Rolo’s Queens Reviews from The Last Year

What can I say that has not already been said about Rolo's; consistently delicious, excellent service, the seasonal pork chop is always excellent! Check it out if you haven't been already; literally everybody I have brought here has loved it too.

LOVE LOVE when a place lives up to the hype!!! Read the reviews so our party was schooled on how to order- Snagging the reservation on Resy was the first step - 5:30 was perfect last night - bustling but not too crazy so I think that allowed us to enjoy a wonderful meal... As soon as we seated, we put 2 burgers on hold, while we decided on the rest of our meal. We ordered the chili butter polenta + the special one with goat cheese and honey (should've had this one for dessert!) pure rich decadence! Ended up ordering the 2 burgers- no regrets!!! perfectly cooked, right amount of meat and flavored with a rich smokiness... even the flexitarian in our party declared it a good burger! The waygu skirt steak medium-rare was perfect with the garlic butter was so soft and full of flavor... the two sheet lasagna was a delight to eat ---once you got closer to the middle where all the creamy good stuff was hiding out (a tad more filling would have hit the spot) - it was soooo rich - a real treat with every bite! We also enjoyed some refreshing homemade lemonade, limeade and a spicy pineapple margarita- I highly recommend an early visit ps- Our server Steven was knowledgeable and engaging- Cozy neighborhood vibe & super clean bathrooms-- A+ thank you for a wonderful dining experience!!!
The ambiance was cute and lively but too noisy.
It was hard to even hear my friend right next to me. The polenta breads were actually delicious, highly recommend the one with calabrian chilli. They ran out burgers at 6:30 which I think is a little ridiculous. The two sheets lasagna was very disappointing with burnt pieces and a too squashy filling.

