This place was recommended to us by a local as the best
This place was recommended to us by a local as the best schnitzel in Vienna so we managed to squeeze in a reservation for Saturday night. We arrived late and were informed that we could only stay for 90 minutes, which we felt would be more than enough time. This restaurant was hip and modern, but it felt that some of the tables were a bit close together. This might have been because we were put in the corner, with both my boyfriend and me sitting on the bench.Their menu is small, although they did have a decent amount of drink options. We each had two drinks, however only the first two satisfied us. We decided to split the baby spinach salad and burrata dishes. The burrata was very good, as was the tomato pesto beneath it, but was definitely on the heavier side. The baby spinach salad left something to be desired, as the proportion of salad leaves to toppings was not great. The salad leaves were also too large to eat and extremely hard to pick up by fork. We split the veal schnitzel and it came on two plates, which was perfect. This was definitely the highlight of the night and easily one of the best schnitzels I've had in my life. The accompanying potato salad was refreshing and the flavor was evenly balanced. The restaurant is in a quieter part of town and although the schnitzel was good, we felt as though we were being kicked out. Food was coming very quickly and the attitudes by some of the staff made it seem like we inconvenienced them. It appeared they were more interested in turning tables than anything. Although that might not be the case, that's how it felt and we left the restaurant solely with full stomachs.

We went to Skopik & Lohn after reading an article in Architectural Digest about Vienna's new cool vibe. This restaurant definitely fit the description. I loved the décor as well as the food.An interesting take on Schnitzel that looked modern and tasted great. The restaurant was full with folks from every walk. Family gatherings to girls night out. The service was great, very helpful with perfect English. Great music too. Was wishing they had a dance floor most of the time. The next day I found that I was missing a very special scarf that I had worn there the night before. I emailed the description of the scarf to the office and received an email back from Constance saying that they found the scarf. I sent my home address and they are mailing it back to me and wouldn't accept my offer to reimburse them for the shipping charges. This is a response that you always dream of when you are in a foreign city.I would highly recommend Skopik & Lohn for its great customer care and service as well as the food and overall feel.

Disappointing experience and rude waitress We waited for about 45 minutes between the appetizer and the soup. Other costumers who came after us were already having their main course. Obviously you lose appetite when you're waiting for your dish for that long. Our mains were steak which was dry on the outside and schnitzel which was lacking flavor. At the end, after paying for the meal, we politely told our waitress (brunette, brown eyes, full figure, with a bun) that we were very disappointed that we had to wait that long after the appetizer. Her immediate reaction was of surprise, as if she didn't expect us to have something to complain about and nonchalantly said that if we would have told her that we were in a hurry then the food would have come quicker, trying to justify the delay instead of accepting our comment in a professional manner as it would be expected in any dinner, even more so in a high quality restaurant like this. We then had a back and forth between the waitress where she was still trying to be in the right which ended with her saying in a dry manner" im sorry you didn't enjoy the experience"

This restaurant was fantastic!! The service was great as well as the ambiance. All the employees were super friendly. Everything from starter to dessert was delicious. Definitely recommend the Wiener schnitzel, ravioli soup and the chocolate cake with black sesame ice cream. It as a perfect date night spot. Recommend you try this spot out if you're in Vienna!

While eating our way through Vienna for a week, we came upon Skopik & Lohn. We were in search of the perfect Wiener schnitzel. The first thing we noticed when entering the restaurant was the cool and edgy graffiti paint job on the walls and ceiling. The service at Skopik & Lohn was impeccable. The staff was very attentive and slipped seamlessly between speaking German and flawless English. The waitress opened by suggesting a Lemon Elderflower Fizz. If you have never had one, it's an absolute must. It is refreshing and delicious. In a word .... it's awesome. The main event, the Wiener schnitzel, did not disappoint. It was nothing sort of outstanding. Of the eight Wiener schnitzel meals that I had in Vienna, this one tied for the top slot.Right down to the espresso we capped the meal off with, everything was very well done.
Be the first to ReplyCool atmosphere (darker, great music).
Ceiling has a unique and fun design. Schnitzel and wine were great. Waiter was accommodating when the place was full and we did not make a reservation. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyWe learned about this restaurant on a Japanese travel guide.
It's a bit away from the touristy area, but we happened to live nearby, so I went back twice during my visit. The vibe seems to be pretty local. The service was very nice, and it made things for us so much easier that the servers speak excellent English. There're cute outdoor seatings that are great for the summer. During our first visit, we couldn't decide on which wine to take, and the server asked for our preference, and brought us several samples to try in order to make a decision. We really appreciated that! And the second time, we were recommended a delicious fizz cocktail, which was also delicious. The menu was a small seasonal selection. Our favorite was the seafood plate!

