Ron Gastrobar Oriental Downtown Amsterdam Reviews
We were welcomed warmly.
Seated promptly, and had excellent, attentive service the entire evening. We enjoyed the overall ambience. It was busy and bustling with personalized attention. We had the Rouge 74 Chinese menu and enjoyed each course. We started with edamame, followed by the most beautiful and tasty sampler of dim sum. The flavors were interesting and each piece was so tasty. Our main course was Peking duck and we loved the meal. The presentation was lovely and the steamed bao buns were a nice surprise. For dessert we had a specially made cocktail to complement the mango tapioca and gelato. Superb! The most enjoyable part of our dining experience was watching the bartender craft cocktails (we sat at the bar). His attention to detail led to cocktails that were true artistry! Our cocktails were truly outstanding. We highly recommend reservations at Ron Gastrobar if you are in Amsterdam.
This is a place you should not miss
The food is truly fantastic without being pretentious. Service is great and the staff is knowledgeable. 2nd time we ate here and although on first glance it appears to be expensive, it really isn't if you compare the quality to similar or even higher-priced restaurants.
Best dinning experience in Amsterdam
Best food we have had in Amsterdam. We had the rice tasting table, and had the best experience. The food was delicious and varied. They took a “no-fish” request into consideration and adapted on the spot. The service was great. Polite but not too pushy, and gave great wine recommendations. Definitely recommendable.
If there's ever a spot trying a little too hard to be
If there's ever a spot trying a little too hard to be 'oriental', Ron's is it. The interior is dark with loud music and small cosy tables. You'll see ducks hanging from their necks in a cold fridge downstairs, presumably the same ones that will grace your plates later with lackluster skin. Food. There were six of us and we ended up trying the blue and red menus. Shrimp toast... I assume the fusion here was the addition of avocado inside with the shrimp. Flavor was OK, but it was a little oil logged. Dim sum was interesting. The wagyu siu mai with truffle had a decent flavor. Har gao was black and not white as it is traditionally. Both that and the gyozas were good. The fried fish was the best dish. Sadly, the duck did not live up to the hype and not what Peking duck should be. The skin wasn't crispy and the meat wasn't tender/fall apart. It's accompanied by a sad amount of thin dough wraps for you to create your pancake with. Note: There were six of us and six wraps. So, you'll have to ask for more immediately. And it takes a while. Service was decent, but did slow down as the restaurant got busier. Music was loud and it got harder to hear as the evening wore on. Ironically, they tell you that you've only got 2 hours at your table, and yet they were slow to take orders, bring out food, etc. Loads of amazing restaurants in Amsterdam that this was disappointing for our last night in town. Particularly at the price point.
Mice running around
What can I say more....mice ran around upstairs and when complained ....they blamed the old building ...if fancy a dimsum with mice or mice satey this is your place....if you don't like mice I would avoid this place
Horrible
Very slow service, have to wait 45 min for our starters dumplings portion are rediculous small for the price, wait another half hour for main course, the spinach dish is way overpriced 20 euro for a handful spinach is raw not cooked. The meat is just thin rolled up filled with some mushrooms Fish dish was ok but not enough to share. Shrimps is too tiny for that price is way overpriced!! Vegetarian dumplings you get 1 dumpling, 1 TINY fried spring roll, 1 tiny sesame ball what is sweet. Never been disappointed in my life eating in a Michelin restaurant, I am so embarrassed to bring my fam to Ron Blaauw restaurant. We left still hungry, went to another place to eat. Shame on you Ron Blaauw…. Ik schaam me blauw, en erger me blauw!!!!! Bowl white rice 8,20 yes little bowl rice was cold and hard manager gave us another bigger bowl with rice what is pretty good. I ended up eating rice with soy sauce!! True story!!
Can I eat the whole menu? The only issue you might have is
Can I eat the whole menu? The only issue you might have is holding yourself back from trying too much. It truly is a gastronomic take on Chinese/Indo food. I am a sucker for the snacks and dim sum. Highly recommend doing a sampler. We also got the curry shrimp and beef satay. The shrimp was amazing and paired with white rice that comes with it but you can also get a side of noodles or fried rice. Modern and trendy vibes in the heart of Amsterdam with Spicy, tangy, Asian goodness!
A special dinner in Amsterdam
Top notch experience...first time in Amsterdam that o experience a level similar to London We particularly enjoyed the duck gyoza, the ribs and the beef BAO. Special thanks to Daniele that made every effort and succeed in making our night special. We hope to come back. Also the prices were reasonable for Amsterdam
