The food is excellent.
Great schwarma. But if I may, the mashed potatoes, which have been a special in the past, are hands down the best I've ever had. They should bring these back ASAP.

Takeout was well above expectations! Ordered the kaufta kebab platter with greek salad and everything was excellent. Kebab was cooked to perfection. Meat was tender and had a nice smoky hint. One of the better kebabs that I've had. Pita was delicious as well, and was nice and pillowy as expected. Also, a nice surprise to get a piece of baklava with the meal!

I ordered Soup of the Day it was chicken soup There were real pieces of chicken and noodles, but it was bit over salted . Second dish was Chicken Shawarma Quality of the chicken itself is good. Tomato in the shawarma was unrip. Place is overpriced. The atm terminal was not working.

Good food, good service, the chicken shawarma was on point, good portion size. I chose the hummus and tabbouleh as my sides, fully satisfied.

Two dear friends and colleagues invited me for a quick, late lunch yesterday March 6. We walked 15 blocks, half soaked in the rain, because we wanted a change from our usually spicy Indian food. Upon entry and greeting by the waiter and the boss, we sat down in the back. Unexpectedly, the waiter, perhaps unintentionally, walked up too close, started telling unwanted jokes to answer serious questions, with an ostentatiously made up smile [It's a common between people of Arab decent, but not always welcome]. As he was hurriedly taking our orders with dispersed attention, occasionally turning the menu over to show my friends where/how the items should be read [offensive conduct]. He tried to use a smart watch to communicate with the front cooks, cancelling the orders, then placing them again, giving no attention to our details or preferences. I asked him if he is clear on the orders, to which he replied by trying to repeat them, only to realize he had messed up. He then used a pen and a paper while sitting down at the next table. The order was relatively quick and the food quality was average [salty, overcooked and a mixed grill order included burned scraps of shawarma and one piece of ground beef, for $25.99]. The water is what gets me [they always bring you bottled water so they will add the charge]. The portion/price quality ratio is horrendous [$25 a plate on average for two pieces of meat, the amount of a table spoon of hummus and a kid's menu salad]. The boss was respectful and had happy face in and out. However, I would not recommend this place for a dinning experience! I hope they read this and improve!
Be the first to ReplyLine looked long but it moves very quickly.
I got the Lamb Adana and rice and hummus as my two sides. It was banging, especially with how much hummus they give. They also gave me a full pita on the side with a piece of baklava, I can't wait to go back! Shoutout my man Muhammad for preparing my order so nicely!! (They give sauce too dw)
Be the first to ReplyNice small dining room in the back of the restaurant.
Good service. We went early (5:30pm) on a Monday. It wasn't busy. I got the chicken schwarma plate with eggplant salad and rice. My husband got Kaufta Kabob with fries and hummus. A basket of pita was also served to the table. Chicken schwarma was very tasty - lots of spice and nice and moist. Rice was good and eggplant salad was ok. My husband loved his Kaufta kabob - said it was the best he has had in NY/NJ so far! Fries were also excellent and hummus was spot on. It was also the owner/managers Birthday and staff brought out a nice mango cake and even gave customers small piece which was really nice ( and good!). Also, the service was super friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back!
Be the first to ReplyBest Shawarma we have ever had by far.
Terrific falafel pita sandwich. Great sauces and greek salad. Very friendly service. With some tables in the back. Highly recommend. And centrally located on E. 55th.
Be the first to ReplyJust an excellent meal here.
The kafta kabob was one of the best I've had, just loaded with flavor. The hummus was outstanding, creamy, great flavor. And the fries were perfection. This was a great find.
Be the first to ReplyLove Omar's for lunch.
The platters always so big and even tho the lines are super long, they know how to get people in and out of there. Their garlic sauce is heavenly and the little balaclava is something I always look forward too. Always have leftovers for dinner

AMAZING food is all I can say! The servings are really hefty too. I will be back over and over and over again.
Be the first to ReplyI had lunch delivered for the 1st time from this location.
The food was excellent. Real mediterranean flavors. They even added a baklava! It's in the little details where the memorable experiences are made.

I've been coming by this place for some time for lunch , depends on the day we either come in & sit down or order to go. They are better at the sit down since u are right there so far every time we have ordered the food was not ready by pick up time they will prep while u are there waiting. Good lunch combos , Chicken Shawarma & Kabob both good very flavorful the meat. The Lamb Adana is also pretty good. Sides usually go for Greek or mix green salad both good. The Hummus is very tasty & they give u a lot. So is the Babaganoush. Pricey Lunch combos at $19.99 w 2 sides not the cheapest but doable once in a while. Glad that after the fire they opened up again, decent lunch option in the area.
Be the first to ReplyFood was quick and delicious.
Service was excellent and friendly. Perfect place for lunch. Nice little dining room in the back or you can take out. Lunch included a perfectly sized delicious baklava.