Mostly came for the burger, which truly lived up to the hype. The menu advises that you arrive earlier in the day as this may sell out by 1 PM- we came for brunch around noon and had no trouble ordering the double cheeseburger with bacon. It was a great burger. Was it life-changing, no- but was it super worth getting for brunch especially at the price it was offered? Yes! The other menu options are...fine. Nothing super thrilling. We went with the arctic char, which was similar to seasoned lox. While the fish itself was fine (especially with the dipping sauce it came with), the polenta bread offered on the side was the real star. The bread (either as a side or app) is absolutely a must! We also opted for the potatoes on the side, war style. I'm not sure which war this is styled after, as I don't remember learning about the war of mayo & peanut sauce, but this was an excellent addition to the meal. It wasn't overly crowded on the Saturday brunch we went, but making a reservation is not a bad idea. It's a little strange that such a large restaurant has only one bathroom. The drinks options are fairly varied and we opted for the two chilled reds, which were both delicious.
20/10.
Everything was phenomenal and sumptuous. My brother and I ordered spicy pineapple margaritas, carrot drinks, calabrian chili butter polenta bread, stracciatella cheese, finocchiona (I was afraid it would be too thick or chewy but it was perfectly thin), hamachi crudo with cantaloupe and almonds (super refreshing), the golden tilefish (flakey, melt in your mouth and a great portion size). And for dessert we got- salted caramel chocolate mousse ( we ordered two of them it was THAT good!), peach brown butter tart and affogato. The whole meal was paced perfectly, there was no rush from the waiters so we were very relaxed and comfortable and had a wonderful time. We must've been there 1.5-2 hours! A few different servers assisted us and they were all very pleasant to interact with. I am beyond excited to go again to try new dishes from the creative masterminds behind Rolo's!
MORTADELLA.
This is why you should come here. They make their own, and it melts in your mouth. You can press it against your palate, and it's like chewing. It's that good. Everything else is very good. The burger was my least favorite item. It's not bad, but it's not great. A smash burger needs a flattop, not a grill. The wood fire grill gives it an ashy taste that overpowers everything else. Thought it enhances many items, the wood fire grill detracts from the burger.
Had been hearing a lot about Rolos for a really long time
Had been hearing a lot about Rolos for a really long time and finally decided to make my way down there and try it. The cocktails were pretty good and the food was great but we would only consider returning with a different server. Our server was friendly but he was very pushy and very adamant on upselling us on almost everything. We were a party of four and had already ordered cocktails and a different entree each but was persistent that we order appetizers, more than once. Then when we finally said yes he brought out an appetizer that contained a food restriction for two people in our party so they were not able to even eat it (he did bring out another one on the house but it was already something we didn't really want). Aside from that the food was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary, there are lots of good restaurants in New York, you won't regret trying this one, but you'll live if you don't.
*** Make Reservations!!! (Via Resy.
com)*** Unbeknownst to me, we should have made reservations weeks before we intended to go to Rolo's! I tried to make reservations a few days before my party of 4 wanted to go; only to find out that they were completely booked until 9:30pm on that Tues evening! They mentioned that they do keep a few tables open for walk-ins; and you can also eat at the bar. So instead of picking another date for dinner, we decided to take our chances as walk-ins. Well.... I showed up at 5:30pm hoping to get a table by 6pm. To my surprise, they were completely booked and had no room for more walk-ins! However, they had plenty of outdoor seating available...but it was 90 degrees that day! Well, big shout-out to host Shaun, who went out of his way to rearrange table seatings/reservations, and made room for my parry of 4! Now THAT is top-notched customer service! Thanks so much, Shaun! You totally saved our evening! Ok, onto Rolo's! I didn't realize that Rolo's took up 3 storefronts! We were seated in the middle section, near their open kitchen. I was amazed that all their delicious dishes came out of that small open kitchen, and it was intriguing to see the chefs/staff do their "thing". They are a well-oiled machine, and made all their hard work seem effortless and dare I say, stress-free?!?! Kudos to all! Rolo's menu isn't huge, which I appreciated. (I dread going to a restaurant and being handed a book of menu items). Their menu has enough options to satisfy everyone's palate, without being overwhelming. As usual, we decided to eat family-style, so we could try as many dishes as possible. Our Menu (shared by 4): -- Wood-Fired Polenta Bread w.Sesame & Wild Oregano $10...this was a tad bit salty, but we loved it. A Must-Have! (This also went well with the Stracciatella)! -- Stracciatella Cheese, Silk Chili, Cured Sumac w.Wood-Fired Polenta Bread $13...this was cheesy goodness but dare I say, I actually like the Wood-Fired Polenta Bead more than the Stracciatella?! Both delicious! -- Two-Sheet Lasagna Verde Bolognese $32...I was intrigued by all the photos of this Verde lasagna and their rave reviews. This lasagna was pretty good but honestly, I think the other dishes were more interesting to try. -- Wagyu Skirt Steak $48... Perfection! This was. Absolutely Delicious and prepared perfectly rare. Note that our server didn't ask us how we wanted this prepared, and it came rare, which we loved, but if you prefer your meat more well-done, you should probably mention it to your server. -- Wood-Fired Chicken (1/2) w.Green Tahini & Mint $34....I normally don't order chicken dishes when I eat out because it's so ordinary. But after reading the rave reviews for this dish, we ordered it. The Tahini Mint sauce was fantastic but the chicken was....chicken! Hahaha Good but nothing Mind-Blowing. (I'm going back to not ordering chicken dishes!). -- War Style Potato Wedges $12...these crispy potato wedges came with 2 sauces: mayo (?) & a delicious brown sauce; topped with chopped raw onions. The mayo was no big deal but the brown sauce was! We were all intrigued by this sauce; with everyone trying to guess what the ingredients were. It had a surprising spiciness that crept up on you, and lingered. We were completely stumped. We asked, and were told that the sauce was made with soy sauce, Thai chili oil & peanut butter... peanut butter!!! Incredible! -- Grilled Greens, Garlic Confit $13...these were good but were cooked with whole garlic cloves. Chopped garlic probably would have made this dish more flavorful. All-in-all, a satisfying, delicious meal. Customer service and Hospitality were fantastic! Everyone was warm and friendly. We had a constant replenishment of fresh bottles of water and clean plates. Again, kudos to the entire staff. What a pleasure to have experienced Rolo's! Note: they have a lovely outdoor dining area. If it weren't 90 degrees, we wouldn't have minded dining outdoors.
Food was great especially the crispy cinnamon french toast!
Food was great especially the crispy cinnamon french toast! To die for! We could only get a reservation for brunch since we were in Brooklyn for a recording session. We are hoping to come back for dinner to try their lasagna. Great space and layout. Kitchen is open for all to see the magic unfold.

