Been meaning to write these guys a review for 5+ years.
The Mafaldini Scampi is legitimately the best pasta dish I've ever had, and I've been to Italy! I dream about it sometimes. Not in a weird way, just... do yourself a favor and go here. Bring a date. Beautiful space. Great service. Delicious drinks and even more delicious food. What more can you ask for!?

The restaurant is super cute but unfortunately the food was subpar. The flavour profiles just didn't work for me - either over powered or missing an element. 1/ Fluke Crudo 2/ Braised Pork Ravioli Our waiter though was excellent and offered fair portion recommendations instead of up selling! Would drop in for a drink at the bar, but will skip the eats.

Made a reservation a week before for a party of 4 on a Saturday evening. Restaurant was really busy so service was a little slower. We ordered the signature scampi and squid ink pasta. I was disappointed because I would've liked more cheese / saltiness on the scampi, and the squid ink was too salty. However, their Pineapple Express cocktail was really refreshing!
Be the first to ReplyReserved this place for a dinner with my best friend.
Both of us were huge fans of scampi pasta and were very excited to try this place. The restaurant was very well decorated although the ambience was potentially a little too dark? It was very loud though and my best friend and I constantly felt as if we were having to yell at each other to be able to hear. I don't know if I would recommend for a date spot.Service was extremely good. Our waitress was attentive and very bubbly. We ordered 2 pastas to share. The "signature scampi" and a ravioli. Both were good but not spectacular. I do have to admit I was disappointed with the scampi pasta as it tasted very dry and was overall very bland. I've had better scampi at places where the dish wasn't the restaurant's namesake. To finish, we ordered the olive oil cake. It was... decent. The cake was not very floury so it felt very "full" with each bite. It was alright... but I'm not sure I'd re order.Overall, a decent place but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to try again. I was leaning towards 2 stars but decided to give 3 given the quality of the service of the staff.

What a wonderful dinner! Planned my birthday dinner and made reservations 4 weeks in advance. When I arrived shortly before 7pm on a Friday night in the winter, the restaurant was empty... the friendly host escorted me through the lounge, then dining area to a room off of the main dining room with zero ambiance .. I quickly requested to move my table to the main dining room and they accommodated me. 30 minutes later the restaurant was packed. I get it, fill the lesser desirable table locations first if you can. My birthday dinner started with a little frustration over this occurrence but it was quickly remedied as soon as my friend arrived and our fabulous server appeared. I already knew I wanted their signature malfadini scampi, but still asked our server to explain a few other dishes. He did such a wonderful job explaining without over selling. We both got the malfadini and then the fluke crudo, tuna crudo and cauliflower. Everything was great, but I would definitely return for the malfadini scampi and the fluke!
Be the first to ReplyIn a city with a lot of good restaurant options, Scampi
In a city with a lot of good restaurant options, Scampi stands above the crowd. Yes their food is amazing, especially the pastas. The vibe is fun, cool, warm, cozy. The drinks are great. But the service and hospitality, including from the owner PJ Calapa, is unmatched. I've been several times, and try to get a new pasta each time. The Italian crudo (raw fish) is also pretty spectacular . Also very accommodating to my dairy allergy.

Scampi was a great option for a dinner on a Saturday night when we hadn't planned ahead as we were able to get a reservation at 7 pm for 8 pm. There was plenty of open bar seating as well.Note that the cauliflower has changed. When I was looking at pictures it looked like it would be an entire head of cauliflower but what I got was much more like a side dish (which would have been fine except I was having it as my main). It was also oddly a bit cold, lukewarm at best but otherwise good. Luckily we also had the little gem salad as a starter to share (which was great), so the combination of the two was enough. Upscale vibe and not too crowded or loud.

Good option for a cozy Italian dinner spot that's midrange for price with a delicious signature scampi dish. We got the shaved Brussels sprouts and Mafaldini scampi for dinner. The portions are decent, but not as ginormous as some pictures might have you think. The mafaldine soaked up the buttery sauce perfectly and the shrimp was quite good too. To their credit, the Brussels sprouts salad was neither tough nor bitter - a bit small, but tasty. My main hope for this restaurant is to see more apps on the menu. For dinner, there are no real apps and you basically have to jump right into entrees, which are either too much or too little. My sister and I were mostly here for the pasta but couldn't commit to two full pasta dishes, yet our order was just short of filling for two people - we really could have done with a good appetizer.

