We had a wonderful experience at Somm's Kitchen thanks to
We had a wonderful experience at Somm's Kitchen thanks to Ian's incredible efforts. We were on the waitlist and he was able to add us to a Saturday evening dinner to celebrate our honeymoon. Ian was so gracious in making this accommodation, and we were enormously thankful to have been able to participate in this dining experience! We lived in New York City for a number of years and have dined all over the world, yet have never had an experience like that at Somm's Kitchen. The intimate counter setup feels like a dinner party hosted for soon-to-be friends, and Ian delivers on that from start to finish, welcoming and introducing the group, explaining his vision, and drawing his guests into a conversation about food and wine. The time spent is so much more than just dinner - which, of course, is spectacular in its own right. The conversations around the counter, happening with your dining partner, those around you, the group at large, and Ian directly - those are the moments that make a great experience a stellar one. Go to Somm's Kitchen and see for yourself. Kudos to Ian for curating these unforgettable experiences for his guests.
The food was good.
The service was great and the interior was pleasant A good sign for good food. It seems to be s popular diner.
Great ambiance for tasting and comparing different wines
Great ambiance for tasting and comparing different wines and champagnes. Very knowledgeable sommelier. Entertaining commentary on the nuances of each wine and vintage. The food is prepared to compliment the wine. Depending on the wine the dishes are selected. So each time it's different. When I went, we had fresh crab, a cheese dish, sausage plate, tomato soup , steak and dessert. All was delicious! He also will cater to you if you mention you are GF or DF. Great experience, throughly enjoyed it!

This was my second time having the privilege of dining at Somm's! The exquisite food & wine pairings are second to none! Every morsel of food is off the charts! Ian prepares special menus for every service. He also keeps track of what you had your previous visit and treats you to something new every time! This last visit Ian prepared a private lunch for 9 of us! We had melted onion soup cheese, tomato basil soup, salmon cooked on cedar planks, sous vide filet mignon & and a homemade donut desert with chocolate sauce. We are gluten free and could eat everything! Ian paired each dish with a different wine. Everyone was impressed. It is worth every penny! If you are lucky enough to get an opportunity to dine here you will not be disappointed. Ian's cooking is top of the charts, his uplifting personality, and his hands on planning, cooking and delivery! I can't wait to return again soon! Thank you so much Ian!

It seems obvious now, but this restaurant is truly a sommelier's kitchen. Ian is passionate, generous and extremely knowledgeable about both wine and food -- all of which shows up in his wine dinner. He was very kind and accommodating and while others were totally impressed by their steaks, I had one of the most delicious presentations of lentils I have ever had!! I cannot imagine anyone ever claiming they left hungry - we had THREE desserts! Food highlights for me (other than the lentils) were the cheese course, lobster and crab, and the tomato soup. But for most, I would imagine the ability to taste 16 wines in one dinner would be the true highlight. 10 Paso wines, 6 European wines - definitely an experience.

We had a delicious tasting and such a fun experience with Ian. The pairings were great, the the Somm, was a Delight!
Yes, greatly exceeded expectations
This experience greatly exceeded expectations! I have been writing reviews on TripAdvisor for close to three decades and since then I have 1) rarely given any restaurant an excellent rating and 2) I have never written that a restaurant exceeded my expectations, because other than one in Guatemala for our 25th wedding anniversary (and I have now been married over 42 years), no other upscale restaurant had greatly exceeded my expectations. Anyway, the food was great. The experience is pleasant with the owner, Ian Somm, explaining each dish as well as the wine. The owner was easy to talk to and was nice when it came to specific foods we did not want. We (my wife and I) definitely intend to come back.

