π 4/5 - Delightful place for a light meal and wine tasting

In a light, modern and airy space in the middle of Rice Village, this two-story restaurant cum wine bar offers a relaxing environment, lots of choices for shareable dishes and a broad selection of wines by the glass (or by the bottle). Open all day after around 10-11 am, it is a great place for brunch, lunch, snack, happy hour or dinner. We shared the bacon-wrapped dates, which were perfect. The burrata came in a lovely presentation and a delightful dressing. The Crispy Zucchini is a large portion, definitely to share. It has multiple consistencies, and textures, with varying levels of crunchiness. The meatballs were delicious, a mix of beef and lamb in a light tomato-based sauce. The Fried Chicken and Caviar was a disappointment: the chicken breast (yes, they only serve breast...) was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender, but had absolutely no taste. The caviar was invisible, so we can't recommend it. We tried six different types of wine, mostly from the West Coast. The Albarino and Kith & Kin Chardonnay were enjoyable, but the Quilt Cab/Merlot was the best! The espresso had the right aroma but was gritty and only mediocre; the Cappuccino was disappointing. It was the usual story: most places in Houston can't tell the difference between a Latte and a Cappuccino and both are served with lots of milk, with some added foam to the Cappuccino. This was no exception, so we left it on the table. Overall, a delightful way to enjoy a couple of hours. Just stay away from the fried chicken and the Cappuccino.
