Much more than your usual curry
Much more special than a standard curry, super tasty and everything a little bit different. Liked the modern, quirky decor. Not cheap.
Be the first to Replydelicious food and warm staff
Appetizers were the highlights in this restaurant! very attentive and helpful staff when they helped accommodating our big family along with my dad on wheelchair as we were celebrating a family occasion! The ambience, service and delicious food made the event special for the whole family. Dahi puri was blast of various flavors that we had multiple repeat orders for it, same for paneer chilli roll. Jackfruit cutlet were flavorful, crispy and stuffed cheese kulcha were extra ordinary. We loved the Lauki kofta preparation in Entrees. Chole and paneer pinwheel were alright. The portions could have been bigger in main course. But overall food was authentic, delicious and the whole family thoroughly enjoyed the dinner experience including drinks and desserts. Very friendly staff. Worth the money for the experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, service, ambiance, location.
We were searching for delicious food outdoors but were very time limited. Rooh's Chili Cheese Kulcha, Sweet Potato Chaat, Tandoor Smoked Pork Belly, Butter Chicken with rice were delicious. Service was very efficient, attentive but not intrusive. Didn't have hot drinks on the menu but made a lovely hot toddy. Very enjoyable experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat location, food good, slow service
The service was pretty slow but picked up later and was friendly enough. The food was not bad- modern Indian as opposed to the traditional Indian food you’d get in other places. Location is great.
Be the first to ReplyTasty Indian with a modern flair in Palo Alto
Very enjoyable experience at Rooh in Palo Alto. The food was incredible, the cocktails creative, and the staff attentive. Particularly enjoyed the chicken tika bomba - incredible!

If you like overly salted, room-temperature food, served within minutes of ordering, saffron rice with no hint of saffron, tasteless Indian nan, then Rooh is for you. Trader Joes has MUCH better nan & and frozen Indian food. I cannot recommend one dish. Even their mint & cilantro chutney is horrible, the worst I've ever had. We had room temperature over-salted lamb chops, duck Shikampuri kebab, which was particularly bad, butter chicken, stuffed eggplant, and awful chickpeas curry. Both Amber and Sakoon are better choices.

Four of us were starving after our long walks exploring the Stanford University Campus, and were glad that we had made reservations in order to try this place out, because of the hype associated with it. They were ready and waiting for us when we arrived, and quickly ushered us to a nice table in the air-conditioned indoors. They are known for their Cocktails, so we ordered two Khub Bhalo, one Anar Paloma and one Amrud Mojito to start out, and pair with the Sweet Potato Chaat and the Paneer Chili Roll. For the Main Course, we ordered one Jackfruit Cutlet, one Paneer Pinwheel, one Tandoori Cauliflower and the Stuffed Eggplant to be supplemented with three Garlic Naans and two Saffron Rice Bowls – all to be served family style. Finally, for Dessert, we got the Mango Ras Malai and the Saffron and Pistaccio Ice Cream. The Menu was creative. They paid attention to the smallest detail in plating and presenting the items, and added the correct level of spices. All the dishes ignited our taste buds, and we were able to enjoy and savor everything to the very end of our meal. The décor was upscale and trendy, the Chandeliers were unique, and the ambiance was classy. Our server, Julia C was a delight. She was pleasant, professional and courteous, and frequently checked in on us to make sure that we were not waiting too long in between the courses. The meal was pricey, yet, we have no hesitation in highly recommending the restaurant to other patrons. We will absolutely return on our next visit to this area.
Be the first to ReplyA Disappointing Visit to Rooh Palo Alto
Rooh Palo Alto
We had been to Rooh in San Francisco earlier and were impressed by the light, bright atmosphere, the excellent service, the varied menu, and the high quality of the food. So we were motivated to try Rooh in Palo Alto. Our experience there was disappointing. Here’s an overview of our impressions.
Plusses
• Talent in the kitchen. Nuanced flavors.
• Backup wait staff efficient without being intrusive
Minuses
• The waiter didn’t bring the wine we ordered, substituted a wine that cost 3.5 times the one we chose, and then didn’t tell us about the change. Fortunately, we caught the problem before the bottle was opened.
