SingleThread Farm - Restaurant - Inn Healdsburg Reviews
We opted for a 4:30 pm dinner since we had a long drive
We opted for a 4:30 pm dinner since we had a long drive there and an equally long drive back and we did not want to get back too late. There's a good amount of parking around the area, but if you come early there's actually a small parking lot you are allowed to use. Service was really well done - before we entered the restaurant, we were trying to take selfies outside the restaurant. The hostesses somehow noticed, came outside, and took photos for us. The servers were also super friendly, professional, and it was fun talking to each of the different servers we got. Ambiance was super nice. For the majority of the meal, we got sat in a corner booth. We loved how big the table was, as well as how comfortable the seats were. At the end of the meal, we got to sit on the rooftop and enjoy the sunset, as well as sit in front of the firepit. Food: - Most of the courses were amazing. Aesthetically stunning and I could see lots of technical details in the sauces, how the ingredients were prepared, etc. - There was a heavy focus on produce (vegetables). I kind of liked this, but for some courses it felt a bit much. There was one dish that was focused on tomatoes that I thought was good, but a bit too produce forward for me. Another dish paired duck mousse with lettuce, which was fine, but I thought it would have been more enjoyable with a bread/carb instead. - I really disliked one dish because of their usage of bittermelon (or at least some type of bitter eggplant). I actually could not finish it All in all - was a wonderful experience from food to service. The food was mostly all delicious and memorable.
Easily one of my top 3 favorite restaurants of all time!
Easily one of my top 3 favorite restaurants of all time! Celebrated a milestone anniversary with my husband here over the weekend. The moment we approached the door, they greeted us by name. They took us to a little window were we can glimpse the chefs working; where they also presented us with a welcome drink. After that, we were led into a smaller room past the kitchen with a fireplace against the back wall. We were seated and given a brief introduction of Single Thread, the owner's inspiration of Japanese inspired dishes given their five year stay in Japan. After our trip to Japan, our love for anything related to Japan grew so we appreciated the Japanese influenced menu. The room we dined in had walls that remind us of shoji, the wooden frame sliding doors in Japan covered in washi, a Japanese paper or cloth. The delicious 10 course meal started with a presentation of wood covered with fresh florals with 9 mini bites of what is yet to come. I asked for a matcha latte which their served with a leaf art. Each course bought colorful, Japanese influenced dishes meets farm-to-table Sonoma County (Single Thread has a 24 acre farm in Healdsburg where a majority of their greens, herbs are grown). I enjoyed the explanation of each dish, the ingredients and where it comes from. Some notable dishes were of course the A5 wagyu and I recommend getting the wagyu supplement. My absolute most favorite thing about Single Thread is their farm! We tasted so many fresh vegetables, flowers, herbs, tomatoes and grapes within the dishes. The next morning, we embarked on their farm tour to see where the food we ate came from as well as being able to taste fresh strawberries, tomatoes, peppers etc. We saw chefs out there on the farm picking out different ingredients for their dishes. It was truly amazing to see the growing process, harvesting process to ending up on kitchen, your plate, and leftovers crops gets sent back to the farm for composting. Truly farm-to-table and enjoyed eating from the bountiful crops grown locally in Sonoma County. If you are wondering about dress code, it is "Wine County Casual". Think of what you would wear to Wine tasting. Mens would be polos, button down with khakis with some stylish sneakers. For Women, sundresses, a nice top with jeans or capris and stylish wedges or sneakers. Come with an empty stomach as there are many dishes to eat. The only thing I would change is I prefer to have the menu in the beginning so I can see what courses to expect instead of having it in the end to take home. Otherwise, an all around amazing dinner, one that I will never forget.
Phenomenal 2 day stay
Everything about our stay was perfect! Some of the best food I’ve had and we’ve been to a number of other 3 Michelin star restaurants. In room dining was great as well. We got a chance to tour the farm as well which was an awesome experience.
Everything was phenomenal.
Food was amazing and everyone we met was incredibly friendly. Can't wait to come back!

We went to SingleThread with high expectations and they were met. The entirety of the experience was not perfect, but it came darn close. Our reception by the staff was nothing short of excellent. The ambiance, decor, and warm wood feel of the interior was sumptuous, elegant, yet welcoming. I did not feel like I was in a stuffy restaurant. The presentation of each dish was excellent. The amuse-bouches stole the show early on, and were presented on an incredible platter featuring real plants. The courses were all 8/10 or more. Everything was carefully sourced and incredibly fresh. The wine pairings were tasteful and creative. I sometimes spring for the more expensive pairings but was thoroughly pleased with the selection of mostly new world wines (read: excellent wines from California). The roof was also quite lovely, although the service slowed down there quite a bit. We waited longer than we would have liked for our coffee, which was delicious and warm. 98/100 is not perfect. But Single Thread earns its three stars and my utmost respect. It's worth the trip to Healdsburg.
