Be the first to ReplyMy friends and I stumbled upon this nice restaurant by
My friends and I stumbled upon this nice restaurant by accident. It's located close to Grand Central Station. We were greeted quickly, were able to check our coats and seated almost immediately. 6 of us were seated at a nice sized round table. Surprisingly we felt like we had a good amount of spice. Our waiter was attentive and kind. There was also always someone refilling waters without being asked. The menu is large and offers something for everyone; fish, chicken, vegetarian, steak and well you get the idea. The food was phenomenal. The chicken Parmesan was enough for two sittings. I brought half home and when I ate it the next day it was still delicious. When the leftovers are good you know it's good food. I enjoyed a mojito with my meal and they did not skimp on the mint. The drink was perfection and a nice touch. For dessert I indulged in a freshly Stuffed Cannoli. Initially I had no intention of sharing my dessert but once I tasted the filling I had to make my friends experience it. Yes it had the WOW factor. If you love Italian this is the restaurant to check out.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant was pretty mediocre.
My chicken parm was $36, and it was salty and not particularly good. For that price, I'd expect a delicious meal. The restaurant had a "show" which was two opera singers walking around the restaurant and singing intermittently--the singing/piano kept stopping and starting. The ambiance was also spotted with random valentines decorations (which, not to be rude, looked very cheap). Overall, for the price of the meals at this restaurant, I thought it missed the mark.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I were meeting two other couples for dinner
My wife and I were meeting two other couples for dinner last week, both of whom needed to be near Grand Central station, they chose Rossini, an old world, elegant Italian restaurant. I dropped my wife at the restaurant, as I had reserved parking a block away, but one can probably risk street parking on the nearby avenues if you have reservations after 7pm. As we were early, my wife was already sipping her usual Prosecco, served by a very capable and pleasant bartender who seemed to know the other seated at the bar. When our friends arrived, we were seated at a nicely situated round table in the back. Anyway, once drinks were ordered and quickly served, we were not rushed at all as everyone enjoyed their selections. Although we originally planned to order from the menu, they had their own special "unofficial "restaurant menu, which did seem to provide good value that included dessert and coffee. The choices were from their menu. I ordered baked clams, but after I downed some tasty breadcrumbs, I wondered about where the clam was. There weren't any, as I inspected the other clams with not even a hint a chopped pieces of clam. Oh, well the pork dish with tomato sauce and peppers was tasty, as was my wife's veal and mushrooms was too. Our friend's salmon was nicely done as was a pasta dish. The portions did seem a little small, but don't know if that was because of them being a "special". The cannoli for dessert were fresh and delicious. The service was impeccable and the place certainly special. .
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food and service! Authentic Italian cuisine.
Our entire meal was outstanding from the antipasti to the main course and the dessert. The staff was attentive and quick. I wish we had time to go back prior to our departure!

Great atmosphere that's deceiving from the outside - much bigger place when you walk into the back. Food is good, attentive wait staff. Real old school vibe.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent "old school" Italian restaurant where things are
Excellent "old school" Italian restaurant where things are done correctly. The cozy holiday ambiance added to the fine dining experience. For starters we shared a delicious order of baked clams. The highlight however was the oysters on a half shell. Freshly perfect this could've been the stand alone meal. Our main courses included the standard but good chicken parmigiana with spaghetti. The true winner here though was the exceptionally tender filet mignon loaded with mushrooms and vegetables. Better than most overpriced steakhouses. Service was polite and professional - Excellent Night...
Be the first to ReplyAs a New York visitor, this felt like the real deal.
I could totally see Tony Soprano meeting with Johnny Sack here. They would have loved the pasta dishes -- we had carbonara and fettuccine. There were lots of fish, veal, and chicken entrees, but we weren't that hungry. We left room for wonderful tiramisu and cappuccino. The waiters wore suit coats and were appropriately formal. There were plenty of seats with the back to the wall.

Old school Italian; Alfredo and homemade tiramisu were out of this world. Service is phenomenal
Be the first to ReplyGreat service - the waiters are friendly and professional.
I had the Caesar salad and grilled octopus. One of the pieces was a little tough, but in general it was good. There is a garage around the corner and a validated ticket gets you a parking discount. The ambiance was warm and comfortable. My lunch mate and I were able to enjoy quiet conversation.

