I got a gift card for Porto in September 2023.
It's April 2024, and they are still closed. Apparently they are galavanting in Europe discovering new recipes. How pretentious.
Be the first to ReplyI had the tasting menu here and it didn't disappoint.
Seafood dishes were truly unique and on point. Wine selection is incredible. Service was incredible. Each dish was brought out and introduced by a different member of their kitchen staff. A memorable evening to say the least!
Be the first to ReplyThis was the worst most expensive meal I've ever had.
The day after our meal my boyfriend and I broke up. Eddie, our server was phenomenal though. Beautiful space though.
Be the first to ReplyI definitely do not recommend this place to anyone .
By far the worst Michelin Start restaurant that I have ever been so far. I consider myself a foodie person and I was very disappoint by the unsuccessful service and the quality of the food. From the button of my hard do not pick this restaurant if you are in Chicago and you want to enjoy a Michelin start restaurant. its not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous space.
The service staff was thorough and kind. The food was underwhelming and I wrote to the management about the very expensive steak we had hoping to shed light on our experience (it was undercooked, VERY chewy, impossible to cut through and Just overall not bland. I was hoping to at least get a message back but nothing and that was months ago). It's disappointing to have spent so much money on a dinner that was so poorly cooked and for a management team to care so little about their customers experience.

I thought having a Michelin star meant something, but this spot did not live up to expectations. Our server was unprofessional and referred to another table of adults as "kids" he had to check in on. When setting down one of the courses, the food fell on its side and he used his fingers/hands to try and fix it. He ended up taking it back to the kitchen but it was gross seeing him handle our food the way he did. The general consensus of our table was that most of the food was too salty. The plating of the food could use a little work in my opinion. Heads up, this place also charges a 3.5% fee for using a credit card. Spent $560 for a party of 3 and left very disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyI don't understand why this place has a Michelin star.
The service is bizarrely slow even though the place is always empty. The food is fine but nothing special, and yet it's extremely overpriced. They have a $100 "tasting menu" that isn't intended to cover, you know, an actual meal. It's intended to be "several bites" that you supplement with at least another $70 entree. They charge $30 for three ounces of octopus. The restaurant is beautifully decorated though.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, great ambiance, but for the price the food
Great service, great ambiance, but for the price the food was a bit lackluster and bland. However, the selection of wine was very good.
Be the first to ReplyFood is good but for the price you should be hitting out of
Food is good but for the price you should be hitting out of the park as it's about 2x the price of a comparable restaurant with similar stuff. Food is a riff on Portuguese and Catalan cuisine but everything was dumbed down like they were afraid of big fishy flavors or messy food. Service was awful, had an awkward waitress that would hover and stare without saying anything. We'd ask questions and she's smile and just not really have substantive answers. No idea how this got a Michelin star but I bet they lose it or close. There's no reason to return after trying it once.
Be the first to ReplyThe evening started awkwardly.
The big green chairs are awkward. They were pulled out for us but very difficult to scoot back in yourself. Ordered cava aperitifs that were forgotten. While waiting a second server came over to check on us and gave us conflicting allergy substitution info. Food was good but too much effort on dramatic plating. Freeze dried fish skeleton plate and moss covered log etc. The kick in the nits was a 3.5% credit card fee. This place is not deserving of a Michelin star. Should have read the yelp reviews first.
Be the first to ReplyI had been researching a place to spend my birthday solo
I had been researching a place to spend my birthday solo for weeks. I found this place, my expectations were very much exceeded. Obviously the food is EXCEPTIONAL. My favorite meal ever was in Porto, 2009, that was the draw for me.Ambiance- gorgeous Food- too delicious Service- perfection Graham was my server, I wanted to chill and he felt my vibe, respected it. The food runner gal was sooo professional, so knowledgeable, so confident. Chef Johnny came by at the end to wish me a happy birthday (girls, he's hot AF.)I have nothing but great things to say about this place, the food speaks for itself, but the staff is amazing!!!

As soon as we walked into the beautifully designed restaurant the amazing experience began. Graham, our main server was exceptional from the start. He explained the concept of the the restaurant and we decided to have the Porto Philosophy 7 course tasting menu. This is to get a glimpse of the chefs homage to the fishing villages in Portugal. Holy smokes! This food journey was so exceptional that we could not decide which bite was our favorite. So beautifully thoughtful in presentation and taste. All the staff were so lovely and I wish I lived in Chicago so that I can come back again soon. If you are looking for an elevated and unique dining experience look no further.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful place, excellent service, delicious food! However
Beautiful place, excellent service, delicious food! However I left STARVING! And after a $300 bill, that's a little disappointing. (Note: For reference, the only thing I ever order at Mcdonald's is a Happy Meal. In general, it never takes much food to fill me up.) I went to Porto with a girlfriend, directly after work. We each had two glasses of wine, shared about six small plates and two desserts. When you share the small plates at Porto (with 1 person), you're only going to get a fork-full of food each, maybe two (Except when you order the half dozen of oysters- which were my favorite). So if you want a beautiful, delicious, dining Experience (and have money to burn) I highly recommend Porto! However, if you want a delicious & Satisfying meal & expect to get what you pay for- I would recommend trying somewhere else.

