Lovely place
Nice food and place. No complaints- just go and enjoy your food and time. Service was amazing. Location was very nice too.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food but perhaps slightly over priced
We came here as a birthday gift for my husband- we had a voucher for set menu. The decor and restaurant almost reminds me of a steakhouse we visited in NYC- I quite like it but I believe it is currently having a make over. We waited a strangely long time for our drinks to arrive; I actually asked the waiter if he could chase them up. My husbands cocktail was ridiculously small for the price we paid but both were tasty. We opted for the Beef Wellington which is supplemented- now although it is a lovely dish I’m not sure it is value for money- £77 for a three course “lunch time deal”. All the food was delicious and the service was very good- quite old school service which I quite enjoyed (holding coat out for you to put on). Overall, it is a definite must to visit here and experience the menu, service and building. Would I visit again? Irrespective of the price…definitely yes!

place was very full/noisy, waiter pretty friendly and quite knew his menu. food overall was good but we felt quite overpriced compare to other steak house

I had booked dinner for my husbands birthday. When we arrived we were sat in a corner which was both cold and noisy. We asked to be moved and to be fair the waitress ensured we had a table in the middle which was much better. The staff were professional but lacked any inclination to engage with diners. It was a strange atmosphere and we felt that they just wanted to serve you and get you out of there as quickly as possible. When dining out in most establishments you would expect conversation with the staff but we can only assume that they are told not to do this with customers as it was right across the board. We were then rushed to order desert and my husband was asked three times to place his order. Then to top it all halfway through him drinking his coffee we were asked to move. We were placed on the side where you collect coats. The cost for two people was £420 and for that I would expect better service. Needless to say I did not pay the extra £70 on top of that for the service charge. If I had to say a meal for two at £500 we would have expected to come away feeling like we had had such a special evening and this couldn't be further from the truth. I would say after visiting many restaurants (some with celebrity chefs) this comes very close to the bottom.

We visited in February after being given a voucher for Christmas for a 3 course lunch for two. We arrived and were shown to our table and given menus. After a few minutes the waitress took our drinks order, mine was a gin & soda, my husbands, a small beer. The wine choice although extensive seemed very overpriced. When the drinks came mine was with tonic so had to be returned. After more than 5 minutes when my husband asked where the correct drink was it was brought albeit with no apology. We both enjoyed our starters and the sourdough bread. When our plates were cleared there was a lot of crumbs on the tablecloth which I expected to be cleared but they were to remain there for our entire visit. Our mains, from a very limited choice, were ok but not outstanding. You have to order vegetables etc separately at £8 each which seems excessive. It was ordering our final course that things really deteriorated. The only choice was tiramisu or blue cheese. I explained to the waitress that my preference is always for cheese over a sweet option but I like any cheese other than blue, her response was to say “oh well, tiramisu it is then” before walking away, unbelievable. We have been fortunate to eat at many first class restaurants but this was definitely not a fine dining experience.

We’d received a ‘Buy a Gift’ voucher for Christmas and decided to use it on a lunch at The Savoy Grill. We’d booked for 2pm on a Thursday but due to unforeseen circumstances we were running late, I phoned the restaurant and they were extremely helpful in moving our table to 3pm even through they were really busy. The hotel is located in a lovely courtyard next to the Savoy Theatre with the grill restaurant off to the side of the main reception. It’s a beautiful hotel and felt very special. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and we were quickly seated and shown our set menu that we could have with our voucher. I had a Marilyn Monroe cocktail to start which was amazing I didn’t want it to end. At £16 I definitely savoured every sip! My husband had a beetroot starter, which he said was very pleasant. We’d heard that Gordon Ramsey is known for his beef wellington so we both opted for this even though there was a £22 additional charge each for this dish. It was absolutely beautiful, quite filling but really really tasty. We both enjoyed it. We chose a half bottle of red wine to accompany it, the cheapest we could find on the menu was £60 for a half bottle but it was really nice wine. We’ve since been trying to track down a bottle to have at home. Some of the wines on the menu were thousands of pounds! For dessert I had a coffee dessert and my husband opted for the cheese plate which was just one piece of cheese, he was quite full after the wellington though so it was quite enough. We’d planned to walk the South Bank after lunch so we were dressed smartly but comfortable too. I felt a little under dressed as people do really make an effort as it’s certainly a special occasion place.

