The Service was excellent! The food was terrible! Ordered
The Service was excellent! The food was terrible! Ordered the petit streaks medium rare it came out mooing!! When I questioned the waitress and if she thought that this was a medium, rare steak, she absolutely thought it was med/rare. She brought it back and within a minute and a half she was back with that it was uneadiable! We also ordered a hassle back potatoes that came out cold and the pan seared spinach, which had so much garlic. I'm still burping it up. This was a gift certificate that I received from somebody so I didn't make a big deal out of it but I'll never go back there again. Just to let you know I went to BJ's restaurant in Framingham has the most unbelievable steak for 19.99! And that was with all the fixings. The steak houses should be ashamed of themselves! They also need to lighten up the place so you can read the menu. The appetizer was the best part of the meal. The buratta. Might I suggest one thing that when Two people are ordering you do not send our 3 slices of bread but even it off to four.

My ex and I went here for a celebratory dinner with our daughter who attends Wellesley (she did great on a project). So disappointing. My ex's dinner was extremely late and poorly cooked (salmon steak). Our server told us that their medium was warm pink in the middle -- the steak I received was medium well by any measure. The sides, which we were told would feed 3-4 family style, were both small and not well-cooked -- even the fries! They were droopy and mushy. They comped us a dessert because my ex's dinner was so late. I ordered creme brule and said I really like it nice and burned. It came with the flimsiest little crust on it. I tried to flag the wait staff to send it back for another pass with the torch but couldn't get anyone. I ate it and it was fine, but why would you not follow a pretty simple instruction? I can only think that they have a lot of turnover/lack of staffing in the kitchen. Very disappointing.

... It up! Family,Flavor Friendsthis is my first visit at this high reputation establishment. We are here for a friends birthday and decided since we're here let's get the best things they have got the tomahawk steak, which was a show and a dinner. We also got the porterhouse, truffle mac & cheese the bacon truffle fries. The service was good the environment in the setting we're also good as expected. However, let's talk about the main course, although the steaks were very eye pleasing. I was wanting that first bite to be everything that I can be and give you that all of casein some thing really delicious. Unfortunately this time it was very bland and maybe I don't eat at these expensive restaurants a lot. But should the steak really be cold? And tasteless, I was hoping to write a amazing review, but I couldn't. Three stars for service and decor.

Karen is the best server I've ever had!!! The food was unbelievable, the Smith and Wollensky Cabernet Sauvignon was to die for. Such a great setting and the service was unbeatable. 10/10 would recommend and would come back just for Karen's service
Be the first to ReplyA few items and a few cocktails drinks were good.
But overall service and the experience for the price point have a lot of work to get us to return. There are better steakhouses out there for the price.
Be the first to Replyconsistently excellent food and service.
have been many times smd never disappointed. most recently Laurie was our server and she was friendly, prompt, nailed out for and drinks orders and made helpful suggestions. highly recommend!!
Be the first to ReplyWent last night and the experience was truly exceptional.
Steve was funny, knowledgeable, and really made the visit fun for us. We had the swinging tomahawk and surf and turf and both were cooked wonderfully. Will definitely be back, ask for Steve!
Be the first to ReplyJust got home after an early New Year's family dinner.
We ordered a variety of seafood, sides, and steak dishes. We all agreed, eh. Service was great, food was dull and less than memorable. I will pay a lot for great food. This was lousy. Won't be back.
Be the first to ReplySo this was a much better spot than the original in NYC.
It is tucked into the downtown area of Wellesley and there is parking free available roadside. It is exactly what you would expect from a top-tier steakhouse. Plenty of steak options, lots of interesting sides, but not much else in the middle. There is definitely a New England flair with crabcakes and clam chowder. I did not remember these from the original restaurant so must be a local addition. Great service too.

We were excited to have dinner at S&W - and highly disappointed in the experience. We had a late reservation (8:15), and this suburban location was starting to clear out. Fewer tables often means better service at well-staffed, high end places like this. For us, however, it was the opposite: the service fell off a cliff. My steak, ordered medium well, came to the table "medium rare." Not a problem, a few more mins should do the trick. 15 mins later, no steak and no servers checking on us, etc. I got up to find someone. Finally, a server came to the table and said my steak just needed 5 more mins. Everyone else at the table was done eating, so I cancelled it. Still, no manager, no one asking about the mistake, etc. It got worse from there, when I finally found the manager and explained what was going wrong. He really didn't seem to care much about what I was telling him. The check came, we were not charged the $85 for my steak, and that was it. Considering the prices, expectations, and the lack of service, management's response was surprising. We paid $200+ for dinner for 3, and I didn't get to eat. It was highly disappointing - not to mention expensive - for an evening that should have been much more pleasant. There are plenty of alternatives around here - go to Capital Grill, where you can count on a wonderful and tasty evening. Smith & Wollensky in Wellesley has a long way to go before it lives up to its brand promise. Last night would have been better (and much cheaper) eating almost anyplace else. Big thumbs down, S&W.