Hands down the most beautiful, delicious and exquisite
Hands down the most beautiful, delicious and exquisite dining experience we've ever had. The farm to table concept combined with friendly and efficient table service and beautifully presented, creative, and mouthwatering small bites made this a unique and super enjoyable evening. We also stayed at the Inn and enjoyed a terrific complimentary breakfast next morning. All of the SingleThread staff are friendly and helpful in every way as well. We brought our mini labradoodle with us and she stayed in a crate in our room during dinner. Staff were welcoming to her as well!

Despite being a Michelin 3-star restaurant, the Japanese-American style dishes didn't quite live up to the hype. Service-wise, there's nothing to complain about, it was flawless. But I couldn't quite understand why they gave us the menu at the very end. Anyway, the first presentation dishes were visually stunning and elaborate, but because it was pre-set, the oyster wasn't cold enough. I appreciated that they have their own farm and offered a variety of vegetables, but throughout the course (even considering the season), there was an overwhelming amount of tomato. At some point, it almost felt like a vegetarian menu with just a bit of meat and seafood thrown in. The worst dish was the wagyu served over rice with pickled carrot. There was like a green thing inside the wagyu, becuase of that, it became overwhelmingly greasy toward the end. The desserts didn't really stand out for me. Too much berry focused desserts. I wanted to have some sweet desserts at the end. Overall, the service was excellent, but the food didn't match my expectations for a Michelin 3-star level experience. It's good to try once, but I don't think I would come back.
It's rare to find a place where the restaurant and the inn
It's rare to find a place where the restaurant and the inn are equally extraordinary, but that's exactly what SingleThread is. The only 3-Michelin-Star restaurant and 3-Michelin-Key hotel combo in the U.S., and yet somehow it still exceeded expectations. We came for the dinner ... and what a dinner. A meticulous, emotional, story-driven 10-course meal that shifted between Japanese precision and Sonoma soul. Every element had intention. Highlights included the duclair duck, which was genuinely a statement dish: deep, savory, and plated with the elegance of a masterclass. Japanese dishes anchored in tradition, but executed with modern finesse. Seasonal ingredients from their own farm just minutes away. And yes, caviar. But handled with restraint. This wasn't showy. It was sincere. But what I didn't expect was how seamlessly that same ethos of care carried through the entire stay. The inn isn't just a place to sleep; it's a continuation of the philosophy behind the restaurant. The inn offers only five suites, and yet the experience feels grand--like you're the only guest in the world who matters. From the rooftop garden to the smart in-room details (the matcha-grinding machine and Aesop products were especially appreciated), everything felt like it was designed to anticipate and support your comfort. We woke up to soufflé pancakes, soft scrambled eggs with caviar, and the best heirloom tomato toast we've ever had. There was Koshihikari pesto rice under sunflower seed furikake, perfectly grilled saba, and fresh rhubarb jam paired with honey biscuits. All served in our private kitchenette with the same precision as dinner the night before. SingleThread is quiet luxury at its best. Thoughtful, purposeful, and intimate without ever trying too hard. Major credit to Kyle and Katina Connaughton, and to the team for making this a weekend we won't forget.
We were incredibly lucky to score a last-minute reservation
We were incredibly lucky to score a last-minute reservation at SingleThread, and it turned out to be one of the most unforgettable dining experiences we've ever had. From the moment we stepped in, the vibe was serene, refined, and deeply intentional. The aesthetic blends modern elegance with warmth, and every little detail -- from the table settings to the way you're welcomed -- sets the tone for what becomes so much more than just a meal. We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairing, and wow -- it was a lot of food and a lot to drink (next time, I'll probably share the pairing with my wife!). That said, starting the evening with a glass of Dom Pérignon was the perfect way to begin. Each course that followed was visually stunning, masterfully executed, and packed with flavor. I had the vegetarian tasting menu, and I can honestly say it was the best plant-based meal I've ever had -- creative, complex, and deeply satisfying. Every bite felt like a story. We arrived in Healdsburg early after finishing a wine tasting nearby and hoped to relax on the rooftop, which we'd heard great things about. Unfortunately, we were told guests can only access the property about 45 minutes prior to their reservation, so we ended up hanging out across the street, where we chatted with some amazing locals. In the end, it just added to the charm of the town and the evening. The service throughout was graceful, attentive, and seamless. With it being a 3 star restaurant, it didn't feel stuffy. It was approachable and inviting. We laughed so much with our waiter. The open kitchen gave us a fascinating look into the calm, focused energy behind each plate. It was like watching a well-choreographed ballet in chef whites. If you're thinking about going -- just go. This place is the real deal, and worth every moment (and every penny - it was not cheap, but there is so much value for the whole experience) It's not just a restaurant, it's a full-on experience. The welcome card was also such a nice touch to start the evening, with a personalized signed copy of the menu to close it out. We're already thinking about when we can come back without our friends.