I didn't have high expectations coming here because I didn't choose to come here and was invited to a sit-down dinner event here. I was SO impressed by their service, how well they dealt with dietary restrictions, and how delicious the food was. I tried (with modifications) the tuna tartare, the ribeye, cranberry sorbet, and hazelnut dessert. The hazelnut dessert was heaven. I also cheated a bit and had a few bites of the shrimp scampi, and it was well worth it. The noodles were so yummy and perfectly chewy. Would definitely come here again!
Be the first to ReplyI was craving some pasta and Scampi totally hit the spot.
Their namesake dish (shrimp scampi with mafaldine pasta) is a showstopper. Don't judge, but my friends and I shared this as an appetizer course and this was the right move. It's not a huge portion but is so quality and we savored every bite. The pasta comes with a generous amount of shrimp and is topped with crunchy and savory bread crumbs. I wish that they had more appetizer options, probably the reason that led us to ordering some extra pasta. There is only a crudo and vegetable section. For my main, you guessed it- more pasta. This time I went with the sausage and broccoli campanelle which was served in the creamiest and most buttery sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and all of the flavors worked so well together. I scarfed down the entire bowl. We also shared some shaved brussels which were sort of like a greek brussels salad. I liked the feta cheese and the vinaigrette. Service was great and overall the restaurant has a really nice vibe. It's dimly lit and well decorated, a fun spot for a group dinner or a date. There aren't many spots in Flatiron that feel like this and serve pasta (at least I wasn't able to find any). Scampi was definitely a solid pick!

Great food, terrible pour of wine for $16 after being there twice now...could do much better.
Be the first to ReplyGoing to keep this one short and sweet.
Ambiance (4/5): Very dark in there, but sets an intimate and upscale scene. Kitchen closes 30 minutes before closing time. Mid-high price point. Service (5/5): Our server (Maximiliano based on the receipt) was amazing. Attentive, friendly, informative, quick, everything you can think of. FOOD: ~Shrimp scampi (5/5): lives up to the reputation. Such good balance of flavors. ~Razor Clams (5/5): Small portion, but the flavors were so on point~Branzino (3/5): Good, but nothing particularly spectacular Overall, if anything, just get the shrimp scampi mafaldine pasta

I've seen this place all over Instagram and I can finally see why. First of all the ambience is super nice on the inside; it's very well decorated and gives a cozy vibe. Although on weekends/nights it can get kind of loud and dark. Their most famous dish is probably the scampi pasta, which I think has shrimp, butter and breadcrumbs with some sort of kinked pasta. It was very very tasty and tasted super fresh. Service was a bit slower but given a Friday night nothing unreasonable. Staff are very nice and attentive; my waiter recommended me a squash & burrata dish that was so good. I think it's definitely worth a try!

4 stars! I came here for brunch and got the cannoli French toast and the mafaldini. The French toast was really good. Loved the cannoli filling and it wasn't extremely sweet. The mafaldini was also ok. Looking forward to going back for dinner and trying more of the menu!

Ill say the ambiance at Scampi is very warm, inviting and friendly. The portofino drink was tasty. I ordered the Brussels salad and throughly enjoyed it. For a starting salad it was also a nice portion. I ordered the Malfadini Scampi and thought it tasted fine. The fish flavor of the shrimp was very pronounced maybe a little too much for my liking but not too bad.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was honestly quite disappointing.
I came because I had heard great things about the pasta, and I was particularly excited about the Mafaldini. It honestly didn't seem that special, it wasn't particularly flavorful and there wasn't much to the dish other than the pasta. My friend had the Branzino which she seemed to enjoy, but neither of us were particularly excited about our food. Our whole meal went by very quickly and it felt like we were just ready to get out of there unfortunately. Finally, everything felt quite expensive and like a pretty poor value for what we were eating. I wouldn't return.
Be the first to ReplyEverything about this restaurant was wonderful.
The food, the staff, the drinks. I started off with the sanguigno which was lovely and then i was happy when they were able to make me a limoncello spritz! We got all 3 toasts to split for the table and they were great. I think the fluke one was my favorite, but the tuna was amazing too. The ribeye panino was my absolute FAVORITE. You have to order one! Out of the pasta, the mafaldini was great. The carbonara on the other hand tho was good, but a little dry for my taste. The smashed potatoes were a great side and my friends said they loved their scrambled eggs and little gem salads. Will be coming back for dinner in the near future!
Be the first to ReplyScampi is such a romantic restaurant.
I love the ambiance inside, I felt so in love!!! The decor was so beautiful and I just kept staring around. We were lucky enough to get seated with no reservations on a Saturday night. It was super busy inside. We were seated in the high bar chairs and the menu was simple and I wanted to eat everything! We ordered 2 pastas and an entree. I love the bread sticks that came out with this tomato salsa, it was so refreshing. We ordered: Campanelle, mezzaluna, and the chicken entree. Our cocktail of the night was the quemadito- it's a must have!!!! It's Smokey from the mezcal and strong. The pastas were so good, I really wanted to pick up the plate and lick up the sauce. The campanelle was not heavy at all and was the perfect amount of broccoli rabe and sausage. The mezzaluna had some plumped raviolis filled with ricotta and pork. Oh my lord, and the pomodoro sauce was so fresh!!!! The chicken entree took the longest but it was great. It was very flavorful and juicy. The polenta was rich but not too heavy. After these 3 dishes, we did not have room for dessert. We will definitely come back to try more dishes!!!