Outrageous prices, with a credit card surcharge on top of it!?Trust the reviews. We didn't. To our detriment. Ambience - very lovely space, for sure. Tons of rugs underfoot make the space feel super cosy.Service - very obsequious. The way they described the dishes was just so cringe. Food - hit or miss (mostly miss). The scallops and squash were lovely. The pulpo was a bit gelatinous on the outside - I wish they had grilled it more. The Dover sole was a tad overcooked and rather bland. The steak was kinda chewy and weirdly tasted of seaweed, which is just a bit jarring. The mashed potatoes that came with it were incredibly salty. The menu is tiny - only 3 choices for the "large" dishes. Price - seriously just ridic. You pay $39 for what is guess is less than an ounce of ham. There is no prep here - it's just 10 pieces of ham, each about the size of a couple of large postage stamps. The wine, ironically, isn't priced crazy, but the food is just nuts. The steak was just an insult at $120. It was barely a $50 steak. The Dover sole is the cheapest "large" dish, at $95. We ordered half the amount the waitress recommended we order, and were left with a $600 tab for 4 people. And to top it all off - THEY ADD A 3.5% SURCHARGE FOR CREDIT CARD PROCESSING. That's just completely bonkers. Avoid at all costs. There are SO MANY better restaurants out there, that don't take their customers for suckers.
Be the first to ReplyThe venue is nice and well made, and feels cozy even
The venue is nice and well made, and feels cozy even sitting at the bar. The service has been very great and attentive, and the servers were very knowledgeable. The best thing about this place is that it has given me an appreciation for shellfish. I love seafood, but every time I've had clams, oysters and the love, I've always left confused at how people could tolerate such a strong unpleasant taste. Seafood should taste OF the sea, not LIKE. Normally shellfish tastes like every cheap beach I've been to as a kid, but this place has shown me what WELL MADE shellfish tastes like. It's like a calm night wave off the coast of the golden coast on the west, and it lingers in your mind for a while. I think I've been to 2 Michelin star restaurants in my life and was ready to write them off if this experience went about the same as the past, but the experience with food I had here really showed me the elegance of fine dining. I will be sure to visit this place again some time in the near future!Update: I would like to add that this is now my favorite restaurant and I will be recommending this place for the years to come. Absolutely amazing work here!!

Porto is a fantastic hidden gem with a chic and exotic ambiance and fresh plates that will transport you to the coast of Portugal with every bite!I recently visited with a group of friends and we had a great time! The staff were so welcoming and offered up some great recommendations like the jamón ibérico, uni toast, beef tartar, pulpo, oysters, and turbot fish. The dishes flowed in and we never felt like we had to wait too long in between plates. The attention to detail in the preparation and presentation of each dish was remarkable, and it was clear that the chef takes great care in their craft. The warm hospitality, stunning decor, and top-notch food make it a perfect spot for a fun and memorable night out. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes soon!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was terrible, everything had this overwhelming
The food was terrible, everything had this overwhelming fishy taste - not in a good way. I felt nauseous by the time I left the restaurant. Our bill was over $400 for a couple cocktails and overall seafood-gone-bad taste in my mouth. We went home and ordered pizza in order to cleanse our palates so to speak. The service was great though and the dining space was beautiful. The only redeeming qualities of this restaurant. I can't believe this place has a Michelin star.

The service was great, the waiter friendly and knowledgeable but it is way overpriced. We came on a wet night and had to sit on our wet coats with our umbrellas beside us as there is no coat rack or cloakroom. If you are over 60, the chairs are quite hard to get in and of. The cocktails are delicious. The food portions are miniscule and verge on pretentious. It was $330.00 for 2 of us and we had to have snacks when we got home. No desire to return, nor could I recommend

