Red Ash Austin Reviews
Excellent.
I enjoyed the clams and bone marrow. Will definitely go back to try more of their food. I did feel cramped and could hear every conversation to the left and right of me because we were jammed together so that really needs to be remedied.

I came out of retirement for this post! Been active here for a long time, but Covid kinda dampened my spirit to go out... it happens. Went here a bit ago and have been meaning to drop a review so here we go. Food - 9 Atmosphere - 8. It's a little noisy and little smokey, but that means it's busy and they are cooking old school. Not terribly bad things depending on the occasion Service - 11 (out of 10) I have been out a lot in this town and I'm always shouting out Red Ash as the best Italian. I've been to J. Carver too and it's tops. I'm the ultimate stickler when it comes to service and this place blows me away. Oscar was my guy for a long time, but I gotta hand it to Emma, she really throws down! Great recs, great personality, you could tell everyone was having a good time and she was in her element. Don't know if y'all read these or not, but If she's not in charge she needs to be. Or head of training or something. More places in this town could use an asset like her. Keep up the good work everybody!

Waited a year to get a reservation and sadly we were SO disappointed. Food was average at best. Caesar salad was one of the worst I've ever had. Romaine stalks with a barely there dressing topped with Melba toast crackers that they call "croutons". Pastas were dry and nothing special, chicken dish was fine. For the cost $$$$ would not come back here again.

This is my friend's favorite restaurant in Austin and she wanted to treat me for my birthday. The staff all signed a card for me and I got a free dessert! I got the cream-filled doughnuts and chocolate sauce. I ordered the Bishop's Hats and found them pretty good, but the sides are what made me want to come back for more. The corn risotto, crispy Italian bread, and potatoes were DELICIOUS. Our waiter was so attentive, the design of the restaurant is absolutely stunning, and the food portions were decently sized. Highly recommend for a celebration dinner or date night.
The food really yummy 6 start if I could.
Service clean and great. Love the potatoes from here. Just don't love how some of the cooks look dirty, and how the waitresses drink during the job or while closing with the male employees. Armando, a former employee would be involved with all the girls at this establishment while he had a baby on the way. He also sold me and other customers & employees fake jewelry!
Happy to check this Italian restaurant for the first time!
Happy to check this Italian restaurant for the first time! They were closed for months due to a fire in Sept 2023. They are known for their fresh handmade pastas and they also have steak. The pastas we got are all super delicious but the standout for me was the tagliolini with fresh blue crab. It was a perfect mixture of sweet, salty, sour, with a hint of spice. Don't forget dessert! We got tiramisu-I felt that there is too much cream on it, but it was still enjoyable. I was so full that we took it to-go. The server packed it up for us in a container and bag! I like the layout of the space and that I can see the upstairs from below. Great place with delicious food, perfect for a date or a celebration! Make reservations early because only 9 PM options are available until September. (I made a reservation for Red Ash 3 months ago.)

7-8-24 We chose to go to Red Ash for our 34th Anniversary dinner having dined here once before. They were shut down for a bit due to a fire, but reopened and we wanted to try out the reopened restaurant. The restaurant is located in downtown Austin, so parking can be challenging, BUT, Red Ash offers a valet service for its dining guests. We chose to go full experience - appetitizers, main course and of course, dessert. We chose the Pear Salad and Meatballs as a starter, then chose the Osso Bucco Mulanese and Frutti di Mare as our main course, and chose Tiramisu as our dessert. While the food was the star of this experience, our server, Joshua, was absolutely amazing and took very good care of us. The Pear Salad was wonderful - it had a lite dressing that was very refreshing. The meatball was also amazing, and we chose not to finish it all so we could partake in the other courses. Our main courses arrived and they were amazing. The Osso Bucco was so tender, you could pull it off the bone with just a fork. The Frutti di Mare was filled with shrimp and lobster along with what could only be described as homemade pasta - all of which was delicious. And to top it off, we had champagne and tiramisu as our final course. Well, the dining experience was 5 stars. This restaurant is very popular, so reservations are a must. If you are looking for a 5 star experience, definitely give this place a try.
Another visit to Red Ash and another fantastic experience.
Food was outstanding and the service exceptional. Gold standard of a dining experience without question.
One of the best restaurants I've had ever.
I tried dishes that I would normally never even think about (they do come with a price tag) but so worth it. Book wayyyy in advance because this place is insanely good and everyone knows it.
Snagged a last minute reservation on OpenTable at the bar.
Our server/bartender was very nice, helpful when it came to helping my vegan boyfriend find options. He wasn't originally coming with me but my sister couldn't make it. We knew the menu did not denote vegan options so we hoped they would accommodate. The bread can be vegan without the spread they add and olive/oil and balsamic instead. For entree spaghetti with no cheese and the vegetable platter. He wasn't very hungry and only ordered the veggie platter. Listen I know it sounds insane to just order veggies but they actually were very good seasoned well. Not many options for vegans but it is what it is. For myself I ordered the Snapper Crudo, very good & light. The bread with garlic spread was amazing and finished with the Agnolotti Alla Piemontese which had a nice truffle taste. Place was cute interior, very loud and lively.
''One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop...and devote our attention to eating.''
We had a brilliant dinner at Red Ash Italia, starting with roasted vine tomatoes and burrata, followed by red snapper crudo and wood-roasted bone marrow. Though we are men and not rabbits, we shared a caesar salad before diving into handmade pasta and the โCostataโ 50-day dry-aged tomahawk ribeye. The pace of service was well executed; we ate well and somehow did not overindulgeโat least that's what we tell ourselves. This place was booked for the rest of the month long before we thought to make a reservation, but the concierge staff worked their magic. It might be best to plan ahead just in case. Brilliant dinner, will go again. This was a meal that epitomized the words of Luciano Pavarotti when he wrote, "One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating."