I have eaten at SingleThread when it was awarded One
I have eaten at SingleThread when it was awarded One Michelin Star, Two Michelin Stars, and now Three Michelin Stars! The ambiance and service have been equally exquisite each time! This remains one of my three favorite restaurants on the planet and I will definitely come back again! To be honest, they have increased the prices of the various Wine Pairings and, unfortunately, the wines still are fairly young. Which is odd, because they have an exceptional Wine List with both depth and breadth. We ordered a bottle of white and a bottle of red, then some dessert wine by the glass, and that felt like more volume and higher quality (at least more bottle age) even though it was admittedly fewer varietals overall. Our reservation was late in the evening, and a breeze had picked up, so we did not go sit up on the roof by the garden, which has been a highlight of prior trips. Next time for sure, I will go back up there! Speaking of their garden, they grow -- and served -- the most delicious tomatoes I have ever had and a "melon cucumber" our server (one of at least 9 who helped us throughout the evening!) described as "the cutest fruit on the property" ... and it was!!!
Fully Deserving of 3 Michelin Stars - both the Restaurant and the Inn
My second time staying at Single Thread and it was even better than the first time! The suite was beautiful, extremely comfortable and luxuriously serviced. I loved that it both had a balcony, so I could sit out in a leafy shaded area and watch the world go by in the cool late afternoons, as well as a fireplace to warm the room and make it feel cozy when I felt chilled in the later evening. The breakfasts served at Single Thread are probably the best I've ever had anywhere. Not to mention the delectable multi-course hot pot donabe dinner impeccably served in my room on the second night. And, of course, the highlight is that every inn guest is guaranteed a dinner seating at the 3-star Michelin restaurant downstairs. Every course was beautifully presented, carefully explained and tantalizingly delicious - thoroughly deserving the 3-star Michelin rating. And I can't say enough about how excellent the service was. My every need was anticipated, the courses came in a nice even flow with just the right amount of explanation, and every staff person was friendly and professional. Staying and eating here is definitely an experience of a lifetime, and I look forward to returning again!
Yup 1 star .
Pretty foliage arrangements, ambiance aiiight. Service was sterile, food was quite literally tasteless. Missed the mark by a lot.
We were very excited to dine at Single Thread.
We enjoy dining in fine restaurants but this was certainly our most expensive meal to date. We arrived early for our 4:45 reservation (only time available, but with 10 courses ahead of us, it seemed a good plan to start early!) so we were escorted to the roof to see the view and checkout the hallway of the rooms in the inn. We came back down for a lovely cup of cold tea, and watched the kitchen work. We were seated at our very generously sized table, and presented with a gorgeous array of small sushi-type bites. Our server described them all (hard to remember everything). We tasted some lovely things, and some things I didn't love. The oyster in rhubarb was okay, didn't love the mussel, but the various fish bites were delicious. The salad was not to my taste. There was a green in it that was soapy and floral. The sommelier stopped by and we decided to split the least expensive ($300) wine pairing, but he insisted we needed two glasses of champagne to celebrate our anniversary, so he gave us an extra glass. He was wonderful through the whole meal and we thoroughly enjoyed trying and pairing new wines which we otherwise would not have known about. The warm potato uni dish that accompanied the mussel was one of the best things I ate. Light and ethereal. The duck liver parfait was another favorite. Unctuous duck liver, bright apricots and crunchy almonds and lettuce made a perfect dish. The sushi and strawberry was not to my taste. Strange flat rectangle of squid? Fishy ahi and tasty strawberries. At this point I was done. The thought of 6 more courses was overwhelming. Next (I think I was getting close to food coma) was a fish with squash blossom which we liked. The tomato course had highs and lows. The creamy cheese foam with tomato gelee was amazing, as was the gazpacho. The tomato fish tartare and the fried tomato , not so good and the brioche was greasy. The duck dish was wonderful. Perfectly cooked duck, with gorgeous, tiny turnips, rich au jus and some crumble. Next was mushroom and morels, good, but I was so full. Dessert was mixed. Cocoa nib cigar good, olive oil sorbet, not so good, cake, okay. The whole meal had some excellent textures, but I didn't love all the flavor combinations. Service was wonderful, the ambiance was lovely. As much as we enjoyed the experience, for the price and tastes, I don't need to return and I'm not sure I would recommend it. It's quite simply too much food, and too expensive for us to repeat.