Visited our son in NYC this weekend and he made reservations at Rolo's. Modern but classy ambiance with upbeat service. Stephanie was very attentive and took care of us. We ordered the chicken, the fish and the war style crispy fries with the spicy peanut sauce. The fish was my sons and husbands favorite but I loved the chicken. Can't go wrong with anything you try here. Topped it off with sweet cream and sorbet.

We came for two of our friend's bday celebration and everything was great! They offered a pre-fix menu and we added a la carte. Staff was super friendly and helpful, and let me tell you, these small plates were amazing! I forgot to take a photo of the prosciutto but goddamn that was delicious! The mortadella was one of the best I've ever had. The lasagna is not your typical Lasagna but it so good! Could have used a little more sauce though. The head on shrimps were messy but delicious. Definitely get the potato's war style! Every dish had such great flavors. The rib eye and pork chops were a little over done to my liking. The hanger steak was perfect! I'd skip the rib eye and just get the hanger steak. I have to come back earlier next time to try and snag a burger!
So this visit was not planned and my husband randomly chose
So this visit was not planned and my husband randomly chose this place as I've never heard of Rolo's. We arrived at 4pm and apparently they have a break from 3-5pm for the transition of brunch to dinner but seating for drinks at the bar is allowed. We said hey why not, its only an hour. We asked to be put on a wait list and were the first ones. Keep in mind, what I learned about Rolo's once 5pm hits itll be a mad house. Either you make a reservation or come 30ish mins early and get put on a waitlist otherwise all tables WILL be taken up once the dinner service starts. Alex was our wonder bartender, answered all questions we had and kindly made sure we were aware of all the things I stated above. We started off with the spicy pineapple marg. It was good but a spicy drink was never my thing and too much of it doesnt sit well with me. I opted for a mango margarita for my next drink and it was delicious. He definitely knew how to make a drink. For being put on a waitlist we got a really nice corner booth, I loved it and the vibes of the 2nd room where the kitchen was located. By 5:15 every single table was taken, I never seen such a thing and very impressed. Main reason why my husband chose this place was for the burgers, it's supposed to be one of the best...so here we are. I was told these burgers get sold out within the first hour or so. We started off with the sea salt and olive oil polenta bread accompanied by an order or prosciutto. The bread was smaller than I thought because then I would've ordered 2 but it was superrrrrrr soft and yummy, it went perfectly with the prosciutto but I wish the cut was saltier than it was, you just tasted more of the fat. Next. The main event. The burger everyone talks about. Cooked to perfection. Very juicy. A wonderful and delicious burger but not the best that I've tried as everyone says. It's super filling. We also ordered a side of potatoes. These were super crispy wedges. Very good! As for the sauce that came with it, It was not my favorite and I'm a sauce girl. I was excited to try dessert but I simply couldn't finish. Our waitress, im sorry I couldnt remember her name, super kind, always came around to refill our waters. Everyone that worked here all worked together and you can feel their great energy. I would love to come back and try their steaks, pastas, and their known for lasagna. Definitely recommend but remember go EARLY before dinner service opens or make a reservation.

Been to Rolo's so many times now and have had nothing but amazing experiences. Have had the pleasure of getting great service from the entire staff including Josh, Tyler and Shaq to name a few. Came here for my birthday, Father's Day and Rolo's has become my go to restaurant for anyone I want to impress with a great meal. Salt and Pepper head on shrimp is my sleeper favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the cocktails are amazing. The Spicy pineapple margarita is unreal too! It's a cozy restaurant with good vibes and the best staff, you really can't ask for more. They do all of the fundamentals right and everyone cares which really shows.

