Por Kee Eating House is a Chinese restaurant with a casual
Por Kee Eating House is a Chinese restaurant with a casual vibe offering an elaborate menu of live seafood dishes and more. A traditional Chinese New Year dish in Singapore is the Yusheng Salad, made of a host of symbolic ingredients including shredded radish, crushed peanuts, seaweed salad, pickled vegetables, wonton chips, and smoked salmon, all tossed in sesame oil and a sweet dressing. The traditional way of eating this dish is called lo hei, in which diners stand, take chopsticks, and toss the ingredients into the air while sharing wishes for the New Year! The Yusheng was a fun dish to share for the special occasion, but the culinary highlights came next. My favorite dish was the Cereal Prawns, which came with whole, head-on, shell-on prawns fried and covered in a "cereal" mixture, which added a nice crunchy texture and savory, garlicky flavor to the seafood (and went well simply with rice). The Bullfrog with Herbal Soup was a comforting dish of fresh frog legs in a soup made of Chinese herbs; the Champagne Short Rib was a dish of short ribs in a sticky sweet and savory sauce; and the Hot Plate Beancurd was a dish of tofu, ground meat, and egg served in a savory, sticky gravy on a hot plate. All the dishes here were delicious and made of quality ingredients and came together in a delicious, family-style meal!

unfortunately the only thing that i like from por kee eating house 1996 is the 'famous' champagne short rib. the other dishes (braised yee meen and sambal watercress) fell short in terms of taste and wok hei. dont think ill come back soon

An old timer and I've been visiting since I was young with my parents. While standards have changed over the years, it's always a choice when I'm at Tiong Bahru. No frills and fuss free zichar. Plenty of parking. Fair prices. Rustic vibe due to its location among the old walk ups of Tiong Bahru which has become a really hip place frequented by the expat community.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a double date.
Ambience is not the best for the price. It's quite expensive so you'd expect the ambience to be better. Basically this is an air conditioned zi char place. Their main draw is the live fish. The live fish was so fresh and cooked to perfection. However it was also expensive at $8 per 100g and our fish was large so it was $88. Their "signature" pork ribs were very dry and fatty and my friends felt sick after eating. I ate very little so I was the only one who didn't feel ill. The other dishes were good but standard, nothing special. The whole meal was $220 for 4 people, really expensive for the ambience and food. The restaurant isn't decorated or pretty. Tea is $2 btw but it's refillable. The napkins are free. I would still recommend Dian xiao er, pu tien and the other famous Chinese restaurants if you want good ambience and food.

This is the first restaurant we went to since it's walking distance from WANGZ Hotel. The food was good. It was busy so we figured everyone like this place.

This is the eating place I never miss every time I visit Singapore! Gorgeous n yummy! The best overall rating! All the sea food are delicious and definitely fresh! The thai fish, spare ribs are my regular order. Not the best cosy place but acceptable! The pickles are old fashioned but so yummy. Service is excellent! Friendly and efficient! Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely a good place to invite your guests here for meal.
I think so much better than those super overrated seafood restaurants in town. Food is not bad as well; waitress is very pro-active, but the order captain seem in bad mood. He only answered me with this is good or No we don't have. Lol......
Be the first to ReplyThis a great food establishment as the staff and servers
This a great food establishment as the staff and servers were very kind and caring. The only exception was that this food establishment is very crowded suing the peak hours like lunch and dinner. Now let's talk about the food, the food was very flavorful and they had a great variety of food in different sizes. We intentionally wanted to order a medium fried rice but the server told us that the small one was enough to fill three people indeed she was right! I'm fact I assume it was more food to feed three people! This place is very recommended by all of my friends. I hope that this review would help you!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food with great variety.
This restaurant was always crowded with good reason. We didn't try any of the dishes with live frogs but the dishes we did try were exceptional!
Be the first to ReplyPor Kee is one of those feel good family Tzchar restaurants.
Good food, nice outdoors ambience, and overall a good time. My family has been coming here for many years and quality is still consistent!
