I flew out of gate 18 on March 14th.
I have never seen an airport so filthy. The bathroom stalls, I tried 4 did not stay closed once locked. No place to hang a backpack or purse because if the stall had a hook it was on the door which just flew open. The shelves were hanging off the walls. The only stall for disabled patrons in the women's restroom was out of order. The floors at the gate were filthy with food and dirt. The women working the gate were rude and completely unhelpful until I asked for their names.

From the many airports that I have been to there have been under construction and the many that have the many changes and the many that have been changed to meet the changing areas of the many cities there have been those that have been changed to meet the rise in boarding gates and the adding of extra airport runways. With the many airports that you may travel to across the United States there are those that the feel of the many areas of grass and those that look like large airbases when you land you may see other aircraft other than commercial. With the San Diego International this is one Airport that when you come to San Diego you have the full view of the whole city on the approach you see the many areas and the land of the Sea and the beautiful bay. The ever-popular announcement from the captain saying," Welcome to San Diego that we have touched down please remain seated and with your trays in the upright position." When we come to the terminal is wait until the captain turns on the release your seatbelt sign and you can get your carry on in the overhead it may have shifted. The Airport does have the many things that are for those that have arrived for those that need wheelchairs they are there at the boarding and the departure gates. San Diego Innternational is watching all things even when there are left baggage that are not tagged and those that are tagged with the Airport Police that are monitoring all things at the front unloading area. Terminal 1 is one of the busiest with the many Airport ticket desks with the many busier flight companies such as the Southwest and the low-cost flight companies that service the many Northern States which service the areas of Utah and the areas of Colorado. Terminal 1 has the many stores that you can buy things for your flight and one of the best restaurants you can have one of the best charbroiled burgers and fries. When you come in the main doors of terminal 1 you see all the many terminal kiosks that help with your check ins with the confirmation number you have you can get your ticket and boarding pass is don't forget your confirmation number. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer with the many flights that I have been on to the many states of Nevada and to the state of Utah that has been some of the great flights with the many flights that leave from San Diego International the early morning flights you can have early morning breakfast at the many eateries at the boarding gates. Travel can be long when you bring something to read and the trip can be one of the best even with a great Walkman is the best to help you relax.

This terminal is by far too small for all the people who come through here for flights. On a Sunday afternoon, it looks like all gates have people waiting for flights, and it's packed. It's standing room only for many. Then when a flight arrives and passengers get off that plane, it gets even more crowded and you feel like you are swimming upstream if you are trying to go the other way for food or to get from the bathroom back to your gate.

Been taking my Southwest flights to Houston for almost a year now, and like the other reviews say the sitting area is not well designed and can get very crowded. This review is for the TSA for gate 15, 2/11/23 at 9am. She's useless and rude, she was wearing pink clear glasses and just stood there saying to people to push their stuff into the xray machine. Why wear gloves if ur not gonna touch stuff when people can't push it because they're in line? She thinks wearing a uniform gives her the privilege to do nothing. The gentleman on the other side was at least more kind to turn the trays the right way. How am I supposed to know what way they go ?? Better off having an automated machine like Walmart self check out. My flights have been on time :) so stars for that.

I have been flying to and from this airport for the past 4 years for school and unfortunately, there are few positives to write about this place. Starting from the security line, while there has been a CLEAR line implemented for Terminal 2, there isn't one here. There have been times when lines have almost reached the check in counter. After security is even worse; it is always full of people. I do only fly in the morning and near holidays, so I can't speak for any other times. It is hard to even find a place to stand, much less a seat to sit. Lounges are nonexistent and the one place where you can get food always has a long line (They do have really good breakfast burritos though). The bathrooms are dirty and there are no places to charge your phone. That being said, this airport will get you from point A to point B. I have never once had a massively delayed or cancelled flight. I think you just have to manage your expectations for when flying with Southwest at a small airport. Terminal 2 is way nicer, but that is not where a student gets his $49 flight home.
Be the first to ReplyI take my Southwest flights out of here.
Typically to Vegas or the Pacific Northwest. It's small compared to other airport terminals I've experienced but it works. I've never had issues flying out of here.
Be the first to ReplyIt has been four years since I wrote my review of terminal
It has been four years since I wrote my review of terminal one and I've come to the conclusion that two stars was far too generous. This is by far the most miserable airport experience I've dealt with in the United States. If this terminal was at an airport in the middle of nowhere I could maybe understand the size/layout. But for this to be the terminal for Southwest for a city the size and popularity of San Diego is ludicrous. Want to sit at a table to eat the food you just bought? You can't. There's no room for tables. Try to find room at one of the standing-only counters that are packed with people. Want to find a corner/wall/area that's not elbow to elbow with people? You can't. Want to make a quick trip to the restroom? You most likely can't because there will probably be a line for the facilities that are too small for this many people. Apparently this terminal was built in the 60's. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune a new terminal one is being constructed, with the first 19 gates "anticipated to open in late 2025". We've got more years of this nightmare, but at least the end is in sight.