Exceptional in every aspect, this establishment truly sets the bar high for dining experience. From the exquisite cuisine to the impeccable service and the captivating ambiance, everything is simply flawless. I am still amazed at how knowledgeable our server was, he's an absolute stud.
Wonder
Best Italian Steakhouse ever. Donโt miss the bone morrow. Chef is wonderful, overseas all food as it prepared and before it is served. Food is fantastic and service is great. A bit loud, but itโs everyone talking about their food. Temporary closed but set to reopen soon, canโt wait. Reservations a must.
I've been there twice (before it closed due to fire).
The food is excellent, and in another environment I would frequent it, especially if it were more accessible-- without reserving a table months in advance. Some of the tables are crammed together making it seem a bit claustrophobic and overcrowded. The noise level is very high, making conversation difficult. And the stench of smoke is pervasive, even out on the street. The service is excellent. The best thing about it is that it is just around the corner from the best cocktail bar in Austin.
The food here was phenomenal.
Came with a large group of coworkers and we all enjoyed our meals and shared appetizers. The wine selection and cocktails were also top notch. The Tagliolini with blue crab was out of this world. It is quite loud and crowded in the dining area, but the atmosphere and decor are fun.
We love this place for a special occasion.
Service is always great and the food is amazing
This place is amazing but so hard to get reservations.
Book early! Everything I had from appetizer, shared meals and dessert was awesome.

