Nobu San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
I visited here again on 07/23/2024 with a party of five.
As with my first visit, this was for a client meeting. Nobu is always good. The food is good, the service is great, the price is high. However, I can't complain about the price, because they are busy anyway. So, if they are getting the business, why should the price be changed? Another excellent visit, in a very convenient location in the Gaslamp district of San Diego.
Nobu San Diego offers great service in a lively location.
Good ambiance and recommended for a top-notch dining experience. Recommended dishes: Edamame Truffle Japanese 7 Spice, Black Cod with Miso, and Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño.
Server was great and so was the food.
The scallops and Jalapeño was the highlight. This is our third time and it has been excellent and new items each time. Dennis
Amazing!
We visited Nobu in mid July for my sister in law’s birthday/ belated wedding celebrations. Having come over for. The UK and having heard mixed reviews I was excited to try for myself and get the full experience. Our server Mason was really knowledgeable and gave us some good recommendations on how we could get the full experience. He was attentive and really professional but made us feel comfortable enough to do our own thing when ordering and deciding on menus. My partner actually doesn’t eat seafood as a rule but due to the gorgeous presentation he couldn’t resist trying! Highlights included the Octopus Nigiri, Spicy Scallop Roll, Black Cod Lettuce and the Prime Rib Toban Yaki. Portions were larger than expected which was a pleasant surprise, everything came well presented and delicious. Mason made sure to keep us topped up on drinks all cocktails were delicious. Great experience and would return and recommend! (Only small complaint is it was pretty cold with the AC but that may be due to there being a lot of raw seafood around!)
Best place ever.
Great service, sushi, black cod. Walking distance in downtown. Nicely decorated. Been several times. Never disappointed.
Service was impeccable, 5/5.
Our waitress, Jane, checked on us multiple times during meal time. She and others explained to us the different Omakase courses. Atmosphere, 4/5. Good separation between tables. Courses were brought out in good timing. It got a bit too noisy toward the end of our meal as I couldn't hear what the waiter was saying. Food, 4/5. Sashimi was fresh and good quality. Black cod miso was delicious. I especially wanted to try this dish because I make this dish at home by following the Nobu recipe. I am not sure the portion is shareable or family style. We ordered a lot of food to make sure that we don't leave still feeling hungry as some people have mentioned. It was an enjoyable meal although a bit pricey.
Decent Food with Mediocre Service and High Prices in a Tired Chain
Food and Bev are good to very good. Service and ambiance do not justify the high price tag (and the price is very high). Nobu reminds me of so many chain restaurants that peaked 5+ years ago and now are sustained by their reputation, but have lost the magic and are no longer innovating or staying fresh. That may not be true for Malibu or other locations....but SD felt way past prime....and in a hotel that is in the same boat (Hard Rock).
If money is no object this place would be a solid four
If money is no object this place would be a solid four stars. Considering value for money, I struggle to give it a two. Food is good. Service is good. Location is good. But why is everything so expensive? Entres are $35 to $55 and they are ala carte. Miso soup is $9. And it comes in the smallest bowl I have ever seen. Be prepared to spend $100 per person for lunch. Expect more like $150 to $200 for dinner.
This is a nice restaurant.
The food was good The food was super pricey for the portions. The server wasn't the friendliest. I drank water and had to drink others waters since the server wasn't refilling my glass. It just wasn't the right energy for celebrating my friends birthday, maybe it's better suited date or just a dinner.
I can get better sushi at the super market! Terrible food.
They used to be amazing, gone downhill!
Love this location close to home.
They have Tanoshi (Happy) Hour which includes some of my favorite dishes and drink at a lower price. I loooooove the Lychee Martini and the Jalapeño Yellowtail. The okra is light and full of flavor. The ambiance is so beautiful with different styles fit for all types of party sizes. This includes a really nice main bar, a beautiful sushi bar, intimate lower tables across from main bar, and traditional tables in the main dining area. The lights are low. Music is in the background. I feel like I'm in my element. Since I like sitting at the bar, it's perfect for me. Every time I'm here the bartenders are great, suuuper attentive, and make the best drinks! This is sushi and service at its finest!
The happy hour menu was worthwhile! Enjoyed the lychee
The happy hour menu was worthwhile! Enjoyed the lychee cocktail and all rolls. Crispy tuna rice was the best! Service was top notch.
George ate Cod and Tuna😂
Nobu, 1st class, incredible food, impeccable service and you haven’t lived if you don’t try Nobu SD. Anybody who give this a 4 STAR or lower, IDIOT! Great job Nobu San Diego!
I'm not sure there is anything unique here.
Nobu is famous for their Miso Black Cod. It's good, but other restaurants also offer it now, and without the $46 price tag. The Yellowtail Jalapeño is also popular, but I have had similar sashimi at other sushi restaurants. The remaining dishes were very plain. The lobster ceviche tasted like a few pieces of lobster and greens haphazardly put together (1 star off). The rolls were flavorless fish with some avocado added (1 star off). The desserts were good, but I could easily get them at a grocery store. My cocktail was also about 1/4 cocktail and 3/4 big ice cubes. For the prices they charge, I was extremely underwhelmed by the quality and flavors. The ambiance is upscale, so maybe it's a good spot to impress a date? The music is on the loud side, so it would be hard to hear your date FYI. So as long as your date has never had sushi and is not deaf of hearing, this might be a good restaurant for you?
