Riva's is a very special place.
It's unique inside and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. All four of us ordered different meals and were very pleased. You receive everything for one price including bread, salad, soup and your main entree. The drinks we ordered, I just had one but wanted a second, were fantastic and everyone enjoyed their dessert. The staff almost hugged us when we left, but you know, we've been living in a big city too long and did shy away. Ha, ha.

A lot of old-fashioned Italian food produced in an old-school authenticity. No loud music. No posers. Hidden on a side street. Bumping elbows with a dining room doin. People have conversations at Riva's. Seriously. No online reservations best I can tell. Human beings wine and homemade pasta. None of fancy California garbage of the modern American incarnation restaurant of restaurant "status"! Galleria posers need not apply. I wish America was more like tho.

I came by to pick up a phone order , the staff was gracious and hospitable . They even offered to help me carry my food out to the car . The food taste so fresh and delicious. We ordered the chicken parm and the penne crema Rosa with chicken. Each meal came with a soup salad and garlic bread . Excellent value for the amount of food . This will be our new neighborhood Italian spot !

Waiters are nice (if you're white at least, judging by the many negative reviews referring to discrimination and racism) but this place is disgusting. I support LGBT... There are limits to decency though. We went for someone's birthday, and the "surprise" that came to the table was nothing less than disgusting. If you're a straight woman at least, and for most straight men, I'd think. Very visual and not funny at all. Sexual in nature. Trashy. Sleazy. Idk what lesbians think, but to me it was a totally offensive "joke". Threatening even. Made me want to flee and throw up. This place should be shut down.

The service is great as everyone is very friendly and the ambiance is more like a mini club vibe than a restaurant. The food portions are huge but the quality of some dishes are a hit or miss.

I hate to not score this place higher, but I was really disappointed with my experience. I had high expectations from what I've heard and seen online. The only thing that surpassed my expectations were all of the beautiful Christmas decorations- indoors and outdoors! The waitstaff was sweet and sassy which met well with the Montrose vibe. The food is what was truly disappointing. Although the lentil soup was surprisingly good (the texture and flavor were unique for what I would expect an Italian soup to be), it came luke-warm in plastic bowls, and everyone on my table had a different portion. I ordered the grilled chicken piccata which was topped with a decently creamy lemon butter sauce, whole slices of garlic, & capers. Unfortunately, the chicken was hard to cut and hard to chew. The lemon flavor was prominent- a bit too sour, and the dish was cold. It came with a side of alfredo pasta, however again... it was cold. It could have been the creamiest pasta, but it was cold and no one likes cold cheese. I saw another Yelp member say to save your money and go to Olive Garden, and unfortunately, I 100% agree.

One of my favorite places to go out and eat very adult friendly. Meat sauce, bread and salad are just delicious.
Be the first to ReplyThis place and food is just Gross sorry .
There are two sweet waitresses except one rude woman with black hair In a pony tail we learned she is managers daughter she has no manners and we saw her argue with entire table of customers regarding the issue with the food C she was extremely rude . Never again not sure who putting these 4 and 5 stars it must be her or people never had Italian food in their freaking life .
Be the first to ReplyUpon the recommendation of friends, I decided to give this
Upon the recommendation of friends, I decided to give this place a try, and it turned out to be a worthwhile visit. Navigating the menu proved to be a delightful challenge, given the array of enticing entrees. Eventually, we made our choices and settled on the Beef Ravioli and Veal San Pietro. Our selected entrees came with a delightful sequence of accompaniments: soup, salad, and garlic bread. The soup of the day was a heavenly vegetable concoction, so delicious that I was tempted to lift the bowl for a sip. The salad, dressed with ranch and an in-house sauce, perfectly complemented the flavors. Despite finding the garlic bread a tad on the garlicky side, I couldn't resist indulging in more than three pieces, happily dipping them into the savory sauces of our entrees. Moving on to the main course, the entrees were a culinary triumph. The Beef Ravioli surpassed my expectations, fulfilling every desire I had for the dish. On the other hand, the Veal San Pietro, while not resonating with my taste buds as it did with others at the table, was still well-regarded by them. I'd recommend giving it a shot based on their positive reviews. The meal left us thoroughly satiated, and I'm already planning a return visit to explore more of their offerings. As for the customer service, it was consistently decent. Our orders arrived promptly, and the staff checked on us regularly. A memorable moment occurred when one of the employees added an extra layer of cheese to our dishes, accompanied by playful innuendos. The lighthearted interaction added to the overall enjoyable vibe of the dining experience, making it a place I'd happily revisit.

We ate outdoors on the patio. Owner has been here 30 years. Very friendly welcome. They're renovating so be patient with their progress. Private lot parking. Entrance on side through parking lot. We started off with crab cake appetizer and it was light and deliciously accompanied with homemade tartar sauce. I tried an Italian margarita and chicken Francisco. My date had beef ravioli. Delicious! We will be back.

I came across Riva's about a year ago when I was looking for Italian restaurants in Montrose area. And I am so happy I found it!! I love this place. Mainly the friendly owners and staff and the cozy/warm ambiance in here. I've already had some great memories here and have become a regular. It is the definition of a hidden gem. Not to mention the food is great (huge portions) and super affordable. I personally think it's a great date spot! I wish there more more places like this in Houston. But because there isn't, Riva's is definitely special.
Be the first to ReplyI came here on a date night with my boyfriend.

OMG!! My mom and I are so happy we decided to try this place. The food is AMAZING!! Service was great along with the Ambiance. Can't wait to go back! Food also comes with complimentary soup and bread, it was my first time having Lentil Soup and it was delicious!
Be the first to ReplyLove this restaurant! The atmosphere is friendly and adult.
The creamy lentil soup is delicious and almost every meal includes soup and salad. I like the grilled chicken on pasta with marinara sauce and of course the lentil soup and salad. The restaurant gets busy but the wait staff is always around to help you and are so friendly. This is my Friday go to place to relax after a long work week.

A little shabby but it's been around for a good long while in Houston. Great prices on the food. My scallops and shrimp in their homemade tomato sauce. It was AWESOME. The service was top notch and my wife had an off menu chicken funchesi that she loved. We forgot to take photographs but it was very crowded and you could tell that the bottomless mimosas were a huge hit. Everybody outside was really enjoying their food. I would definitely come back here again.

Have dined here many times and must have not been ordering the right dishes. This time I ordered the Veal San Pietro. It was amazing!. The sauce was to die for, the veal was tender, and the complimentary garlic bread was some of the best I've had. The restaurant doesn't look like much, not at all fancy....but, at Christmas time, it is covered with lights!