All food was amazing! This is a high end steak house that is foodie recommended! Enjoy the classy atmosphere while enjoying a special dinner experience. We enjoyed dinner with a large party of 10 people very comfortably. APPETIZERS- STEAK TARTARE with croutons, pickled red onion, kettle chips. Beef is their speciality and the chef got this 110% right! The salty kettle chips were perfect pairing. - TUNA TARTARE with sesame-crusted sushi rice, wakame, sriracha aioli, ponzu. Not steak, but delicious flavors with nice touch of heat from the sriracha aioli. - SHELLFISH TOWER FOR 2. Meh. chilled Jonah crab claws, jumbo shrimp, oysters, scallop ceviche - accompanied by horseradish cocktail sauce, cognac mustard, ginger sauce and green apple mignonette. This was not as enjoyable for me as the other appetizers.ENTREE- AMERICAN WAGYU FILET TENDERLOIN. 9 oz. black grade Wayu, roasted shallot, asparagus, marrow butter. OMG so good. I understand American Wagyu is crossbreed of Japanese Wagyu bulls and Angus bulls. It is less fatty than Japanese Wagyu but more fatty than Angus. It's a nice balance as you can only eat 2-3ounces of Japanese Wagyu due to its extremely high fat content. The seasoned crust on this steak was to die for!DESSERT - our group sampled three treatsNY STYLE CHEESECAKE - my hands-down favorite treat. It was perfectly dense and had some mystery ingredient that added a subtle, elegant flavor. 10 LAYER CHOCOLATE CAKE - brushed with Baileys Irish Cream, chocolate mousse and covered with ganache. This was a good chocolate cake but I am just not a cake guy. COCONUT LAYER CAKE - Meh. If you are a coconut fanatic then go for it but wasn't my favorite. Coconut sponge cake layered with whipped cream and Malibu rum syrup, served with a crisp tuile and shaved coconut

We did not have a reservation, so we're seated at the high-tops (at the bar). At 12:30 there were two tables in use outside and we were the second at the bar. The restaurant was not busy... Fifteen minutes later, there were apologies for neglecting us, explaining it was very busy and the kitchen was overwelmed. They took an order; Surf and turf for two $150 (keep it simple). The manager came by after 20 minutes and offered to comp up a first round at the bar. I don't really drink and it is not clear what one might drink with surf and turf; white wine, red wine, shiraz, fog cutter... The latter might have improved things. A different waiter brought sweet bread, slathered in sweet whipped butter. Half an hour in we were served: two dry lobster tails, nicely prepared, 6 steak tips and four little potatoes, served on a bed of saute parsley, with lemon. The greeter brought it, with a caution that the plate was hot. Unfortunately the lobster tail was not. We had butter knives and bread dishes and asked for plates. A while later another waiter came by and looked with amazement and announced, we needed plates. He brought plates and steak knives. The cold dry lobster tail (probably farm grown) was OK. The steak tips were tasty, as were the little potatoes. We declined desert. After an hour we asked for the check and when it arrived, $200 was presented. The waiter suggested no change? I asked for a moment to consider and left a 20% tip. As we left the dining room room was still empty. This was a definitive culinary data point.

Tara was so amazing. made us feel right at home and boy did she know her stuff! she is definitely a pro and loved her big smile. drinks were amazing. i can say i've never had one. and was so delighted how tasty and not sugary this drink was. we stopped in for an appetizer and a drink before dinner. the onion rings were so delish. not greasy. just perfect. highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplySolid experience.
Excellent food, and epically superlative service by Ryan. What an intelligent and gregarious individual. Ryan is engaging, pleasantly upbeat, masterfully articulate, and knows the menu and wines down to the molecule. His service was flawless. Just the perfect amount of service. He nailed the window, which is that precious timeframe between not being rushed, and not being neglected. I hope S&W HQ knows what a superstar they have in this employee, kind of a Bryce Harper of food service, minus the roid rage, celebrity complex, and Philadelphia stank. And a note to Ryan, thanks for the garlic salt heads up, no pun intended.

So good, service is good but lost one star, the shrimp cocktail could have had been bigger shrimp. Steak was great, bread and was great, can't wait to go again.
Be the first to ReplyHad a belated Valentines dinner here tonight.
Absolutely everything was delicious. Our server, Mickey, was knowledgeable, friendly and fabulous. He made fantastic recommendations and is obviously very passionate about what he does. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. Drinks were delicious. And oh man, the desserts were huge and tasty. We absolutely will be back again. One of the best date nights we've had in a while. Thank you everyone at Smith and Wollensky for a great dinner.