What. a. delight. We have never dined at a Nobu before but
What. a. delight. We have never dined at a Nobu before but obviously recognize the name and have heard great things. On a weekend away, we found ourselves a 5 minute stroll from the Hard Rock Hotel where Nobu is located and figured why not. We got there about 15 minutes before they opened with no reservations, hoping to just grab a seat at the bar. There were a few people in front of us waiting to be let in but by the time the doors opened, a long line had formed. We were fortunate to grab the last two seats at the bar. My husband and I both ordered martinis, both were made really well and were delicious. We ordered a few items off of their happy hour menu just for an appetizer before we headed elsewhere for our actual dinner reservation. The quality of the ingredients they use is immediately apparent. The tuna was like butter melting in your mouth and their wasabi was incredible. We were honestly blown away and also mad that we never bothered to visit the Nobu in our own hometown!
Nice atmosphere and the staff are all professional.
The steak was so soft. They should change the name from no bu to yes bu.
Been to Nobu few times and will always want to go back when
Been to Nobu few times and will always want to go back when given a chance. Love sashimi . Foods always fresh and flavorful. Love flavored soju, mix drinks , martinis. Gets a little loud especially in the evenings. Nice and less stimulation on midday . Our server was very attentive, checks on us frequent enough just to make sure orders came in , table not full of empty plates. Parking in downtown is always a challenge. There's an ace parking stricture nearby and street parking.
Came here with my fiancé for a belated Valentine's day
Came here with my fiancé for a belated Valentine's day celebration. Food was good but not worth the price. We have eaten quality fish for much more reasonable prices in the past. Despite good service initially, the waiter spilled an entire plate of soy sauce onto my fiancé's pants while serving another dish. He apologized briefly but we weren't offered anything else aside from a curt "sorry."
Came here for new year's dinner.
It's been years since my last visit, so I was excited to try it out again after all this time. Our group decided to go with a set price per person. We were able to give our waitress a list of items we definitely wanted like the rock shrimp and sashimi, and the chef would figure the rest out. Nearly everything we had was good. The yellowtail jalapeño and rock shrimp were a hit, as was the black cod. The sushi platter was decent and pretty popular amongst my group, but I would have preferred some other items on the menu (like more of the yellowtail). The least favorite was salt and pepper a shrimp, but the hubby liked it! Drinks were tasty and service was good. Overall a pleasant experience.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nobu restaurant in
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Nobu restaurant in San Diego, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The ambiance at Nobu is simply stunning. The sleek and sophisticated decor creates a tranquil and intimate atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. The restaurant's attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the beautifully arranged tables to the soft lighting that sets the mood just right. Each dish is meticulously prepared and beautifully presented, showcasing the chef's creativity and craftsmanship. One of the highlights of my meal was the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno. The delicate slices of yellowtail melted in my in my mouth, and the combination of flavors with the jalapeno and yuzu sauce was a perfect balance of heat and citrus. The Black Cod Miso, another signature dish, was equally impressive. The buttery texture of the cod paired with the sweet miso glaze was a match made in heaven. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about providing an exceptional dining experience. They guided me through the menu, suggesting the best dishes based on my preferences, and made sure that every detail was taken care of. In conclusion, dining at Nobu in San Diego was an absolute delight. The exquisite food, elegant ambiance, and impeccable service make it a must-visit for any food lover. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for an extraordinary dining experience, Nobu will exceed your expectations. I can't wait to return and explore more of their culinary wonders.
Fantastic! Nobu does not disappoint.
The food was excellent, the service was good, the atmosphere was a bit crowded however since the food is excellent, I can look past the atmosphere.
Loved everything about our celebration in the New Year from
Loved everything about our celebration in the New Year from ambiance, drinks AND the food!
Went here for my son's birthday.
The ambiance is nothing special. The decorations and interior facade plate average. Service was ok. Our first server had too many tables and was not attentive enough. Someone else took over and did a much better job the rest of the night. The food is very good, but super expensive. Overall I didn't find the restaurant to be worth the $. I would not go back again.
EPIC
This is a wonderful first date and 10th date spot. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to come and get great food
high quality, innovative, all your nobu favorites
sat at the sushi bar, friendly, can be quick - but no pressure, service attentive, nice vibe and the food/quality -> oh so good.
Date Sushi Night
Fresh food, speedy service. The entire experience at San Diego Nobu was great. My wife and I usually travel to Malibu for Nobu however I think we may have a new sushi spot. The hot dishes were tasty and the drinks (martinis) complemented everything well. We never had to look for out waitress when we were ready to order more or even get more water. The service and food are top tier.
Don’t come hungry… you’ll leave broke.
I enjoy good food and have no problem paying for it. But Nobu was downright insulting. The food was exquisite. No argument. But $46 for two bites of fish? Three if cut really miniscule. We had two appetizers (if you can call 10 pieces of edamame an appetizer) and two main courses, and after dinner went elsewhere to supplement with fish tacos because we were still hungry. The portion size is simply outrageous for the price. It’s not a question of if I can afford it or not- there’s absolutely no justification for these miniature portion sizes at these prices.
