This was my 3rd trip to Rao's in Los Angeles.
We had a large party, celebrating a graduation. The ambiance was perfect for us, the busy restaurant did not diminish our ability to hold conversations across a round table. The service was terrific, we had enough time to enjoy each course and the entrees appeared fast enough that there was no lull in the conversation. Of course the food was outlandish. The meatball appetizers and the mozzarella with peppers were delicious. Our entrees were spectacular and wine selections were wonderful. I try to visit LA once a year and my annual trip to Rao's is my favorite experience. The Rao's in Miami Beach is equally wonderful, but a little different atmosphere. Both are tops on my list.

Was here for a friend's birthday and really liked the cozy interiors. Friendly staff too and yummy food.

Really great Italian food. Service here was solid and staff here was very accommodating. Iiked how in addition to bread for appetizers they had large cheese crisps as well that you could dip olive oil & vinegar in Also, word is this place is a staple in Hollywood and you get old famous people poppin by here
Be the first to ReplyA throwback to a very special meal.
Where restaurants felt like a neighborhood place. Rao's is (apparently) legendary for their spaghetti sauce. Having been in the game since 1896. I had a wonderful time relaxing in its atmosphere. The place is larger from the inside than it looks on the outside. I got the linguini and clams and WOW was it packed with clams (leftovers today). Also got the stuffed mushrooms. It was flavorful without being bulky. Bread on table and history on the walls. I'm so glad this place exists. The service was incredible, though sometimes a little overdoing things. It's not a complaint but they switch out forks when they think it's been overused. As a street urchin myself, I am perfectly happy with the fork I'd already been assigned. Though, I will say...that service makes you feel REALLY special. And it made my night even more special with someone who also appreciated the service. Well done all!
Be the first to ReplyNever heard of the place until about 6 months ago.
Now that cd been there 4-5 times. Great atmosphere and service was terrific. Has jumped right to the forefront of my favorite Italian restaurants in LA. Maybe my absolute favorite.
Be the first to ReplyOld school NY restaurant from Harlem, red sauce joint.
So I've eaten at their location that they had At Cesar's Palace, but this location is in West Hollywood. On a side street off of Santa Monica Blvd. I love this location outside or inside it's a hip place. So you walk in and you might be welcomed by Jonny Roast beef, no joke . You'll feel like you're in an episode of the Sopranos forgotaboutit ! Ok we started with peas with prosciutto and the meat ball Mommy Mia and a salad. I had the chicken parmigiana and of course it was great I also had the fingerling potatoes , someone had the pasta with Bolognese, I saw someone eating a steak. Ok dessert time of course you're going to get tiramisu so yummy and we got the vanilla and chocolate ice cream balls dipped in chocolate with Cherrys omg ! Service is fine and the decor inside as well as the patio is really something to see. You'll definitely enjoy.

I loved everything about this place! Stuffed mushrooms were the most memorable. They also serve you complimentary bread and my main entree was the shrimp scamp, followed by an ice cream scoop to end the night. Service was the most impeccable I've had in years from the server, to the Italian gentleman walking around checking in on every table in the restaurant! The ambiance is very laid back and relax great for group dinners. I understand why they are popular and have many reviews.

I was looking for a spot to grab dinner last minute and saw that Raos had plenty reservations so Italian it is!!! My rez was for 6:30 but we arrived a few minutes early and got seated right away. The restaurant itself wasn't huge but it did seem to have a fair amount of seating and honestly I think it works well for the ambiance. My server Jerry was awesome and extremely attentive from the jump. We asked for recommendations regarding apps and entrees. For starters we went with Frito Misto and a single meatball. The meatball was solid but I really enjoyed the marinara. The frito misto was delicious and portion wise it was enough for 3 people. For entree I went with Chicken Parmesan and ahglio de olio. The chicken Parmesan was good not great but the noodles were perfect. An all around great dining experience and extremely viable option for Italian food lovers not living in the northeast tri state area. I'm ashamed that it took me this long to try Raos but I can assure you they haven't seen the last of me.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was amazing! Food and drinks were top notch.
Servers were very attentive and fast. I was surprised (in a good way) to find out the price was very reasonable for a fancy Italian restaurant like this. Would come back.