An amazing, amazing experience.
It's hard to put in words, best restaurant I have ever experienced. I don't know how they do it. I cannot wait to have an opportunity to return, It was in December, I believe the Holiday tasting menu. Yes it's expensive, yes it's worth it!
Enjoyed our night at SingleThread with set menu and wine
Enjoyed our night at SingleThread with set menu and wine tasting pairing. First impression is that this restaurant is gorgeous surrounded by fresh flowers. The decor was luxurious and beautiful. The first dish definitely got the wow factor and paired amazingly well with dom perignon. Another highlight is duck liver purée with salad. Surprising pairing of sake with fish and then mushroom rice with Syrah (probably my favorite of the night). Well prepared duck and all sorts of desserts.
Loved loved loved the Inn!
We didn’t expect such a wonderful experience at the Inn !!! We needed a place to stay and wanted to guarantee a reservation at the restaurant. Much to our surprise the Inn was our favorite part of the experience!!! Helped along by our “fairy godmother” Mindy who took great care of us from start to finish! The rooms are over the top beautiful with incredible attention to detail and very generously stocked with fabulous wine, beer, non alcoholic drinks and lovely snacks - including the best homemade ice cream ever! And gorgeous glassware and plates and flowers. Love that. The bathrooms were ridiculously fun with toilet lids that lift for you on approach - haha! - and warm seats! Loved that little surprise. And you can order (fully complimentary) cheese and charcuterie boards or oysters to enjoy with the wine/beer up on the fabulous roof top deck. Incredible. And then there is breakfast - we also took that on the beautiful roof top - the Japanese breakfast is its own performance from a cart brought to your table with an extensive array of all kinds of delicious bites. Delicious and so much fun! What else ? We drove an electric car and Mindy made sure to share the staff charging port with us. And also my husband had an extended emergency business meeting after we checked out and she made arrangements for him to privately use the study for 3 additional hours. Incredibly helpful and very kind! Our only negative experience was poor turndown service our last night - not sure what happened there because everything else was literally perfection and beyond !

Took my wife for a combo-birthday-anniversary trip and everything was fabulous! From prior to arrival to departure, every detail was taken on; Brianna, our contact, followed through on all our requests and even went above and beyond with personal attention. Dinner was an incredible experience and we would strongly recommend the inn and restaurant. It is obvious why they get the accolades they do.. 10 stars!!!

Exceedingly exceptional!
Exceedingly exceptional is all I can think of… I have been in the hospitality industry, managing four and five star hotels and private clubs all my career, 45+ years which actually started in Healdsburg! I can honestly say I've never stayed at a place with better food, or better service, or better facilities than Single Thread. All the contact before arrival was incredible. We were celebrating an anniversary as well as a birthday at the same time and Brianna did a fabulous job with all our perfunctory requests and messages. They even offered a free test drive of an electric Audi which we were happy to try out, and we were able to see the farm and enjoy the afternoon out before our dinner. Again, Brianna went over and above to make sure we had everything we needed. Then the dinner - WoW - it was incredibly presented with the most creative and delicate presentations I've ever seen; Plus the flavors and food concept are five stars plus. The service and staff were perfect and I couldn't say more about the chefs cuisine. Phenomenal. Breakfast the following morning on the upper deck was also a fabulous experience and the rooms had everything you could possibly need with all the best little touches. From the initial contact, to arrival, to the final way of goodbye, I was thoroughly impressed and eternally grateful for our stay. Thank you! ~ Cab
My feelings are about the same as last time, not all were
My feelings are about the same as last time, not all were hits but there were several perfect dishes, and most of the nonalcoholic beverage pairing was perfect as well. Similar to last time, I'm struck by how shockingly overfilling the menu is. I thought last time it was my fault for eating a big lunch, but I only ate a small breakfast this time and still the last 4 courses were a struggle to get down. I'm not a small guy either. I'm used to eating a lot. I don't know how skinny people eat here. I'm surprised it's not a more common complaint. It's not exactly a negative, of course. We're coming here to indulge in great food, and the desserts seemed even better than last year, so I was enjoying it, but it was still a struggle. One thing I was very surprised by was receiving the wagyu supplement in spite of not paying for it. I was interested, but as it replaced a duck dish I chose to forgo it this time because I really wanted to try the duck. I asked why I got the wagyu anyway and they said the duck wasn't finished dry aging. Not to penny pinch but it was a little offputting to learn that I would've paid $90 extra for no difference in menu at all if I had opted to pay for the wagyu supplement this time. It makes me feel like they owe the people who did pay for it today a refund.

