I'm sorry, but for $700 for their Omakasa, women should NOT be given smaller portions unless the price is also adjusted. DOES NOT DESERVE 2 MICHELIN STARS!!!!
Be the first to ReplySushi Noz is incredible.
It is one of the best sushiya's we have ever been to. When you step in you feel as if you have been transported to Tokyo. We went on a Saturday night, with a meal that ran about 2 1/2 hours (note that Noz himself is not there on Saturday nights). Each piece of nigiri melted in our mouths. The meal starts off with 5 Otsumamai Courses; Pink Snapper - very good. Baby Bluefin Tuna - this is hay smoked and one of the standouts of the meal. Ice Fish & Bottarga - never had ice fish before, it's lightly deep fried and delicious. Belt Fish - another piece of fish I haven't had before, very good. Too Neck Clam - this was served like a risotto dish, standout. After Ostumamai the sushi follow, they dry age the fish for several days, and each piece was delicious (I'll note what were the standouts) Squid - standout Pen Shell Clam Striped Shrimp - standout Mackerel Wild Yellotail Lean Tun - standout Medium Fatty Tuna - standout Fatty Tuna - standout Uni - standout, haven't had uni this good since a visit to Tokyo. Blowfish egg & Caviar - standout Sea Eel - standout Tomago - standout Miso Soup Dessert was Hokkaido milk ice cream, black sugar, kinako powder. Very good. The service is exactly what you would expect from this type of establishment - Phenomenal. As incredible as Sushi Noz is it's also incredibly expensive. They require payment up front when booking the reservation and this does not include tip or beverage costs. Sushi Noz is incredible.

I got the small sashimi box for takeout because I wanted to try the best, having eaten much sushi, and Sushi Noz came through. The Wasabi, soy sauce, sushi rice, and of course fish were of top quality. However, I'm compelled to say that I paid not very much for what I got because of a combination of deals. I don't think the quality, good as it is, is so far above other places like Sushi 35 West to justify the price. The best I've had, but by a slim margin.
Be the first to ReplyVery good meal.
Had chance to try two pieces of sushi/fish I've never had before. Head chef was friendly but not overly chatty. Was the $600 so much better than other $3-400 omakase in NYC? If you value trying new fish, yes. For me, it wasn't. In summary, delicious meal. But I wouldn't go back unless someone else was footing bill.

We dined at Sushi Noz, and it was a very mediocre boring place to be honest. Omakase wise, nothing particularly bad but nothing particularly good either. But if you are confident to ask customers to pay over $550, it should be memorable with at least one or two exceptional pieces at least. The vibe was very dry and a bit awkward because the chefs were silent the whole time (he explained for each course but you know what I mean...), and that made the dining experience very awkward. Service was OK, but in general, no one was friendly at Sushi Noz. Employees generally seemed very cold, and the manager definitely had an attitude. There are so many good sushi places in NYC like Yoshino (it's the BEST quality in NYC, in my opinion, and the vibe is much more fun and explanatory throughout the courses!). So if I were you, I wouldn't waste my money and time by going to the place that serves you very mediocre food (especially for the price) and not giving you a pleasant experience.

Up until the halfway point of the meal, I kept waiting for the surprise dish - every dish was exactly what I'd expect to see at a Michelin-starred omakase. There were few surprises, white fish, followed by tuna... great rice... a conversational chef struggling with a quiet crowd... quiet service filling my sparkling water and making sure I don't want sake... Everything I expect. And then the weird stuff started coming out. I want to be surprised at a meal, and fugu (blowfish) eggs followed by an ankimo (monkfish liver) handroll - you got me. Five stars for you. Expect to be surprised.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time at Sushi Nozomu as I took my wife for her 40th
First time at Sushi Nozomu as I took my wife for her 40th bday. Chef Noz and his staff couldn't be more friendly and welcoming. They helped make my wife's experience absolutely one to remember. From the moment we walked in, we felt as if we were in Japan. The atmosphere was so intimate and yet simple. Chef was so engaging with us from beginning to end. On to what brought us, the food. My wife and I have been to a number of Michelin level experiences so we were expecting a level of quality that Sushi Noz was able to fulfill. The ingredients were so fresh, rich, flavorful, combinations of complex and simplicity. The shari (sushi rice) was truly the best we've ever had. The temperature, the flavor, the texture. You could taste each grain of rice and honestly, I could eat it by itself it was so good. The otsumami was SUPERB. My goodness. The perfect use of both black and white truffle, crab, fish, cod egg (first time having this and it was fantastic), bonito (my favorite of the evening), and more. The Nigiri included Squid, Toro, Uni, Scallop, Snapper, etc. Most of the nigiri was fantastic, a few pieces weren't. It must've been a poor cut of the fish but the flavor was great. The last few dishes included Uni Risotto with I believe flounder (fantastic) and then Inari which was my least favorite dish of the night. I am not a tofu fan, and I really didn't enjoy the spongy texture but others who have had it said it's incredible so I assume this just comes down to my own preference than the Chef / item itself. My wife also had the premium sake pairing which she raved about. Overall, we had an incredible experience and do not regret spending what we did. We would most definitely come back next time we're in New York.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday dinner with my partner, served by Chef Yudai
Birthday dinner with my partner, served by Chef Yudai Shibata and supported by Service Director Megumi Fitzpatrick, they provided an outstanding experience that was worth every penny! I am generally not a fan of uni but this is the first time it was not only tolerable, i actually found it to be good! Every course was incredibly well thought out and executed, even the preparation of the rice and house made soy sauce gave every item that extra little oomf to put it above other Michelin star omakaze experiences I've had. The atmosphere was intimate and quiet, which made all of us a bit nervous to speak or make noise but we were encouraged to chat by the chef who was friendly and engaging which helped break the ice enough to get things started. The combination of the food quality, service, and atmosphere, resulted in an intimate and exquisite dining experience. Thank you for a wonderful time, we will most certainly be back