2.5 stars. Ambiance was great, drinks were good but expensive AF; food not so good at all...got the eggplant parm and ragu. $15 to valet + tip; wouldn't go back but the place was hopping.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing restaurant.
To start the hostess was so welcoming and I asked for a different booth and she was so nice and cool about it. Changed our booth and kept it open for as long as we needed at the bar. Bar tender Catherine was awesome with making us the drinks we wanted and our waiter Kevin was awesome. Great old school Italian restaurant with amazing food!

Meatball appetizer is the best ! I highly recommend ordering that everything else is very good. The linguine with clams is good but not where I would crave it again type of dish. Milanese salad was good. Tiramisu was good but not as good as mama Osteria. Ambience is old school Italian vibe. It's a fun place. The food is good. Next time. I would just try some different dishes as well.

...: Thank you everyone on staff our night. Being a chain restaurant my expectations were not that high. We had so much fun. What a great place/ Our food was delicious as we expected but our service was wonderfully old fashioned. Our pre dinner cocktails were excellent! Our server Kevin was spot on and gave us full attention. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and we had many questions. The manager Johnny aka #Jhonnyroastbeef!!! had a great personality .He was checking in on all the tables Veriy involved as a manager.. After talking to him i felt like i was slammed right in the middle of Harlem. This was my girlfriend's 50th Birthday. A memorable dining experience. i've dined at many Michelin Star restaurants . Our service deserves that rating. Thank you we all will be back
Be the first to ReplyIf you're looking for an authentic Italian dining
If you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience with incredible food, this is the place for you! This old school Italian restaurant is a hidden gem that offers some of the best food in town. The stuffed chicken and meatballs were out of this world! The stuffed chicken was unlike anything I've ever tasted before. It was incredibly unique and flavorful, with a perfect blend of spices and herbs that complemented the juicy chicken perfectly. I could eat this dish every day and never get tired of it!And let's not forget about the meatballs - they are still the best in town! They are flavorful and cooked to perfection. The tomato sauce they are served with is a perfect match and makes every bite taste like heaven. The restaurant itself has a cozy, intimate ambiance that makes you feel like you're dining in a traditional Italian home. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they truly go above and beyond to make sure you have a great dining experience.Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Italian food. Everything on the menu is outstanding. Five stars all the way!

We used to wish that we'd one day get one of those notoriously hard-to-get seatings (read: impossible) at Rao's in East Harlem, it hit us: Why not try one closer to home in nearby Hollywood. Well, we finally made our way to the renowned Italian restaurant that's tucked back off of the main drags among the film production shops and rental houses. As soon as we stepped in the door, we were greeted like we were regulars...old friends. Increasingly, the regulars did roll in; servers and staff circulated; and the smell of amazing Italian food wafted throughout the dining room. Our fantastic server, Kevin, started us out with a lemon drop and an Uptown Manhattan. Not only was the bar generous with our pours, but the mixes were perfect. On a 1-10 scale, both of our drinks were 10s. Next came Rao's famous meatballs. In a word: Wow. The meat (beef, pork, veal), breadcrumb, and sauce were superb. (We wish we'd brought some home for later.) Again, 10 out of 10.My wife had the gnocchi -- and requested an arrabbiata sauce substitute -- which she said was "sooo flavorful!" (I finished-off what she brought home in a doggy bag and I can attest to the fact that she made a great choice. It was fresh/flavorful.) My wife gave it a 9 out of 10.I had the fusilli carbonara (at the suggestion of several staff members) and was not disappointed. The pasta was a little undercooked but the sauce was out-of-this-world. Every bite was delightful...so full of taste. I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10.We did splurge and try a couple of their desserts: The missus had the peanut butter pie (6 out of 10...I'd agree; I sampled a few bites and while it was good, we've had better); I had the gelato (which was pretty average - 5/6 out of 10).All in all, it was a phenomenal meal: Great food, terrific drinks and top-notch service. We'll be back.Addendum: Rao's is not cheap or even moderately expensive. That said, we thought it was worth it!

Been to Rao's twice now and it's a family favorite! Love the cozy and classic ambiance along with all the old photos they have throughout the restaurant! Here's everything I ordered: * Milanese salad: good light salad to kick off with * Fritto Misto: a generous platter of fried calamari, shrimp, cod, and zucchini. I highly recommend this for larger parties and/or for seafood lovers. * Penne Allá Vodka: This pasta is creamy deliciousness! * Tiramisu: a crowd favorite! * New York Cheese Cake: Such a tasty and special treat. I think it had some hints of almond in it which gave it a unique twist

Ambiance was great! The food could have been better yet maybe I didn't order the right dishes. Arrive was excellent. A really fun old Hollywood vibe and experience. Mostly regulars and locals here.
Be the first to ReplyI made a reservation about a month ago.
Very impressive with the quality of food and the upbeat service. It was our first time dining at Rao's and it was magnificent. My family had a wonderful time at the restaurant and we can't wait to come back to town just for the meatballs.

