Ruth's Chris Steak House Boston Reviews from The Last Year
A wonderful anniversary meal
While enjoying our trip to Boston, my wife and I also celebrated our 41st anniversary, so we decided to splurge for a top-notch meal. Ruth's Chris in Boston succeeded very, very well. Service by TJ was very good. We started with a glass of the Riesling, a slightly off-dry wine that was very pleasant on the palate. We then each ordered the fixed price meals. My wife had the Caesar salad, along with the 6 oz sirloin, served medium rare, and a lobster tail. She loved the steak and worked hard on her lobster to get out most of the meat. She shared her side of garlic mashed potatoes with me. I had the lobster bisque to start. The bisque was very tasty, but I would have liked it a little hotter. I also had the 6 oz sirloin, served medium, along with three medium-large shrimp. My steak was wonderful! I shared my side of creamed spinach with my wife. For dessert, we both had a very smooth, very light tasting cheesecake. Absolutely one of the top meals we've ever had. Considering our bill, with tax and tip, came to over $240, we expected nothing less.
Too many other great steakhouses in Boston…
There are too many good steakhouses in Boston to waste your money here. Albeit I sat at the bar, when the Caesar salad is the best part of the dinner at an allegedly high end steakhouse, something is seriously wrong. The quality of the $65 strip was equal to what you find at one of the chain restaurants, Texas Steakhouse, Texas Roadhouse, etc., take your pick, for twice the price. Chewy, zero flavor. Close to my hotel and it was raining so wasn’t up to a big walk, but lesson learned…
Boston Marathon Steakhouse
Excellent Steakhouse in a unique setting! Very nice address in Boston discovered by chance during my trip as part of the 2024 marathon. I recommend 👍🏻

It's been ages since I've done restaurant week and I've never been to a Ruth's and Chris (I know! Where have I been?) I came here on a Friday and they had a $41 prix fix lunch which included an app, main and sides. The 6oz filet was so good, the shrimp not so much. It was too salty with the seasoning and the shrimp tasted frozen to me. I did order a lobster bisque for my app, and was told that there was no soup today. I only was told this after my mom finished her salad and the waitress came to pick her dish up and offered to get me a salad because they have no soup. Umm ok, then half way into my main, the waitress tells me, there's no ice tea so no Arnold Palmer. Fanfuckingtastic! Overall, the food was fine, but why did this location not have soup and ice tea? Not having one thing I ordered I can deal, but two, now I'm just annoyed. The filet was nice and buttery so the beef delivered. The salads were great and fresh. Overall, the lacking part was the service/communication. If there was no soup today, don't put it on the menu, just like the ice tea. The excuse I didn't know, doesn't cut it. Know what's available before people order.
I am not one to normally leave a review.
This is actually my first on here, but my visit to Ruth's Chris in Old City Hall in Boston was one that deserves some praise. I brought 2 friends/colleagues here on Tuesday night after a big presentation at work that had us all in need of a drink and some steak! We were greeted by our server, Veronica who was very friendly and professional. When she asked if we had dined there before, 2 of us had and one had not. She gave our friend a quick but thorough walk through of the menu and warned her about the 500 degree plates! I'm so glad she did because I had forgotten to tell her about that part lol! We started out with cocktails to have with our appetizers and once we finished those, instead of only asking if we would like another cocktail, she asked if we would prefer a nice glass of red wine to accompany our steaks. I am not a huge wine drinker, but for some reason that sounded fantastic. I asked her for some guidance and after she asked me a few questions, she suggested a glass of Pinot Noir that I may like and even brought me a little sip so that I could be sure I liked it, and I definitely did. The food was absolutely delicious. The steaks, 3 Cowboy Ribeyes were all cooked to perfection and the 3 sides we ordered, the AuGratin Potatoes, Mushrooms and Brussels Sprouts were all amazing and enough to share! We also asked for more of the delicious warm bread and butter to enjoy with the meal! I will admit, I used to be a regular here, and the food had always been great, but I became accepting of the fact that the service standards were simply "ok" here. Not terrible, just not what you expect for the price you pay. Last night, they got it right! Attentive, but not overbearing service, clearing plates, replacing silverware and getting rid of the crumbs in between courses and when I had made a little bit of a saucy mess on the white table cloth, she came over with a white linen and laid it over the area so that we "wouldn't get it on our sleeves". The only thing that could use improvement is that when I go out to an expensive meal, I am used to having the food packaged for me. The busser came over with boxes and a single bag and asked if we wanted to pack the food ourselves. I didn't want to be rude so I said that was fine, but Veronica came over with a table side tray right away and packed it for us, and apologized, which was kind but not necessary. I should be better at asking for what I want! So glad to see the service is getting better here! I can't wait to return very soon!