I kept hearing about Red Ash and decided to make a reservation and wait the 3 months because of the amazing things people were saying about . Let me say that it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The ambience was classy and romantic and the wood fire grill was fun to watch as the chefs cooked multiple beautiful dishes in it. The drinks and appetizers are a preview of how amazing your meal will be. We got the garlic bread and meatballs, which melted in your mouth. My husband said the filet mignon steaks were "the best he's ever had" and has since compared others to Red Ash and how they don't live up to them. We will definitely be returning. Wait the 3 months... it's SO worth it!
Excellent food and service.
Always enjoy it. Always crowded so make a reservation. Beautiful environment.
Always amazing.
MUST - the tomato's and burrata. This is my favorite thing on the menu hands down. Absolutely incredible. Meatballs as well! So juicy and truthfully the best I've ever had. Everything at red ash is good. You will not go wrong with anything in there menu. Pasta wise - gnocchi is the 1st I'd recommend then rigatoni alla campagnola Espresso martinis are delicious also! Looking forward for them to be back in business!
Great food, always crowded.
Noisy, but fun! It's well-worth the price and the wait! I've been here many times and always had a great dinner!
Best meal in Austin? Absolutely.
Visited on a Thursday night without a reservation, but lucked into a table - highly recommend booking ahead! Started with the hot and crispy country Italian bread, which was good but skippable if you're watching carbs. Red snapper crudo: Incredible! The smoked trout roe and sauce took it to another level. A definite must-order. Thin sliced beef carpaccio: Another must-order, with the horseradish crema providing the perfect kick. Each bite was delicious. Tagliatelle alla bolognese: Freshly made pasta that hits the spot just right! Wild red snapper: A must for fish lovers, with delicious veggies and a fantastic broth. Lamb Shank Braised: The sleeper hit! Fall-off-the-bone lamb, perfectly paired risotto, and a mint gremolata that made it exceptional. Incredible staff, attentive waiter - a definite must-try in Austin!
An amazing experience
We went to Red Ash for dinner It was recommended by a manager at our hotel. From the minute we entered the building we were greeted with a warm smile. Soon thereafter we were guided to our table. Our server Brandy was warm engaging and informative . She provided great info about the menu and made some wonderful suggestions The Barrata with fresh tomatoโs was infused with herbs and balsamic . So fresh and tasty. our entries Halabut and Friti de Mare were both incredible . To cap our meal we had the apple tart . OMG the best we have ever had. This wasnโt a meal . It was an experience . we have visited restaurants all over the world. Red Ash ranks right up there with the best we have been to. If you are going to Austin, make a reservation here. You will be treated to an special evening of culinary delights.
Perfection
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Brandy provided superb service (seriously, request her if you can!) She made excellent recommendations on entrees, sides and wine pairings and was an absolute delight to chat with. The satanโs circus cocktail was amazing! We had the prosciutto and burrata with fig that was delicious. Followed by the fruiti de mare and the halibut with the sweet potatoes on the side. Everything was fantastic but get the sweet potatoes, they will ruin all other sweet potatoes. We had the affogato for dessert which was the perfect finishing touch. We are already planning to make reservations for our daughterโs graduation next May. 100% would recommend!!
So yummy!
Fantastic spot! Every appetizer and meal was spot on. Kinda pricey but worth it. Wish they had a kids menu.
Fantastic Experience!
We were absolutely blown away at how incredible the food was at Red Ash. We were in Austin for a family vacation. Based on the reviews I knew it was going to be good, I didn't have any idea it would be that great. If you're considering this restaurant, just go!
A Must Stop
Great placeโฆwe did not have a reservation and a storm was just about to hit. Hostess found us a table. We had two great meals: bolognese for my wife and blue crab pasta for me. Both were 11 out of 10. We also had a funky calamari dish that seemed to be more kale salad than calamari, but was still good. Waitress was fun and offered spot on suggestions. A must stop!!
The Burrata dish was the best version of this I've ever had.
Amazing.Ambiance and service top notch.

Lots of interesting restaurants in Austin, but always looking for good Italian food and this is one worth trying. Food was very tasty, though service was a tad slow.
Amazing food and drinks.
The staff is top notch. The octopus and bone marrow are a must try!
Red Ash is every bit worth the 2 month reservation backlog
Red Ash is every bit worth the 2 month reservation backlog (dare I say best restaurant in Austin...?) Once you snag a reservation though, be sure to mark your calendar because there is a $50pp charge for no shows. And here's why it's worth it:With its central location right off of Congress and 3rd St, this sprawling two floor modern steampunk paradise makes you feel warm and fuzzy as soon as you enter. The staff are incredibly professional and knowledgeable on the menu & drinks. In terms of food, I'd honestly recommend ordering anything made on the Wood-Grill. There's something about wood-grilled food that really appeals to each of our inner prehistoric humans, and generates a truly inate feeling of satisfaction when eating. The Bone marrow appetizer with the fresh thick cut garlic bread was possibly the best thing I've put in my mouth. We savored every moment of the succulent, toasty marrow served upon two spectacular bones. The octopus a la plancha appetizer was also fresh and saucy but definitely paled in comparison. For our main, we ordered the frutti di mare (usually my fave pasta dish), which only comes in the entree size - good portion for sharing. This pasta was a little bit of a let down as it was not saucy enough and 2/6 of the mussels tasted spoiled. The other pastas did look good, but when I go back to this restaurant, I will be sticking to their specialty of wood-fired items. There is convenient valet parking right outside as street parking is limited in the area. All the staff are very helpful and welcoming. Book your reservation for this experience ASAP!

I'd love to be the person to say this place isn't worth the hype or 3 month wait, but it really, really, really is.
Service fee gouge alert.
Spent 15 minutes on a takeout order only to find a mandatory 20% service charge tacked on at the end. Again, this is takeout. This is deceptive and unethical pricing equivalent to surprise Ticketmaster fees at checkout. If your food pricing doesn't allow you to properly pay your staff, then raise the prices up front. Don't deceive your customers, one of which you just lost.
We just had an amazing birthday dinner for my wife.
The food was outstanding and the service with Henry, Emma and Joel was beyond belief. I cannot give Red Ash a higher recommendation. 5 stars all the way around! Thank you very much!
Brought our family to red ash for dinner.
Overall the food was good, our favorite was the bread and the salad. The server seemed a little rushed and was hard to hear as it was loud inside. Overall the experience was fine I just don't know if it's worth the price. The dessert wasn't great. You can find amazing Italian food in Austin. Don't think we'll ever be back but I'm glad I tried it.