Are you kidding me?So this is a vibez restaurant only? Are you kidding me? Food was trying to be upscale Iberian snacks but it missed the whole point. Iberian snacks are fresh and filling. One small plate is one bite. Are you kidding me? The toast was a dried piece of bread that overtook the flavor of whatever was on top of it. The other small plates I already forgot about because it was tasteless and did to satiate me! You call yourself Michelin? Are you kidding me? Finally the main course. A $96 fish came out. Beautiful, maybe this will make up for it. One bite in, no flavor! Are you kidding me? Did they even salt the fish going in? The butter was the only flavor on that fish and I had to over baste it because the fish itself was empty. Are you kidding me? $300 later I'm still hungry and sad. Just go to Portugal for $300 and eat there. It'll be worth it.
Be the first to ReplyI don't know what's they are trying to do here.
I think by waiting a really long time it was to impress us with how good it was. Lot of wait staff but took 45 minutes to get going. Table was nice but thankfully we didn't have to sit at the bar. There were a couple of good dishes but the cost was outrageous.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambience.
Wonderfully plated dishes. Lovely cocktails! As a local I look forward to returning
Be the first to ReplyHmm, I have mixed feelings about Porto.
I'll start with the positives: 1. Such a beautiful interior. I can't get over how pretty the restaurant is, and photos and videos truly don't do it justice. I can tell a lot of thought and planning went into building the perfect ambience. Even the furniture is so beautiful. 2. Plating!! I'm such a sucker for beautiful plates and plating, and Porto does fine food so, so, so well. It was painful to take bites because every plate looked like a literal piece of art. 3. Service. Everyone is incredibly attentive, and you can also see and taste how passionate everyone is about the food that they serve. My friend and I had the pleasure of sitting at the chef's table, and we even spoke to the mastermind behind Porto! The passion really shows, and it makes me feel all the more engrained into the experience. Negatives: 1. The food...is questionable. I understand experimenting and complexity of foods, but I really questioned certain dishes and felt like it wasn't a very consistent experience throughout. I had my favorites and stand outs, but a lot of the dishes felt like misses. Either it was too seafood-y, or it felt like they were trying to make ingredients that aren't normally "high-end" or "fine dining" appear as such. 2. Poor timing. We had to wait a decent amount of time in between courses. I don't think I've ever experienced that before at a preset menu restaurant, and I think they could've done better with timing so that we weren't waiting 10-15+ minutes in between courses. Overall, it was still a nice experience. Their drinks are awesome yet strong, but I'm not sure if I could recommend Porto as a must-try Michelin because I've certainly paid less for a much better experience. It's definitely one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to, and I would probably recommend that you order off the regular menu instead of paying for the prefixed menu.

My wife and I were visiting Chicago for a few days and were very excited to try Porto as she is Portuguese. The waiter from the beginning did say that the food was not necessarily based around the city of Porto but more the Northern Iberian Peninsula. What we didnt realize was that many of the dishes were "conserva" based, which is basically canned food. We did the tasting menu and the best thing I could really say is that is was all fine. Nothing was especially good or bad, a few days later I actually cant really remember any dish specifically.Usually when we do a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant we will also do the wine pairing, however in this case we just ordered a bottle instead. This might come across a such minor complaint, but not once during the course of the meal did the server or sommelier pour our wine. Normally I wouldnt care less about this, but it was symptomatic of the service for most of the night and absolutely not of Michelin Star quality. At one point my wife remarked that there seemed more staff than customers but everyone seemed like they were completely disorganized. We were sitting at the chef counter and there was zero interaction with any chef all night. Our server most of the evening was very obviously not used to working in fine dining restaurants. Someone else served us for our desert course and the difference was night and day. She went to the trouble to talk about the course and the chef etc. I think if she had served us all night our experience would have been completely different, but that being said the food still wasnt fantastic. We came away from there completely shocked that Porto has a Michelin star and would definitely not go back.

The ambiance was lovely, the service was great - but the food was vastly overpriced - $120 for a virtually unseasoned (albeit fresh and well-presented) fish is unacceptable. The ideas and flavor combinations were nice, but not exceptional. Not having the sole on the menu early Friday night - well ok. Some items from the tasting menu were available individually. Desserts were interesting, ice cream flavors unusual. But anytime everything has to be thoroughly explained in order for us to appreciate it (we were an international party of 6 with sophisticated palates), one has to wonder. Adding 3.5% for credit card processing - unacceptable. So overall, it's a no.
Be the first to ReplyThere are so many great things about Porto.
..I'm horrible with remembering the names of the dishes but I have pictures to back it up.Everything here is fresh!!!! The oysters were amazing, in fact I should've order more than 6!!!!The Jamon Ibérico is like butter melting in your mouth always one of my favorites. The octopus my oh my, delicious, flavorful and tender. There was nothing that I did not like. Obviously if you don't like seafood then you might not like this, because all seafood is supposed to have a seafood taste even when seasoned and cooked well which Porto are experts in doing. The presentation is always so beautiful and the hospitality is amazing. Everyone makes you feel like family. Looking forward to going back!
