Absolutely Stunning Food and Exceptional Service
My husband and I visited this outstanding and unique restaurant for part of his 50th birthday celebrations. We absolutely loved the experience from start to finish. The service from the staff was by far the best we've ever experienced before. They were so professional and friendly and couldn't have done enough for us. The food is absolutely stunning and like nothing we've ever tasted before. Each course was beautifully presented and explained to us with impressive knowledge and detail. If you're looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or a really fantastic dining experience you can't go wrong here. The decor is outstanding. We didn't have the wine pairing menu as we don't like red wine and the bottle of white we ordered was exquisite and so silky. We'll definitely be back, this is by far our new favourite restaurant. Thank you to all the team for making my hubby's birthday extra special. Can't wait to return.

The pros : perfect service, excellent food, exceptional wine selection, locally sourced products prepared using classic techniques with a twist. Special mention for the delicious hazelnut soufflé, but menu may vary The cons : small table for a party of three
Be the first to ReplySpectacular dinner with the finest service I have ever experienced
I expected amazing food and elegant service when we arrived for dinner during the holiday season but I could not have imagined the absolute perfection achieved over the course of 3 hours. With it’s warm and intimate setting in a Deco style, holding perhaps 10 tables, the scene was set for what turned out to be possibly the best dining experience I’ve ever had. Having dined at a plethora of Michelin starred locations over too many years to reveal, 1890 has been catapulted to the top of my list. It’s homage to Escoffier was evident with a throughly modern adaptation. Of note, the choices in wine pairings were stellar with added drama in the presentation of huge format bottles for several of the courses. The service was the most gracious, attentive, friendly and professional I have encountered surpassing even our previous experience at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay. As I travel with friends, we usually make the dinner reservations 5 minutes after booking the plane. This restaurant made me understand that order needs to be reversed for the next London trip!

Be the first to ReplyThe most wonderful dining experience
My fiance and I enjoyed the most wonderful 9 course tasting menu here in September on a weekend away. The whole experience was amazing, the staff were attentive without being overbearing, so knowledgeable regarding the ingredients, the wine, the dishes as a whole. The food was sublime, I've never had a meal like it in my life! Every dish was a taste sensation and looked so beautiful. A wonderful, luxurious, and intimate dining experience. We hope to return again and would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for something that bit extra special.
Be the first to ReplySupremely wonderful experience
Chose this restaurant to celebrate 25 years together. We very much enjoy tasting menus and this one did not disappoint. Unlike many others we have done, this was a far more traditional approach albeit one with modern flourishes and techniques. Every bite was an exquisite taste and texture. The wine pairings were spot on (who knew white merlot from South Africa?) and the space itself is like stepping back in time. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you for a memorable night.

