Rule of Thirds Reviews from The Last Year
Got a reservation here for an early dinner on a Saturday.
The only thing I knew about this spot is that it's popular and that they serve giant katsu. Well take a look at my pictures - that katsu is fucking huge! Could not have been happier with it from both a size and taste standpoint. It had a perfectly crunchy fry on the outside while still being juicy enough on the inside.. The whole experience was lovely from beginning to end. We were seated in a nice cool area in the back from which we could see the counters and rest of the restaurant. Then when we ordered sake we got to select our own glasses, which felt really fancy and personalized. Then the food, again, was delicious. The mazeman and noodles were great too, not just the katsu. Service was also attentive throughout and quick. Overall high recommendation from me but you've probably already heard of this place from others, so just go check it out already.

The service is great here! The sake sommelier is very knowledgeable and very friendly and helpful! The bartender was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and everything they offered. The food is ok. Brussels sprouts were delicious, the new Mazemen they offered lacked flavor. I understand it was vegetarian but I added the onsen egg hoping it would ass some umami but there was nothing. If you get it definitely add the soy sauce that comes in the little dropper. None of the yakitori stood out. Everything was just ok. Food is 3 stars but the service and staff give it the 4 stars!

A spacious high ceiling restaurant in Greenpoint that also acts as an event space. When we came, there was a comedy show happening later in the evening. We didn't even realize that we sat next to the comedian and his wife for the entirety of the dinner until after. The service was good. The drink and food menu were extensive and unique. We were recommended to get a few skewers. We had the pork jowl which we would get again. The lamb tongue was not our favorite as we couldn't get over the presentation and the texture. It was legit a huge piece of an actual lambs tongue and cut into pieces on a stick. It definitely was obviously a large lamb tongue. I was expecting it to be crunchier/chewier but it was verrrry soft. The tuna sashimi was standard. The mazemen and the Brussels sprouts, and the main wagyu dish stole the show. I would definitely make my way back and will try to make a night of it with an after dinner show as well!
soso beautiful from ambiance to presentation of food.
we got a lot -- karaage, gem salad, salmon, mackerel, and some beef stews. i'd def prefer the fish over the meats, as they came with lovely accompaniments and were well seasoned. get the dessert (black sesame) for sure!! wish I could come here for brunch to try the souffle pancake.
Came here on a Saturday without making a reservation.
Didn't have to wait long to be seated and the servers was attentive. One of the apparent standouts is the massive fluffy soufflé with maple syrup and additional sesame ice cream. Also, ordered the gyu don so I can have the best of both worlds- savory and sweet. Highly recommend, and def need to go back to try the dinner me
Beautiful restaurant with a nice atmosphere.
The food and drinks are overpriced and were very mediocre. Service was ok, the server didn't seem too engaged in our party. Could have done without the last second "complimentary yuzu sake shot" right before paying. Felt the intention was for tip reasons rather than it just being a nice gesture. Overall after hearing so many good things, we left disappointed and unsatisfied. We spent over $100 and still left hungry. Not sure we'd be returning.
I had a hojicha latte which wasn't too sweet.
I enjoyed the Japanese breakfast set which came with salmon and veggies, miso soup, veggies with broth, and rice. I like the Japanese soufflé pancake and we got white chocolate soft serve. The pancake was light and airy. We came at 11am without a reservation and were seated at a communal table. Overall, the food was solid.
TLDR: You have to order the pancakes! The Japanese
TLDR: You have to order the pancakes! The Japanese Souffle Pancakes here are the most unique and best pancakes I have had in NYC. The texture and creaminess inside is unmatched. Served with a sesame butter and maple syrup, the flavors blend together so well. The Katsu sandwich had the juiciest chicken and if you like it a little spicier, ask for a hot paste on the side.
Finally had a chance to try Rule of Thirds! I managed to
Finally had a chance to try Rule of Thirds! I managed to get a resy for 3pm on a Sunday, they actually close at 3pm but it didn't affect the reservation at all. They did say they were running low on the fish sandos though so it's probably safer to get an earlier resy if possible! Overall I'm pretty happy with the experience but it was a little overhyped. The soufflé pancake is good but it's definitely not mind blowing. I actually really enjoyed the fish sando but I did end up taking one of the fish fillets out because it was so hard to take a bite. The ambiance of the inside is great and I would love to come back for dinner one day!
Highly reccomend when you're in the mood to try something
Highly reccomend when you're in the mood to try something different and not picky. All dishes were flavorful & sake is a must try. Service was very helpful and positive at all times!

Good question. Currently the bidder will have to include the prepaid dinner price plus bid to secure the reservation. AT is currently working on an upcoming release where the prepaid amount and the bid amount are two separate transactions. Happy Bidding!