No place to sit, no concourse, not enough restaurants/offerings, no plugs....ughI would think an "international airport" was better designed
Be the first to ReplyPack it up pack it in let me begin.
..by saying this is what sardines in a peel back can feels like. It's the pits to be honest. The arm pits. It smells bad. People on top of people. No empty seats at your own gate or ever. Often you'll see people sitting on the floor. Why? Well Southwest, Frontier, Spirit, and all the low budget airlines are in this upstairs circle with delayed flights. The crowd can get obnoxious and anxious waiting so close together for hours. There's only one bar and it's packed. Yes people get drunk here what else is there to do? It is expensive but know they give a heavy pour. If you're sitting away from your gate you might miss an announcement and your flight. The lines for the restrooms can get long and extend out towards the escalators where people are trying to rush up or down for the arrival or departure. It's just a mess. I can't wait for them to remodel and get it fixed. The airline workers are fun and outgoing so that makes up for the craziness. They do have seat phone chargers which is nice. This was after Southwest hub was taken away and not to mention all the traffic outside to get here. Even on an off holiday it gets bad later in the day. Recommendation: always fly early.

I'm a fan! There is a lot of construction due to expansion plans, but itnis quite easy to get around. We flew JetBlue and the terminal was bright, clean, airy and every seat had a charger. The people at TSA could not have been kinder and there are good food options. It was really easy to get around and explore. All in all, a very positive experience. There are some airports that I avoid, and this one is not one of them.

We got picked up at this terminal when we arrived to San Diego. This airport is a tad smaller and easier to find the baggage claim. There are a few places you can grab food or a snack. Traffic coming in here can be horrible. It depends on the time of day. Still not too bad.If you plan on parking, be prepared to pay by the hour. Prices have gone up. The airport is efficient and fast.
Be the first to ReplyTerminal 1 is the worst terminal I've ever been to.
The place looks like a refugee camp with not enough seats for everyone to sit down and the floors lined with people trying to find a place to sit. They don't even have chairs at some of the counters where you are supposed to eat your food. It's not well ventilated and has crappy and dingy restrooms. I'll avoid this terminal at all costs if I ever have to catch a flight out of here. Get your s$!t together San Diego Airport. This is 2022.

