O-Ku Charleston Reviews
O-Ku has such an amazing interior and ambiance.
We went recently with friends and the food was delicious. I don't eat raw sushi so I was a bit sad to see they had very few cooked rolls but the one I got was amazing. I also HIGHLY recommend the rock shrimp. Each of us got a different dessert and they were all wonderful. The pavlova was my favorite! The textures and flavors were just so well paired.
Wowwww amazing food!!!!! Amazing service!!! Thank you!!!

Went for a birthday dinner and it was delicious! It is family style, which I love because you share everything and don't feel so stuffed. Highly recommended.
Great sushi - I had a salmon roll, followed by a tuna roll.
I had Sake for the first time in decades. I could not taste the flavors of the sake. Prices are okay for happy hour. Decor of Oku is nice. Bartender was decent.
To me, O-Ku is one of the more fun "experiences" on King.
They have great drinks - try the sunrise vodka cocktail if you like spicy and fruity at the same time. The sushi has always been really good as well. We normally get a mix of all types and nothing ever disappoints! I've been for a couple of work dinners as well, so it's great for anything from a dinner with friends to a dinner with clients. I honestly thought I had pics of the beautiful food presentations but I will make sure to get them next time and update this review. Yes, we will definitely be back!

This place is a must! The food, the service, and the staff were all amazing! So many fun and tasty things to try and the drinks were also the best I've had in Charleston!
My second time at Oku was much better than my first
My second time at Oku was much better than my first experience! They definitely made up for it! I got the passion fruit martini with tequila! I do think it was a little dark in the restaurant but the server was so kind and accommodating! The food was also much better! Still a bit pricey but great a second time around! Here's to trying things twice!
Absolutely love this place! We came here for our seven year
Absolutely love this place! We came here for our seven year wedding anniversary and. It did not disappoint! The restaurant called in advance to get some information from us and set up a cute little table overlooking the street. Sam was an excellent server, very attentive and friendly even gave us some tips for local hangouts. Now the food, oh my goodness so delicious. The crudo for an app was outstanding, truffle edamame so yummy! The drinks were all outstanding, I enjoyed the Saketini and the Fig whiskey drink omg delish! Now for food, my wife's rolls were amazing, and my sashimi unbelievably fresh and mouth watering! We also had the lobster which is cooked at the table!!! Just writing this review makes we want the food right now. Such a spectacular sushi place! Cannot wait to come back!!!!
I felt a challenge when arriving to Charleston; I was told
I felt a challenge when arriving to Charleston; I was told Charleston had no great sushi and I wanted to see that for myself. O-Ku was another restaurant that added to the evidence that no, Charleston has a solid sushi scene if one knows where to look. O-Ku is an open restaurant mixing minimalism with bold, bright statement pieces. They have a sushi bar in the far back and an alcohol bar in the front. Happy hour is a popular time here and the time when the prices are more affordable. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. The food, tho, is very good. The salmon and lemon roll was light and bright. The nigiri - salmon and tuna in my case - were delicious if not entirely traditionally prepared. The pavlova was amazing. It is so rare to see a pavlova on any menu! The service was adequate. The bartender seemed a bit under the weather and they were very busy. She kept moving even though it looked as though she just could use a nap. I am glad I came here and was able to experience this restaurant.
O-Ku is the best place to eat sushi in charleston hands
O-Ku is the best place to eat sushi in charleston hands down..... They have top tier managers and one of the best waiting staff i have had the pleasure of dining with... This place goes over the top to provide outstanding service outside of the sushi the Tobanyaki, Hakozushi, Hot plates are all stellar and second to none the drinks at the bar and the bartenders know how mix....highly recommend you make this your #1 stop for sushi in CHS.....

the vibes, the vibes, the vibesssss! such a homey and lovely place. this was our first time visiting, based on recommendations from others. the sushi / food was great as well as the staff and atmosphere. reservations are a must.
Gorgeous restaurant, excellent Japanese food.
Couldn’t have chosen a better place for my birthday dinner. Gorgeous restaurant with a warm, modern-industrial vibe. The sushi and rolls were excellent and inventive, and the service above & beyond. Sam, our helpful waiter, and Kimball, the restaurant’s engaging manager, combined to present me with a tasty cake & lit candle for the occasion, along with a white chocolate candy BIRTHDAY sign and a keyring complete with rubber dumpling. A memorable evening. Only wish we lived in Charleston - we’d be there all the time.
The salmon lemon sushi, pork belly entree and dumplings
The salmon lemon sushi, pork belly entree and dumplings were amazing!! Along with the Basil Berry Lemonade which is my favorite drink on their menu. My only complaint is that happy hour is only M-W and not Thursday, we made reservations at 5:30 just to get there for happy hour but that's obviously our mistake. I think the value of the food is more worth it during happy hour especially for sushi, appetizers and drinks. But nonetheless there was great service, a peaceful atmosphere and I had an amazing dinner.

