We have heard a lot about Nusr-et and decided to give it a try. Let me start with the goods: service is excellent, there is a dedicated non smoking area in the dining room (I wish this would be the norm in Turkiye), and the place is really nicely decorated and yet simple (very nordic i would say). Indeed for those used to the luxury of american steakhouses it may prove too casual. As for the food, if you are in Ankara and fancy a US style steak or a burger (which admittedly we did not have) this is a very valid option. We had an avocado salad (well structured and nicely dressed with lemon/olive oil), meat sushi (grill thin slices of beef in a rice ball looking like sushi; very original apetizer) and a tomahawk steak for 2 (perfectly cook to medium rare and sliced at the table). Meat is good (i would say grain fed rather than the standard pasture fed typical in Turkey butchers) making it tender and with a milder flavor than grass fed. Only but i would put is that it would be better served in a warm plate or base to avoid getting colder while eating. With three glasses of wine (turkish) all for about $120. Not cheap for Ankara but about half the price of the US cost. We knew the place is famous for its golden experience but gee, prices for steaks with the gold paper are a bit an exaggeration and we passed. Again, a place to visit when you fancy steak and on our side a plan to go back to try the hamburger.