Wow! Enjoying the 9 course tasting menu at Restaurant 1890 was a most exceptional experience! From the most beautiful golden decor, the wonderfully tactile crockery and exquisitely light glasses and the VIP service... to the most delicious taste sensation that is the food! Not to mention the perfectly paired wines! We were treated like VIPs and enjoyed the whole event and experience that is dining at Restaurant 1890. Thank you to the head chef James and all the team!
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful school reunion.
Absolutely amazing. Extremely attentive staff. Its virtually silver service. The food is exquisite...by far the best taster menu I've ever had. Its hard to choose a favourite but the lobster cornettos were great! The surroundings are fabulous....I love the Deco styling. Its worth the indulgence as its SO memorable. We ended up taking the night bus home....not doing that again! HaHa.
Be the first to ReplyThe best Tasting Menu we have ever had!
New to the London fine dining experience market, this restaurant celebrates the highest level of cooking and presentation. Nine courses all put together by James the amazing Head Chef and his extremely talented team, the balance of flavours, the pure taste for the eyes and the tastebuds was absolutely delicious on all levels. Together with the front of restaurant team, we enjoyed a truly wonderful fine dining experience. I know they are going to try for a Michelin star quite soon, I am 100% certain they will get it....if for some reason they don't, it will be a complete travesty, and I for one will have no faith in Michelin stars going forward. A truly exceptional evening on all levels, thank you.
Be the first to Reply1890 Restaurant - Superb
My husband and I ate in the new 1890 restaurant in The Savoy and it was a fantastic experience with amazing service and food. We couldn’t fault anything. The staff knew every small detail about the food and wine pairings, the dining room although small you didn’t feel like others could hear your conversation and it was very private. Great job Gordon Ramsey and team, this restaurant will be a great success!
Be the first to ReplyABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING
The whole experience was an unexpected delight from start to finish, we cannot praise the staff highly enough for their attentive, fun but ultimately professional service. Every course that was served was fabulous and the kitchen received back completely empty plates from all our our party. It would have been hard to select a favourite course. The wine pairings were unusual yet perfect. We enjoy eating at Michelin starred establishments and have a particular favourite which we are fiercely loyal towards however 1890 matched our favourite and in some places completely exceeded it- this was something that we were not expecting! We will 100% be back, this was truly an experience not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyAn utterly divine dining experience
It is difficult to know where to start this review, other than to say that the entire evening was an utterly divine dining experience. The attentiveness of the staff was superb - neither overbearing or neglectful, but professional, knowledgeable and charming under the ever-watchful eye of the GM, Sarah Rhone. The decor and tableware were stunning and contributed to an intimate and exclusive ambiance. And the food - without exception all nine courses were utterly delicious. The presentation was a lesson in perfection and the depth of flavour in each dish was simply exquisite. Such was the overall sublimity, it is hard to choose a favourite, but the lobster cornetto must rate as one of the most technically perfect dishes I have ever tasted. Compliments to the chef, James Sharp. The finishing touch was a brilliant pairing of champagnes to our taste by the Head Sommelier, Emanuel Pesqueira. Overall, an amazingly talented team providing an utterly divine dining experience in a stunning setting.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing food and service, absolute repeat next time we’re in London
My wife and I were visiting from chicago and everything about our experience was fantastic and we are glad that we got in before the inevitable star(s) arrives! The room itself was nice and intimate, we were lucky to be seated over looking the savoy square so great people watching during the meal! The staff was amazing throughout the service, Ben the sommelier recommended a wine pairing that suited the meal perfectly and with the meal Sarah came over and explained what the concept of the restaurant was about and how dinner would be served. (Don’t want to give too much away as it’s part of the fun) As 1890 doesn’t give a menu to start with the aim being to just enjoy the experience of different food turning up I won’t give too much away but want to make some call outs. The tomato consommé was unbelievable, absolute explosion of flavor that was everything that an amazing tomato should taste like. It came with an accompanying Parker house roll, topped with the most amazing honey. Not too sweet, not too plain, packed full of floral flavors and incredible. It was made by Sarah’s family and unfortunately not available commercially! (The honey was so incredible we ordered more bread just to get more honey) The fish course was the highlight for my wife, the turbot was cooked incredibly with a caviar beurre blanc that was the only thing that could stop us talking about the bread in the previous course. My highlight was the short rib, the meat was tender but too much so and the bordelaise is something that I could have probably just have in a soup bowl and be completely happy. Throughout the meal the wine served by Ben and notes that were given were informative not only about the tasting notes of the wine but some information about the vineyard/terroir and grape varieties which paired nicely with the meal. We did the Discovery wine pairing and we were surprised by a few, the Patrimonio Blanc we thought started with a little “funk” (in a good way I promise) but then ended with a really nice buttery but crisp finish, it made the wine really enjoyable and different. The Tenuta Sette Pondi Podere was a great deep red that paired really well with the meat course. The service of wine was quick but informative and really a conversation about the wine instead of just feeling as though it was being read off a facts sheet. Also Ben offered unbiased opinions on some wines that you had choices between in the fish/meat course pairings. Sarah was amazing throughout the meal always checking in and having a great conversation. The rest of the staff was equally fantastic I just have a terrible memory for names, so thank you to all the team members there on the night we ate, all were amazing. Having dined quite a lot in restaurants of similar caliber you expect the service to be a little uptight and stiff, but this is absolutely not the case at 1890, all the staff were very friendly, very open to conversation about the food/wine/just the day. It was a complete breath of fresh air. I would absolutely recommend 1890 to anyone, food was incredible but the level of service matched it perfectly without being uptight or intimidating.