I booked the table about a month previously but could only get the Monday night - we had just a week in London - but that was fine. The receptionist was friendly and took our coats and scarves (we are not used to February in London!) and showed us to our booth. The menus arrived quite swiftly as did my Negroni and her French 75, and we perused. Mrs P decided on the 2-course set which given the location and standard is good value at 42 quid, but we shared a starter of heirloom beetroot and burrata. I felt the Wellington was obligatory while Mrs P opted for roasted cod loin in a red wine sauce. The wine list was a bit lumpy, and I skipped the Ch Petrus section, finding a 2nd label Haut-Medoc instead at less than a ton so that was good. My Wellington was excellent, rare and top quality. The cod was pronounced excellent too. For dessert she went for a tiramisu and I dabbled at the cheese selection. Overall the service was faultless, efficient and engaging without being over-fussy, the ambience and Art Deco style is elegant and the whole experience was very enjoyable. Afterwards we managed to get a table in the American Bar and ran through a few cocktails before remembering I had to go to the office for an 8.30 meeting the next day... We are due to be in UK again in August and a repeat visit is highly likely.
Be the first to ReplyWouldn't bother going back
Despite having a £90 voucher with Virgin Experiences our 3 course set lunch was still £140. ! When I order a MEAL I expect the actual meal - not just the protein part. Each side dish was £8 ! Coffees were £6.50. The Set menu had 3 starters and three mains (though one carried a £22 supplement !!!). The wines were nice and the food was fine (my steak tartar starter was fabulous and my husband enjoyed his meal) however my duck was no better or worse than I've had anywhere else. The cheese was ONE triangle of blue cheese only - no cheddar, no brie. Very boring to just east one blue cheese ! The restaurant is dated (but apparently they were closing at the weekend for refurbishment? All in all, I have had better meals in other venues.
Be the first to ReplySeriously underwhelmed.
Been on the hit list for a fair old while, and following a trip to the theatre, finally got round to ticking the box. Plus points are obviously the prestigious venue, the central London location and undoubtedly the staff who were first class. Sadly, that’s where the good bits end. Food was okay, even good, but for the price charged it left us all totally underwhelmed. Second visit to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and unfortunately the same result. Maybe Gordon should pay more attention to his kitchens than his tv career. Far better places to go for similar amounts of money. Shame really.
Be the first to ReplySecond visit and not as good.
Nothing has really changed since we last went (which is fine because the interior is nice enough). The menu has more or less remained as was, which is fine too as there's enough on there for us to want. Not big eaters, we skipped the starter and went for main and dessert. They asked if we were celebrating anything (wife's birthday) and - at the end - brought my wife a little chocolate "happy birthday" cake which I thought was a nice touch. The waiter was friendly and happy, unlike the last time we went, although I couldn't help but feel they missed a trick when I said I wanted a good white wine to compliment my dover sole. The waiter didn't know so fetched someone else. They came over and just said "any of them, might as well get the cheap one". Given they have wine from £10 a glass to £42, I couldn't help but laugh at this comment. Still, I went with the cheap one and, yes, it was nice enough (not exactly blown away). When I go to Rick Stein's they always know the perfect wine to compliment the food and, every time, it is stunning. To be fair, this second gentleman was clearly having a down day though as he was just downright miserable and rude. Dover sole was "okay" this time. I wasn't blown away. If anything it was overdone. My wife's steak looked amazing (she said it was), desserts were thankfully small portions as pretty sickly! All in all we had a nice enough time but, it wasn't good enough to warrant going back again next time. Time to try somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyHusbands Birthday!!!!
I booked a table for my husbands birthday at the Savoy Grill on Sunday 31st July at 8pm. We arrived 10 minutes early and was told that our table wasn't ready so we could sit on 2 chairs by the reception and order a drink or could go to the American bar where they would come and get us. We then checked into the American Bar with the receptionist and explained that we were eating in the Savoy Grill and that they would come and collect us. We were advised to have a glass of wine as cocktails would take too long with us only staying in there a short time. 20 minutes later we had finished our drinks and no sign of anyone collecting us, so we then paid our bill and went back to the Savoy Grill which there was a different receptionist and was told that they couldn't find us, and after explaining again we were told that our table wasn't ready at 8.20pm. We were told to sit on the same 2 chairs by reception and to get a drink. At this point I said this was not off to the best of starts!!! Even thought we were checked in to the American bar so they would have known where we would have been sitting surely!!! We got seated shortly after and was presented a iPad with over 50 pages long to choose a wine 🍷 each wine was listed with its name country and price and no description of the wine!!!! This was frustrating as u have a sommelier walking around topping up customers glasses. We were given 2 glasses of champagne but no explanation why we were given them as it was my husbands birthday and also the confusion over the booking. The food was lovely but absolutely there was no customer service and no interaction with any of the staff at all. As it was my husbands birthday which they would have been aware of as I put this in the booking no mention of this what so ever. Overall the experience is not what we would have expected from such a prestigious venue. If the Savoy Grill had been as good the custom experience in the American Bar we would have been singing its praises. We left very disappointed as we had both been looking forward to this as we live in Devon and had travelled up for my husbands Birthday for the weekend. Many thanks
Be the first to ReplyRather underwhelming interior
Interior was dark. Art Deco style with a wenger wood panel but looks like it needs modernising. The floors was a Dark aged pattern carpets. Starters of beef tartare was too course. There was also a gamey nose to it although to tasted good. The accompaniment of potato chips didn’t go- was a smaller version of Pringles. Mains of duck was good- deboned and Mande Into a cylindrical piece with nice spice in the sides but dry. Fish was cooked well- just done but had a slight fishy smell. French fries was overpriced for £8. Desert- Caramel tart was more a Banofee tart and was very sweet. Service was ok.