• The handheld device used to sign for payment presented the wrong amount for signature. Despite that, the correct amount was charged to our credit card. The customer wants to sign for what she’s being billed.
• The handheld device required a “how did you like us” survey as part of the payment process. That’s too aggressive. I just want to pay the bill.
• There is no paper menu, so you can’t see most of your options at one time but must page down lists on your phone. A solution: offer a paper menu for those who prefer them.
• The music was too loud to allow normal conversation.
Great cocktails great food
Manager Chrystal did an amazing job. She made us comfortable and was super friendly. Server Maria was awesome too. We wanted to have Chai after dinner. Interestingly they don’t do masala chai - only tea bags. Amrud Mojito is out of this world. Highly recommended. Food was great. Ambience was awesome.
Be the first to Reply5 stars only for the food
If you’re a foodie, this is a must try! The food is phenomenal! Galveston prawns, lamb chops, saffron rice, garlic naan… the lamb shank was falling off the bone as expected but the sauce was a little sweet for my palate but delicious anyway.
Don’t go expecting good service and don’t go expecting to feel valued. There is no mâitre d checking on guests during dinner at all. Our server completely forgot our drinks and we had to drink water the whole dinner. Our server did not make any recommendations on the menu and was just not excited to be there. It’s a pity really. If I worked there, people will be handing me their wallets! I know these chef driven restaurants try really hard with the food. I am willing to give it one more try, but just one. Maybe we just got the team’s weakest.
Great cocktails. Choose right dishes.
This is a good place for fine dining. The ambience is great.
We especially enjoyed Paneer PinWheel and Swordfish Tikka.
Their selection of cocktails with progressive Indian flavor was great and something we didn't find anywhere else.
Butter chicken, Paneer curry were average.
Good Indian Food
This was our 3rd visit here and took another couple for their first time. Ordered some Kingfisher beers and the Goat Cheese and Green Pea Naan and Duck Seekh Kebabs as appetizers. Both were good except that Naan could have been bigger and crispier. We then had the swordfish Tikka and chicken Malai tikkas. Both were ok. The Whole sea bass had too much sauce but the Lamb Shank was delicious cooked to perfection with fall off the bone tenderness. The jackfruit koftas were good too
Overall our guests enjoyed the dinner and the Indian Cuisine
Not worth the hype
Great outdoor patio. Obviously Covid is messing everything up for restaurants, and they're making the best of it ambience-wise.
But I found the food largely un-interesting. Sure, the menu looks like inventive Indian cooking, which I suppose it is. But in many cases the execution was flawed. The "Galveston" shrimp didn't have the snap and firmness of wild gulf shrimp. They seemed much more like standard frozen shrimp from Thailand. Duck seekh kebab sounds great, but was totally overpowered by spices so you couldn't taste it. Short rib was OK - tender, with some spice - but the sauce was rather tasteless. Avocado raita - sounds great, I love raita, but was pretty bland - just yoghurt with some chunks of avocado. Didn't get finished. The naan was unremarkable - certainly didn't have the fresh-from-the oven character that you look for.
$12 for a few pieces of papadum - there's a profit center all its own.
The food all looked great when presented, but we were left with feeling that nobody actually checked to make sure that it also tasted good.
So - a pleasant experience, sort of, but we won't be going back any time soon.
Excellent Indian food flavors with a flare
First visit and we will be back. Creative menu and really delicious. I particularly liked the tikka swordfish and the fermented chili chutney (which was advertised as very hot but wasn't). Don't miss the garlic naan. We also liked the butter chicken. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyRooh (Soul) stirring experience !!
I wish I could give this place 6 out of 5. Finally an Indian restaurant with very creative menu, ambience, presentation, flavours, service- THE WORKS !! We were there yesterday to celebrate a special occasion and they went all out to make us feel special. The cocktails were superb with very cool names and twists-if they mean a stiff drink it sure is. Food was rich and bursting with flavor. Can't wait to go back there for a brunch now.
We left the place thinking what did we just taste here- Good job Rooh ! Keep it up .
Rooh means the soul in Hindi/Urdu
Family b day dinner
As a party of 6 we went out in celebration for a family members b day. Tables are set up outside during the covid era dining experience. You will use a qr code on the table to bring up the menu. The highlight of the dishes was the sword fish.