This is one beautiful restaurant, the decor is light and airy. The center point is the large bar, featuring a large wine list. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The service is impeccable, efficient and well paced. The food matched the restaurant. We went for lunch and ordered both the Croquet Madam and the Shrimp and Crab Salad. The Croquet Madam was excellent; as was the Shrimp/Crab Salad. Beautiful presentation. The Champaign vinaigrette, excellent. We definitely will return, so many items yet to try.
Absolute perfection.
This is both for the inn and for the restaurant. For the inn, we had the most seamless check-in process, personalized keypad entry code, the most beautiful suite filled with luxurious and beautiful amenities, an attentive staff that made us feel so welcomed in their home, insanely delicious in room dining and breakfast that rivaled the restaurant dinner experience and we could keep on listing the incredible facts about the inn stay. For the restaurant, my partner and I have been grateful to eat throughout the world at similarly ranked restaurants, and Singlethread blows them out of the water with their service, attention to detail, blend of Californian and Japanese influences, pure food taste, accommodations, friendliness and comfortability. We feel incredibly blessed to have enjoyed both a night at the inn and to have dined at the restaurant. We will be back.
Heaven on earth

This review is for the restaurant.
Was able to enjoy this lovely experience with friends and we had a blast. From the moment you step into the restaurant you are well taken care of. The opening dish is a crowd pleaser and had an array of different fish dishes to kick you off. My number one favorite bite was the salmon. It tasted like it was eating butter to me. There are then a variety of different fish dishes prepared Japanese style that all have extremely fresh ingredients. The savory portion of the meal included duck and then also a rice dish. This part was just ok. Concluded with several deserts that were made from the cocoa nib and a rooftop coffee and snack to cap it off. Go there for food and experience!
It was good but I wasn't impressed.
We've been a few times and the most recent was for an anniversary. Having forgotten flowers, i thought no big deal--they can help. Well they did not. I asked for any sort of flowers to be brought to the table and it didn't happen. I wasn't even told it wouldn't happen.
A wonderful two night oasis on a hectic three week road trip
The two night stay at the Inn was a real highlight. The price is high, but the central Healdsburg location, the access to a reservation at the restaurant, and the sheer level of detail and quality in the room and the service was exceptional. The advice by Mindy prior to our arrival about things to do locally was excellent. All the little touches in the room were the kind of thing you often wistfully notice th absence of at other, even luxury, hotels - from acess via a personal code, to the Sasawashi room shoes, the complementary drinks, and the spacious and beautifully appointed bathroom. A highlight of our trip - and the tasting menu in the restaurant was spectacular
Without a doubt, SingleThread has been my best experience
Without a doubt, SingleThread has been my best experience among all the 3-star Michelin restaurants I've visited so far. The staff's welcoming gestures and their consistent attention to detail were exceptional. The dish presentation, starting from before we even sat down, was breathtaking. It was clear to see the effort and detail the chefs put into each plate. All the staff were highly trained and able to explain the ingredients and the stories behind each dish. They typically change the menu for warm and cold weather, sourcing ingredients from local farms which explains the freshness of the dishes. I'm eager to revisit and try their upcoming new menus!

Amazing!! Singlethread deserves all of their 3 Michelin Stars. Service was impeccable and the food a once in a life time experience. Topped off with a next day intersctive tour of the kitchen I simply cannot say enough... SingleThread is not to be missed. We cannot wait to go back!!!
5 stars on every level.
Not cheap but a special flawless culinary event. We stayed at rhe hotels ans also had their room service. Best ever. Period.
We were so excited to try Singlethread out as we've heard
We were so excited to try Singlethread out as we've heard great reviews and is our friend's favorite 3 Michelin star restaurant (and his third visit)! The first centerpiece was really impressive with a bunch of small dishes laid out - my favorite was definitely the Uni chawanmushi of these. We also then had some vegetable with duck parfait which was super fresh and perfectly complemented each other. Then came 3 different fish - all really yummy (loved the black cod it was so soft), but we wish perhaps they took one fish dish away and had one more meat dish! The duck was the perfect bite size and not too much. Then we moved onto their mushroom and rice with a broth which was lovely and aromatic though I didn't find this particularly impressive. Lastly came the desserts, this was the main reason this place did not get 5 stars and a let down for me. I love Japanese inspired flavors and food but the dessert just was not it for me. The Meyer lemon with amazake flavor just didn't do it for me, and the platter of other desserts (including cheesecakes / sweet potato and pecan) were average and did not wow me. I usually find that the desserts at 3 Michelin star restaurant are impeccably and the highlight for me but unfortunately single thread did not do it for me. The wine pairings / wine bottles are also on the pricier side which I would have been interested in if it were cheaper. However - it was still a really enjoyable experience, the service was impeccable! Every time someone got up to go to the bathroom, the staff always noticed and would point you there. A nice ambience that isn't too loud or quiet that is perfect for a nice meal.