We made reservations for Valentine's Day knowing that this would be a very special dinner. Ian did not disappoint. The Champagne and wines served with our meal were perfect pairings. We were there for approximately 2 1/2hrs of wonderfulness. Ian is such a fabulous Chef and his knowledge of wine is incredible. I am posting pictures of some of the items we were served, but I was enjoying the food so much, I missed getting a couple of pictures. Ian's food is very different, delicious and fabulous. Everyone shares a plate for two. We try to go back as often as we can. Some of the events are a bit pricey for us, so going to Somm's Kitchen is always a special dinner. I would definitely recommend taking the time to have dinner with Ian. It is so worth it!!
The best culinary experience we have ever had.
I'm a foodie and travel the world to experience culinary culture. Here in our back yard is where we have had the best. This Chef not only knows food and wine, he's incredibly grateful and humble. Truly incredible. We can't wait to go back.
A true culinary and wine experience not to be missed.
The wine alone is a treat. 15 bottles of wine for 16 people. So many fantastic wines. The food is exquisite. The attention to details along with the cooking details make it an a must do if you can get in. Plan in advance.
We had the most wonderful time at Somm's Kitchen.
There's no where in the world we could have experienced the quality of wines that were served and the amazing food for the price we paid. Its more than worth it and makes for a very memorable time meeting great people and eating and drinking amazing food.

Wow! What an incredible dining experience! Isn't is a spectacular chef with a knowledge of wine that is unparalleled. What a wonderful lunch at this restaurant with Ann :-) it was to be remembered! I cannot recommend it enough.
If you get the chance Somm's Kitchen is a dining experience.
Slow food paired exquisitely with global disparate varietals. The nuances in flavors textures of the dishes as well as the education about their productions leads to a dining experience you wont forget. T
This is fast becoming my favorite restaurant.
Not only in Paso, but maybe anywhere. I've always had meals here where I left saying "that was the best meal I've had". The price tag is certainly not inexpensive, but for what you're getting (food prepared over DAYS, unobtainable cult wines, vintage champagnes) I truly believe it's a bargain. Not only is it a great meal though, it's an experience. Ian will enthrall you with stories, and you'll meet someone interesting sitting right next to you. Don't expect to walk in though. There's only 14 seats. Go to his website and make a reservation. Plan your whole Paso trip around it. It's worth it.
We really liked the meal and experience, we live in Paso
We really liked the meal and experience, we live in Paso and will dine again with Ian.

What a FABULOUS experience! Ian described how he made each dish and the ingredients, he beautifully presented each and each was so DELICIOUS! Then Ian talked about each wine he poured for each dish. His knowledge and love of all he did shone through and our group of 10 had an amazing time. Thank you for an evening we will always remember!