Been coming here a few years now, I guess my upcoming reservation got me excited to write a review. Love the old-school Italian-American vibe and the year-round Christmas decorations. Reminds me what it might have been like to eat at the fictional "Louie's" restaurant in the Bronx from the "Godfather".Cool spot for a date night with my wife but tend to come more with my dad a lot and catch up- never rushed it's always " here's the bill but take your time", which I like. Service is always attentive- I tend to like when Noah waits on us but all the servers have been great.Drinks are some of the strongest I've ever had, and they're consistently the same. Grandma's Old Fashioned, Negroni, Manhattan, Expresso Martini, dirty martini all excellent and super-strong. Made the mistake of having 4 drinks here once and that was waaay too many, now I'm good with two.Valet is good/ friendly and reasonably priced for Hollywood. Love when Johhny comes around the table a few times and shoots the breeze.Meatballs are the best in the city - 2 ginormous meatballs are very tasty - must have. Off menu Chicken parm with a side of penne Vodka and a Caesar always hits the spot. Cheesecake and an espresso to cap it off makes for an all-around fantastic meal. Gets crowded later in the night, but never ridiculously loud, sometimes they'll have the game on at the bar. Only wish would be that they add a little more variety to the menu, maybe offer the lasagna and some garlic bread or something like that. They do have some good seasonal options around the holidays.Vegas location in Caesar's Palace closed, so I hope these guys stick around a while, by far my favorite restaurant all around -food , service, ambiance, value, in LA. See you guys Saturday .....
Be the first to ReplyValentine's Dinner at Rao's Hollywood: meatballs, ciabatta
Valentine's Dinner at Rao's Hollywood: meatballs, ciabatta bread, Warsaw mule, pumpkin ravioli, chicken parmesan, rigatoni with bolognese, chocolate ganache cake with graham cracker crust (and other items I can't remember) with chocolate ice cream drizzled with caramel and some cherry glaze on the the plate. This is our 2nd visit here and always great food and service. We also liked that the manager (owner?) came around and greeted everyone. Classic and modern atmosphere too. Loved the modern and vintage black and white photos. And the vintage music was a classy touch too.
Be the first to ReplyI have dietary restrictions and food allergies, so I always
I have dietary restrictions and food allergies, so I always make restaurant selections based on menus available online. We visited last night for Valentine's Day. The ambiance was perfect for the occasion. However, I opened the menu to be disappointed. It was a different menu than what was published online. There was no caprese salad!!! I know that doesn't seem like a big deal, but that's one of my favorite staples at Italian restaurants that is always safe for my dietary restrictions & allergies. I will say the entrée I got was AMAZING. I got the truffle cream gnocchi with asparagus instead of peas. Absolutely stunning. Kevin our server was knowledgeable & friendly. We would love to dive again, but bring back the caprese salad!!!
Be the first to ReplyRao's is my daughters favorite so far and we have been here
Rao's is my daughters favorite so far and we have been here a solid 4 times now. Each time the service has been fantastic. The hostesses are nice and get you seated quickly. We are usually always outside on the patio and have had the same waiters and they have been friendly to myself and my daughter. It is COLD outside though so that's the only downside to me. Came on Valentine's Day and had the special Surf and turf, daughter had a small side of spaghetti, we had bread, the Caesar and the valentines dessert. I the surf and turf was cooked to order and I loved the season on it! Coarse salt and crunchy garlic or something. The lobster was grilled and a little over but I don't mind at all. The Caesar is a classic and well dressed. Spaghetti was cooked to al dente and the sauce was good, on the lighter side. I like the lavash more than the bread but we come hungry so it does the job lol. The dessert was decadent and enough to share. Ambiance is quiet, not stuffy. I love the big guy who always comes around and checks on you. Thank you Rao's for another solid dinner in the books!
Be the first to ReplyThe service was first rate.
The owner was present and cared about our experience. Great good old school Hollywood restaurant traditions being carried forward.