Food was amazing, steaks were cooked to perfection and the shareable sides were the stars of the show. We came in on a busy Saturday and were told we can only sit in the bar which fortunately was an amazing experience. The bartenders Sally and Izzy made our experience amazing, they're very easy to talk to and make you feel welcome from the first moment you enter the bar. The building has a lot of history and is truly very beautiful. This was my first time at this location and it's most definitely become my favorite. Great food, even better service.
We loved the unique view from our table.
Great staff and hostesses. Food could have been a little better
Sadie was the best! thanks for the great service and food.
We loved our steaks and martinis. Sadie threw in a cheesecake on the house for my birthday- very sweet! Xoxo gossip girl
Nice for a quite special dinner.
Always classy, they have an extended wine and liquor selection trying new things is always nice. Service is what you would expect from this caliber of restaurant . Set in a very historic building .
Unfortunately our holiday family dinner was disappointing.
The Boston location, at the beautiful old City Hall building, was in real rough shape. Tiered carpets, bathrooms yucky, and paint that looked like it was sprayed on by a kid along the kick boards and hand rails going downstairs (lot's of overspray.) The place is worn out and not worthy of the Ruth Chris brand. I used to love this spot. My suggestion is to try another steak house when visiting Boston until this RC'c gets it's act together.

Absolutely Excellent food and if you can believe it, the service was better than the amazing food. Ashlind was a FANTASTIC server. Friendly and funny. There wasn't a single thing we didn't enjoy. Worth the price tag
Ruined my celebration.
I'm giving this 2 stars because the food was good but my experience was awful. I told them I was celebrating Christmas and they seated my mother and I in the basement "freedom trail room" where it's the only room without a Christmas tree and it smelled musty. We ordered pretty quickly and I thought the smell would go away but it kept coming in waves. Turns out it was paint. Manager was nice about it but you'd think they would comp something or offer free dessert (not looking for freebies but still). Just a miserable time. The rooms upstairs were more grand. The basement room felt like I was eating fancy food in a cafe lounge. My mom describes it as "a dungeon."
What a lovely experience to dine inside Boston's Old City
What a lovely experience to dine inside Boston's Old City Hall with my even lovelier mama! I would've been happy to eat anything inside the old city hall, but was even more thrilled to have Ruth's Chris! Filet & lobster here was the ultimate surf & turf meal :) mom and I were literally the only people dining for dinner around 4pm haha. We ordered the classic pre-fixe course, only, I upgraded my filet to 11oz and replaced the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach for asparagus instead lol. We started off with warm ciabatta and lobster bisque, which was surprisingly really delicious. One of the most flavorful lobster bisque versions I've ever had with chunks of lobster in it. Then came the filet & lobster with Ruth's signature 500 degrees sizzling plate with garlic butter. Loved every single bite! So glad we got asparagus instead of something heavy like creamed spinach bc I was soo full already. But we still had to pick dessert omg. Asked for whatever was the smallest dessert, which happened to be the cheesecake. Though we couldn't finish the cute dessert, overall our experience was 10 out of 10! Our waitress was so sweet and kind, and happened to share she's also from California! Lol... what are the odds that we r all Californians enjoying Boston. Haha our view happened to be the graveyard right next door, so if you don't mind the spookiness at night, I'd def recommend dining here for din din! We hope to be back! :)
Interesting location for a steakhouse but I'm not
Interesting location for a steakhouse but I'm not complaining. The service was good and the steak was ok. I tried the lobster bisque and was underwhelmed, it was lukewarm and not as flavorful as I expected. I had high expectations due to it being in Boston. Overall their steaks are ok I've had better and it was my first time trying this franchise that I've heard a lot about.
Olive Garden level service
It's very sad because we've really enjoyed this restaurant for very special occasions. It's really gone downhill fast. When you are spending this much on a meal, the little things matter a lot. On this visit, we waited 50 minutes for our meal. All three of our entrees were off - the medium ribeye was well done, the medium well filet was medium rare, and the medium filet was medium well. Two of the three weren't even close. When the waitperson finally checked on us, she didn't even offer to fix anything, just said she'd ask the manager if they could comp some of the bill, and then we didn't see her again until we were almost finished. At the end they comped us the inedible filet and gave us a free desert. At least the sides were good. But it's just not what it used to be, and isn't worth it. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it was bought by the company that owns Olive Garden. It was definitely Olive Garden level service.
You should go!
Delightful meal in a beautiful environment. Service was first class. Ver impressed wi the steak and lamb chops. We never felt rushed and our evening couldn’t have been better.
Quality has declined since being sold to Darden Restaurants.
Wow! I have never seen a restaurant go down hill so quickly. I'm writing this in September 2023. The restaurant chain was sold in May 2023 to Darden Restaurants. The difference in quality is shocking. My steak was dry and tough. My wife had to send her steak back to be properly cooked. The mash potatoes were so runny when I took a bite, it spilled on my tie like milk. The beer was flat. $240 meal for two. We could have gotten a better meal for less than half at some chain like Outback. We both agreed we will never go back to Ruth Chris and this makes us sad because it used to be such a wonderful experience.
No the greatest steak in town
Had a dinner with a family of 9 The food was ok but nothing to write home about The Steak Fillet medium was a bit dry The food came out of the kitchen very slowly 4 desert came out after 20 minutes so some of us had to leave Staff was nice but not the most professional
Great food
Dinner was lovely but had asked for medium rare steak and got a medium steak. It was very tasty. Lobster matched the steak great too!
Ruth’s Chris is a consistent award winner.
Ruth’s Chris is always a winner. Consistently good food and fantastic service at all locations. The prices are high, but the food quality is definitely there for the price. Steaks or something or you gonna cut them with a fork. Only reason for the four-star review rather than five is because they have multiple course meals but only a few sides available on that package. Even though all signs are the same price on the menu they won’t let you choose the side you would like with the multicourse meal option.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