I was headed to Healdsburg to visit my parents.
I decided to see if I could get a reservation to SingleThread. It's not tourist season and it was a Monday. Yahtzee 6:30 reservation for my dad and me. Upon arrival there is a giant wooden door that opens up to what you think is the kitchen. The hostess stand is on the left hand side. We were greeted by name. The Maître d' was personable and charming. We were instructed to go to the kitchen, where there was a small bar area and we were severed a citrus hot tody. The kitchen staff was busy working. I asked if it would be okay to take a picture. The staff was gracious and said absolutely. Now our table is ready so we are led to our seats. The table is set with winter greens and lots of little 1 bite cold dishes. Water and Dom Perignon were poured. The staff did an amazing job explaining each course. The Sommelier was quite young but he was well spoken and confident. He did a great job explaining each libation. The menu was a winter inspired journey. Halfway though the small bites the staff appeared with 3 little dishes that were served warm. Each dish was a different texture and taste. Each course that followed was paired with a wine. There was a lot of thought that went into the menu. A mackerel, Saba with a crispy crunchy charred skin and still raw was outstanding, after a few courses was fresh greens with wonderful roasted beets and a beet purée with duck liver. The little bread that was served with the greens was excellent. It was a much needed reset after lots of richness. After another course came a carrot granita. It was a brilliant dish. Carrots and the carrot tops, think a thick carrot slushee with a few nuts to give it some texture. It was perfect as the next course A5 Wagyu. There was a local farmed Japanese rice with duck confit meatballs and a Mayer lemon infused rice drink. Think horchata with lemon instead of cinnamon. The dish was slightly creamy. The meal ended with a few small bites of dessert, just like it started Absolutely perfect night. It is very expensive but I thought it was worth it. As we were getting ready to leave we were presented with a copy of the menu and wine pairing all wrapped up with a piece of greenery from the first course. A thank you note from the chef and a pack of sends that can be plated. Bravo thank you for a great experience
Wow. This was a dining experience to remember. I won't list
Wow. This was a dining experience to remember. I won't list out all ten courses, but the highlights included the following: --The first course, a panoply of small bites that included uni, tamago, various sashimi, and a delightful Chinese lettuce dish. This course is fully prepared just before you sit down, so you sit down and it's there waiting for you, which is a really nice way to kick things off. --The smoked black cod, which was perfectly smoked and incredibly tender, served over a shiitake cream sauce with caviar. --The sea bream, which was served with the scales intact, giving it a terrific crunchy texture. I can't remember if this fish was smoked, but it had a smoky essence to it that was unforgettable. --The mushroom rice, which was a hearty, creamy mix of mushrooms, sticky rice and duck meatballs --The second (and final) dessert course, which was a cart consisting of various small bites like sweet potato with pecan and black sesame and strawberry cake. SingleThread is worth the praise and hype.
One word - amazing.
We went for dinner, and we were awed by the initial presentation of food, which was already set at the table. That presentation took our breath away! It was a feast for the eyes and the stomach! We savored each and every little dish on it. The courses came one by one and each was explained by the wait staff. Each one outdoing the previous one! Amazing experience overall. We got our own printed version of the menu to go so we could remember the occasion.
Amazing experience!! Impeccable service by staff!! Food
Amazing experience!! Impeccable service by staff!! Food was delicious and the steak was amazing! The dining area was very pleasant and had a great ambiance. Not crowded and definitely not noisy or so close as to be in other's conversation. Overall a great and memorable experience!
It's probably one of the best meals that I've ever had.
It brought back great memories of an amazing kaiseki-styled dinner in Kyoto. The first 10 bites included cold and hot dishes that were beautifully assembled like an art. Some bites were more flavorful to me than others. The team must have used a few dozen ingredients, so I can't list them all here. One of the best dishes was this creamy uni, some kind of foamy cream served in a shell. It was very balanced, not too creamy. My husband really liked the pairing of this dish with his Chardonnay. They worked really well together. Chef Kyle's signature is probably the nabe. He co-authored a book on it. The nabe was well executed, but I wish there had been a little more broth. The desserts were amazing, too. They were not overly sweet and delicate. The soft, warm Japanese purple yam was comforting on a cold night. The service was excellent, but I felt it was a little too fast at some point. I asked for a 5-minute break in between the main courses and desserts. Overall, I loved the meal and the experience and strongly recommend it if you haven't tried kaiseki.