Three of us came here for brunch and really enjoyed the cocktails and the spicy tuna toast. Service was fast and friendly. Only reason for the loss of a star is that the eggs in purgatorio had some sort of meat that had a really weird texture and that tasted like cardboard (and we don't have covid).

Giving Scampi 5 stars because the Instagram-famous malfadini scampi dish was 100% worth the hype! It was a very flavorful dish and I would definitely recommend it. Me and the rest of my group enjoyed all of our food and cocktails. The staff was friendly. We were asked to get moving towards the end when we were chatting. We had a reservation and probably had about 2.5 hours at the table but it was getting busy and the manager was super polite about it. If you don't dine in cities often just be familiar with that. The atmosphere was great. I loved the decor and ambience. It's like a modern, but an at-home boho vibe. It looks like if West Elm or Anthropologie had a restaurant. Totally fun and an easy spot to meet up with friends and have a great meal.

Scampi was a great spot for our Girls Night Out! We ordered the Tuna Acqua Pazza which came out way too salty we requested to switch it out for the Red Snapper Ceviche which was way better! We had the Mafaldini Scampi and the Cappelletti! I personally didn't feel like it was enough food with the Cappelletti dish but the Scampi I'll be ordering next time it was delicious! The chocolate pudding dessert was great! Drinks are tasty and strong too!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious food and drinks.
We ordered the butternut squash pasta and burrata and it was delicious. We also ordered drinks and we're very impressed. They were comparable to an exceptional cocktail bar. They also have outdoor covered seating with heat lamps so you can dine outdoors. I will be coming back!!

We went here for a celebratory dinner and since we love a good pasta, I had bookmarked this spot for some time. We had a reservation and were seated promptly upon our arrival. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful and gave great recommendations over the course of our meal (his service was top notch). As for the dishes, we got the cauliflower and calamari to start and a Zenzero cocktail. The cocktail was well balanced, a whiskey base paired with honey and lemon. I typically enjoy these flavors and it was a great drink to sip on over the course of the meal. The cauliflower was delicious though we were slightly disappointed by the serving size. Slight char with the sauce made for a great few bites with an enjoyable texture. Our waiter did warn us that the calamari was more like a salad but we wanted to try it anyway. Couldn't fault him or anyone since it was certainly more greens than calamari. The watercress got in the way of the other flavors but the pieces of squid were seasoned well. For the mains, my sister got the spaghetti with clams and I got their famous malfadini scampi. My sister thoroughly enjoyed her spaghetti and the breadcrumbs on top were a nice touch as well. I enjoyed the texture of the scampi and the pasta as well. However, there is a very strong seafood flavor that envelops the whole dish and it was a bit too much for me after the halfway point. The waiter explained that they use lobsters to make a broth and that the pasta is then cooked in this broth. It makes for a very rich seafood taste which unfortunately I didn't end up appreciating as much.Since this was to celebrate a belated birthday, we got the semifreddo for dessert and were gifted a cannoli as well. The semifreddo was a bit crunchy at points with some chunks being quite hard to bite but was enjoyable nonetheless.Overall, we had an enjoyable meal with a great waiter. If you like the taste of lobster broth, the malfadini scampi is for you but consider trying something else if you're not a fan of those types of flavors. The seafood and pasta here is made well, would definitely recommend coming and we'd definitely be interested in trying out their other dishes as well!