They messed up our order -- well-done, instead of medium rare -- and without even being asked or us complaining, just showing them, they immediately offered either to comp or a gift card for the same amount. This was much appreciated and is the sign of excellent management. Everything else -- salad, shrimp, asparagus, sauces -- were all excellent.

For a steakhouse with super expensive prices that they have, the experience was very disappointing. The steak I ordered was completely burned on the outside tasted bitter, absolutely no flavor and very dry with almost no juice. It takes a lot of effort to change a piece of meat into something that feels like rubber and has no taste. The rest of our orders were not that great either.
Be the first to ReplyMy friend and I had a very enjoyable lunch.
The indoor space was very empty but the outdoor dining was fairly busy since the weather was so nice. The service was a little slow but we didn't mind since we both had the day off from work. We certainly didn't feel rushed which was nice. My friend has a loyalty account so they brought us complimentary lobster crostini to start the meal. I just recently spent a couple of days vacationing in Maine and the lobster in Ogunquit didn't come close to this. S & W's was so sweet and succulent. We both had burgers which were cooked to absolute perfection but they were so filling (along with delicious fries and coleslaw) that we each brought half home. My son had my remaining half for dinner and thought it was the best burger he had ever tasted. He can't wait to go next time and get a whole burger all to himself! Wait til he tries the chocolate chip cookie skillet or chocolate cake. My friend and I shared the cookie skillet this time but in the past we've shared the cake and both are phenomenal. I couldn't eat another morsel after that lunch but just one day later and I am already planning my return visit! If you haven't been to S & W in Wellesley I highly recommend trying it out. You won't be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyThe place is freezing.
Even with a cardigan I was shivering in there. Maybe that is how they push sale for their below average soup. The wait between food was super long. The steak was also below average. Mine was burned on the outside, making the meat, while tender, bitter through every bite. The other thing we ordered was the rib from the rossetti. It came out cold to the touch. We couldnt stomach it so now at least our dog will get a gourmet meal. 2 stars is from him. Their mac and cheese is also tasteless

How can a steak house ruin a medium rare steak twice. I'm a frequent patron. If it wasn't for the bartender I would never go back. Manager is lame. Sorry but a true review. And to boot the bathroom stunk!!!! $55 steak really guys???
Be the first to ReplyWhat a horrible degrading experience with okay food.
We were told at 4:30 on Sunday that the patio where we hoped to be seated and bar were fully booked. We sat at a substandard booth in a mostly empty restaurant. There was one patio table occupied. When we left, the supposedly fully booked front of the restaurant was still mostly empty. When we walked by again an hour later where our car was parked, the "fully booked" restaurant was still mostly empty. If you are not white elite, expect to sit near the kitchen.
Be the first to ReplyI can't speak to the restaurant, only to takeout.
I got the bone-in ribeye and loved it. It was had a great rub, juicy and delicious, perfectly cooked.
Be the first to ReplyThis place has gone way downhill.
I brought my family last night and almost everything was bad. The pea soup just tasted like hot oil. The Caesar salad was terrible and dry. The cream spinach was greasy and flavorless. The steak tartar was pretty good but the presentation was gross. Medium rare steak was served rare to raw. Coffee was literally undrinkable. Chocolate cake which is usually the highlight of the meal there was absolutely stale. This is really too bad. Great location with a clientele willing to pay any price for great food, why serve mediocre food? Service was good for whatever that's worth.

I hate giving a restaurant a poor review, but this is my second very poor experience here. I also understand that nobody wants to work these days, but hear me out. Our waiter was a nice guy and we liked him a lot, however he seemed overloaded with work. I understand this. The problem I had was this: there are 3 "managers" in suits "working" at the restaurant. We sat with dishes (appetizers) and empty drinks in front of us for at least 30 minutes, while watching 3 suits walk by us multiple times, never even glancing at our table. I wanted to see how long we would have waited, but I had obligations after dinner. We finally had to say something. This led to the typical scrambling around trying to get us our dinner. My steak was completely undercooked (extra rare). I didn't say anything because I just couldn't wait any longer, nor did I care at this point. I've never been in the restaurant business, but I've certainly eaten at my share of very nice restaurants. I know this; the managers job is to have eyes on tables at all times. Walking by a table without putting eyes on the table, the drinks, and the dishes is completely unacceptable. Stopping for a quick check to make sure everything is ok and if anything is needed, is restaurant management 101. This should be done automatically by someone managing a restaurant, especially when there's 3 of them. What I did see them doing when they were not walking through the dining room aimlessly, doing everything but the job of a manager; they were standing around grab assing with each other. Now again, I hate to bash but this was completely unacceptable considering a bill was handed to me for $300 with salads, an appetizer, 2 drinks and two steaks. This was after over 2 hours of sitting at the table. I don't like being ripped off ever, but when I'm ripped off at what is supposed to be a 5 star steakhouse, I really feel like a sucker. I will never be back to this place and I won't be surprised if they close the Wellesley location. It's a disgrace.