Food: 8.
7/10 Service: 8.5/10 Ambiance: 8.4/10 Went to Rolo's on a Monday night in early March. Arrived early and sat at the bar. I'd been meaning to try this restaurant since the Eater NY video profile on April 5, 2023. The title of the YouTube video said it had the best burger in NYC. Then it became popular on Instagram. So I went to try it. It is a great burger. Much better than the Wendy's baconator that I had last week. It is very juicy and nicely seasoned, topped with grilled onions and dijonnaise. It does not have the dry aged funk of the Red Hook tavern burger, but is equally delicious, if not more so. I still have Luger's and Raoul's up higher on my list, but Rolo's offering is certainly up there. The ribeye took a while to come out. The bartender said they let it rest a while before serving, but I would have preferred they send it out to the table a little sooner and at a higher temperature. It's still a great steak, but quite pricey. The Rolo's daiquiri #1 and the martini french (french rhum, vanilla cordial, blackberry, pineapple & lemon juice, salt, herbsaint), both $16, were well made, refreshing concoctions. I enjoyed the former more than the latter. This daiquiri is better than Raoul's version, though maybe not quite as good as The Happiest Hour's. From some of the conversations I heard at the bar, it seems many hospitality industry people dine on Mondays. Everyone knows everyone. An industry with real community.
I can't say enough good things about this spot.
Passionate staff, great wine list and absolutely banging food. The polenta bread with mortadella was to die for as was every other dish I tried. The bartender got us set up with some delicious local natural wine which paired nicely with the moody lighting and vibe of the restaurant. This will be on my must visit list every time I'm back in NYC.
Mid at best.
The internet ruined this experience. Sad to see it wither into an instagram destination. But happy ridgewood is slaying.

(NOTE: This is a review I began back on 11/3/2022) I don't know how to add to the hundred-plus previous reviews already posted but not having read any of them, here goes: We unfortunately didn't try coming here back when it was a small take-out storefront & part-time cafe in 2020 (?) so when we saw the website and came in person, we were floored by how it tripled in size & transformed into a full-blown restaurant - and a super-crowded one, too. In fact, when my husband and I arrived, we were told that indoor seating was going to be a 30-45 min wait so we sat outdoors in a heated hut. It has a communal table in it where you can be seated a group of up to 8 (! Very spacious & nice ambiance & VERY warm!) or you share the space with another couple. Another couple was already seated there and were extremely nice & friendly & were regulars from the neighborhood and RAVED about this restaurant & eagerly asked us what we were ordering & agreed with our choice (the wood fire roasted chicken & the lasagne - which is also wood-fired (!) They also urged us to try their homemade ice cream & "fudgy chocolate cake". The chicken and desserts were the caliber of a $50-75 per entree restaurant (the chocolate was to DIE for! And the cherry sauce it came with was like the kind that is used in a homemade sour cherry pie) ! The lasagne was very unique, you'll see when it arrives and yes is made with fresh pasta. Of COURSE we are coming back - Must try brunch, right??? Note: We were so hungry that we forgot to take photos of our dinner (XD), only the wood fired bread and the desserts!
If i were just judging the burger, would give Rolo's a 5
If i were just judging the burger, would give Rolo's a 5 star review. It was absolutely delicious and lived up to the hype I had read all about online! I also really enjoyed the war fries, which were crispy potato wedges with a spicy peanut sauce and mayo (I'm a sucker for anything peanut!!). At $15, I didn't think the mortadella was particularly worth it. It was good, but I've had better elsewhere at a lower price. The lasagna was a bit overdone, so I got more taste of the char versus flavor of the pasta/filling. I think rolos is a great spot to try once to get the burger (get there early to make sure you get it since we apparently had gotten the last one at around 7pm), but I don't think the rest of the menu is worth going out of the way for.
Great music.
Candle lit table. Friendly people from front of house, to bar, to waitress and the woman who brought water to the table and cleared dishes. It was sad that they were out of the burger, the reason we came, but it looked so great we wanted to stay, and so we spent much more than intended but it was a great meal. We were there for the last day of the Valentine's Day menu, and our food was pretty fantastic. The salad was greens with chèvre and a light vinaigrette, that was a bit over salted, but great still. The mushrooms had this amazing spicy peanut sauce. The spicy margarita had a burnt pineapple that was phenomenal! The entrees were: A) a duck that was steak like, with lentils, and the flavor of the meat was fantastic! B) Filet Mignon with a wonderful peppercorn sauce and C) the standout...the chicken in a butter & herb sauce. We got the fries with sauce on the side which I recommend doing...the fries were great, and I loved the sauce but my daughter felt it was weird... Had to order bread to soak up the leftover sauce, and then got the almond tart for dessert and a cappuccino because it looked so good and it was! Highly recommend. and its rare that we get dessert, but the
