm and were seated immediately, our waters followed minutes after. Drinks took about 20 minutes to get to us, and by 8:45 we finally received our appetizers. This time we had ordered the hot stone wagyu and hamachi tartare. After the long wait for our appetizers, which were delicious but obviously small portions, we were ready for our main entrees. By around 9:20 our seafood toban yaki finally arrived to the table. To be clear, the restaurant was busy as it is expected on a Friday night, but the wait felt quite extensive. We opted for dessert and had the fiery chocolate. This was the biggest disappointment. As we went in for our first bite we were met with what tasted like rubbing alcohol, causing us to spit out our dessert. The last time we had enjoyed this tasty dessert, but this time, it seemed as though someone had carelessly drowned the brownie bites in alcohol instead of moderately flavoring it. The entire dessert was hard to eat, being a waste of money. As always, the staff is helpful and informative. The meal itself pricey, not matching the fine dining experience it did our first visit. It could be that this place loses its wow factor after the first visit, or that we came on a bad day. I'm optimistic that maybe in the future another visit will be better.
Food was very good.
Our favorites were the sushi, hot stone, and hamachi. The fiery chocolate was great for show but if you're looking for taste go with one of the other dessert options. Service was good and the place itself is cool - almost like a modern art museum. Only negative was that we had to wait 15 min despite having a reservation. Great spot for date night.
Went here for a special occasion.
The food was amazing! I'm a vegetarian and they had many things that I could eat. It's such a beautiful restaurant. And some of the meals are made at the table by a very attentive staff! Can't wait to go here again!
What can I say.
.... I'd rather be speechless. Morimoto, Iron Chef, this restaurant was a life list. And it made my dream come true!!!! My fiancé surprised me here with a late night dinner reservation after a show. With it being so late (9:30pm on a Saturday), we did not for a second feel rushed or not invited to enjoy our table as long as we wanted. Walked in, was happily greeted and escorted to a high table. Ok- and the details here. Ambiance, so funky and fun! You can get hypnotized by the light changing booths. It's quite intimate in how large the restaurant is. And back to the details- I swear, this was The Most comfortable chair I've sat in for dinner. Lololol, commented on it multiple times during our meal. Beyond chairs- The meal........ THE MEAL!!!!! (I had to take a moment in memory before writing again, ahhhhhh.) Rock Shrimp appetizer first. No grease, how? So fresh, it melted and almost didn't taste fried but yet crunchy. Insane. Then we life listed again and order the Miyazaki Waygu. And shared the small chef combination sushi. The sushi was beautiful. Fresh, clean. I am obsessed with sushi, so if I have to say- was it the best I've had. No. But incredible. Let's move to the Wagyu. Let me preface this with- I DO NOT eat beef. Ok, I dabble when my fiancé eats a steak, or I make him brisket, but I would never order a beef entree for myself. I tried to steal this whole Wagyu from him!!!! It's not steak- it's heaven. Melts. You barely chew. It's another level of food. And they made it really a luxurious experience in how they brought it out and how our waitress showed us the papers to the cow we were eating. Whoa! And then they were kind enough to treat us with a birthday dessert. This restaurant is a MUST do if you love Asian food. Epic, exquisite, best of Philadelphia, iconic.

First off let me just say what a pretty restaurant! the ambiance, the colors, the sleek futuristic design omg I'm obsessed. Very pricey $$$$ but needless to say it was well worth every penny. The flavors for every course were immaculate and the plating is just the cherry on top. Chefs kiss!
Most of the appeal of this restaurant for me came from
Most of the appeal of this restaurant for me came from sitting at the sushi counter and watching the chef prepare everything. I'm not a huge sashimi fan, but my husband is, and he reported only good things from the seasonal selection. I really enjoyed the rolls that I chose, especially the yellowtail. The star of the show for me though, was the chicken katsu curry. We kept smelling it as it came out of the kitchen and couldn't resist. It was so warm and hearty and flavorful. I would definitely go back just to order that!
Downhill
Aside from the rock shrimp tempura, everything was average or not good. The toro tartar was almost inedible. The drinks were overly sweet and a bit watery. I switched to Prosecco and it was very basic. The sushi was ok but the rolls were very bad and had no flavor. Very disappointing as we have had many great meals here in the past.
Very chic and very popular restaurant. Great experience, food, and ambience.
Very happy I went to Morimoto. Friday night and by 7 o’clock the place was packed. Took my seat at the sushi bar, definitely the best decision to be part of the sushi theater. Teamed up with Andrew, one of the lead waiters, from the very beginning, and that was a wise decision. Andrew spend a lot of time in Japan, so he knows about many of the intricacies of Japanese cuisine. Went right to the Hamachi with jalapeño essence, and the black cod miso. Fabulous dishes. Had a great meal. The restaurant is definitely expensive but I think the quality of the food delivers value. Also, amazing sakè collection, delivered hot and cold.
ALWAYS A GREAT EXPERIENCE!
Amazing place! Food is consitently superb, staff is very attenttive and hospitable, and the ambiance is very cool. We usually go up to the cozy lounge on the second floor. Shout out to Dave Katz who always makes us feel like family and treats us well.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!

I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