We chose the Skopik & Lohn based on a referral from a friend who lives in Vienna. It was a great tip. The meal was fantastic. The wait staff was very friendly. We had reserved a table for Friday night and were glad that we had. The restaurant was full the entire evening. The advice we got was pretty spot on: "it is nice, but not too nice", it is expensive, but not too expensive", "the food is very good". We concur on all points. My husband: Tartar, the fish with basil potatoes (beautifully and artfully presented), the warm chocolate lava cake with a salted caramel sauce and black sesame ice-cream (excellent!)I had the mushroom salad with a nice added twist of a small gougeres loaf, the braised lamb, and the poppyseed cake, with lemon cream, and rhubarb cream. Everything was excellent. My husband started with a vodka martini (very good) and then a glass of wine that he found too fruity for his taste. I had a non-alcoholic beer (Austrian brand Null, Josef....which was very good). The courses were perfectly paced. The only minus point would be that due to the crowd size, I had to wait too long for my second beer. But everything else about the place more than made up for it.
Be the first to ReplyThought the food was marvelous and inventive.
Service was impeccable. This is a very high end restaurant with a bougie crowd. Worth the money.

Ok, if you have money to burn, and you want a more upscale feeling with men if white three piece suits taking care of you, sure. First, its one of these places that charge you just to sit down a "table top" price of 2.50 Euros per person. That's insane. In Austria, charged at some snooty places as price for "linens, utensils and if you are bloody lucky bread". So if you are going to be so arrogant as to charge me this fee at least make sure the bread you serve me doesn't feel like the same bread basket you have been passing around the restaurant all day.I agree with Scott P. that asking for tap water makes you feel the need to take out your umbrella to avoid the spit of the waiter he seems to want to give you for daring to ask. The food (other than the bread) was fine (not exceptionally delicious but not horrible either), but beware the portions are not meant for the very hungry (so you end up trying to fill up on recycled bread just to get your money's worth). The cocktail was completely forgettable with not much of a punch. We paid for a soup, two drinks, forced on us mineral water and a beef tartar above 35 Euros. Insane x 2. One guy was nice. We could sit outside on a good day and it was cute. Inside is artsy. We didn't die of food poisoning and it was clean. Other than that, meh. It gets three stars because it has a nice feel to it which is more exceptional in Vienna (but hey, if you are a tourist, its likely a standard for where you normally are). So ya, overall, meh.
Be the first to ReplyWhen I went to visit my Dutch friend in Vienna, we decided
When I went to visit my Dutch friend in Vienna, we decided to go out for a dinner somewhere where none of us has been to. A very common phenomenon among food-lovers which I call 'trying out some new place'.So we met up, took the metro and ventured into the less touristy streets of the second district, across the river from Schwedenplatz. We arrived at Skopik & Lohn, and though we did not make a reservation (it was Friday), after a brief wait of less than 5 minutes we were sat on a nice table for two outside. Just what we wanted. We ordered the daily aperitif to start off, which was very refreshing, followed by a beeft tartare and red wine. For my main course I had a rabbit leg with some nice bread knödels. The meat was moist and very nicely prepared. The portion was the right size, and is definitely filling. My friend ordered coq au vin, which was also very delicious. Both were very good choices. For desert my friend ordered a tarte tatin, staying true to the classical French disches, while I ordered a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. I was extremely happy with my choice. The chocolate cake was in the end a chocolate lava cake, which just made my evening. The inside was runny, velvety, delicious dark chocolate. AHMAGAWD! Overall - great food and great service. It is reasonably priced, and has quite an interesting wine list. I was very surprised and pleased at the same time, when I saw that they offer Bulgarian wine. Two different ones actually, one can be ordered per glass, the other is only to be ordered per bottle (and also is amongst the highest priced ones). Nonetheless, I went for the Merlot per glass, as it fit better my dish selection.
Be the first to ReplyI had a very good meal at Skopik & Lohn.
The bill for six people with wine and other drinks was somewhere around €350. \Starters that we enjoyed included octopus with arugula and potatoes -- sort of a spanish-galician style thing with a parmesan basket. Delicious! We also like the tartar. Skip the caesar's salad -- totally not worth it for a garlicky slop of a salad with no anchovies of note. Mains were all delightful. Several of my party enjoyed the steak frites with bernaise. The steak was perfect, although the fries were only mediocre. The pork tenderloin on creamy polenta with arugula was one of the best dishes we've had in Vienna. Excellent. We got great wine recommendations from the owner and, overall, good service. I will still rate this place four stars, but I will say that one of the waiters was so snotty and unpleasant that I considered rating this place one star less. He sneered when we asked for some Leitungswasser (tap water) before we had ordered (we were thirsty, damnit!) and he brought a wheat beer to my non-drinking friend who had ordered an alcohol-free beer. That's not unforgivable in itself, but when my friend said he couldn't drink it, the waiter wouldn't stop arguing that my friend had said wheat beer and not alcohol-free beer. I mean, the dude doesn't drink; he probably knows how to say "alcohol free beer". In the end, the guy was such a putz that he had my friend apologizing to the waiter for not annunciating clearly. I mean, WTF? Anyway, this being Vienna, you sort of expect that sort of thing (unfortunately) and just sort of roll with it. In the end, it didn't ruin our night and we left happy -- although they tried to charge us for the wheat beer ;-)