Be the first to ReplyThe food and service were divine.......
The whole experience at dinner was faultless. Every element of the meal was of the highest quality, and the service was unobtrusive but spot-on.
Be the first to ReplyBeyond expectations
We were treated as if we were the only people that mattered; as if everybody had just been waiting for us to come to stay so that we could be spoilt and indulged at every turn. We felt like much-loved family members, for whom nothing was too much trouble. Our Junior Suite was beyond our hopes and we won't want to stay in any other when we do stay again. The quality of the food and the service was outstanding. Absolutely the best experience we could have had. One minor hiccup was more than compensated for.
Be the first to ReplyVery good food in a beautiful setting but venue needs more bar facilities !
We dined here again with friends whilst visiting London for a long weekend . We had been before and enjoyed both the food and ambiance of this iconic landmark hotel so reserved a table on a busy Saturday night . We arrived early and tried to have cocktails before at the American Bar, but it was full and so we went straight to the Savoy Grill. This hotel really needs to open another bar so restaurant and hotel guests can enjoy a pre and post dinner drink . The welcome at the Savoy grill was fabulous and we were granted early access to our table which was fabulous . Service was prompt and polite, drinks arrived and our food orders taken by the excellent waiting staff. For our food choices on this visit , Three of us had the Arnold Bennett souffle which was very nice, although perhaps not spectacular , the other choice of Mackerel was just OK . The bread however was warm and excellent . Main courses included three Beef Wellingtons , all of which were really enjoyable and cooked to perfection . The other choice was a medium rare fillet steak, but this arrived slightly over cooked and given the price level was perhaps slightly disappointing ! We asked the staff at the Savoy Grill to reserve us a table for after dinner cocktails at The American Bar which they confirmed they had arranged. We waited to be called by the American Bar, but this never happened and when we checked the American bar confirmed our reservation was made , but the request was cancelled . We did manage to make our own entrance into the bar , but we perhaps need and expect better service at this price level and again express the need for a larger or more available bar space at a hotel of this size . We enjoyed our Saturday evening , some room for improvement with the food at this price point and certainly perhaps we would chose to select a quieter night in future so as to avoid queueing for bar space so we could enjoy pre and post dinner drinks and the beautiful surroundings of this beautiful and well preserved venue .
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service
The service was awful. After having our starters we waited an hour before our mains turned up! We also had breakfast in the River restaurant as we were staying at the Savoy & the service was just as diabolical. After ordering drinks, coffee, water, & apple juice, we waited half an hour before they were served. Expected so much better. We’d return to the hotel but next time would choose elsewhere to eat.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed and underwhelmed
We have been to many Gordon Ramsey restaurants over the years and to the Savoy Grill before and thought this would be another lovely delicious meal. The staff were, as always very pleasant and helpful. However the Sunday lunch menu was dull and uninspired. The starters are reminiscent of what the Savoy might have served pre-war. As it was Sunday there were roasts of pork or beef in addition to the other dishes - all of which were somewhat pedestrian in the descriptions. To make the most of the main meal we did not have a starter. We don’t eat beef so chose the pork chop roast (£40) - beautifully cooked and the Duck (£45) - which was good - with a side dish of broccoli. To our surprise the Yorkshire Puddings came stuffed with beef and the gravy was made with beef stock, none of which was indicated on the menu. It was only the vigilance of the excellent staff that alerted us to this when the dish arrived at the table. It was then taken away and the replacement Yorkshire pudding was dark brown and over cooked and the dish of Bernaise sauce, which was bought ( without asking ) in replacement for the beef gravy, did nothing for pork chop meal. The roast potatoes were dry and hard and there were two thin glazed carrots accompanied by hispi cabbage which was tasty. Was this really the best they could do? The champagne was good but the muscadet was ordinary and at £12 a glass wasn’t as good as the bottle I could have bought at a decent supermarket. When the main meal was finished and being cleared the staff member asked ‘how was the food’ but by then it was too late. No-one had returned to our table to check how our meal was whilst we were eating it - a pretty basic rule of the hospitality industry. Overall an underwhelming meal and a disappointment. Come on Gordon Ramsey - get a grip.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing overall experience
Our overall experience was a let down, hence the rating. Our expectation of a visit to the Savoy was based on similar visits to the Ritz, and other similar hotels. Sadly the Savoy does not offer the same overall experience. It wasn’t possible Uk get a pre-dinner drink as only one bar was open (and full), the seating areas around the lobby very limited and also full. We had to leave the hotel for our pre-dinner drink and had to go past a group of heavy smokers in the entrance area, which was unpleasant. The meal in Savoy Grill itself was fine, good quality and decent service but the overall experience of what should have been a very memorable birthday experience was not on a par with the Ritz.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing.