This intimate restaurant offers a ‘surprise’ menu - 3 canapes, followed by 9 small plates, all cleverly designed so that, even if you are fussy eater (like me), there is nothing to be wary of, or to dislike. The focus is on French classics, made with fresh seasonal ingredients and light sauces. Allow three hours to properly savour the experience. Like the food, the elegant decor and ambience is a homage to hotel’s history and its original celebrity chef (Escoffier). If you prefer, you can ask for a table by the window if you want to watch all the comings and goings of the hotel and adjacent theatre but you might find this distracting. James Sharp (Executive Chef) and several others have transferred from the likes of The Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and Petrus, and their experience shows. All the front of house staff were very approachable and knowledgeable, floating between tables to ensure that all guests had the best dining experience possible. We started with three very different, tasty canapes. The chicken consomme was a light and flavoursome first course. The tomato and pea dish which followed was a fresh palate cleanser. Next was the new season asparagus with a sublime velvety wild garlic Hollandaise sauce (my stand out dish of the night). The turbot was cooked perfectly - soft and still slightly translucent. Whilst not particularly innovative, the tasty short rib melted in the mouth. Next came the comte, one of my favourite cheeses. The rhubarb dessert was lovely and soft and not too sweet or sour. We finished with two petits fours. We opted for the Discovery Wine Pairing, mainly because we were promised some more unusual wines, all of which complimented to food nicely, and very reasonable at £90 for 7 glasses. The printed menu at the ned of the meal is a nice personal memento. I suspect that a Michelin recommendation will not be far away. Thank you to the whole team for a memorable and faultless gourmet experience. We look forward to joining you again in July.

Booked 1890 as a surprise for my partner as we had got engaged just before and I have to say, it was one of the best meals/ experiences we've ever had.
Must say a massive thank you to all the staff first of all, exceptional customer service. I had contacted the restaurant about the engagement prior to arriving and we had champagne once seated, a lovely card that everyone had signed and an extra cake at the end of dessert. Every member of staff was excellent and really friendly, we'd come back just for that reason alone but the food it also out of this world. The fish dish was one of the best things I've ever eaten and the short rib was also up there. We will definitely be back soon!
Unbeatable and Unique
We will remember this experience for a long time, it’s very special and a real treat. What really makes it is the service, the team go out of their way to strike up a rapport with all of the guests and could not be more welcoming and considerate if they tried. Best service by far of the Gordon Ramsay restaurants I’ve been to. The ambience and decor in this restaurant are stunning. Would recommend requesting a table by the window if you fancy spying on the comings and goings of the hotel - we were so impressed by the doormen, I must say! The food looks and tastes amazing. My favourite courses were the beef rib and the orange parfait. The garlic sauce accompanying the asparagus was a standout too. How lovely to have the backstory to the menu. Of course this does not come cheap, however I think many restaurants would charge a lot more for this level of food and general experience and I think it is good value in that respect. Highly, highly recommend!