Loved the experience! The sushi was delicious, though came at a very heavy price tag (as did the tea and sake - a glass of sake and a teapot were each around $19 at the cheapest). We were in a small room seated for 6 and unfortunately, we were the only ones on time. The next party didn't arrive until 30-40 minutes after the reservation start time and the chef wouldn't start until they arrived, which was frustrating bc we rushed to get there on time and also had somewhere to be after dinner. The last couple didn't arrive until about an hour late but luckily we didn't have to wait for them. That was my only gripe - wish they had started on time and not punished us for others' inability to follow the rules but over all, loved the food and experience!
Be the first to ReplyI thought the food was excellent with great service.
Ambiance was okay as the space was a bit tight. As good as the food was, I think it's still hard to justify the price.

Finally get to try it but unfortunatly nozo wasnt there. So didnt expect the vibe to be as positive and i was right. Tension, precision & super seriousnoz is felt. I cant even smile felt like my head was gonna get chopped off. So be it, let see what noz created without his presence....which is not much. 1st off~Nigiris, squid, mackerel, tuna, vein in toro. Uni. Hokai Scallop. Etc...boring...but executed perfectly. 2ndly. OtsumamiHate the fried needlefishHate the worst looking otsu ever...bambooHate the top neck clam risotto, another horrific looking otsu.Loved the skewered-grilled sea perch, baby tuna but no onsight show. Baby eel & blowfish egg/caviar was prob the most surprising & uniquezz, but didnt taste like much. Blowfish egg kinda blows. Not impressed with the noz caviar either~get rid of it. I dont understand with nigiris already filled with rice, to have more and more rice otsu's (risotto, blowfish, handroll.) Too much rice prob can fill u up & think u got ur $500'z worth. Sommelier was prob the most enjoyable to watch & listen, if u love to put cherries on top of every cake. Complex, richnezz, refreshing~the taste brings out the season, the sun, the air. the earth, and end with asahi dry..just to let u know u fell from heaven back down to earth. Tamago and ice cream was delish. Now i know go to a restaurant when its on fire ! Dont sit like me and wait till all the freshnezz is gone and all thats left is just another day.

Definitely not worth the $500 per person charge (before drinks and extras)! Terrible service. Mediocre food. Cramped dining room. Do not go!
Be the first to ReplyThis was such an intimate unique and special restaurant
This was such an intimate unique and special restaurant experience. The service felt as if I was sitting tucked away in a small home in Tokyo dining on some delicious seafood. This was incredibly special and I would highly suggest this spot for a special unique dining situation. I've had fish like I've never had before in combinations I didn't even know could exist. The sushi was bar none and I will forever be dreaming of the perfect rice kernels and delectable fish

Chef Nozomu Abe was born in Hokkaido to a family that owned a seafood company and market. This exposed him to ingredients like uni, squid, tuna, salmon roe, and king crab. Chef Noz began his professional cooking career by working as a chef's apprentice at a well known sushi restaurant in Sapporo, near to where he grew up. He then moved to Tokyo, the center of the old Edomae style of fish preparation. There he worked under numerous master sushi chefs, learning how to age and prepare seafoods, until in 2007, Chef Noz moved to New York to bring his Japanese sushi culture to the Americans. After three years at the helm of New York's famous Sushiden restaurant, Chef Noz opened his first high-end sushi bar, Sushi Noz. His was the fairytale rise that every young chef in the world dreams of.Sushi Noz has two rooms, both with sit-down sushi bars, one room offering eight seats, and the other room offering six. The low amount of seats (14 total) keeps the service intimate and personal. Every guest will receive a lot of attention here. The food here is outstanding. The only reason I didn't give Sushi Noz the full five stars that my meal deserved is because the restaurant requires a 48 hour advanced notice to accommodate dietary restrictions (and even then all that they will accommodate is Kosher), but also because the corkage fee is absurdly high, at $120 per bottle. Otherwise, this is a five star place.