Food is good but not at all worth the cost.
The breakfast was mostly cold besides the main dish .... really not very good. So disappointed in that. Room was nice, but again the cost was extreme. Don't get me wrong, this is high end, but it's not on the same level as french laundry, and I love japanese food. Bummer. Was expecting to be blown away.
One of the greatest life experiences and memories
As if dining at SingleThread isn't sublime enough- it is all that and more- staying at the Inn as well is just an incredible experience. We've stayed 2x in the top suite and dined at the restaurant a number of times going back prior to all the accolades and Michelin ratings. Even then, we knew we had one of the best meals of our lives and we've eaten at Michelin starred restaurants and amazing places globally over the decades (both in our 50s). This visit, Chef Kyle, Katina and their team proved why they are among the best chefs, farm-to-table, and overall hospitality experiences in the world. Often, once you've experienced dining and hospitality at the highest leve, it is harder to find things that surprise, delight and impress you - for your palate and experientially. And yet, we were blown away by how they continue to raise the bar higher and how so many dishes were inventive, creative, beautiful and absolutely stunningly delicious. There is a Kyoto carrot based granita dish that also serves as a palate cleanser, for example, like nothing we ever tasted before that was incredible. Likewise for so many of the dishes (we don't want to spoil the fun of discovery for others) and the wine pairings are perfectly matched. Now imagine, after having such an incredible meal (and before), retreating upstairs to the most comfortable and thoughtfully appointed apartment style suite, replete with all kinds of thoughtful touches- heated bathroom floors, lighting touches, incredible snacks, coffee, tea, matcha, a lovely soaking tub, balcony, japanese toilet, etc. It also may seem counterintuitive, but staying at the Inn is also a remarkable VALUE. Yes, that's right. While luxury and especially top hospitality has a price, you have to consider that the breakfast the next morning- Japanese and Western options and with any and all items you like- is included in the price. How much would a breakfast like this cost, much less one you can enjoy in the privacy of your room (or a private study for guests) so you don't have to even get dressed up? How much would a breakfast for 2 cooked by a 3-Michelin Starred culinary team cost including tax and tip- $350? Possibly more? Subtract that out from the price of your room stay and it's an incredibly sweet deal for a luxury experience at a price that has a ton of value. I travel a lot with my work globally and often stay and dine at luxury properties and restaurants around the world and being in my 50s, experience have been fortunate to experience great service and hospitality. SingleThread continues to be one of the best life experiences and created such wonderful memories for my wife and myself. There's a reason they have so many accolades and stars!
Amazing!
Still, likely, the best inn and dining experience we've ever had in CA. This was our fourth visit to the restaurant in six years and our second at the inn. While the dining experience is exquisite, the breakfast is also extraordinary.
A Top Hospitality Experience!
My husband and I stayed at SingleThread for our 10th Anniversary and ate at the restaurant - both were perhaps the top hospitality experience I've ever had (and I've had a lot)! The food is unbelievable (go hungry)! The breakfasts and in-room dining was luxurious and the room was stunning and so incredibly comfortable. The service was a great balance between attentiveness and giving us our space/privacy. We will definitely be back.
A Stay you will always remember.
A STAY YOU WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER! Nestled in the heart of Healdsburg, only 5 rooms, impeccable service. Breakfast in your room, on your balcony, or on the roof top deck (from the same kitchen that is a Michelin 3 star restaurant in the evening. Do not miss dinner there!
Incredible haven
Purist, artisanal, thoughtful and beautifully-crafted food and super comfortable accomodation…a tranquil gourmet haven. Kudos to them for painstakingly producing vegetables and flowers on their own organic biodiverse farm. Thank you for the impromptu farm tour by plant biologist, Ariel who told us how they address weather changes, soil quality, crop rotation and even how to cure potatoes to form next year’s seed bank. Well done!