We visit Paso regularly and finally had our first experience at Somm's Kitchen. By far one of the best experiences in Paso! Getting to taste so many different wines, some of which we would not have access to, was so great. Ian's passion for wine was evident from the start! In addition to the amazing wine experience, the food pairings were perfectly paired and delicious! Thank you Ian for sharing your knowledge and hospitality with us! We will be back!
Wonderful wine & dining experience
This was such a unique wine & dining experience. We have friends that have been telling us to go for years, and we finally booked a Paso trip far enough in advance to get a reservation for my husbands 40th birthday. Outrageously delicious courses of food… paired with a wide array of wines from around the world… fun communal setting… thank you Ian for such a memorable experience. We will definitely be back.
Amazing, One of a Kind Experience!
The food and the wine were fabulous. It was a wonderful opportunity to taste wines we would not get anywhere else. Ian creates a fun atmosphere and is so knowledgeable. What a memorable experience!
A plate of Lima beans really
I was expecting unbelievable food at this place. We were both disappointed totally except for the knowledge that the owner had regarding the wines. I think if I remember correctly our second course was an entire plate of Lima Beans. I was in shock. I have eaten many places. I am not a snob but consider myself a foodie and this place don’t cut it for me. Here was my meal Cheese Sun dried tomato Beans Lentils with duck sausage Steak with shrooms Donut and rice pudding and orange I know people live this place but not worth the time. He should hire a chef and serve and explain wines.
ONE OF A KIND.......
Expectations totally met and exceeded. Ian is certainly a master oenologist with real WORLD credentials and a passionate educator. An exceptional wine experience with a bit of culinary theater for the right audience.......very very well done.
Amazing, unique wine tasting and dining experience
Unique, extraordinary, wine tasting, food pairing, story telling, and educational experience facilitated by master sommelier and chief Ian Adamo in a cozy atmosphere at Somm’s Kitchen in Paso Robles, CA. The wide selection of the wines served at dinner time is amazing. The mere fact that 14 different champagnes, white wines, roses, and red wines are served - some retail-priced at several hundreds of dollars -is mind blowing when you compare it with the affordable price of each dinner which includes food (several courses) and wine /champagne tasting. The setting is intimate and the restaurant itself is unassuming and tucked away (though a short walk from the park / town square in Paso Robles). The place comes to life with each guest arriving for dinner at 6p.m. and Ian’s welcoming and warm greetings. When everyone arrives and sits down at the counter, it feels like you are meeting new friends. There is great wine, delicious food, and good conversation, which is refreshing and much needed, especially nowadays when we spend so much time online. Ian tells stories and educates the guests on the wine and champagne, which is a fabulous experience for those who drink only socially and need to know what to pick from the wine list at a restaurant, as well as wine connoisseurs who are striving to attain Ian’s level of wine expertise. I was impressed by the high quality of the food and the simplicity of each dish. This was our second time at Somm’s Kitchen and the food was even better than the first time. We have been to numerous Michelin star-rated restaurants in the U.S. and internationally. Frequently, what you find is great service, beautifully decorated food that sometimes tastes great and sometimes not so great. At Somm’s Kitchen, each dish simple, absolutely delicious, pure in taste, and unpretentious. You don’t taste butter or heavy creams. The preparation is thoughtful and intentional, and pairs well with the wine you are tasting. But if you are looking for a place that emphasizes on food decorations and less on simplicity and the actual taste of the food, this may not be the place you are looking for. During our dinner, we were served mozzarella & burrata cheese ball with poppy seeds in roasted tomato sauce, melted herb and truffle-infused cheeses on a wooden board, specially-steamed scallops, steamed and roasted on bamboo leaves salmon, cognac-infused chicken, beef with mushrooms, and for dessert a cinnamon-crumble vanilla cake and donut holes with some chocolate sauce. We loved it all. It’s always a memorable night at Ian’s Somm’s Kitchen and if you are fortunate enough to get in off the wait list or plan early enough to book this place a few months in advance, you will have a blast. This dinner and wine tasting experience could easily cost triple of what Somm’s Kitchen actually charges if you consider the high quality of the top shelf alcohol and ingredients in the food, and the personalized experience. I am blown away by Ian’s humble yet super friendly demeanor, his knowledge and skills, and the way he treats each guest like a good friend. Somm’s Kitchen has my full recommendation and we definitely hope to be back.
I went last weekend with friends.
I know it was hard to get reservations. The dining experience was amazing. If you love food and wine you came to the right place. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Ian for a great evening.
Yesterday my amazing girlfriend treated me to an amazing
Yesterday my amazing girlfriend treated me to an amazing dinner at Som's Kitchen. She said it's her birthday everyday b/c she likes to celebrate good times! After reading a few reviews, we wanted to try this Michelin Star restaurant in Paso Robles. I can't really say this was a restaurant. It's more of a wine and food tasting kitchen. We read up about the chef and his achievements. It was impressive. We had made reservation for this place for over a month. It was well received and on Saturdays, it was always booked. We were lucky to get a reservation on a Sunday. The Chef Ian greeted everyone as they enter the kitchen and had us sit in a semi circular table with the focus on the center cooking area. No one knew each other and had no idea what was in store for the night. It was definitely cosy and awkward at first, but Chef Ian made everyone feel at home and introduced himself and the fourteen guests. Wine was pour immediately. Hell yeah! This is the new wine country! As much as I want to give you the play by play of the event, I'm not going to. The only thing I would say is that it was an awesome experience! Chef Ian was definitely passionate about his craft. The food and wine was unbelievable. At the end of the night, the experience was not just about the food and wine. It was about bringing people together and showing how Chef Ian's mastery in his elements can give us a glimpse of the world through his food and wine. Chef Ian, you rock!
My husband and I had dinner here the other night.
Exceptionally incredible food and wine. What an experience. The duck three ways so great, the lentils with truffle, celeriac and potato so yummy. The wines incredible. If you have the opportunity to get a seat at Ian's table take it, you will not be disappointed. Just a wonderful entertaining evening. Hope to experience Ian's wines and food in the future.
There isn't much left to say that hasn't already been said.
.. Ian is a master. His knowledge of wine is unmatched. His food is fantastic and. The pairing of the two is absolutely perfect. Ian's ability to hold conversation with the room, while preparing and pouring is a masterclass on what a perfect restaurant experience can be. Will always return to Somms anytime I'm in Paso.
A fabulous place to eat.
Service is exceptional, team of chefs are professional and friendly. I would go back every night if I could.
Just go.
Read the other reviews if you like, but the 9 or so courses, double wine parings with each, and great circuses make for a great experience.
With Ian, every night is a special night.
This is a too-of-the-line experience that anyone that loves food and wine will always be telling their friends about. It's hard to imagine a more perfect dining experience.
Seriously the best restaurant in Paso.
A hidden gem you can't missSmoked Duck Breast