I'm sad to say our experience at The Savoy Grill was disappointing. The service I can say was underwhelming to say the least. it wasn't bad but it wasn't particularly attentive, in fact I would go as far as to say we felt a bit neglected. When staying at The Savoy one thing that stands out is the service, in all departments, it's absolutely exceptional, probably the best I've experienced anywhere ever. The Savoy Grill lets the hotel down in the service department. The meal was mixed opinions between myself and my partner. The starters, Asparagus and The Souffle were just OK, nothing exciting, a bit bland. For the mains, I had the Beef Wellington which I have to say exceeded my expectations and was in fact delicious, and my partner had a rib eye, that he didn't eat and said it wasn't of good quality and quite tough even though it was cooked rare. No one questioned why there was an entire steak left on the plate when they collected them.
Overall it was a very expensive night that didn't really do anything for us. We don't mind paying the money if it's worth it and in this case, I don't think it was. We wouldn't eat there again. For half the price you can eat spectacularly elsewhere.
An amazing lunch, perfect food.
I went for the set lunch menu yesterday and wow, what an absolute treat.
I had the beef Wellington as a main, and I have to say one of the best beef wellingtons I have been had.
A lovely great relaxed vibe, with absolutely amazing staff who are very knowledgeable.
I can’t wait to go back.
A wonderful experience
I dined as a birthday celebration with my family and had a really lovely evening. The service was spot on, the food delicious all with a very relaxing atmosphere. I would choose to dine again upon our next celebration! Thank you to all the staff who made the dinner very special.

Bought as a buyagift offer - fabulous food and the service and staff were wonderful. Couldn’t do enough for the customers. We weren’t rushed at all and would recommend for a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth the wait!
We booked early in the new year for a Friday evening dinner reservation for two in April. It was delightful from start to finish in the Savoy Grill. Service impeccable and menu choices were divine. Plenty of staff to assist, we loved being seated in a corner booth and could watch the restaurant at work. The decor and surroundings are magnificent. It was such a treat to have a couple of conversations with Mr Tomasin too, he's an admirable ambassador for the restaurant. Looking forward to another visit.
Be the first to Reply“Does anyone taste the food before it goes out”
2 out of 5 based on reputation and expectation!
Arrived expecting a fabulous meal in fabulous surroundings: the surroundings of course lived up to expectation; the meal did not!
As “Chef Ramsay” used to say on Kitchen Nightmares….” Does anyone actually taste the food before it goes out?”
My son had the haddock soufflé to start- he said it was tasteless. My wife wasn’t sure what she received in the end- a half boiled egg with some green sauce poured round it- which she said was disgusting. My parfait was lovely 1/3
Main course- 2 ribeyes and the cod. Cod bland. My ribeye was at least 50% fat- what sort of chef cannot spot that. It’s just laziness and not right at £49! My sons ribeye was gorgeous. 1/3
Dessert- how can you have 3 poor desserts?0/3
The wine and cocktails were great!!
3 course champagne lunch
Virgin experience voucher gift of a champagne lunch for 2. The food was utterly delicious and very filling. The service was excellent and the restaurant is beautiful. From the lady who seated us to the sommelier, they could not have been nicer. Previous reviews really don’t do it justice.
My only criticism, is that I didn’t realise we would have to pay for the veg and potato dish to go with the main course. You wouldn’t just eat cod on its own for lunch (I don’t think.) So there is extra cost, but all in all it was very much worth it.