What the hell is going on with this terminal? How did they even design this super tiny place to fit like 10 gates is beyond me. People are on top of each other. No place to stand even. The fact that there is a Yelp page for this terrible place so that people can vent speaks to how bad this is. Management really need to do something about this shit hole
Be the first to ReplyThis terminal sucks.
I feel like a cow waiting to be slaughtered. The best thing about this terminal is the cute dog in front of me. I'd give this terminal 0 stars if I could.
Be the first to ReplyCrowded, tiny terminal for Southwest.
Very limited food options and no place to sit. Outdated. Poor safety compliance with masking. All around awful. This is the first time I've used this airport and hope it's the last.
Be the first to ReplyI love that SAN Terminal 1 has its own Yelp page, and I
I love that SAN Terminal 1 has its own Yelp page, and I will take full advantage of this by echoing the 1-star sentiments of my fellow travelers. Southwest passengers, beware! Terminal 1 is the inoculated agar plate of humanity, delayed flights, body heat, and nowhere to sit. Now, I'll take some of the blame for scheduling a late flight. We had a 3-hour wait at the airport due to our hotel check-out time. I could have scheduled an earlier flight, but it was more expensive. Pro-tip: Get the more expensive flight. It is not worth the savings to spend more time in Terminal 1 than necessary. Let's break down the charge. It is true: Southwest has been a little delayed as of late. My flight, for example, was delayed by 30 minutes. The problem with this is, given the meager square footage of Terminal 1, there are way too many people waiting for their flights. Forget about social distancing and get ready for some unprecedented intimacy with your neighbors. Imaginably, no amount of air conditioning can stave off the intense heat emanating from these impatient, sweaty bodies. It already feels awful enough, but consider the smell! It transcends into a taste that coats the inner linings of your mask. There is nothing you can do. Perhaps all of this would be okay if Terminal 1 had ample space to sit. Despite the eateries and shops, it is expected that patrons lean or stand the whole time. Of course, they don't, and who would? The seating areas by the gates are packed with people eating, drinking, commiserating, napping, and everything in between. Other travelers improvise and sit in the middle of the floor or by the bathrooms. At some point, you look around and realize, Terminal 1 is a slum. A traveler's slum. If you made it this far, I hope to have convinced you that Terminal 1 is not worth your time. Go through TSA and hop on your flight with seconds to spare; it may seem risky, but it's the most healthful approach to this filthy appendage of the San Diego Airport. Put another way, in the words of another reviewer, "Whoever designed this place is a dick."
Be the first to ReplyCovid unsafe, in case you were wondering.
Way too crowded to social distance. At least 35% are unmasked or only partially masked. I deeply regret hanging out in the waiting area.
Be the first to ReplyImpossible to social distance because the area is so small.
Overcrowded and Covid UNSAFE. Terminal 1 in desperate need of expansion and improvement of services. The restrooms have no air circulation- intake fans are filthy and clearly not operating because of overwhelming poo odor. America's Finest City can do better.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a follow up I have looked at for many months to
This is a follow up I have looked at for many months to look at people see when they have to take early morning flights the man y things that passengers face when they have to take early morning flights from the San Diego International . My Flight day was the Sunday August 15th heading to Las Vegas and the connection with San Jose that the many flights have been bought out with Southwest . The main Airport says its open 24hrs the looks of the many shops that tells a different picture because with many that do take late night flights from San Diego to many different areas . The many eateries that are at the upstairs boarding area tells that many eateries ar not open until after 600am yet the many stores are not open untill 700am . The many other sections can be the lower end of the airport because when you have the many early morning flights there should be places ready by flight schedules . The health code law has been a great Importance that so many people would be walking around with no mask on yet the spread of the covid 19 virus has become the most Important of them all . Is to have all passengers to wear a mask in the airport and remember the Importance of social distancing because the new issue of the Variant has come to life there will be more health code rules . San Diego International has been around for a long time the many airlines that would take off from here would be the most busiest airports considered to the many in the East Coats of the United States and the many southern states . From this one trip can be one of business and to see how well the Excalibur Hotel will be doing with health code procedures that have been in place in the many areas of Las Vegas . Taking my flight out of San Diego and to connect at San Jose that will be my connection over to Las Vegas Which I had made the flight that the San Diego International did a super job in the luggage transports and the and the connection . With the many early flights that leave San Diego there could be more eateries that could be open to help those passengers to get breakfast before there long fl;ighst home many of whom are from the South and the areas of New York . South West Airlines has been a driving force in the San Diego International when you come to San Diego you do see the many South West Boarding gates that show up at the many areas of the Airport . As a reviewer that when you come to the San Diego International you have alot to see and yes when you have a flight is arrive early so you can get through TSA quick;ly and be able to get food or something to drink .
Be the first to ReplyOmg this is the worst airport terminal I have ever been to.
I'm writing this review in the hopes that it will remind me to never try to get here early again. I have yet to visit Terminal 2 since I always fly jet blue when I come here, but I really hope that it's an upgrade from this. Both the security area and the gate area are abysmally small. Getting your stuff from the X-ray scanner at security is ridiculous because there is literally nowhere to stand. You feel like you're inappropriately close to the TSA agents who are working. It's just the weirdest layout. You get to the gate area and there is nowhere to stand (let alone sit). There's only one bar to eat at and, although the food is decent, the prices are psychotic. $17 for a 6 oz glass of wine? There's only one set of bathrooms in the most awkward place ever so that you're battling everyone coming off / getting on the escalators to get to the doors. Ridiculous. Whoever designed this place is a d*ck.