Food 10/10With a fine dining experience like this, I have decided to minimize the damage it has done to my wallet and focus on the meal itself because it truly was an amazing experience. From seeing Chef Noz on YouTube to experiencing his omakase in person, I had a beautiful time tasting every piece. Each piece definitely has an emphasis on the freshness of the seafood as well as the uniqueness of the selection. The seasoning was quite light, but because it was not the priority, it was exactly as I preferred. The uni was genuinely the sweetest I have ever tasted in my life, and the sardines were quite a surprise. Each nigiri was beautifully sliced, so delicate and intricate. Chutoro and bonito were two that also stood out to me, and despite there being so many different dishes, each was extremely memorable and added a beautiful touch to the entire menu. Atmosphere 10/10A very clean and cozy space on the UES. Very minimalistic yet elegant, the seating area only has eight seats, so it was a very intimate dining experience. Light wood detailing and bamboo. Perfect lighting, not too bright and harsh, the perfect warm tones.I'm a huge fan of Japanese toilets, so that was a huge plus.Service 10/10Excellent service and recommendations, loved interacting with Chef Noz as well. Thanks for having me!
Be the first to ReplyAt a hefty price tag, expectations are high.
Chef Noz doesn't disappoint, but you just can't help wondering whether the meal commanded the hefty price tag. 4 hot dishes all original and delicious. 3 sashimi that was melt in your mouth 10 sushi that were masterful prepared 1 handroll - standard 2 desserts - milk from Hokkaido was niceEverything was just wonderful. Experience was great.
Be the first to ReplyTruly a great dining experience.
The Market itself is beautiful and such amazing and interesting choices. Also has a gourmet tea maker. Professional service.

Amazing experience and you can tell that Chef Noz puts his heart and soul into every little detail of his restaurant. From the major things you usually would look for at a restaurant like food, drinks, service, and ambiance to the smaller details like decor, table settings, menu print-outs, and interaction, Sushi Noz has really nailed it. Of course at a place of this price point, you can already expect the utmost quality of ingredients used for the food. I loved watching videos and reading about Chef Noz and the entire process he goes through the serve a total of only 16 guests per night. At the end of every night, he contacts his vendor over in Japan to order the next day's fish. As for the courses, there is no doubt you are getting the most fresh items even just from the taste alone. I loved that Chef Noz and his sous chef came around each seat to showcase the fish to us at large. This really added to the personalized experience. The nice ended with a cute bag of complimentary green tea leaves from Chef Noz. Loved my time here and definitely an experience to remember!
Be the first to ReplyBeen to several omakase but nothing stood out like this one.
Everything from service to quality of food was A1. We were also lucky to have a great group of people that dined in which made the experience extra special. We all shared laughs with the chef and several drinks which made it more memorable. Price point definitely isn't cheap but great times. I'd definitely return. Our chef Shigei Sugano aka Michael Jackson is str8 . Request for him and you won't disappoint.
Be the first to ReplyI was really underwhelmed by sushi Noz Ash room.
I really had high expectations and they weren't met. Dressing was unbalanced in at least 3 pieces for me. I was looking forward uni because I love it and I've heard a friend raving about their uni piece and it was def not good.In general the omakase had too many non fish items to justify the high price. I like the space tho it did remind me of Japan. I don't think I can recommend this to any friends.

I've been to Noz several times and each time was a brand new experience for me. Abe San changes his menu on a daily basis, using only the freshest seasonal fish and preparing them in a way to truly manifest the umami and texture of the fish. I do think there are areas of improvement, such as the flavor of the shari is not sour enough for my taste; Abe San incorporates many tuna in the omakase. It would be great to presents more silver fish and white fish...Their dessert is definitely one of the highlights of the meal. Always refreshing and not overwhelming: the perfect way to end the meal.

I'll start with the good: quality / taste/ texture of the fish was overall outstanding. There were several interesting combinations. We did not leave hungry. Now the bad:1) the first 5 pieces had so much wasabi one could barely taste anything else. And I am someone who loves spicy/wasabi. 2) the rice was so wet about 70% of pieces crumbled before making it to our mouths. Even using our fingers wasn't enough to keep the nigiris whole.3) I have an allergy to scallions & garlic. I was served 2 dishes with scallions and garlic *despite reiterating before the meal, then again after the first slip-up*. This is totally unacceptable for an establishment of this standing/price point. We sat in the ash room (the main room was sold out) so perhaps our subpar experience was due to lesser experienced staff in this section of the restaurant.

Worth every cent! What a magnificent atmosphere and splendid service. The quality of ingredients and sushi is something I cannot really describe! Each dish just gets you more excited for the next. Just go.

I've been to lots of high end sushi places and the experience here is among the best. I wasn't able to get into the Hinoki room, but the Ash Table was well above expectations. I could write so much more, but it doesn't cover the experience adequately. The wine and sake pairing was perfect. The fish and rice was outta this world. It's makes all other sushi I've had seem like a different category all together.