Service, food, ambience! If you are in the mood for Italian, don't go anywhere else. Doesn't matter what you order, it will be excellent. Service is beyond excellent.
Be the first to ReplyHave been coming here for years and it's great every time.
Ordered the swordfish special and chicken parm with vodka sauce with a side of rigatoni vodka sauce. So so good. Drinks also were amazing and rushed to the table. The service and ambiance has legit been the same for the 40+ years Rossini's has been in business!!
Be the first to ReplyI wanted so bad to like this place.
I tried hard. I spent a couple of hours here enjoying some wine and multiple courses at the bar. Spoiler alert: The wine was the best thing. Take whatever you think is subpar - maybe somewhere, like, Olive Garden. Now go two steps lower. Yeah, food was that bad. Like, not NYC bad. Not even Italian bad. Just straight up bad. I would not eat here again even if you paid me to.Service was wonderful! The bartender, Martin, was so sweet and nice . He patiently took care of me over my prolonged courses at the bar. And he had great wine recommendations. The ambiance and vibe was nice. It's got an old school feel. Waiters in tuxes. Low lighting. Celebrity pics. All great. But then you order some food... And that's where this place dies. The Caesar salad sounded nice with the "tangy anchovies." Most boring Caesar salad I've probably ever had. Ever. No wait - I have to emphasize that EVER again. The tiniest, little, bland, crap salad on a plate. I'm fine with small. Give me small. But give me flavor. That $5 supermarket Caesar salad kit is FAR superior to whatever $15 blandness this was.It was edible, though. So I'm holding out some hope here. I go for the baked clams next. Don't do it. I repeat, do not get the clams. They were... Almost gross. Soggy, but overcooked and burned breadcrumbs. No flavor. You gotta make that lemon slice work real hard. Real hard. Maybe then you'll get a tiny touch of flavor. And then the pasta... Someone's Italian grandma has got to be spitting on them right now. Atrocious. I went with the recommendation of the carbonara. Which is one of my fav pasta dishes. What's that crap Italian fast food place? Fazoli's? Yeah... if Fazoli's did a carbonara drive-thru "pasta," it'd be 5x better than whatever I got served. For reals. It was THAT bad. If I could send it back, I'd send everything after the first couple of bites back. Then I'd vomit those first bites and send that back too. Then I'd send my next day poop back too. I want NOTHING about me to be even slightly affiliated with the absolute abomination of this "pasta" dish. I would share my dog's kibble before I subjected my tastebuds to this again. Are you getting the picture yet? Ick.So in sum, service and vibe are fab. Food is shite. (Yes, shite.) Now, all that said, I cannot overstate how impeccable the service was. Absolutely outstanding! Give Martin a raise. And I dug the vibe. This spot has absolutely everything but good food. But nonetheless, I enjoyed my overall experience, minus the food.
Be the first to ReplyTraditional Italian dining with formal waiter attire,
Traditional Italian dining with formal waiter attire, traditional bar, and fine dรฉcor. I stopped in to order take out and have a drink at the bar. Service was immediate (it was right as they opened) and ordered Chicken Sorrento less the prosciutto (too salty for my taste) and asked for double eggplant. I specifically asked what pasta comes with it and was told I could order any pasta they had. I ordered Angel Hair with extra sauce. Was asked what type of sauce and my reply was 'red sauce', he said, ok, Marinara. The martini was excellent and my food came up soon but waiters changed at the bar and they didn't know whose food it was until I claimed the bag of take out. Presented with the check, I asked what the additional entre of $18.00 was for? It was for the pasta and I replied I thought the pasta was included. No pasta included, only polenta and vegetable (of which there was minimal amount). The Chicken Sorrento, sans prosciutto, was without extra eggplant. The food was delicious but having not gotten the extra eggplant in place of the prosciutto (didn't notice till after I got home) and having an $18 upcharge for a meager portion of pasta was not the overall experience I was hoping for but soon put it aside when I tasted the Chicken Sorrento. It was quite delicious for my tastes and a sizable portion of chicken.Enjoy this restaurant but be sure to know what your entrรฉe includes prior to ordering so you don't get an unexpected additional charge.
Be the first to ReplyDecent! Mid Level Italian.
There are probably 250 restaurants just like this in NYC. Not a bad thing. Good sturdy Italian, with good service, nice people. It's not hip, it's not great, decor hasn't probably changed in 25 years, decent but nothing exciting wine list. So what I mean is you can probably walk down any street in Manhattan and find a restaurant like this, serviceable, reliable, not gonna knock your socks off but probably always a decent meal. Csr Salad was pretty lame; underdressed, if you can believe that, small and not much flavor. Buffalo Mozzarella, again medicore, not much style or substance. Entrees were better, but again good, not great.
Be the first to ReplyI live in the neighbourhood but had never tried this place
I live in the neighbourhood but had never tried this place before recently, and I absolutely regret the decision. The service was good to start with, but after the food came, it all started going downhill. I ordered the "today special" pasta which was a seafood pasta, and I was told by our server that it's a bigger portion - hence the higher price at $55+ (I forgot the exact amount, it is not on the menu as it's a "special"). When the dish arrived, I was shocked to see that it's the same size as other pasta dishes, and the amount of seafood given was a joke. You get four mussels, two clams (one of which was missing, only the shell was there), one scallop, and some calamari. The portion was meager. I asked the server about the portion and the missing clam. He then told me "Are you sure it's small? Big doesn't mean it's gonna be like a mountain"... what kind of reply is that? When I told him one clam was missing, he looked at me, stopped for two seconds and said "Are you sure?" Are you sure? Again, what kind of response is that? He then said he would ask the kitchen to cook me more pasta. I asked to cancel my dish. I had no appetite after the condescending attitude I got from him.Another server came to check on us later, and I explained my dissatisfaction. He was apologetic. But perhaps the management needs to be aware of servers such as the one we had, who could ruin a customer's visit and a restaurant's reputation just like that.
Be the first to ReplyAn accidental find that I am overjoyed to have discovered.
We first found this venue when my mother and I were aimlessly looking for an Italian venue to get dinner before catching our train at Grand Central. The experience was phenomenal. Fast forward a few years and we scoured Midtown looking for this restaurant, finally successful in our search. The food was delicious and the servers were very accommodating. I ordered a 2nd glass of campagne, which they forget, but upon realizing their mistake our server offered my mother, her boyfriend, and me three complimentary glasses to make up for it. Very, VERY, kind establishment. ALSO they had live music with a piano player.