Great experience, we were received very cordially, the waitress was very worry about our stay and in general all the staff was very friendly.
It was a nice experience, specially about the food, unfortunately the wine list is quite expensive.
Restaurant 1890 - (AMAZING MUST GO TO)
What a fantastic experience we had attending 1890.
The decor inside the restaurant as we entered is something I’ve never quite seen before, absolutely stunning and we were greeted with a smile and taken to our table.
Where to start on the food, it was simply outstanding. I couldn’t have enjoyed every course more if I tried; right from the canapés upon sitting down, to the turbot presented with champagne caviar (best course for me all evening) to the blood orange parfait, everything was absolutely stunning.
The wine was beautiful, Emmanuel the sommelier was so passionate and brought us along on his journey with us with every wine served with every dish. Sarah and Becky (I think - the managers at 1890) were floating between tables all night making sure everyone was comfortable all evening. Their quality of service was exceptional and they work fantastically together as a team. They were very warming to us all night and allowed us to have the best experience possible. Absolute credit to the team at 1890.
Couldn’t fault a single thing on any of the courses, everything was served professionally to the best and highest levels, each dish was presented impeccably and I’ve never received as much information and description upon every course being served to us. The staff are exceptionally talented, you can tell they all understand the meaning of every dish and if you want to ask anything about any course, you will receive a detailed answer to the highest level.
Hands down, I will definitely be going back to 1890 again very soon.
Absolutely marvellous!
What can I say?? Where to start? What a treat!!!
1890 is completely fabulous ! Upon entry, you’re mesmerised by the beautiful decor & heartened by the warmest welcome.
The nine course tasting menu is absolutely delicious , beautifully presented and above all else , VERY exciting! The wine pairing menu is also outstanding and delivered with great panache by both of the sommeliers! Honestly, the food and wine is out of this world and the service we received from every single member of staff was wonderful . They all seem so happy to be looking after you and wanting you to also love what they’re creating there. The General Manager Sarah, ran the entire evening with a quiet confidence and great precision!!!
If you get the opportunity to go, then do so! You won’t regret it!!!
I’m not posting photos because I don’t want to spoil the surprise for all of you who are waiting to go!!! 💕
Potential but plays it to safe
In truth had this restaurant been open for any length of time I would have given it a rating of 3 rather than 4. While there was nothing wrong with the experience, equally there was very little that shone out and announced this restaurant as being anything other than average fine dining in an amazing setting.
The setting is stunning, it has clearly presented some layout issues and the tables by the window being the better options, which we were lucky enough to get, which affords both the chance to look out of the window as well as see the restaurant. If you get a table against the back wall however one person will have the view out of the window and the restaurant, the other essentially looking at the wall, so not ideal but not the end of the world. It should be set the decor and furnishings were superb and such a warm glow, it defiantly felt like you were somewhere special.
The service was friendly and helpful, the sommelier in particular was excellent, he was knowledgeable and approachable and just added a lot to the experience.
Overall service was good although in some ways it did drop as the evening went along.
As you don't get a menu here as its a set tasting menu of 9 courses, they do ask at the start if there is anything that must be avoided due to allergy or dislike, which is tricky without a menu but was handled well. When the courses are served you get a description of what they are and I would say as the evening went along overall it seemed like some staff were getting tired or over the process as details became less and engagement decreased overall, this was not true of the wine pairings and their descriptions, in fact the excellence of this just made the drop off more evident in regards the food service.
In regards the food itself, it would be fair to say the wine was the star of the dinner. The food started off very well, the Chicken Consomme was excellent, both in terms of flavour and presentation.
This was followed by a Jerusalem Artichoke Royale which was probably the most interest course, not what you would expect and a very good balance of flavour and texture.
Other courses were a mix of perfectly ok or not quite right, the Dover sole seemed over cooked, although the sauce with it excellent. The beef was nicely cooked but just a bit dull and certainly didn't feel like it was anything that hasn't been done a 100 times before.
It was actually the desserts that left us more disappointed, the poached quince with the cheese was very nice but there was nothing to cut through or contrast it, the cracker was far to basic and plain, it needed something to set off the flavours. Similar things could be said about the final dessert, lacked any sort of texture and just didn't inspire, nothing overly wrong with it just nothing new, essentially a take on terrys chocolate orange!
With such an amazing space and service that overall was very good, just seeming to run out of energy by the end of the night the restaurant has potential and I am sure as time goes on the menu will evolve and get stronger. It is just a shame that for a restaurant that is meant to celebrate Georges Auguste Escoffier, it seems to have played things to safe and simplified things just a little to far, missing the chance to create something unique form a dining perspective rather than just a setting perspective.
It is still a very enjoyable evening and we would suggest doing a mix of wine pairings, the Discovery Wine Pairing (£90) and the Fine Wine Pairing (£210) as it gives you the chance to fully appreciate the different wines and enjoy the excellent service from the sommelier. For a £650 meal for 2 people however I have to say judged overall it has a long way to go to get close to some of the tasting menus on offer in London, many of which cost a fraction of this. For now it is the location rather than the menu that will be the draw, but given time there is every chance that could change.
A fabulous dining experience in Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramseyl
Had the most wonderful dining experience in restaurant 1890 in the iconic Savoy Hotel. The cuisine was incredible such amazing dishes. Had amazing service the staff very attentive and very informative with each dish we had, lead by GM Sarah Rhone who is very passionate with attention to detail to the running of restaurant 1890. Emanuel knew his wine and what would compliment each course. It’s definitely a restaurant to visit a stunning room just absolutely beautiful, would highly recommend thank you so much a very memorable evening.

I wish I was able to give more than 5 stars! We loved our experence at 1890 from start to finish. We sat by the window and had an amaing view over the entrence to the Savoy Hotel and theatre. Amazing food and wine. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and made the whole night an incredibly special evening to remember.
Be the first to ReplyExclusive, elegant and divine
To begin with the decor and style of the restaurant was outstanding, as soon as you entered you get a Gatsby polished gold feel in a small but spacious room, giving a real exclusive feel to all tables. The staff were absolutely excellent and the description of each dish and wine that paired was unparalleled to that of any other I have experienced.
Each mouthful of every dish was an explosion of taste and textures, the kind that makes you close your eyes every bite and really savour the flavour. My favourite dish was the Aberdeen Angus short rib cooked to perfection, it felt almost as if it would melt in my mouth.
Would highly recommend to anyone and I will definitely be heading back!
Exclusive, small new Carte Blanche restaurant in the iconic Savoy hotel serving amazingly prepared food
We were lucky enough to visit on opening night. The service was polished and well-rehearsed, guests were excellently treated and looked after, food was perfectly executed by James, Roman, and the team—I’ll be back very very soon. I expect at least 1 star in the very near future!
