A real gem
Excellent food and service. Unpretentious and low key yet every bit Michelin food. Try the fantastic lobster pasta: that bisque is outrageous! Or the short rib with amazing relish. The fake egg desert I didnโt personally think was that special taste wise, but the ice cream was great. Salads were superb. Garlic bread a delight.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin slip of the mind
To start positively: some of the dishes were very tasty. But for the rest this was definitely not a Michelin star worthy experience. Dishes are extremely overpriced for what you get. An average rib-eye steak for EUR 140? Come on! (It was not a small steak, that must be said). Overall the experience was extremely commercial. From the very beginning it is all about making you spend more in the 2 hour time slot that you are allotted (!). That is not a Michelin experience. Not for that price. The service is very sloppy. When they are not being commercial, they are uninterested: โIs this the dish we ordered?โ Answer: โProbably, I am not sureโ. Menus that are handed to you upside down. A sommelier that does not explain anything about the champagne and the wine that is being poured and that uninterestingly is looking out of the window while you taste the wine. And a waitress that doesnโt even greet you anymore once the bill is paid. We had a nice evening. But that was mainly thanks to the company and not thanks to the restaurant experience. Michelin must have had a slip of the mind when they awarded this star.
Be the first to ReplyPricey but very very tasty!
Really great vibe/atmosphere and staff were very friendly. My partner has a nut and egg allergy and they were very accommodating and thorough when checking everything. The food was so delicious. It was pretty pricey and some dishes were reasonably small but the taste was just wonderful and we were full!

Fantastic food - interesting and eclectic - excellent cocktails and a solid wine list - servers are hard working and thoughtful but sometimes overwhelmed
Be the first to ReplyNot good value for money
The food is good, albeit on the small side, so I really didnโt think this is good value for money. The beef Wellington was delicious, but the plate was very small, especially considering we were told by the waitress that it can be bought for share. The snacks were nice, especially the Balinese chicken tacos. Starters were nice, but again, waaay too small (the Dutch hare empanada is literally ONE empanada). Lastly, the thing I really didnโt enjoy was the serving of the Gin-T, which came in a plastic bag, designed to look like a glass. I think we should all be more considerate of this, especially a Michelin star rated chef.
Be the first to ReplyMemorable and special evening, although unsure on value for money
Really lovely meal with excellent food, wine and service. If youโre looking for somewhere special yet relaxed and outside the busy central district, this fits the bill. The small plates were really delicious and inventive - we guess this is why the restaurant has its Michelin star. The BBQ meat was delicious, although perhaps not as good as the lofty prices.
Be the first to ReplyTake the ribs
Great place with wonderful dishes. They have a tapas menu so you can select on the go. 3 per person is more the enough. You can also order main courses but we kept it with the tapas. All exceptionally good. The ribs where my favorite. They have one Michelin star and concept is different what I'm used in similar places. I was only a bit disappointed in the service. Not bad but not what you normally experience in a one star place.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent address
Very good restaurant with a bistro vibe, so not too uptight. The food was extremely nice, slightly spicy. We had the langoustines, spareribs, mac & cheeseand mushrooms. All the meals were very satisfying.

Loved the ribs in particular. Great taste- very juicy and delicious. Well prepared. Excellent service and exceptional value for the money
Be the first to ReplyExcellent steak and beef tartare!
We visit this restaurant while in Amsterdam. We had the beef tartare and the dim sum for starters. A very creative approach of the dim sum both on presentation and taste. We had the black Angus steak as the main course. Even though a bit fatty, everything was really tender and delicious. The egg dessert was simply from another world! Good job!
Be the first to ReplyInteresting Concept
I was really curious about this concept. The chef had a ** he converted into this new concept. Here is my best synopsis. It is an ala carte only restaurant with food and service standards of a Michelin one star (he does have a star). It really isnโt a destination restaurant. More directed at locals.
Be the first to ReplyLived up to our expectations!
My colleagues and and I had dinner at Ron Gastrobar in Amsterdam (Sophialaan 55) the other night. This restaurant is quite popular and reservations are a must; book a few days out.
The restaurant has the feel of an upscale bistro more than a bar. We were seated promptly with our reservation and the service was attentive and friendly.
Started off with a glass of Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Reserve Champagne. As starters we ordered several small plates including the Romaine lettuce, the spareribs and the fois gras. (The fois gras is quite unique, served in a small ice cream cup and absolutely delicious, especially when paired with the Chateau Simon sauternes). For the main course we shared a 650 gram portion of the turbot, along with a bottle of the Chateau La Guรฉriniรจre St Emilion red; it was also superb. For dessert I tried the banana tartelette, very nice.
All in all, a very nice experience!
Great food and atmosphere
We had a great experience at the Ron Gatrobar on Sophialaan St. Food was really delicious and the staff was so helpful and made we feel very comfortable and cozy. Great atmosphere. We shared the cauliflower, mushrooms and foie gras as starters and the black angus as our main dish. All great choices but we could have easily picked the langostino or the ribs that some of our neighbors had. The food presentation was impeccable. But the highlight was the chefs medium rare angus that was really tasty. We had just over 400g and it was probably just the right size. The peanut caramel desert was good and the surprise ice cream was a great close. A little bit expensive though.
Be the first to ReplyRon Gastrobar ruined our night with horrible service and when they promised to make up for it they made us pay for it.
Thoroughly disappointed. This restaurant managed to ruin my night twice. How could they do two!? Read on!
The first time I've been at this restaurant, the service was horrendous. The girl waiting our table couldn't name ingredients of dishes or come up with any sensible wine paring. After spilling oil on the table she didn't clean up. Also she didn't notice our empty glasses or was able to come up with any recommendation regarding the menu. We left after our second course for another place.
After we voiced our heavy disappointment Ron Gastrobar offered us a voucher for a "free meal" to make up for our ruined birthday dinner.
When we wished to cash in the voucher last weekend, the waiting staff reassured us we were eligible for a free meal and the service was definitely better. Nonetheless when trying to pay Ron Gastrobar turned around on their previous (and triple assured) promises and told us our voucher now only meant two small appetizers, not the full meal... As anyone can image, we we're stupified that after a horrendous experience, which they wanted to make up for, this wry surprise of only a trite was thrown to us under false pretenses, and we were forced to pay a full bill.
We will never visit any restaurant within this chain ever again. Any organization wanting to function in a premium field should at least communicate thoroughly and should never show this utter disregard for any well willing guest.
