Meh dining, nice bar
After many years of dining at Pier W for our special occasions we've been quite disappointed with the service in the dining area. The food also is nothing special for the price that they're asking. We do like the bar and now just go for an appetizer and a drink or two. Service in that area is still top notch. The last time we were there, the young man outside the entrance that was doing, I assume, valet service? was slumped over his podium engrossed in his cell phone when we came in and when we left 2 hours later. He never acknowledged or was aware that we existed. Do not recommend this failing restaurant any longer to friends.

We went for a birthday dinner while in Cleveland. The photos of the restaurant looked lovely. We were surprised how old and worn it looked when we got there. I am guessing from the 1980's without any kind of refurbishment since then. We had drinks at the bar. My husband's 12 year old Glenlivet scotch was $22.95!. It was $15.00 at the Marble Room a couple of days before. The Marble Room has a much better atmosphere, bartenders, vibe, and beautiful room. So that was a rip-off at this bedraggled restaurant. Our dinner was OK nothing WOW about it, service was adequate. After we finished our dinner we walked around the dining room and saw another large room with large windows facing the water. It sure would have been nice to have been seated in that room for the birthday dinner instead of by the bar. In hindsight we should have stayed closer to our hotel The Ritz Carlton. This was a longer uber ride than I anticipated. There was nothing special about this restaurant. Food, service, atmosphere all average and way overpriced scotch. Not recommended by us.

Celebrated our anniversary with another couple who are good friends. Seated promptly, our waitress was prompt and friendly. This was our 3rd. visit to Pier W over the years and have never been disappointed!! We all enjoyed our meals, Salmon, Walleye, Scallops, Halibut, all tasted excellent. Outstanding views of Downtown & Lake Erie. IMO top 5 in Cleveland. Well done
Be the first to ReplyGreat food - Horrid service
Went for Sunday brunch today with another couple to celebrate a recent wedding. The service from our server was the absolute worse service we’ve ever had - anywhere. I’ve had better service at Applebees. We tried to flag down who I believe was the manager (the man with the bow tie and ear piece) twice and he had no desire to interact with us. We were there a couple weeks ago for dinner on a Friday and had fantastic service from a different server — Nicholas. He’s the only reason we’d consider giving Pier W another try - but it will be quite a while.

We were invited to join some out-of-town friends here for dinner and I was excited to go since I had heard so much about Pier W. The experience was wonderful from beginning to end. Service was impeccable. The food fantastic! The setting nearly unmatchable--right on Lake Erie, almost like being on a boat. The atmosphere (piano player was perfect) was just right. We do not eat shellfish, but there were still lots of options on the menu. Desserts and drinks did not dissapoint either. This is a go-to place for special occasions, or when you want to impress!
Be the first to ReplyWill never go back. Not because of food or service but because of manager Mark Kawada
I just moved into Winton Place recently. One of the perks I was looking forward to was the convenience of going downstairs to enjoy Happy Hour which I had not been to in a few years, a cocktail and a bite to eat after work at the Pier W. I was told the first time that they no longer had happy hour because what was the point of charging 1/2 when it was still a lot of money. I have been there 1 day between Monday and Wednesday each week since i moved in. Each time I ordered the same drink. 1 double house vodka and pineapple juice. I have had a different server each time I have been there, and have been charged the exact same amount for the drink each time. Tonight I went down as usual and placed my order. I ordered the burger and the same drink I always get. Instead of between $33 and $38 depending on which appetizer I get the bill was $52.00. For 1 drink and 1 burger. I was charged $22 for the same drink I have been charged $15 for every other time. The person that waited on me has only been there 1 month so I brought it to his attention. He immediately got the manager Mark Kawada. My entire adult life I have been in customer service. The way this man spoke to me was rude and disrespectful and when I told him I was charged $15 in the past he immediately wanted to know who waited on me. I said it was a different person every time. Then he said well XXXX manages the bar so she is the one responsible. He immediately wanted to call her over. I said she was not involved what so ever. He was arrogant, rude and at the end of the day did not offer to adjust the bill or apologize and wanted to chastise his employees. When i said i would never come back he said that was my choice. I am mortified by this experience. This is the complete opposite how I have ever treated all of my customers. Its not the point of $7 more for a single drink but the way he handled it. I unfortunately will never go back. The music atmosphere and servers are awesome so I am truly disappointed. I just hope noone loses their job over this. The fact that everyone charged the same amount tells me there is some kind of misscommunication
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Fried Crispy Walleye
We at dinner last night at Pier W. Our reservation was late and it was still packed when we left. The service was fantastic. The bread was to die for. And my Fried Crispy Walleye was perfect, crispy on the outside but flakey on the inside. We also had a bit of wine and deserts all of which was perfect and lasted little time. I thoroughly enjoyed the time there and of course the added bonus was the view of downtown Cleveland.
Be the first to ReplyGreat views, great food
You can’t beat the view over Lake Erie from the dining room. The food is much better than you’d expect from such an obvious “destination spot” - the dishes don’t break any new culinary ground but they are well made and served with some presentation flourish. Service was friendly and crisp. Overall a great special occasion place.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary and had a wonderful time. The lobster pasta was fabulous and the scallop dish was very tasty! Our server, Samantha, was excellent and added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening.