This place is close to my office and went there with a few of my coworkers. Old school NYC Italian joint, small bar and surprisingly large dining rooms. Place was packed with every table taken and at least 5-6 tables of 7/8 plus. Service was excellent, waiters all very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the food wasn't very good at all. Appetizers were small and mediocre, plates were kind of thrown together. I ordered beef braciola special as it sounded really good when the waiter mentioned it. Beef was really dry, kind of fell apart on my plate. Came with a side of rigatoni that was either undercooked or had been sitting for a long time. Marinara had a strange taste and texture. My coworkers said their entrees were below average. I wouldn't go back. Only positive was the desert plate with cannolis and Italian cheesecake. Someone also ordered 2 bowls of what was supposed to be gelato but was a spot on imitation of Breyer's vanilla.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing find and nice hidden gem.
The ambience is classic old Italian, the food is superb, and the service is wonderful, so good in fact we came back a 2nd night. Special shout out to Martin, the bartender who had perfect recommendations on food and wine.

Had a lunch meeting here today with a banker I get together with often. I live so close to this spot I was surprised it had taken me so long to come by. First, I was shocked at how big the restaurant is - definitely a very large establishment. When I got there the restaurant was fairly empty but it filled up by the time we left. I ended up having stripped bass which was great. Would come back and would love to have dinner here

Ambiance, food, and service. We brought the family to NYC for the first time and Rossini's was across the street from our hotel. What a find! ย The inside is what you think of when you think old school NY Italian restaurant. In the hallway between the bar and the dining area, there were pictures of celebrities who have been there. Lots of guys from gangster movies. Helps add to the vibe. My daughter swore there was probably a gun taped behind the toilet. The food was phenomenal. I ordered veal in a butter, lemon, and white wine sauce. So tender and flavorful. My wife ordered a special pasta of the night and it was incredible. My daughter ordered the fettuccine Alfredo, and it was probably the best I've ever had. My son ordered the lamb chops, and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The wait staff was all tuxedoed and could not have been more attentive. Glasses never got empty, used plates never lingered, and everything was handled with grace and professionalism. I can't think of a finer experience I've ever had at an Italian restaurant. Truly a gem, and you should definitely check it out. Bravo.

I just went to pick up food they made me wait for more than 20mins, finally I asked them what's going on, the guy told me they were busy.(seriously? That's how they talk to customers?) That guy didn't even try to help me so I talked to another person and now he even told me he didn't have any order received! Oh my god. What is wrong with these people? They were unbelievably rude. I wound not recommend this unprofessional place.

This restaurant is a hidden neighborhood gem! Once you get past the boring crowd and stuffy vibe, the food is actually incredible. The kitchen is very accommodating and can make about anything vegetarian or gluten free. I always get the pasta of the day and it never ever disappoints.