We had been trying to get into this restaurant for years
We had been trying to get into this restaurant for years and finally got a reservation after being waitlisted. It was everything we had heard about and certainly a wonderful experience. Chef Ian presented a comprehensive background on the wine and the food and explanations for the pairings. He welcomed questions and was never pretentious. He has an impressive background and manages to share and demonstrate his experience in every course. It was more than a dinner - a memorable evening.
Our first trip to Paso was 2019 (from FL), and Ian
Our first trip to Paso was 2019 (from FL), and Ian recommended some wineries that we hadn't tasted yet. Since then we worked our next visit (2023) around getting two spots at Ian's bar top! It was fabulous! My favorites included the creamiest (cream less) tomato bisque, the pheasant sausage, and French onion soup cheese - but every bite was creative and amazing! And that's just the food! The wine pairings were out of this world, and came with an education as well - 14 bottles for 16 people! Worth every penny! Haven't had a meal experience at this price point in my life! Well done Ian! If you are coming to Paso, make sure Somm's Kitchen is on your agenda!
Good wines Okay food
It was a fun and educational experience. The selection of champagne and wines was excellent which spoke highly of lan's experience as a sommelier. He also did an amazing job managing the entire dining room of 14(?) guests. There was not a single dull moment. However, food was inconsistent and somewhat disappointing. While a couple of plates (eg., 1st course cheese and soup) were tasty, most of the items were not very special and salmon and duck sausage were just way too salty. It's good value if your expectation is just good wines pairing with an abundant amount of food, but don't expect Michelin star quality experience.
Another very memorable dine/wine experience
We were very fortunate once again to have a wonderful dining experience at Somm’s Kitchen. Ian’s conversation, food, wine and ambiance are all exceptional. Truly memorable what he was able to do with what would otherwise simply be a pumpkin, a slice of cheese, and a donut….along with the additional courses. He now has the top two spots in my personal list of most memorable dining experiences. We hope to return.
That Truly Special Restaurant Experience
It doesn't happen often, but every now and then you find that very special restaurant where the overall experience transcends "just another great meal". Ian at Somm's Kitchen creates that rarest of dining experiences. Each night behind his 14-person crescent chef's counter, Ian blends his food, wine and genuine joy with a fascinating running dialogue of all that he presents. You come into Somm's having blindly paid for a dinner and pairings without having any clue as to what will be presented before you that evening. As Ian said, "you put all of your trust in him." Ian does not disappoint. He overdelivers with wonderful flavors and extraordinary wines and you leave feeling better (and more knowledgeable) for the experience. It simply doesn't get any better than this!
Amazing Experience
This was a truly amazing, unique, personalized experience and one we will never forget. Ian is a fantastic chef with incredible wine knowledge. We learned so much about the differences in wines and really appreciated the opportunity to taste different ones side by side. Our group shared the planned wines for the evening as well as a couple extras that Ian added in based on the direction the conversations went and things he learned about people in the group over the course of the evening. The food was also very good and very well prepared. Each course had a perfectly paired wine. There was more than enough food for everyone and more was offered with the courses to those who desired additional - much like it would be in a home kitchen. We hope to return to Paso again some day and would probably plan our trip around when we were able to get a reservation at Somm's Kitchen. Thank you so much Ian for the experience.