I've never dined in at Omar's but absolutely LOVE their sandwiches for lunch. Their white sauce and hot sauce is amazing. The pita sandwich with chicken shawarma leaves you full all day. They don't skimp out on meat, lettuce, or tomatoes. It's my favorite midtown lunch!!! Honestly a little pricy but so worth it..

I was starving in midtown and the garage attendant recommended Omar's. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Sometimes you walk into a local restaurant and can feel the pride of ownership. Omar's served delicious chicken shawarma, hummus and hot and fluffy pita bread. The staff member --Angelica-helping diners in the back was also excellent.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is very fresh and flavorful.
The falafel has a nice crisp coating but isn't too crunchy. The tabouli salad is refreshing and the eggplant side dish has excellent umami. Typically, I get my plates to-go but the service I've seen has always been top notch. The midtown location has a peaceful and clean interior.

The food was delicious and plentiful. Good value. Great food. The red sauce is super spicy. The garlic sauce has a nice garlic balance. The Mediterranean rice has a nice spice blend. Fries are more like fried potatoes not traditional French fries, delicious either way.

DELICIOUS food and even better hospitality from the employees and owners! Genuine good people running a family business. Support this place!!
Be the first to ReplyOmar's is one of our favorite places to grab lunch at work.
Be it takeout or catering, the portions are generous and the ingredients are fresh. The chicken shawarma platter could be two meals or indulge and deal with the food coma by booking a nap meeting!
Be the first to ReplySo darn good.
I've never eaten in, only takeout/delivery. I only have positive things to say: - big portions- everything is seasoned so well... the meats, falafel, rice, and even the sauces - well priced - food is made quick but tastes very fresh I used to come here a lot and then forgot during Covid but adding back to my weekly rotation, prob one of the best Mediterranean spots in the neighborhood!!

The chicken shawarma platter was packed with immensely flavors in every item that was on that platter. The chicken was very yummy and falafels also tasty. The platter is quite big and they serve you a good amount of food. The order comes with complimentary pita bread that was brought the food all together. Make sure to grab their sauces. They had three different sauces on the tables. The spicy one was my favorite that was added on the chicken. The menu is simple and not hard to order at all. The staff is helpful in explaining what can go on the platter. The service is great!

We've passed this place s many times but had a good Turkish restaurant right around the corner - now closed permanently . ย So we decided to try Omar's (good Yelp reviews) on our way home from Macy's Flower Show. ย Ordered online ahead of time to be picked up.Walked in and they said it'll be ready in a few minutes, and kindly invited us to take a seat. ย Place was empty (5pm), so we sat at a table; seems to be more of a takeout place than restaurant, but there are several tables as you walk toward the back, passing the takeout part that's what you see from the street.Anyway, SO worth waiting for, because they cooked our chicken (kabobs for him, Adana for me) right there and then! ย Can't get takeout any fresher than that!We both had chosen the same sides (you get 2 when you order a platter), chickpeas and spinach in tomato sauce, and Turkish eggplant (like a good caponata). ย The hot chickpeas and the cold eggplant salad kinda ran into each other a bit as we carried the whole thing home, but it was still very good. ย Each platter came with a fluffy, warm pita and a container of hot sauce (right up my alley!( and one with tahini sauce (yum, also a favorite). They sell baklava by the piece (& what's a meal "out" without dessert?!) so we each had ordered 1 piece. ย Found 4 instead of 2 in the bag, a sweet surprise!Got home to a nice hot meal, and we ate the salad I'd prepped before we went out after the hot food. ย I had 2 good sized chicken adana patties, so I heroically (hard to not gobble them both up, soo good!) saved 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it for lunch today! They apparently have 3 locations in the City, so check it out! ย We'll definitely come here again and maybe even eat indoors if we get a lull between covid variants.

After almost two years of a pandemic pause, we returned to Omar. Thanks God this unique restaurant survived. The food is as delicious as before and even better. The verity of plant-based food is outstanding and superb. The best hummus in Manhattan. Omar is a master of seasoning meat and his Shawarma and the variety of grilled meat dishes (chicken, meat and lamb) are outstandingly good. Omar's team are outsandingly nice hard working people that love what the do and serve you food with pride and love. ย This is unique.Omar is the best place in Manhattan for this type of Middle Eastern food and made all the people I introduced to Omar's craving his food when they are in this area of town. Highly recommended.