We had reservations for ages to enjoy a Valentine's Day experience. It was worth the wait. Service was impeccable and the casual vibe made our meal so comfortable. Share a salad if you go - they're made for two. Everything was delicious, including dessert!

Katya was absolutely amazing and elegant! My partner and I enjoyed our dinner, probably some of the best Italian (American?) food we have ever had.
Delicious Food!
We went to The Red Ash for dinner to celebrate our son and daughter-in- lawโs anniversary. The service was excellent, and the food was stellar! It was really a treat! The pasta with the home made fennel sausage in a tomato cream sauce was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted! All the dishes we had were above normal and each one tasted amazing! If I have any complaints at all, I found the wine menu to be a bit overpriced. I think their price point for a bottle of wine was higher than other restaurants with the same caliber of food. I am not saying that they should not have expensive wines, I am saying that they should have several bottles of wine that start at a lower price point than $60 for a bottle. There are many great wines that could make the cut in a fine dining establishment that wonโt break the bank. Just my opinion!
It is a simple and beautiful place, the kitchen in the wood
It is a simple and beautiful place, the kitchen in the wood oven caught my attention and also its natural Grill that gives the food a spectacular flavor. I have ordered an Ossobuco with risotto that was very, very spicy for my taste and also very expensive! this Italian food naturally isn't spicy and I know what I don't get in restaurants in Austin. Good beer and garlic bread from the wood oven!
Great food, service and ambience.
Busy place. Made a reservation two months in advance.
Hard to get reservations but great food!
Great food, good service and this place has now risen to the top of a big list of Italian style restaurants that Iโve visited. Please take my advise and book ahead. A must visit.
WOW!!!!
I've been to plenty of Italian restaurants but none like this. Where do I begin... From steak to pasta and fish Rad Ash has it all and is cooked on an open flame or in a wood-fired oven. The Baratta app is awesome with oven-roasted plum tomatoes served on garlic bread. The octopus app has to be the most tender I have ever had. I had the Frutti de Mare entre served with black and regular pasta, assorted shellfish, and a lobster tail on top. I got it fra diavolo and it was excellent and a great portion. Needless to say, it was an excellent meal all eight of us enjoyed every dish. Make a reservation at least weeks in advance. Valet parking is available next door but be advised that they close at 10 p.m. and then according to the attendant you can't get your car until the next day. Loved this place don't miss it!!!
Best Italian in Austin
Went on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. The cocktails were excellent and we could order from the entire menu. The bruschetta and pastas were among the best we've had and the atmosphere was fun and exciting. Will go again in a heartbeat.
Yum yum
My brother made a reservation for my birthday! I have never been before then but him and his girlfriend go quite often. I was already expecting really good food and nice dinning. 10/10 it delivered
Specials
Second time coming this month. Had a special on 1/4/23. SO DELICIOUS AND FLAVORFUL!!! Thank you to our server Kautia for providing a great customer experience
Great food & service
This is the best restaurant Iโve been to anywhere. We had garlic bread, bone-in filet, frutti di mare and potato gnocchi. Everything was 5 Star, absolutely delicious. If you can get a reservation do it. You wonโt be disappointed
Bring Your Appetite....Top Flight Italian Food, Service and Decor
I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. I'm from NYC and have access to great food, but when I go to Austin, Red Ash is a "MUST DINE" location for me and for my family. The food is "AUTHENTICALLY" Italian. It's all made in high intensity flame ovens as well as a wood burning stove. All of the pastas are homemade. The ingredients are locally sourced. The staff is amazing. We've come to know one of the hostesses (Apple) as well as two of the servers (Zach and Eddie). When we arrive, they know who we are and actually remembered out dietary preferences. The cocktails are well prepared in proper glasses....and they have nice local specialty drinks. If I have a single criticism, it's this - "BRING YOUR APPETITE BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO LEAVE FULL". Lastly....make sure you order the Burrata!
Homemade Gluten-Free Pasta
The homemade gluten-free pasta was a nice surprise. This was light, and not grainy. The gelato was quite good. The ambiance was warm, and inviting. This is not a place to go for a quiet meal, as it can be loud. This is definitely a restaurant for special occasions, since the menu is pricey.