The perfect end to a magical wedding week
I came here for the last night of my honeymoon, which immediately followed my wedding. I was still recovering from the insane rush of an incredible but packed wedding weekend. I spent a year planning my wedding and my goal was to make everyone who attended feel taken care of. Well worth it - an amazing wedding - but I was definitely depleted. SingleThread took such good care of me. Stayed at the inn for one night and went to dinner. They are generous, thoughtful, and precise. Their staff members are all artists who care deeply about their jobs. Every inn detail was done with intention. The room was filled with little things to make you comfortable. Boundless snacks filled the fridge and freezer a homemade chocolate sorbet, a bottle of incredible local wine, komboucha, fresh juice for the morning. Homemade matcha, precisely measured ground coffee, and two welcome snacks were on the bar. Heated bathroom floors. A huge tub with pink soaking salts. I felt pampered, seen, and, while this is strange to say about a hotel, loved. The meal was incredible. Amazing produce, personalized service. You could tell they spent months and years obsessively refining every tiny detail. Just look at the photos. Thrilled. Amazed. In heaven! Thank you SingleThread!!!!
Experience of a lifetime
We went to SingleThread to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. It was an experience of a lifetime. We stayed one night and were very pleasantly surprised as they upgraded us to the Master Suite. The room was very large (700 sq ft) and all the amenities in the room were fantastic down to the towels and bed sheets. Truly a very special stay. The dinner we had at SingleThread was unique, amazing and delicious. Service was stellar. Every course was a presentation. (One slight disappointment was that the meat course was chewy and tough. But, this was a minor disappointment as all the other 9 courses were absolutely fantastic.) This was a very memorable stay and dinner for us.
Convenient place to stay after dining at the restaurant
We chose to stay here, but not by choice. We wanted to dine at the restaurant, but it was booked full on our preferred date. We were fortunate, however, that a room was available - inn guests are guaranteed indoor dinner reservations for 2 at SingleThread. And, our room of choice was available (a Suite.) Over the years, numerous superlatives have been used to visitors to describe the dining experience, and our time at the restaurant (it was our second visit) was just as amazing as our previous time there. While the Michelin 3-star designation is legitimate, I don't believe the Inn itself to be in the same category. It's very nice, but especially given the room rates, we don't feel it stands out from the variety of options in the area (including Farmhouse Inn and Auberge du Soleil, for instance.) First thing's first - the location is unbeatable... how could it not be? I'm not talking about the neighborhood or views or anything like that. After a 3-hour culinary extravaganza, complete with a heavy consumption of wine, nothing is more convenient than being able to stammer upstairs and plop right into bed. And then, in the morning you're treated to a delightful Japanese-inspired breakfast (Western options are available.) The Suite room itself is not particularly spacious by Suite standards, not to mention that it's technically more of a Junior Suite (i.e., it's an open plan layout) than the real thing. Modern technologies and amenities are on hand, and the decor is simple, minimalistic and tasteful. They also provide Onigiri (Japanese rice balls) as well as homemade Ice Cream in the minibar for those that have cravings in the middle of the night. A very nice touch. All of the staff members were friendly, sweet, professional and eager to please. We didn't have much need for any major assistance (such as concierge service), but the people we came across were genuinely delighted to have us there. The big question - would we stay here again in the future if we are successful in securing dinner reservations without needing a room reservation? The answer is... probably. While it's not the most luxurious property and doesn't have the sprawling grounds or incredible views of other top hotels in the area, SingleThread has something - something special - that others do not.... the fabulous restaurant. For that reason alone, and due to the convenience of not having to worry about taking an Uber back to some other property - we'd probably consider it as a combo deal.

From the moment I walked in I knew this was going to be a very premium experience and it delivered. We were greeted and offered drinks, sent to a lounge to relax while our table was prepared.Next we met our waiter who explained everything in excellent detail as the dishes came out and was super friendly. The food was a masterpiece, I don't think I have eaten anywhere and been so impressed visually with the food. It was a really spectacular experience.Even the bathroom welcomed my tush with a high end Toto bidet, they've thought of everything! All in all I had a blast here and the hours flew by, I would definitely come back again!
Hands down the best three Michelin star experience we had
Hands down the best three Michelin star experience we had so far. It's truly an outstanding experience. My husband and I stayed at the Inn frequently and experienced the tasting menu multiple times. We got to know the staff there pretty well at this point. Haley Callahan (Director of Hospitality) and the entire team always go above and beyond to make sure that we have a great experience. It's a place with good heart and soul.
Welcome to SingleThread farm a 3 star Michelin restaurant
Welcome to SingleThread farm a 3 star Michelin restaurant where our menu is anywhere between $175-250 PER PERSON but we cannot seem to pay our staff a livable wage. They pay their sous chef a whopping 15.50 an hour in a state where it is notoriously expensive. But hey yeah cmon down and experience our overpriced small generic food, that you can find in ANY other Michelin starred restaurants. Save your money go somewhere else that actually pays their employees a livable wage.