I have never seen such a small piece of sushi for such a high price. I ordered Nagari tuna, and it was tiny for eight dollars. I can go to the middle of the desert and get better sushi there.

Bartender, Rachel was the best! She provided great service, and the food was amazing, I recommend that the others come here when visiting. I will definitely return back when in town. Great vibes all around!!
Honestly pretty fire came here with my respectful companion
Honestly pretty fire came here with my respectful companion she had been craving sushi so I got her right. Made sure to get here during happy hour we each got two things of sake she really likes it I don't but I feel like I have to like it especially when I am eating sushi I wasn't even trying to impress my respectful companion because she was already impressed that I can do a wheelie on my bike I more just want to impress myself. To follow up with that, your image of yourself is very important have a good high self esteem you are nice and cool!! Sushi here was baller the potato one was "weird" when I thought about it but "yummy" when I ate it. I had this last night and now I sit on my couch drinking chocolate milk (lactose free) (mostly) and their is this weird dog we are housesitting next to me and to be honest I just heard a toot noise come from my roommates room but he is asleep so I'm confused by that. All that to say, I am really craving more of this sushi right now I'm not sure if they are open but that would be nice just like 3 pieces.
Dined here last night for the first time.
This sushi joint is now one of my new favorites in Charleston SC. The vibe is trendy and the staff were all professional and friendly. I tried some of the novel sushi rolls and was not let down.
Used to live in Atlanta where 4 and 5 star sushi bars are
Used to live in Atlanta where 4 and 5 star sushi bars are everywhere and they absolutely deserve the ratings! Yelp truly let me down with the 4 star rating at O-Ku. Seriously, how does this sushi bar rate a 4??? Either because nobody who has rated the joint knows anything about sushi or it's the best in Charleston!!! Order nigiri and you get one piece on rice that's not great and the piece of sashimi was very small. Don't waste your money!
This was amazing.
I was just in town for work and craving seafood. The ambiance was a cool contemporary modern fusion that I like. Food was delicious. It's a little pricey but worth it!
Mediocre sushi.
Rice was so mushy you cannot feel the rice grains. Very disappointed. Friendly staff though. My husband ordered sashimi combo and said it was average.
Best sushi I've ever had.
Had the Tuna Tataki, firecracker, and Fuego Fiasco rolls. All were amazing. Also had the Tiger & coconut matcha mocktail and it was delicious. Amazing ambiance and super cool staff. Charleston has some amazing restaurants!
Fresh sushi, nice atmosphere
Nice atmosphere. I had a rainbow roll and glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The sushi was fresh and the wine was good. The server (Sam) was very friendly but not very attentive. Overall, it was a good place for sushi.
Fabulous Dinner
What a scrumptious dinner. We needed a break from the heavy Southern fried cooking and this restaurant was perfect. Buzzy and trendy, we had great service throughout our meal. We ordered a variety of food, including the truffle edamame, Black Magic, crispy tuna roll, potato roll, and sashimi platter. My husband loved the sashimi, and I loved all of the dishes, especially the Black Magic roll and the truffle edamame.
Nothing disappointed - perfect!
Flawless execution start to finish, ambiance, hostess, waitress, drinks, apps, entrees, service, food quality, everything awesome!
Great sushi, reasonably priced, excellent service
We made reservations for dinner and arrived early. They seated us promptly and walked us through the menu and let us know everything is served tapas style. We tried the miso, dumplings, and three specialty rolls: playboy, tuna, and potato. Everything tasted excellent and the service was exceptional. We would definitely return here on our next visit. Superb!
Delicious food and friendly staff
The pork dumplings, seaweed salad started our evening perfectly. Followed by the best wings we’ve ever had ! Then sushi rolls that were unique, fresh and so yummy. Thanks to Jared Stanfield, GM, for taking time to chat with us out-of-towners from Delaware. A perfect evening of incredible food, excellent service and camaraderie at Oku in Charleston. We’ll be back !
Happy Hour 5 to 7 pm
Small Serving but we did enjoyed our dinner.. staffs are friendly and service is great. 5 to 7 pm happy our can’t be beat.
Excellent Meal
My son and I managed to grab a couple of chairs at the bar and were treated to a great meal. We started with Edamame and pork dumplings which were both great. We next had the Potato Roll and the Fuego Fiasco. The potato roll is shrimp and avocado wrapped in potato strings and it is fantastic. The Fuego Fiasco was excellent with just the right hint of heat. We finished with the Pork belly lettuce wraps. They are excellent. The service at the bar was spot on. I highly recommend this restaurant. We will be going back.
Amazing dinner
This was an amazing experience. Sushi was fresh. server knowledgeable about ingredients in dishes and great suggestions. We dyed as a family of four, and everyone left happy.
A fab experience
We ordered appetizer - dim sum dumplings were terrific. Three sushi rolls - potato, spicy tuna and one other whose name I can’t remember. All very good. Xavier was an excellent server! Kudos to all the meal.
