Wonderful food and service! The caviar sampling was a great add to our meal. Definitely a must visit restaurant in Dublin.

We found this place based on reviews and couldn't have found a more spectacular place. Right from entry everyone was friendly. The seafood chowder is a must. Best I have ever had. The crab claws, shrimp and Cesar salad were great. The ribeye was amazing. The pudding was excellent for dessert. Wine selection was also great. Server was surpreme.

We were able to get a last minute reservation when we were visiting and I am glad we did! We started with some nice old fashioned cocktails. We next moved on to some oysters. The oysters were very fresh and delicious! I tried the monkfish skewers special and it was amazing! Probably one of the best I ever had! My lady had some scallops and she was quite pleased as well. Overall great food and excellent service!

In short, this place was very good, and also very close to our hotel. The Westbury. Service was certainly attentive. I had the Seabass with the Thai curry sauce, which was slightly more spicy than I expected. Also, the Seabass was a little on the thin side, although it was cooked perfectly. my wife had the special of the day which was a Fish Wellington. We've had beef Wellington before, but never with fish as the protein. It was unusual, and it was very good. The ambience was pleasant. The restaurant is actually quite large, extending far back.

The greeter, Chloe, on the evening I went in (mid-July 2023), was extremely rude. I was originally too early for my reservation so I headed back out and proceeded to get lost after exiting St. Stephen's Green. While I usually have a pretty good sense of direction, I managed to get turned around and had trouble finding the restaurant again. I tried to call the restaurant to let them know I was lost but could not navigate the international call on my phone while frantically trying to find the place. When I finally made it back to the restaurant, after having to ask for directions from a couple of people, Chloe (I believe that is her name) looked me up and down as though I had come into the restaurant soaking wet. I was not soaking wet and had on proper, nice, dinner attire. The dour look on her face was not appreciated. I apologized profusely for being late but she never cracked a smile, making me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcomed. Chloe pretty much ruined my dinner experience, a dinner I was looking forward to for several nights. For the amount this restaurant charges, I would expect a better, more professional greeting, even if I am unintentionally late (after being early).
Be the first to ReplyBeen wanting to try SOLE seafood for a while.
The restaurant only opens for dinner on weekdays, while lunch hours are available only in weekends. Was shopping in the area this Saturday so decided to drop in for lunch. I did not make a reservation as the party size of one single customer is not allowed to make reservations online. But I did come in as they open for lunch at 1pm, and there were plenty of seats available. I sat at a bar counter space. By around 2:30 pm the place would start to get very busy. If you have a large party size, make sure to reserve first. Environment Soft cushion seating, good quality marble surface on the bar counter, modern dรฉcor, soothing creamy yellow lights, a very comfortable place to have a meal overall. Service Friendly and attentive. One waitress took care of my order while another served bread. Made a good recommendation of white wine to go with my seafood tower. Would wish the waitress serving bread had better knowledge about the bread as she only described the two types as "brown" and "white" (I imagine one is whole wheat and the other is white bread). Drink I am not a dedicated wine person so I could not remember the type and the name of the wine served, but it was a good white wine. Fruity, citrusy but not too sour, light sweet finish, a good white wine to go with seafood. Food -Bread: took both brown and white bread. Would wish they were a bit hotter or crispier (toasted preferably). The butter tasted standard. -Entrรฉe: Ordered the seafood tower for 80 Euros for two persons. I was having only one major meal today, and I am a gourmet, so I believed I should be able to finish it with no issue. Reality proved me wrong. The tower came with both cold and hot seafood options. Six rock oysters, a portion of smoked salmon, and a portion of prawn cocktail with iceberg lettuce constituted the cold/raw bar, and several chargrilled tiger prawns, some roasted crab claws, and a GENEROUS portion of mussels in white wine and garlic cream sauce formed the hot plate. Rock oysters: small in size, but packed with rich flavor, buttery texture start with briny finish. Went quite well with squeezed lemon juice and the house vinaigrette sauce. Smoked salmon: tasted fresh with bouncy texture and rich salmon fat flavor. Would wish for a bit heavier smoky taste. Prawn cocktails: chopped prawn meat with sauce on lettuce. Recommend a one-bite finish with all the prawn chunks and the lettuce leaf. Prawns were bouncy and savory, and the lettuce leaf added interesting texture and reduced the fishiness overall. Tiger prawns: be-headed, de-veined, shell still on, and chargrilled. Crispy, slightly charred and yellow shell on the outside, creamy prawn texture inside. Spot-on seasoning. Excellent cooking techniques. Prawn claws: shell removed for the main chunk of the crab meat. Tasted standard. A bit on the foamy side, not as creamy as the tiger prawns, but still very nice. Mussels: again, GENEROUS portion. Filled up the whole bowl. All tasted very fresh and savory. Would wish for a slightly thicker sauce base. Took me quite a while to finish them all. Overall: 4.5-5 stars. Some minor hiccups here and there, but everything else was excellent. Definitely one of the best places to have premium seafood dishes in Dublin.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an updated review for our visit dated 05/09/23.
The restaurant cancelled our reservation so we could not review on OpenTable for this visit. Our reservation was for 8:00pm on a Wednesday night. We sat at the bar, which is where we always reserve if available. As we've expressed in earlier reviews, we always felt rushed in ordering and we hoped it would be a better experience. Our server did not speak very good English and right from the start there was a bit of a language issue. I ordered a wine and she kept asking me if it was a cocktail. I finally had to point it out on the wine menu for her to understand. She also wanted our food order immediately when we were seated and I said I wanted to examine the menu more before we ordered. 45 minutes went by and we did not have anyone come back to us for a food or drink order. I tried to signal the bartender, but he was not interested in helping us. At 9:00 I finally went to the host stand to pay for our drinks and express our dissatisfaction. This is unacceptable service and we were treated so poorly. We try to visit this restaurant once a month and usually spend more than โฌ200. Sole - you've lost another customer.

nothing outstanding. the brown bread and the dover sole were worth dining here.

We were very excited about our opportunity to have dinner at Sole. Unfortunately all was a disappointment. From uninterested service, to the most bland dinner I've ever had, the monk fish. Service was subpar as was the food.

Worst restaurant experience in Europe Mussels were over cooked. 2 scallops for 14 euros. The "manager" Thialo tried to over charge me by switching me to the prix fix menu when I had explicitly ordered from the a la carte menu. When I brought this to their attention, they then charged me an extra 5.50 euros for the substitution of green beans for French fries. Food definitely not worth the subterfuge in their billing practices.
